As a disclaimer, the words spoken in this episode are of my own accord and a right of free speech. With that disclaimer out of the way, today's episode talks about the state of education (specifically public education), how school choice will lead more parents to sending their kids to private school over public school, and why that is beneficial for some. I also provide some personal examples of the major factors of the decline of education, and I explain how I am more than a "classroom teacher". Plus there are some small life updates as well. Again, this is a work of art and literature. Educators in different states, if you're experiencing or have experienced sorta the same things, please let me know! Enjoy!

I talk about the origins of the cookout, with its beginnings in the Native American culture and how it lead to a complex relationship between Natives and Black people, plus about how to spot signs that your food may or may not be good. Plus, I reminisce about my childhood cookout memories and the love and jubilee spread during those times. Finally, it's the Wrap Up. Let's be honest, 24 hours in a day isn't enough for most people to do any and all things they want to do. We talk about the origins of time. how your circadian rhythm plays into that effect and why the tern "CPT" is actually detrimental to Black culture. I also give a break down of what my daily schedule looks like and why I think 30 hours of Mars still wouldn't be enough to accomplish what I would want to do. In this first episode of the new year and first episode of this series, I explore more of the nerdier side of things and that is comic books. We've all heard Captain America, Iron Man, Spiderman, Superman, etc. But what about Lion Man? Ace Harlem? Lobo? Luke Cage, Black Panther? Spawn? These are just some of the most influential black comic book characters that we in the black community have come to appreciate. We talk about the origin of black superheroes, the first Black comic book, how it lead to the creation of black superheroes in comics and how those creations have lead to the landscape we have today of Black Comic book characters. I also talk about my favorite Black Comic book characters and my favorite non-Black Comic book character (who, in a sense, can relate to the Black struggle). This episode talks about every part of the world and the cultures it has blessed us with, the origin of Soul Food and the foods that were formed from it, and how the continuation of it for many generations in the Black community has lead to many adverse health effects, but has also lead the way for it to be included and even inspired other cultures to incorporate Soul Food into their culture. In this "controversial" episode, I go over the top two most racist films ever made in the history of film. This topic was inspired by a dinner conversation about Disney and how blatantly racist Disney was in the 20th Century. THUS, this episode was born and I talk about four films that have been deemed by historians as being some of the most controversial films made in terms of stereotyping of African Americans and African American culture, including the use of white actors in blackface, use of Southern African-American dialect by white actors, the KKK being depicted as the heroes, helping to preserve American values, protect women white and promote white supremacy, but also are in the Library of Congress and the National Film Registry because of them being culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, ONE OF THESE FILMS DID NOT ALLOW THE LEAD ACTOR, WHO WAS BLACK, IN THE MOVIE, WHICH WAS ABOUT A BLACK MAN AND HIS STORIES, TO ATTEND THE PREMIRE OF SAID MOVIE IN A NOW PREDOMINATLY BLACK CITY...BECAUSE HE WAS BLACK. This topic frustrated me so much in the beginning, but the ending helped picked my spirits up and I hope it does the same for you (as well as informs you). That's right, I have now added in video podcasts as a part of my new format (although this is only currently available for Spotify users, everyone else will still get the audio version of it). But nonetheless, it feels great to be back recording the podcast for y'all again and I promise to not keep you guys waiting (at least for a long time like that again ;) ). In this triumph return to the podcast, I talk about the brand new format for the show and how it will be presented for an episode every so often. But the meat and potatoes of this podcast will be spent talking about everyone's favorite sport: wrasslin or wrestling for those who want proper English. We talk about the origins of it, from its Greco-Roman that everyone recognizes today as the actual sport, to where it became profitable in the 50s and 60s, how Black people have been participating in "sports entertainment" since slavery, to where it is today and how Black wrestlers of old (Rocky Johnson and company) have led to the rise of predominant Black wrestling. I also talk about my experiences watching wrasslin as a young Black kid, including the John Cena obsessions' to recently watching the latest WrestleMania. On this return from hiatus episode, we talk about science, mainly outer space and we get schwifty in this one. We talk about space exploration, how I think there should be more POC in STEM programs across the country, specifically in low income neighborhoods, and the biggest scenario ever: what if the aliens did invade? What would we do? How would we respond? Plus, I talk how I am a scientist, and I would 100% help in the colonialization and industrialization of Mars and then how I believe the dumb aliens would attack Earth, but not the smarter ones. In this episode, we get real deep and personal about something else that has been plaguing the Black population: Mental Health. More specifically, the negative stigma that is attached with mental health. Time and time again, black people are often dismissed and forgotten when the subject of mental health is brought up. I talk about how many famous black celebrities and superstars bring up their mental health and how it's affected them in their daily lives, especially during peak performances. Plus, I talk about my struggles with my mental health and talk about my everyday fight with anxiety, depression, and PTSD and suicidal thoughts. Finally, I give The Wrap Up. If you or a loved one struggles with mental health, need someone to talk, or on the verge of a mental health crisis, please feel free to contact the National Suicide Prevention Hotline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255). --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/jamar-burke/message

In this part 1 of a two part series, we talk about Black Men and education when it comes to the classroom and of course I had to have my Brodie bro, Antwan "Poe" Martin, on to talk about his experience being a young black male educator in the North, which is vastly different than how it is to be a young black male educator in the South. We talk about programs to help get more black men into education, teaching style in the North compared to the South, building those fundamental relationships, and mainly why we became educators. Part 2 will focus on outside the classroom, so stay tuned for that one! --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/jamar-burke/message

Plus, I talk about my experience with firearms and how shifted the movement from anti-gun to gun-friendly in my household. This is the reason why I started the podcast, why I love being black, and why I won't stop being black any time soon. I also talk about how kids are NOT accidents or burdens, they're just born into their given situations.
