In this episode, we tackle one more discussion topic to keep the October Halloween celebrations going. In an era where reboots and revivals are running wild, we posed a simple question: What if beloved anthology horror series Masters of Horror returned for a third season? Our parameters were simple. Assume 13 episodes because the other two seasons had that many. We each take six picks to be as even as possible and tapped Michael to give us his number one suggestion to round out number 13. The major stipulation is that each filmmaker needs to have not already appeared in the prior two seasons of the show. Watch as we wade into the trenches fighting to honor those who may have missed out on the original show's run or staking the claim of master for more modern directors. How did we do? Who did we miss? We'd love to hear your thoughts too! But before all that, we dish on more of our horror watches for the Halloween season. And so much more! We've all been there. We're innocently driving the kids to school, and from the backseat you hear: "Daddy, what's that?" You look out the window and calmly respond, "Honey, that's four bloody skeletons hanging from a tree with their skin peeling off." Mysteriously, bedtime is suddenly incredibly hard. Don't get us wrong, Halloween is fun as hell, and it can be a time for kids to dip a healthy toe into the world of fears, and death, and monsters... and all that other stuff we wish we could shelter our kids from completely but obviously can't. Max and Matt kick around ideas for how to get into the Halloween spirit without traumatizing the small, partially developed humans that live at their house. Let's Go! Buy Violet Archer on Amazon Here
So, July 4th is behind us now. Why are there no holidays celebrated nationally in August? September has Labor Day and the autumnal equinox, October…Halloween, November… Thanksgiving, December, a full spate of Holidays, January…New Years, February… Valentine's Day. March sometimes has Easter AND the first day of Spring, April…Fools Day and sometimes Easter. May with May Day, Mother's Day and Memorial Day, June with Father's Day, Juneteenth and the first day of Summer…and we circle back to July with the 4th. August is left out. Santa Nudo and the Smut Peddler (aka Satan's Little Helper) are back in the studio after a long break. Lots of things has been happening while we were of air and busy with other (Cultpix things), including finances, applications and great plans for 2024!We had a second Rene Bond Theme Week and there are enough of her films to come for two more weeks. In October we had 31 Days of Halloween, which inspired us to have regular theme months where we highlight existing films and include some new ones. As part of the October Halloween theme we had a Theme Week of UK Horror and Fantasy in co-operation with our good friends at Stream Go Media. This gave us the chance to show great titles suc as Blood of the Vampire, Circus of Horrors, Devil Girl from Mars, The Gamma People, The Snake Woman and many others. Also in October we had the second week of South African exploitation films made during the Apartheid era. This is a slice of film history never screened/streamed anywhere else before. Last week of October we tried something different with a Theme Week of The Golden Age of Gay Erotica, which we thought might upset some members, but which was wel received and (more importantly) watched. November was our Noir-vember, with classic titles (some even considered 'quality') and some titles not previously on Cultpix. Sadly the big blog post about it was wiped by the system. After that we had an interesting find, again thanks to Stream Go Media, in the form of the super-productive Hong Kong director Godfrey Ho, who gave us one-legged hopping Chinese vampires in "Robo Vampire" (1988) in and Cynthia Rothrock in "Honor and Glory" (1992). IN early November we paid tribute to the great Michael Weldon, by looking back of his touring Psychotronic Films festival in Stockholm and Europe at the very start of our careers. He was and remains a huge influence. The Taiwan Film and Audiovisual Institute (TFAI) became our 50th content partner when we signed the deal with them in Lyon, giving us access to two great 1960s films.December was the Cultpix Christmas Calendar theme month, with hand-picked selections of films good enough to hang in your Christmas tree. December was also the René Cardona Jr theme week, famous for ripping of big blockbusters and for using real animals in a way that Hollywood would never dare. Last for December was a bit of a break - an intermission, if you will, with Hey Folks, It's Intermission Time! compilation films. In Januari 2024 we will have a Mike Vraney Memorial Month, to remember 10 years without him, with Lisa Petrucci curating 62 films! Also next year we will have an IRL post exhibition, a new posters coffee table book, the Wickman Week get-together, more theme months/weeks and lots more!We will also get better at doing the podcast and newspetter, we promise. So for now, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, you beautiful Cultpix freaks, geeks and c

Open Brands: A Chat with 7 Figure Seller Adam Jagot In this episode of Seller Sessions, we have Adam Jagot, an experienced Amazon seller in the clothing category, sharing his journey and insights. Here are the key points discussed: Starting out on eBay: Inspired by the success of big clothing brands like Boohoo, Adam began his selling journey on eBay, primarily focusing on women's clothing due to the availability from manufacturers. * Learning the ropes: With limited knowledge about clothing styles, Adam had to learn from others in the industry and adapt to the demands of the market. * Expanding to Amazon: Adam eventually expanded his clothing business to Amazon, alongside his existing shoe business. Sales quickly skyrocketed, leading to the need for recruiting more staff for efficient picking and packing. * Dealing with challenges: Adam faced the issue of hijacked listings and price undercutting by other sellers. This prompted him to explore Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA), which resulted in significant revenue growth. * European expansion: Seeing the potential for growth, Adam expanded his business to different European countries, translating listings for each market and experiencing unprecedented sales numbers. * Discovering new opportunities: Attending the Retail Without Borders trade event in early 2020, Adam stumbled upon new opportunities and learned about selling on multiple platforms. He successfully transitioned between inventory management systems. * Positive impact of COVID-19: The pandemic had a positive impact on Adam's sales as online shopping surged. He adapted to the changing landscape and benefited from increased customer demand. * Brand diversification: Adam ventured into the kids' clothing market, introducing additional brands to his portfolio. * Focus on staple garments: Adam's strategy revolves around offering staple and neutral garments that appeal to a wide range of customers, ensuring consistent sales. * Seasonal inventory management: Adam orders inventory in advance based on seasons and data, anticipating demand and preparing accordingly. * Managing returns: To mitigate returns, Adam implements careful inspection processes and donates unsellable items. * Manufacturing considerations: Adam shifted manufacturing primarily to Turkey for faster delivery times compared to China, given the importance of timely supply in the fashion industry. * Key sellers: Leggings and cardigans are standout sellers for Adam's brand, capturing customer interest and driving revenue. * Seasonal spikes: Adam's brand experiences spikes in sales during specific seasons, notably in February, summer, and October (Halloween), while Christmas and January sales are not significant for their brand. * Challenges of website sales: Despite having their own online store, Adam notes that revenue from websites is only about 10% compared to Amazon. Building and maintaining websites requires significant effort and driving traffic can be costly. * Influencer marketing impact: Influencer marketing can generate sudden sales spikes, but the window of opportunity is short. Collaborating with major influencers can attract attention from other influencers and retailers. * Brand partnership challenges: Adam shares an experience with a potential brand partnership with Debenhams, where a large stock investment was required. Ultimately, the partnership did not materialise. * Current challenges: The present year has proven to be the toughest for Adam's business, with various market challenges and obstacles to overcome. * Future plans: Adam is planning to pivot and explore other product categories while entering the US marketplace for further growth opportunities. Tune in to the full episode to gain more valuable insights from Adam Jagot's journey as an Amazon seller in the clothing category.

Halloween has come and gone, but the books are just getting onto my shelf! Here is a diary of the books I picked up over spooky season, mainly horror with a little magick as well. Happy Halloween Slumber Party people! We hope you have thoroughly enjoyed Spooky Season as much as we have. As we head into the last leg of 2022 (crazy) we are on track to hit some amazing milestones before the end of the year. Twitches Too (2007) rounds out our October/Halloween films of the year and we had...some feelings. Not many. But some. So thank goodness we do consume content unrelated to DCOMs, because this dcom was not good, we fear...In fact, it was so not good that we forgot to give it a ranking while recording, but we did agree that we collectively give it a 2/5. It's giving Halloweentown II: Kalabar's Revenge (IYKYK). xoxo and Happy Halloween! P.S. In the first half of this week's episode, AJ tells us about his trip down south. Be sure to ask him what shoulders are for. Our movie this week - 1982's cult classic The Thing. It's October/Halloween season afterall. Adam has been experiencing road rage this past week, he talks about why, in addition to wrapping up the Allroad's suspension retrofit. Bruce criticizes the lack of a Thule on his ride though. Big news out of Michigan - Carvana, the car vending machine company, is in deep trouble. In the second half, we talk about last week's episode and how it was the epitome of lack of effort - sorry folks. California draws our ire, when the owner of a Hyundai Elantra N owner gets a ticket for driving in N mode, and breaks Cali's exhaust loudness laws - despite being completely stock. Another reason the state is a nightmare for car enthusiasts. Also in the news, a Tesla goes 1600 miles without charging. How is that possible? And AJ brings up the end of the episode with some factoids and how technology has been driving car design trends. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/brokecarsnobs/message

MOVIE DISCUSSION: Stephen and Melvin are joined by Shirleon to discuss the highly revered classic vampire film Nosferatu, a film with a 100-year legacy! Topics: (PATREON EXCLUSIVE) 30-minutes talking about our October/Halloween plans, from movies to habits! (PATREON EXCLUSIVE) Nosferatu is a very simple movie about a vampire, a man, and his wife. This was Shirleon's second time watching Nosferatu. The first time was great. The second time... not so much.Stephen observed how Nosferatu can feel slow and boring for a modern audience, yet also feels Nosferatu is an effective film overall.Melvin had a unique experience in which he was confronted with his mortality. Why? Because everyone involved in Nosferatu, from its conception, plagiarism, and preservation is dead.Nosferatu is shot during a time when movies were "plays on film", and thus didn't contain the same freedoms and creativities we are now accustomed to movies that separate themselves from the stage.Count Orlock is grotesquely charismatic, parading the film with a transfixing nature.Discussing the hardship of film preservation and audience engagement for a film that is both pre-talkie and had a court case resulting in the destruction of all original film negatives.Back in the days of yore, black and white films could be colored by painting on the film itself, and musicians could perform original music for the film based upon their talents and interpretations. With this in mind, the concept of preserving the "original experience" of older films becomes far more complicated, as it cuts down as deep as regional and local creativity.Nosferatu seems to present a message around the overbearing presence of predator vs prey, from not only a man vs man angle (Hutter vs Orlock) but also man vs nature (the town vs the plague). Primarily, it seems Nosferatu is expressing a horror unique to nature.Despite Count Orlock's diabolical design, there is still an expressionistic depiction of sensuality throughout Nosferatu.Recommendations:Frankenstein (1931) (Movie), or any other classic Universal Monsters movie.Absentia (2011) (Movie)And I Darken by Kiersten White (Book)Support on Patreon for Unique Perks! It's time to rejoin the October Halloween horror action, in progress, with part two of the 17th Annual A-Z of Horror Festival! If you could choose three people to hang out and have dinner with during the spooky season, Edgar Allan Poe, Roger Corman and Vincent Price would probably be ideal. Unless, of course, everything is literally crumbling down around you. Which certainly seems to be the case with the House of Usher (1960). Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi might take exception with not being invited, but they have their own problems to contend with in The Invisible Ray (1936). And it's sad, but Jennifer (1978) may not be an ideal guest for everyone, especially if she arrives with two handfuls of serpents. Or a giant snake emerges and bites someone's head off. That's probably going to ruin the evening. Poor Paul Bartel would enjoy a fine evening of dining, but he's obligated to attend the dreadful Killer Party (1986). Princess Lola, and her reluctant date, regret to inform you that they have a night of dancing and torture, which seems like a priority in The Loved Ones (2009). Should you invite Maddie? Well, it would probably be okay. Unless she starts having visions of death. And you see some creepy thing that seems to be running around backwards. If that happens, you may want to move to a different country, because things are about to get Malignant (2021)! You could invite Janet, but it's not her birthday. And let's be honest, she's not much fun unless someone is getting stabbed. Otherwise, her paranoia is kind of a Nightmare (1964). Holland and Niles probably wouldn't make the best guests. They won't wash their hands and wouldn't sit still long enough to actually eat or have a conversation. Plus, there seem to be a lot of unfortunate accidents while they're around, as evidenced in The Other (1972). And it's a good thing that it's not New Year's Eve. Not that you would necessarily anticipate anyone dying at the dinner party. But if it happens, I suppose that you could always summon The Phantom Carriage (1921).
