Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from James and myself. James pulls another tear-jerker out of nowhere with this month's watch along, Frienen Beyond Journey's End. Which is a delightful anime about an elf who does what most elves do, live a long time. In this anime, we watch the main character, Frienen, appear to stay roughly the same age as all the other members of her adventuring group grow older. How does she deal with this? Watch along and find out. #FrienenBeyondJourney'sEnd#anime #CrunchyRoll #watchalong Please enjoy, SPCAC contacts https://linktr.ee/seriouslypointlessconvo seriouslypointlessconvo@gmail.com
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from James and myself. James and I travel to the dark and ominous land brought us to in Call of Cthulhu RPG. James and I have a short one for you folks this week as we discuss the looping nature of the smash hit indie game, Outer Wilds. The game that quite conceivably started the time loop craze in games, Outer Wilds is a very charming and interesting game that started out of a college graduate project that went big. Was I impressed? Did James enjoy it? James and I discuss alternate timelines in this episode with Wolfenstein: The New Order. Hope you're feeling about as American as you can because we channeled our inner William "B.J." Blazkowicz in this episode. "Wolfenstein: The New Order" is a first-person shooter video game developed by MachineGames and published by Bethesda Softworks. Released in 2014, it is a reboot of the classic Wolfenstein series and offers a unique blend of alternate history, intense action, and a gripping narrative. Overall, "Wolfenstein: The New Order" is praised for its captivating story, memorable characters, and thrilling gameplay. Jackie joins us after a bit of a break, to watch one of our favorite films of all time, the animated adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's #TheHobbit. This adaptation from the famed animation film studio Raken and Bass was released in 1977 and is, in our opinion, one of our favorite films to be released by them. James and I watch a slightly disturbing alternate-history anime called Tanya the Evil, where magic and science are side by side in a World War 1-like universe. James and I delve into a delightful JRPG this week called Earthbound. Although a bit more niche when it first came out and still a bit of a cult classic, it has joined the ranks of Nintendo greatness over the years. James and I go into an anime with the slightly silly premise of if the Red Power Ranger fell in love with one of the main baddies of the show, Rita Repulsa. Though the names and the organizations are different, the premise is the same for this wonderfully silly, one season anime, that is all about the dangers of falling in love when your families hate each other. James and I begin our classic RPG series with a doozy, Fallout 1 by Interplay Entertainment which was released in 1997 to well deserved applause. Well we discuss that and more as we venture from our Vault into the wasteland of pc games. #Fallout # Bethesda #pcgaming #RPG Please enjoy, SPCAC contacts https://linktr.ee/seriouslypointlessconvo seriouslypointlessconvo@gmail.com
We jump into an excellent anime series that I truly loved, but James had fallen away from. The series was Netflix's Castlevania Season 2 Episode 1, where we enter into a world with Dracula beginning the annihilation of the human race, Trevor Belmont is trying to figure out his next move with Alucard and Sypha in a destroyed town that murder Dracula's wife years ago. To say this was one of my favorite series out of the Netflix anime boom of the 2010's would be an understatement. Truly a bloody romp through this world of vampires and religious fanatics, this is a blast and wonderful ingesting of sensory overload. #Castlevania #Season2 #Bromance Please enjoy, SPCAC contacts https://linktr.ee/seriouslypointlessconvo seriouslypointlessconvo@gmail.com
We close off this trilogy with a foray into the GameCube era, as we discuss the controversial Legend of Zelda: Windwaker. James and I discuss a bit about how this strange departure from the rest of the Zelda series really divided fans of the series, almost simply because of its art style alone. We also discuss how this change in art style and gameplay paved the way for many other fan favorites, such as Breath of the Wild. Please enjoy, SPCAC contacts https://linktr.ee/seriouslypointlessconvo seriouslypointlessconvo@gmail.com
James and I talk about one of his favorite games in the Legend of Zelda series, Majora's Mask. This one hits home for James, as it was a large part of his childhood and the impression it left on him. This game also really left a dent in the gaming sphere of the early 2000s on its innovation and storytelling. We enjoyed talking about this one immensely so sit back, open your ears, and enjoy. James christens our watch along series with an anime favorite of his My Dress Up Darling. A fun and slightly raunchy anime about a shy teenage boy, Wakana Gojo, who is a hina doll craftsman (similar to our American porcelain dolls) and an outgoing young lady cosplayer named Marin Kitagawa. High jinks ensue and you'll have to watch the episode to find out what happens. You'll also get to enjoy some commentary from James and I as we watch this, me for the first time. James and I talk about the smash hit from Level-5 studios, Ni Nu Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch that came out in 2011 to thunderous applause. James and I talk one of our favorite RPG tabletop games of all time, Paranoia. This delightfully tongue in cheek 1984 tabletop RPG is probably one that James and I go back, constantly recommending to our friends when they want to have a fun and whacky time, but maybe don't want to dump a whole six months into a Dungeons and Dragons campaign. So sit back and enjoy as James and I discuss how we can become the best Fixer for Friend Computer we can be in this review episode. Please enjoy. James and I wade through the festering rats, as we explore the super upbeat and happy (this is sarcasm) Dark Ages French region of Aquitaine. Is this game really everything its been hyped as? Jackie joins James and I as we fly into one of our favorite animes of the 2010's, Ancient Magus Bride. Jackie brings a unique perspective on the show, showing us that there is more to this one than just magic and fairies. Welcome back to the podcast. James and I make our triumphant return to recording ourselves acting like idiots for your enjoyment. We talk about what we've been up to these last six or so months, then dive straight into the big Microsoft and Sony arms race of 2022. We stop off for a bit of lighter fair as we discuss the upcoming Halo tv show and the impact esports is having on the Asian market (is it good? is it bad? come find out.) We'll wrap up with a review of one of our favorite anime of the last couple years, "That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime." A fun little anime that turns the isekai genre on its head, with tons of pointless battles and big boobs that do nothing for the main character. We hope you all enjoy our return and here's to being back behind the mic. Cheers. #podcast #gamingnews #ThatTimeIGotReincarnatedAsASlime #anime
James and I chat with Asa from Podzilla1985 talk about Nintendo possibly bringing some of our favorite Gameboy and Gameboy Advance games to the switch, the Twitch boycott against hate raids, Sony being weird about updating their games, China's gaming restrictions shut down servers, and Sony is changing up their PS5 hardware, maybe for the worse. We then get into the wonderfully delightful indie game Axiom Verge solely created by Thomas Happ. This game is a nostalgia trip out the ying yang, as you travel through a unique take on the Metroid games of old. This game brings much warmth to my heart. Check it all out in this week's episode. SPCAC contacts https://linktr.ee/seriouslypointlessconvo seriouslypointlessconvo@gmail.com
Do you enjoy looking at the tiny little details and then rubber stamping the form DENIED! when one little thing is out of place? James and I delve into the wonderfully simple, yet ultimately complicated world of bureaucracy, in this week's review of Papers, Please. This game came out of left field, with the simple idea of what if you were a immigration officer in a dystopian country? Seems simple right, you are very wrong. This game starts slow but slowly lets the tension build through each stage until you can feel the anxiety in your bones. But in a fun way. We also talk some gaming news, most notably the upcoming Xbox Game Pass list for this August and then Nintendo going after the little guy, who's just trying to illegally sell their old games. James teaches me the intricacies of the human body in this week's episode as we talk about the part humorous, part educational hit anime Cells at work. James gives me the run down of what I have to look forward to in my old age as we cover the newest series to bare the name Cells at Work: Code Black, that welcomes us into the body of an older male (fun fact we talk about erections, Yay!) We also covered the news about the Pathfinder expansion that sets to give us two new classes, exciting. Vito (Not Your Father's Movies podcast) joins me in this week's episode to reminisce about one of our favorite Batman games, Rocksteady Studios initial foray into the Batman universe, Batman: Arkham Asylum. You'll hear us talk why this isn't necessarily just a Batman game, this is a Batman's Rogues Gallery game that has Batman in it. James and I discuss his slight distaste for the smash hit from Studio MDHR, Cuphead. This fast paced side scrolling shooter has won the love and respect of many who have played it, but it has also earned their ire. This was the game that the Moldenhauer brothers took a chance on and won big, pouring their love and passion into this game that took them around seven years to complete. What makes a good Studio Ghibli film? Is it art direction, or maybe a heartfelt story? Well if that's what makes a good film, Jackie and I agree that this film doesn't have it. Earwig and the Witch is a mess of half hearted movements and small tentative steps from a director trying to exit his father's shadow.
