--------------------------------

Are you ready for some football!? This superbowl week, we decided to check out a little-known team from the Japanese High School league, the Devil Bats! Sena just started high school, and after being honed by years of bullying, he's ready to take the American football world by storm. Unfortunately, he's too mild-mannered and has to hide his persona under the guise of the mysterious Eyeshield 21, a hero who comes to save the day by running at the speed of light. Also, eventually more people have super powers or something, just like actual football. This week, Matt, Sam, Jae, and special guest Colton (Manga Mavericks) read and discuss Eyeshield 21 written by Riichiro Inagaki and illustrated by Yusuke Murata.Like our guest Colton? Dr.Stone, Stone, calling Dr.Stone. Dr.Stone, Dr.Stone, wake up now! Senku isn't dead, but his near-death experience has convinced him that Taiju's romance subplot isn't interesting enough to be a main character, so now he's going off on his own science adventure. Now he's teaming up with the ninja Kohaku and the sorcerer Chrome and doing a whole lotta BAD sorcery to try and figure out what's going on with this stone age world. Dr.Stone, Stone, calling Dr.Stone. Dr.Stone, Dr.Stone, wake up now! Taiju was about to confess his love to his high school crush, when the entire world was flash frozen in stone. Several million years later, with the help of his super-genius friend Senku, they two are going to perform high-school experiments to bring this stone-age world all the way back into the future. The only thing that could go wrong is if some kind of Primal Idealist wished to oppose them, and keep this new world free of the stain of technology. James and I talk about the smash hit from writer Riichiro Inagaki and artist Boichi. If you enjoy anime that starches that itch for being a little bit zany, and a whole lot of fun, we think this might be the anime for you. James and I enjoy ourselves as we talk about what makes this an excellent anime with decent shelf life ahead of itself. We also briefly talk about the Steam Summer Sale. Apologies for my audio issues this episode. Skype decided to reset every setting I had ever set it to, and then when I changed them, I did not restart my recording app, which just remembers the first thing I selected, but does not update to every subsequent thing I entered. I cleaned up some background noise that was going on as a result of me having to really crank up my own audio to make it audible at all, but it still sounds far away and tinny. I can do nothing about this, beyond re-recording all my audio with my good microphone I guess? But I'm not gonna do that. The content is there...albeit poorly. This episode, we're talking about Aya Kanno's Otomen and Riichiro Inagaki (story) and Boichi's (art) Dr. Stone, both published by Viz Media. The songs you heard in this episode are "Good Morning World!" by BURNOUT SYNDROMES and "Life" by Rude-α, both from the Dr. Stone anime. As always, you can find me on Twitter @ImpassionateK, and my co-hosts Helen (@WanderinDreamr) and Apryll (@manjiorin) on Twitter at those places in the parenthesis. You can find both of their writing at The Organization of Anti-Social Geniuses, more of Helen's writing at Narrative Investigations, and my writing at the Fandom Post. Read my reviews of Dr. Stone over at the Fandom Post: Volume 1, volume 2, volume 3, volume 4, volume 5, volume 6, volume 7, volume 8, volume 9. Listen Show notes: 0:33 - We talk about Otomen! 11:36 - We talk about Dr. Stone! Next time is a surprise.
So, today in another episode, in Read It segment, I will tell you about my favorite comic books. Yeah besides book with just letter to read, I love books with illustration as well, or people call it comic books, and I love it so much. I read my old comic books a lot lately and it really surprised me, because besides a cool illustration, the creator put the points of morality in their comic and in my opinion, it is related so much in reality. So, if you guys really enjoy doing sports and looking some books about struggling and friendship and (maybe) American football specifically, I highly recommend Eyeshield 21 to accompany you, ok? Enjoy! Skip it until minute 40:39 for English version, thank you!
