This week the Beat of the Month crew give the definitive list of the best Real Time Strategy games of all time! OK...maybe not quite that definitive since our expertise in this genre is a bit lacking. But, we at least name drop Civilization and Starcraft to try and save face. We do reach into the depths of our knowledge to come up with some of our favorites. Are they all truly RTS games? Well, don't judge us too harshly. But if you're an RTS fan then give our trivia at the end of the episode a shot and see how you rank against the Beat of the Month crew - we hope you enjoy!
Pick up your Pick Axes and gather those berries--this week we're heading back to the Middle Ages with a modern look at Age of Empires 4! Yes, we know: Age of Empires IV just came out at the end of October and we're a retro videogame podcast... BUT if there ever were a love letter to an era of gaming we loved it's this. Before booting up the sequel to one of our favourite Real Time Strategy games of all time on Xbox Game Pass, we took a moment to think up some of the best franchises NOT to be given the RTS treatment. Plus, we may have found a MASSIVE hole in the logic of Pokemon... This week the Beat of the Month crew jump into uncharted territory with a look at Real Time Strategy games! Most of us haven't played a whole lot of games in the genre, but we took a dive into a few games such as Halo Wars, Ogre Battle 64, and more! We also talk a bit about some new games outside the genre such as Little Nightmares 2 and Metroid Dread. Our actions per minute may be limited, but the laughs per minute are as plentiful as ever! OK maybe that was a bit cheesy. Also, if you were curious on the current state of Long John Silvers, we've got you covered - enjoy!

Confession time: I'm a MAJOR internet sleuth….I wanna know all.So much so, I'll watch someones actions online and try to figure out how they maximize their time and energy. In fact, when starting out (and sometimes from time to time) I so bad want to steal another entrepreneur's planner to see exactly how they DO IT ALL. The reality is, NO ONE is doing it all…..but those that do are either doing one of two things. FailingStrategically time managing in such a way they ACTUALLY HAVE A LIFE*gasp* what? #2 is possible. Chipped Monk and Mister Gimpy discuss the evolution of Real Time Strategy games, our experiences taking them competitively, what they became and what we would like to see in the future for the genre,Video available at:https://youtu.be/RwBilAgO3Yo
Real Time Strategy and Tactical games have a rich yet unique history and conjure up an incredibly diverse set of games. From Pikmin to StarCraft, to playing Army Men in a sandbox, these types of games are hard to put labels on but you know them when you see them. While these games mostly had their hey-day outside of consoles, the GameCube boasted a couple of long-running franchises such as Worms and Army-Men (no not the Toy Story Army Men although Mike was pretty convinced that they were). Friend of the show Jason Hodgson joins the boys to discuss his memories of growing up with Worms games and the desire to see Worms Armageddon ported to the Switch. Finally Neil gets to talk about one of his favourite hidden gems for the cube, Nintendo-published Batallion Wars, a spin-off of the Advanced Wars series that is an incredible amount of fun.
