On this week’s Sports Show, you had your say on the resumption of the football season which sees the Premier League restart next Wednesday & the Championship restart next Saturday. Ryan Bath was on telling us of the rugby team he’s helped set up called Tough Talk RFC, its members all having experiences of mental health issues to share. Paul Tabram is familiar to Ospreys supporters as he’s the man on the mic at the Liberty home games. He’s embarked on a charity walk for Swansea Mind doing 5k a day for 26 days. His final day is Tuesday 26th. David Cotterill, former Welsh international footballer told us about his foundation & the online courses he’s running. Lee Trundle was on explaining how his role has evolved as an ambassador at the Swans & how important sport is in keeping both the body and mind active. And we spoke to Monika Bugelli, Director at Swansea Samaritans.

We tried answering another question on Friday’s Sports Show - Who do you consider to be the greatest Welsh Fly Half? When you consider the options...Cliff Morgan, Barry John, Phil Bennett, Jonathan Davies the answer could be debated for weeks and months...Gareth opted for Barry John, just. But he said you could easily choose a fly half from the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s & 90s such has been the production line. Colin from Birchgrove RFC was adamant - Phil Bennett for his movement off both feet. Damian opted for Jonathan Davies simply because of his adaptability and being top of his game in both rugby union and league.. All that & more on this week's podcast!
We asked a question on Friday’s Sports Show; Knowing what we know now compared to several weeks ago should the football season be scrapped & declared null & void, or should it be completed, even behind closed doors? Opinion was really split on this. Terry was adamant that the season should be scrapped while Paul felt it had to be completed & that the more wealthy clubs could go some way towards helping lower league clubs stay in business. Angelo Dragone is a former boxer turned boxing trainer who runs the Stallion boxing academy. He’s also running classes online. Dale Lambrick is raising funds for the NHS by taking part in a 12 hour 3 day cycle marathon that’s been organised by cycling legend Geraint Thomas. Adam Williams runs Ramps Skatepark & is in to extreme sports. He’s been training people online (carefully) about skateboarding and other extreme sports & has built a skate park in his back garden. Mike Jones is personal trainer with Boss It training. He offered some great tips for us to stay active. Phil Williams, Assistant coach at Goytre football club and Karl Lewis coach at Llantwit Major football club told us about an online challenge they’ve organised. As Colin passionately put it, these Grassroots clubs are a vital part of communities in South Wales. Let's hope the WRU offer all the help and support they can!
It was all about the Coronavirus on this week's sports show and how its impacted on sport, not just locally but nationally and globally too. A couple of callers also questioned why the WRU postponed the Wales v Scotland game only 24 hours before it was due to kick off. And we wondered where we go from here and how the sporting calendar may look going forward through the rest of the year.

The main topic of conversation on this week's podcast includes the standard of refereeing in Swansea's game against Fulham on Wednesday night. We spoke to Anthony O'Connell who commentates on Swansea's games for the Swansea City website - he advocates refs being mic'd up as in rugby so that fans know what their team is being penalised for. Aaron was the same, he wants to see refs mic'd up, he thinks there needs to be greater transparency between officials and fans. We spoke to former WBO Cruiserweight champion Enzo Maccarinelli about the work he's doing with mental health. Enzo told us how his dad was his inspiration growing up, how he wouldn't get his pocket money if he didn't train. He also told us of what he feels was his best ever performance and the fact he'd love to have one last fight. He also wants Tyson Fury to beat Deontay Wilder in Vegas. Mike, first timer, feels Steve Cooper's doing a god job overall though some of the flack he's been getting has been justified, while Huw wants Steve Cooper to give goalie Freddy Woodman a bit of a break for him to regain form and confidence. Jay has held the Commonwealth Flyweight title since 2017 and the European Flyweight title since 2019. On this week's Sports Show we looked ahead to this season's 6 Nations Championship which starts this weekend as we take on the Italians in Cardiff on Saturday. Rugby Journalist Mark Orders is tipping France to win it with Wales possibly finishing 3rd. Caller Kev feels Wales' away games against Ireland and England will be tough. Rugby Writer Mark Threadgold feels the minimum requirement for England would be to win the 6 Nations, as a bare minimum! He also feels if Scotland don't deliver some good results its time for Gregor Townsend their coach to go and likewise with Italy, Mark feels if they don't perform people will question their future in the tournament. We also had former Swansea and Wales No 8 Stuart Davies on the show. He feels certain Italy will finish bottom and again reckons many will start to lose patience with them if they don't start winning some games. Both Mark and Liz are Scarlets supporters and are excited by the way Wales will play under Wayne Pivac. He's been forgiven for leaving the Scarlets and becoming Wales Boss! And we also had Greg Hancock on, who's 4 times Speedway World Champion ahead of the British Grand Prix at the Principality Stadium on Saturday. On this week's Real Sports Phone In Podcast, it was a special Rugby World Cup preview. We spoke to Keith Dunn who's the Honorary Consul for Japan in Wales. Keith gets to travel to Japan quite regularly though he won't be there for the World Cup. Caller Gareth says he's confident we'll reach at least the semi finals, while Jim has placed a bet on Wales beating the All Blacks in the final! We also spoke to former Wales Captain and member of the 1987 squad Paul Thorburn who told us how different it was in 87 compared to today. Back then the squad had 2 Coaches and 1 Physio and that was it. There were no Dieticians and Media Officers. Quite a few first timers on this week's Real Sports Phone In podcast including Rob who told us he'd totally shelved his weekend plans at the 11th hour, much to the annoyance of his wife, to head up to Yorkshire to follow the Swans in their game against Leeds. The thing is though, Rob and his wife are looking at houses as they're looking to move back to Swansea!!....Will he survive the weekend??? Jim feels Warren Gatland will spring a few shocks on Sunday when he announces his World Cup squad, and thinks he'll leave Rhys Patchell at home. Gareth felt that innings from Ben Stokes at Headingley last Sunday was the best test match innings he'd ever seen, eclipsing Ian Botham's from the 1981 Ashes series. Nigel is very happy with the start to the season, says he's loving watching Steve Cooper playing some youngsters and the brand of football is great to watch. And then Chris called, in relation to our first caller Rob. He told us he got married last Friday, yet still managed to watch the football across the weekend! He said his wife is very understanding and follows it with him. That is commitment! Don't forget we are live every Friday night between 6-7pm!

Discrimination and abusive incidents were on the increase last season at professional and grassroots level in football according to the Kick It Out Campaign Organisation. We spoke to a rep from the organisation who felt much of that discrimination stemmed from society as a whole but said there's still much work that needs to be done. We spoke to Ammanford Football Club Chairman Rob Thomas who felt there was a need for better communication to encourage more victims to speak out and report these issues while new caller Mohammed who works as a Performance Analyst in football and as a Lecturer on race discrimination suggested the problem has never gone away, its always been there, but its also not just limited to football as he cited the examples of hate being targeted towards Welsh rugby player Gareth Thomas, and the recent opinions of Australian rugby player Israel Folau which caused outrage. On Friday's RSPI we had a terrific response to what your stand-out sporting moment has been in the last 50 years, as we tied in the show to Swansea as a city celebrating its 50th year. Lots of callers opting for the 80/81 Swansea City side getting promotion from the old division 4 to division 1, and for the play-off game against Reading in May 2011 which ensured promotion to the Premier League. Alun opted for Llanelli beating the All Blacks in 1972 while Jim went for the Ospreys winning the old Celtic League. Opinion divided too on Nick Kyrgios - there's no middle ground.
