Forever Bristol City Podcast

This was on a par with that day in September 2005 when City were thrashed 7-1 at the Liberty Stadium by Swansea. Brian Tinnion cut a dejected picture slumped in the dug out some while after the final whistle. He knew his short time as manager had run its course and he was gone within days. Losing 6-0, City's performance can only be described as a disgrace and that goes from the way the side was set up by the coaches to the application showed by experienced professionals who, with a few exceptions,  showed no pride in their performance. Ian, Mark, Lezz, Daniel and host David P discuss the action and suggest what the outcomes should be. Will Ashton pull the trigger on Holden to save his own skin or will the Lansdown take the brave decision to axe both of them plus the coaching staff and start building for next season now - sadly I think not. We talk about the mooted idea of Richard Scudamore being a candidate for CEO should Ashton be gone and question whether Tuesday's game against Reading could be make or break for Holden and how on earth the Berkshire side can afford to be paying [allegedly] Lucas Joao £38k per week!!!

Well, its taken 37 games but finally Saints have just about saved their Premier League status. Only a bizarre set of results, and a gigantic goal-swing, in the final round of fixtures will now see them relegated. But the drama on the pitch at the Liberty Stadium vs Swansea, where Manolo Gabbiadini scored to give Saints a precious 1-0 win, almost paled into insignificance compared to events off of it. Ben Stanfield (Host of TSP) and Adam Leitch (Chief Sports Writer, Daily Echo) look back on quite an incredible 24 hours around the game - with Saints having to change hotel at really short notice, believed to be due to 'dirty tactics' by an overzealous Swansea fan(s). Once that had unfolded they were then advised their pre-arranged police escort from the new hotel had been cancelled. More 'dirty tactics'!? If that wasn't enough the Saints team then had to park their coach and walk to the stadium, as they hadn't been allowed to unload by Swansea staff, due to the home team doing so at the same moment. More 'dirty tactics'!?!?! Hard to think all the above could happen in the modern age of the Premier League. But it did - and Ben and Adam humorously chat their way through it all! The main thing is that Saints will be playing Premier League football in 2018-19. And its been some journey getting to the stage of confirming that! Saints were painfully close to taking all three points on Saturday at Goodison Park. After taking the lead through a well worked team goal finished off by Nathan Redmond at the back post, Saints took the 1-0 lead into stoppage time, though they were light a man after Yoshida was sent off for picking up a second yellow in the 85th minute.   Even after McCarthy made a spectacular save to deny Leighton Baines from a central free kick, John Moss let stoppage time enter the 6th minute of the 4 (no, that’s not an error), and, with the last kick of the match, Tom Davies’ effort from the top of the box took a deflection off of Wesley Hoedt and past an already committed McCarthy.   The draw pulled Saints out of the relegation zone and puts all the pressure and focus on Tuesday night’s clash with Swansea and the Liberty Stadium. Harry Holder (@nadaIesque on Twitter), admin for @TheSaintsReport, joined me to discuss the match and how the other results affect Saints standing in the table.   Harry is also on Instagram and I regularly use his photos from the match on my Instagram page, so please make sure to check him out @hholderphoto and @hholder16.   This podcast is partnered with The Saints Report. #157. On this week's pod Ed & Paul look back on United's victory over Swansea at the Liberty Stadium. The Reds picked up David Moyes' first Premier League win, scoring three 'worldies' on the way, although there were times when the result was more flattering than the performance. Two goals from Danny Welbeck puts the young England international in good stead for the season ahead. Can the much discussed player improve on his meagre goals tally from last season? We talk Wayne Rooney - the player made his comeback against Swansea, creating two goals but looking well below acceptable fitness. Meanwhile, United put in a low bid for Everton pair Marouanne Fellaini and Leighton Baines. The bid was rejected by the Merseyside outfit who claimed to be "insulted" by the "derisory" bid. Finally, we look ahead to Monday night's game against Chelsea. Will Rooney play against his prospective employers?!No Question About That is available on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Stitcher, Spotify, YouTube, Amazon Music and all good podcast apps. #156. Ed & Paul look back on United's victory over Wigan in the Community Shield. In a muted atmosphere United beat the Championship side with a double from Robin van Persie, but what does victory say about the Reds' preparation for the new season? Also on the show this week: we talk about Wayne Rooney, with United apparently taking a hard line on the situation and categorically ruling out a transfer to Chelsea this summer. Then again, United said much the same about Cristiano Ronaldo and David Beckham. Will Rooney stay and what are the consequences for United and the club's rivals this season? We also look back on Rio Ferdinand's testimonial, the international break and some promising performances from United's youngsters. Finally, we look forward to the week ahead - United face Swansea at the Liberty Stadium in a tough opening weekend of the Premier League. No Question About That is available on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Stitcher, Spotify, YouTube, Amazon Music and all good podcast apps.
