1:40Quickfire Questions with Danny MayeDanny Maye reminisced about his childhood memory of scoring a decisive goal for his dad's team at Filbert Street, emphasizing the value of grassroots football experiences. He noted that many young players today miss out on such opportunities, which were more prevalent in the past. Maye also mentioned his football idols, including George Best and Ryan Giggs, and highlighted the significance of his debut match at Port Vale.6:10-Analysis of Football Tactics and EvolutionDanny Maye praised the Barcelona team's ability to control the game and create "wow moments," emphasizing their effective counter-pressing tactics. Michael Wright added that the current trend in football has seen teams, including Manchester City, adopting a more reserved approach to pressing. Maye further explained that the evolution of play styles has made it more challenging to execute counter-pressing effectively.9:07 -Danny Maye's Coaching Philosophy and BackgroundDanny Maye recounted his career path from playing at various clubs to transitioning into coaching, highlighting his experiences at Southampton and Derby. He articulated his coaching philosophy, which centers on building belief in players and fostering positive relationships. Maye stressed the significance of focusing on players' strengths and maintaining a supportive environment to enhance their development.18:18-Coaching Mindset and Player DevelopmentDanny Maye discusses the significance of fostering a belief in players' ability to improve, rather than fixating on their shortcomings. He reflects on past experiences where he misjudged players, such as Ben White, who went on to achieve success despite initial doubts. Maye suggests that a more constructive framing of feedback can lead to better player development outcomes.21:49-Strategies for Implementing Playing StylesMichael Wright addressed the unique position of coaches in establishing a style of play, particularly when players may not have prior experience with it. Danny Maye agreed, noting that players inherently want to press and regain the ball quickly. He shared his experience of initially focusing on high-intensity training, which led to excessive turnovers, prompting a shift towards a more balanced approach in practice design.29:23-Coaching Behavior and Player DynamicsMichael Wright shares his observations of Danny Maye's coaching during a match, highlighting the contrast between his calm sideline presence and his more talkative nature in training environments. Danny elaborates on the necessity of adjusting his coaching style based on the players' performance and the atmosphere of the game, indicating that he aims to foster player autonomy while remaining aware of the team's needs.38:00 - Common Traits of Successful PlayersMichael Wright asked about the common traits of players who have succeeded in professional football. Danny Maye highlighted that while technical and physical skills are crucial, attributes such as unwavering belief, game intelligence, and resilience are also significant indicators of potential. He noted that players often need to demonstrate these qualities to succeed at higher levels.41:00 -Player Development and Transition to First TeamDanny Maye warned against releasing players during critical growth periods, noting that it can affect their confidence and performance. He advised that when players move to the first team, they should focus on showcasing their strengths and maintaining a positive demeanor, rather than playing it safe out of fear of making mistakes. Maye illustrated his point with the example of Nathan Teller, whose personality and character made a strong impression on the first team. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Wayne Rooney, John Terry, Ryan Giggs and Kyle Walker. What do they all have in common? Apart from being millionaire footballers who've scored big for club and country, they've all played away from home in their respective relationships. Walker, the Manchester City defender, has had major success on the pitch for his club but has been a steadier fixture on the gossip pages rather than sporting ones of late. This week he made a tearful public apology after fathering a second child with reality TV star Lauryn Goodman, behind his wife's back. Today on the Indo Daily Fionnán Sheehan is joined by Gemma Abbott, contributor to the UK Independent, and by Daniel McDonnell, football correspondent for the Irish Independent, to ask why do we treat Kyle Walker and other "bad boy" footballers like gods when, as Gemma says it, they're just "inadequate men"? Mo Amir (This is Vancolour) joins the show and brings a little local Vancouver flavour to the podcast, as he gets blocked by a local Member of Parliament despite them never interacting, even after the block when Mo tried to sort it out through official channels. It's a great look into what it means to host a local politics-focused TV show, and how even our government can get down in the muck with us Twitter weirdos. We start out away from our familiar medium by getting into TikTok and paring down our algorithms, and move from there into our favourite older technology: Maxim Magazine. We also chat about casino bands, we get a listener update on Every Buddy's, John's dad gets into Young Sheldon, we read Ryan Giggs' love poems, and Stefan introduces us to Real or Fake: Peep This Out edition. If you wanna peep some more content out, head on over to patreon.com/blockedparty, where $5/month gets you access to THREE bonus episodes every single month. Last week, our Sex and the City series continued with listener Molly, and this week, it's the triumphant return of SECRET PARTY, the special bonus episodes where we read your listener secrets. Check it out! Mo Amir is the host of This is Vancolour, a TV show on CHEK-TV here in British Columbia, and a podcast available wherever you get your pods. You can follow him on Twitter at @vancolour. When your brother is one of the most successful and famous footballers in the world, opportunities are never far from your door. However, with those opportunities come major pitfalls, and Rhodri Giggs has experienced his fair share of both. He's spent time in prison, he was all over the tabloids after becoming a target of the Fake Sheik, and of course, his own brother, Ryan Giggs, had a well-publicised 8-year affair with his own wife.Rhodri has a very interesting approach to all of this adversity, and he speaks honestly about betrayal, forgiveness, and his enduring protectiveness over his brother.Website: DodgeWoodall.comInstagram: @Dodge.WoodallLinkedIn: Dodge WoodallYouTube: Dodge Woodall See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

The Heartwarming Reason Why Ronaldo Considers Sir Alex Ferguson His Father in Football We all have witnessed great moments of respect and love between Sir Alex Ferguson and Cristiano Ronaldo. One such touching moment was captured when Portugal won the Euro 2016 final against France. The former Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson waited in the crowd as the players walked down the steps and he hugged Nani and then Ronaldo like a proud father. What a beautiful moment that was. And because of such incredible support from Sir Alex Ferguson, Ronaldo always says, “Sir Alex is like a father to me in football.” But do you guys know how this relationship started? It was 2003 when Arsenal almost signed a wonderkid who we all now know as the great Cristiano Ronaldo. An £8 million fee was agreed and the player and his mother, Dolores, flew to London where they were introduced to Thierry Henry and other Arsenal stars. Wenger spoke to Ronaldo in his office and even promised him the shirt number he wanted at Arsenal: 28. The reason Ronaldo to Arsenal never got over the line was in large part due to Sir Alex Ferguson, who told Ronaldo and his agent Jorge Mendes that United was the perfect club for him to progress. "We will look after him," Fergie apparently assured them, pointing to his track record of bringing through the likes of Ryan Giggs, David Beckham and Paul Scholes. And you know what, Ronaldo asked Sir Alex for the Number 28 Jersey as well, but the Scottish manager gave him the esteemed Number 7 shirt. A number that is so sacred that it was only used by great players. And as we all know, the rest is history. Ronaldo became one of the greatest footballers on the planet under the guidance of Sir Alex.
