The Alan Mead Experience started off as a storytelling podcast. It was a chance for dental types to tell stories and usually the less "dental" the better. This episode hits that spot perfectly! Both Alan and Dr. Jason Smithson own farms. Al's is in central Michigan and Jason's is in Corwall, England. This episode is a light hearted conversation about the similarities and differences that they've experienced with rural living! As we often do, we stray into a little bit about the blessings and curses of social media, too! Some links from the show: Jason's Instagram robotussin_vintage_synths on Instagram

In this podcast Alan and Dani discuss two prominent stories in the media: Prince Andrew and his case; and the failed case brought by some of Barry Bennell's victims against Manchester City Football Club. Prince Andrew failed to have the case brought against him by Virginia Giuffre dismissed on the basis that she was precluded from suing him having entered an agreement with Epstein. The judge dismissed that argument. Alan and Dani discuss the latest developments and the possible paths the case may travel down. Alan and Dani also discuss the Manchester City judgment and the fact that the judge accepted the victims' accounts of sexual abuse but had left it too late to sue, and in any event the club would not be liable for Bennell' crimes. It was accepted that Bennell had sexually abused the victims, but that the club was not liable. The judge was not prepared to allow the case to proceed out-of-time not so much because of the time gap, but because of the effect of the delay on the evidence. The Limitation Act 1981 allows a claim to procced outside the 3 year time limit for bringing a claim if basically in a case such as this it is fair to do so. In Alan' experience a judge will not agree if key witnesses are dead or potentially important evidence is missing. Both Alan and Dani discuss how the case may have a silver lining for CSA survivors as regards bringing clams against those responsible for abusers. Finally they were asked by a listener to discuss the access to medical records in claims for compensation.

In this episode, hosts Alan Sanders and Walt Murray chat with photographer, Gene Ho, about his career and being selected to document the Donald J. Trump campaign. As usual, the show opens with Alan and Walt recapping their week. Walt manages to keep his voice through most of the show, but he is still on-the-mend from a recent bout with laryngitis. Both Alan and Walt have been slammed with work and home repair/renovation projects. Once Gene Ho hits the stage, we learn how he stumbled across photography in college. After falling in love with the field, he started doing wedding shoots. He was in the right place to get a gig with the wedding of an Atlanta cheerleader. As he mentions, once you get that first foot in the door, he was able to get more of them to hire him. From that point forward, he was climbing on a rocket. As his business grew he had a chance to attend an event where Donald J. Trump was attending. Gene Ho was hired by a magazine to take pictures. Within a couple weeks of that event, Gene got a handwritten message from Donald Trump complementing him for his work. One thing led to another and Gene was asking to be the photo-documentarian of the Trump campaign. Being on the road, photographing hundreds of events over two years really gave Gene a full perspective of the man and the campaign. After the election, Gene worked to release a book called, Trumpography and is now running for the mayor of his home city of Myrtle Beach, SC. After Gene Ho's interview, Alan and Walt moved into the horrible movie review segment. They then covered crazy news and wrapped with the Entertainment segment. WATCHING Walt is catching up on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier episodes. He also watched three films that recently dropped on Amazon Prime: Galaxy Quest, 48 Hours and Buckaroo Banzai. Alan got into a music documentary kick over the last week. He recommends Rush - Beyond the Lighted Stage, ZZ Top - That Little Band from Texas and Echo in the Canyon. He also started the new HBO Max limited series, Mare of Easttown, with Kate Winslet and loves it. He is continuing watching episodes of season 2 of the classic Star Trek. Alan did call out the episode, "Mirror, Mirror," as a particularly good one he just watched. He also finished The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and really liked it. He had one overall criticism over the age of the antagonist, but not enough to ruin the overall feeling. READING Walt finally finished the book, "Running with the Devil," about Van Halen. LISTENING Walt gives a shoutout to The Dirty Harry Minute and their latest coverage of Dead Pool. He is also listening to SmartLess, Radio Labyrinth and History of the Marine Corps. He makes a special call-out to follow astronaut, Shane Kimbrough, on his social media. Shane was a guest last season and is currently on the International Space Station. Alan is listening to the Indiana Jones Minute as they are back to breaking down the fourth film after their hiatus. He is also listening to This Means Something, the Close Encounters of the Third Kind podcast. And, he was recently on the Spotlight Reflection TV show on the 60MW Podcast. Riding Shotgun With Charlie#102Alan LauALau Firearm Training Alan and I have been following each other on social media for a while. We were officially connected by Patrick Collins RSWC #91 & #99 Part 1. He thought Alan would be a great passenger for the show. And he was correct! Alan grew up in Hong Kong and moved to the Boston area when he was 13. He had other family members living in the area, so Massachusetts is where they went. He’s got years of martial arts including Muay Tai and used to referee MMA in New Hampshire until Massachusetts became a sanctioned state to run matches. Alan was a Democrat when he moved to the USA and stayed with the party for a while. During the Obama years is when Alan got into firearms thanks to a Groupon offer. He got his license and bought an overpriced rifle during the Obama administration. He joined a shooting club and started shooting but realized that being an instructor could help him get discounts on firearms. After becoming an instructor, he would get friends and colleagues interested in taking classes. While he maintains a full time job, he teaches as a side hustle. During the early part of 2020 and the pandemic, he offered classes to survivors of domestic violence. He would get them in a class so they can get their License To Carry (LTC). He does as for some help via the Cash App (see the link below to donate to help support those clients.) We drive from Lexington, MA, into Boston and we take the Harvard Bridge (the Mass Ave Bridge) across the Charles River. I do explain to him what a Smoot is since he’s never heard of it. I was a little off in my story. A Smoot is the height(length) of Oliver Smoot, an MIT student and not a professor. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smoot We do grab a selfie on the Boston side of the bridge. Alan also shares his thoughts, feelings and opinions about all of the crimes against Asians. He points out that it’s been going on for years. He says that good people are good people no matter their race, gender, sexual preference, religion, whatever. And that the labeling that is done hurts the whole society. He gives some history about the cancel culture from Asia which has been going on for decades starting with General Mao and leaving people unsure of who they really are in the wake of trying to make everyone the same. He points out that with everything that is going on we are getting more divided. And that all the Asians are being lumped together as the Asian American/Pacific Islanders, even though they haven’t gotten along as societies and cultures. We also re-live a bit of our college days. Both Alan and I went to college in Boston, right down the road from where each other lived, during different years, of course. And we drive down Boylston St in the Back Bay, passing where the Marathon bombers detonated their pressure cooker bomb, and over the Marathon finish line. Then we head to the Public Garden and grab a selfie by Cheers. We are in Boston! We are both instructors in Massachusetts so we have plenty of stories about our gun laws. It’s good to keep in mind that the MA politicians want to export the silly MA gun laws we have. Things like magazine restrictions, so called assault weapon bans, and many other things. Favorite quotes: “I make the students think. I make them evolve.” “We want unity, but now we’re dividing the people. So which one is it?” “We are a second class citizen already.” “I want to be the asset, not the liability. I want the person next to me or around me just as good if not better than I am.” ALau Firearms Training https://www.alaufirearmstraining.com/ ALau Firearms Training on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/ALauFirearmsTraining/ Contact: alaufirearmstraining@gmail.com Cash App: @alautraining Please support the Riding Shotgun With Charlie sponsors and supporters. As part of the Teagasc & ICBF breeding week, Teagasc researchers Nicky Byrne & Alan Twomey join Catherine Egan on this week's Beef Edge podcast to give an update on the Dairy Beef Index (DBI) and an insight into its impact in the future. The Dairy Beef Index is a breeding goal for Irish dairy and beef farmers to promote high quality beef cattle bred from the dairy herd that are more saleable as calves and profitable at slaughter yet, they have minimal consequences on the calving difficulty or gestation length of the dairy cow. Alan explains that it is delivering easy calving for the dairy farmer and high carcass merit for the beef farmer and going forwards in the future it will have a greater impact as it is still early days for being implemented on farm. Nicky advises that the DBI is a great development as it will allow for the identification of bulls with the balance of traits needed to bring better integration of the needs of both dairy and beef farmers, and it will allow for individuals to be identified across a range of breeds, which will become important in flattening the supply curve of dairy beef animals born from a seasonal system. He says that ‘a higher proportion of beef calves will bring greater system efficiency in terms of feed, carcass and probably younger ages at slaughter compared to pure dairy males'. It is especially important for the various bonus and QA pricing system which are in place, which generally require animals to be of a conformation score of greater than O-. Conformation is the number one to increase the value of every kg of beef, similar to our protein and fat in a milk pricing scenario. Both Alan and Nicky believe that beef farmers need to insist that all beef calves are by high genetic merit beef sires to secure their investment and level of risk, so rather than premium prices, it should be a basic requirement. Finally, Nicky concludes with an update of the research in Teagasc Grange on the DBI. Further information on the Dairy Beef index go to: https://www.teagasc.ie/news--events/daily/beef/understanding-the-dairy-beef-index-dbi.php For more episodes and information covered on the Beef Edge, visit the show page at: teagasc.ie/thebeefedge
I honestly don't know where to start with this episode.Clive Tyldesley along with Alan, speak on such a range of topics here, they each offer up some golden stories from their careers. A portion of this episode is dedicated to remembering the great Ian St John, who sadly passed on 1st March 2021. Both Alan and Clive tell of some fantastic encounters with Ian.Other topics in this whirlwind of an episode; Alans time at Stoke City, Bill Shankly, Jack Grealish, England Manager selections, Saint and Greevsie, are kids signed to clubs too young?......it goes on and it's all gold. Listen in to find out what happened when Clive faced Ian St John in a charity match or be glued to your podcast player as Clive recalls pieces of the Heysel Stadium Disaster. A must listen for all.Proper Football, Proper Talk.
In today's episode, Susan and Alan open with a debate over just how badly they did on their meal plan. They both reconcile to put more focus on scheduling a time to discuss the weekly plan. Susan went on to describe the leg day commitment Alan made in the last episode. Alan believes there must be something wrong with his leg muscles to hurt like they do. Susan chided him for never working them enough in the first place. The next topic Alan introduces relates to watching the Netflix limited series, "The Queen's Gambit." Both Alan and Susan loved it and highly recommend watching it. This led to Alan's request for Susan to try something this coming week -- watching the film, "Mad Max Fury Road." As to some health and fitness items, the couple ends with a discussion over popcorn, trans fat, saturated fat, reading labels and trying other alternatives for snacking. On a closing note, Susan recounts giving plasma since she still has active antibodies for Covid-19 and wants to help others who might be struggling. In this episode I am joined by Alan Mattli to discuss two films about rural America: HILLBILLY ELEGY and HALE COUNTY THIS MORNING, THIS EVENING. An adaptation of the best-selling memoir, HILLBILLY ELEGY tells the story of an Ohio family struggling with poverty and the opioid crisis. Alan apologies for choosing the film that he dubs "Acting: The Movie", but is it really that bad? HALE COUNTY THIS MORNING, THIS EVENING is an experiential documentary about an African American community in Alabama. Both Alan and I have seen the film twice now and it has changed how we feel about it(hint: positively).
Alan discusses the preservation of culture and life in Eastern Kentucky with his special guest OT Watts. This episode explores lost culture and practices, preservation of culture, and instilling pride in Eastern Kentucky artists and folks through recollections of their youth. Both Alan and OT grew up in Vancleve, KY (Breathitt County) where traffic lights were non-existent and stop signs were ignored. Enjoy!

This book describes a unique marathon training program developed by Kevin and Keith Hanson, and trained by coach Luke Humphrey, one of Hanson’s early students. The program is interesting as it promotes shorter long runs, and more running days, with lots of easy runs. The idea is to build up aerobic endurance through consistent volume and customized speed sessions, rather than a weekend warrior approach. Both Alan and Liz have tried it, and will describe the rationale and advice in the book, and their hands-on experience with it.If you're looking for a new plan, ideas to improve your marathon performance, or ensure you finish, this is a great book for every runner from novice to elite.
A very busy Real Sports Phone In this week. We spoke to former Welsh International footballer David Giles, who's played for both Swansea and Cardiff. He's expecting a great game but warned Swans fans that Cardiff have a habit of scoring late goals! We also spoke to former Wales rugby captain Paul Thorburn. He told us not to panic that Liam Williams is out of the semi final against South Africa. Although he feels we need an improvement from the France game, we have it in us to win. Caller Jim was extremely confident of a welsh win; Both Alan & Susan went for 3-1 to the Swans, as Susan said....she hopes Steve Cooper has laid the law down to the squad that a Brentord performance is unacceptable! All that & more on this week's podcast.
Hughie is handsome, charming and popular but he has been very unlucky as far as financial matters are concerned. He was left nothing of any great value in his father's will. He has tried his hand at several different businesses, all of which have failed. Having no job, Hughie's only source of income is two hundred pounds a year which is given to him by an elderly aunt. Hughie has fallen in love with a young woman named Laura Merton and she loves him in return. Laura's father, Colonel Merton, is fond of Hughie but, due to his poor financial prospects, he does not want the young man to marry his daughter. He has often told Hughie that he will only allow him to get engaged to Laura after he has earned ten thousand pounds. Hughie goes to see his artist friend Alan Trevor. He finds that Alan is painting a portrait of an old man who appears to be a beggar. The old man is wearing a tattered brown cloak and boots which have been mended many times. He has a rough walking stick in one hand. In the other hand, he is holding out an old hat as if to ask for money. His face is heavily wrinkled and he looks extremely sad. Both Alan and Hughie agree that the old man is an excellent subject for a painting. Hughie, however, cannot help feeling sorry for the man. He thinks it is unfair that, although Alan's paintings regularly sell for two thousand guineas, he only pays his models one shilling an hour to pose for him and does not give them a percentage of the money which he makes from sales of their portraits. When Alan leaves the room, Hughie looks in his pockets. He finds that the highest denomination coin which he has is a sovereign. Although it means that he will have to economize more than usual for the rest of the month, Hughie gives the coin to the old man, who appears very happy to receive it. Hughie leaves soon afterwards. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/hmphaudiobooks/support

Alan and Hughie meet up again later. The artist tells his friend that, after he left, the old man asked several questions about him. Alan goes on to say that he told the old man all about Hughie, Laura Merton and the condition which Colonel Merton set that prevents their marriage. Hughie is unhappy that his friend told "that old beggar" all about his private life. The amused Alan tells Hughie that the old man he was painting was Baron Hausberg, one of the wealthiest men in Europe and someone who often buys Alan's paintings. For reasons which Alan does not really understand, the millionaire baron had asked to be painted as a beggar. The tattered clothes he was wearing were supplied by Alan. Hughie feels ashamed about having given a coin to a millionaire, although Alan tells him not to worry. The following day, a representative of Baron Hausberg comes to Hughie's house with an envelope. The writing on the envelope says that it contains a wedding present "from an old beggar". Inside the envelope, Hughie finds a check for ten thousand pounds. Hughie and Laura get married. Baron Hausberg attends their wedding. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/hmphaudiobooks/support

ST44 : Stephen interviews Alan Leung Introverts are normally not thought of as very ambitious. They are usually generalized as computer nerds or engineers. Alan is an introvert, but he is a determined introvert. Alan Leung was blessed to be born and raised in beautiful Sunny San Diego. H continues to reside in San Diego with his lovely wife Wendy. Alan is the owner and operator of Mobilezilla. Mobilezilla helps serve San Diego by providing two great services: 1 buy used phones, smartwatches, laptops, ipods, tablets, ipads, gopro, kindles and other electronics from the user who no longer wants them. Instead of letting it sit on your desk collecting dust, get cash for your items and you don't have to worry about them anymore. Alan started his entrepreneurial journey at the age of 28. He's failed forward many times and now has two profitable businesses from the lessons he's learned throughout his journey. Aside from running his own business, he's also a passive investor in real estate and business opportunities. Alan first started in this business in 2015. Since then, he's currently doing about 12K a month in revenue with about 40% of that being profit. Prior to running his own business, Alan worked in the insurance industry for 7 years. He also has experience managing a restaurant as he has done so for many years at his families restaurant. Alan spends about 50 hours a week working in the trenches, and another 20 hours working on his craft, working on his mindset and working on ideas. Alan was inspired to get started with Mobilezilla as he knew he wanted to run his own business. He wasn't sure what type of business and accidentally fell into this when. He was shopping for second hand phones for his family, and realized that people selling the phones weren't always upfront and honest. He knew there had to be a better way to do this and to treat the people not only buying but selling these items as well. Alan and his wife currently do not have any kids, but plan to have some in the near future. They have a lazy loveable King Charles called Au Au, which translates to cow cow. Aside from business, Alan is passionate about fishing. He loves spending his free time kayak fishing in La Jolla. He also likes to give back by donating time or money to causes that help the enviornment, the red cross, humane societ, the and the homeless. Alan's Pet Peeve's are when people say one thing, but do something else. He believes that you should always communicate and have the decency to let others know if there are a change of plans. Alan is bilingual, he speaks English and Chinese. He speaks two different dialects of Chinese, Cantonese and some Mandarin. Fun Facts about Alan include that he loves to eat, but he also believes in being healthy. His love for food usually wins over but when he's serious about his health, he's all in and doesn't budge. Alan also hates heights and roller coasters. Alan is what you would call a determined introvert. In todays episode, Stephen interviews Alan Leung also known as the F.U.K (follow up king). Since last time Alan has started a side hustle, now he sells electronics, and other items. Alan not only resells items, but he also fixes Iphone screens, and has a family business. With so much hustle going on, Alan basically plans out his days to a T, He knows what days he has to be at the family business, and works his schedule around that. Its very important when you are so busy to make sure you have good communication, so your customers don’t think you are ignoring them. Something unique about these companies is 10% of their proceeds go to the humane society, and the red cross. Growing up, Alan’s parents tried their hardest to give him and his brothers everything they could. Both Alan’s mom and dad worked full time, and they gave them the work ethic he has today. Alan worked in insurance, but found himself hating his job, then his sister introduced him to network marketing. A few years after that Alan joined Stephen’s mastermind, and really enjoys the iron sharpening iron environment. One day Alan wants to get a store front, that way he can have employees run things for him, and he could have time to work on other ventures. Alan’s best advice would be to get a mentor, and you don’t need permission from other to get what you want done.
