New data, same headlines. The surveys and studies always seem to repeat the same refrain: Church attendance is in decline. Religious participation is phasing out of American life. Except…our data shows the opposite. In our most recent edition of The Unstuck Church Report, the average year-over-year attendance increase was 17% across churches of all sizes. There's clearly something different about the churches engaging with our surveys. In this series, we're going to try to explain what's so different about unstuck churches and give you some practical ways to make sense of the things contributing to church growth or decline. We have our own data and observations from the work we do that we will share in the next two episodes, but we wanted to start out with an exploration of recent data and trends from an authority on religion in American life. The social graces we once took for granted in terms of how we treat other have fallen away and been replaced with an anger and argumentativeness that's always on. How'd this happen and what, if anything, can we do about it? Nutritional supplements are a recurring topic in discussions between doctors and patients. Many people incorporate supplements into the daily routine when they are looking to enhance their well-being or cure an ailment. But how do you know if you're using the right nutritional supplements? On this episode of Back Talk Doc, Dr. Sanjiv Lakhia and Dr. Tod Cooperman, MD discuss how to choose effective supplements, and what factors you should consider when looking to add supplements to your diet. Dr. Cooperman is the president, founder, and editor-in-chief of ConsumerLab.com, which is dedicated to independent reviews of supplements. He pursued the testing and review of supplements after seeing the impact of the DSHEA act in the 1990s, which allowed companies to make claims about products that they previously weren't able to, leading to an explosion of interest in the health supplement market. Understanding what goes into supplements can be a complex science in an industry that lacks FDA regulation. The team at ConsumerLab.com has set up detailed testing procedures at specialized labs to identify which products on the market are delivering on their claims. Despite a boom in popularity, Dr. Cooperman explains he's not a fan of gummies because their dosage can be inaccurate due to the semi-liquid environment of the product. “There are not a lot of requirements from the FDA, but a product does have to have 100% of what it claims,” says Dr. Cooperman. “So companies don't want to produce a product that's going to fall below that; otherwise, they're in violation of the regulations. So they put in more.” Dr. Cooperman also shares insight into how to make an informed purchase, what to be wary of when shopping online for supplements, and what supplements he takes personally.

Have something that is just for you during marriage, don't just devote yourself to your husband and your kids. I know that's how women are, we're always putting ourselves last and being preoccupied with other people's needs, and I've seen a lot of women that when the marriage breaks down, they are completely bereft because they didn't keep anything for themselves.”

Barry Massarsky is a partner and co-practice leader - music economics andvaluation services at Citrin Cooperman,  and was the founder of Massarksy Consulting, which he sold to Citrin Cooperman early in 2022. He is credited with pioneering the economics of royalty cash flows in the early 1990s. And together with his business partner Nari Matsuura developed a model to guide banks lending to music investors. Last year Massarksy Consulting valued over 400 catalogs totaling more than $9 billion. We start with Barry's path into this somewhat esoteric area of finance, his experience studying at Cornell and how he first developed an interest in valuing music cash flows.  The rather unusual place for this to start was an internship on Capitol Hill and an anti-trust case.  Since then, his career has had ups and downs and we talk about one such "down" which required him to start again, and how he used his network to do so. We dive in then to the dynamics of the music industry today, the impact of streaming and the innovation that essentially saved the industry from cannibalization.  We speak about recent music deals, such as the valuation of prominent music catalogs and the different dynamics that is driving demand today - such as the abundant production of content. We end with paying homage to some of the extraordinary artists and leaders that Barry has worked with and distill some of their wisdom into some takeaways from the podcast. Series 2 of 2023 is kindly sponsored by Beach Point Capital Advisors, an investment manager that believes in investment beyond the traditional.  It specializes in credit investments and employs a flexible, value-oriented, risk-controlled focusing on complex and less well-followed opportunities.  You can find all of our podcasts on The Fiftyfaces Hub, Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts.

Our guest at the roundtable is Rob Cooperman from https://conservativefestivaloh.com/ (Stage Right Productions), Inc., a non-profit, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization promoting the Natural Theatre. He started this organization to give credence to a truly marginalized group of artists whose voices are systematically silenced. The whole idea of a conservative voice in theatre has, of course, been met with derision and scorn by the tolerant keepers of the arts in this country (and abroad). We talk about that, and more. Recorded at Channel 511, a production of 511 South High Media LLC. Stephen E. Palmer, Esq. has been practicing criminal defense almost exclusively since 1995. He has represented people in federal, state, and local courts in Ohio and elsewhere. Though he focuses on all areas of criminal defense, he particularly enjoys complex cases in state and federal courts. He has unique experience handling and assembling top defense teams of attorneys and experts in cases involving allegations of child abuse (false sexual allegations, false physical abuse allegations), complex scientific cases involving allegations of DUI and vehicular homicide cases with blood alcohol tests, and any other criminal cases that demand jury trial experience. Steve has unique experience handling numerous high publicity cases that have garnered national attention. Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth interview with Bruria Cooperman, Author of “For THIS I Survived? Children of Survivors Beyond the Trauma”About Harvey's guest:Her kindergarten teacher told her mother that she does not stop talking. There is nothing she keeps secret. (So be careful.) And nothing has changed. She still talks too much and she still loves to entertain people with her stories.Various people have told her she should be on stage, she should do comedy, she should … Whatever it was, it was all true and perhaps her life would have gone in a different direction but she never stood still long enough. There was always one more adventure to try.Her friends teased her because she would never hang up her pictures. They stayed on the floor, leaning against the wall, waiting to be packed up, just in case she needed a quick exit. Commitment for her was tough. Her wanderings had begun early. The family immigrated to Canada in 1954, moving to Hamilton where she was given the name Brenda. No one could even pronounce her name nor would they try. That was the beginning of the countdown to get out of there. She always knew that New York was the only place to be. At her first opportunity, she was out of there. First college then grad school at NYU. She returned to Toronto where she dabbled in film production – an iffy career that gave you status but little remuneration. With her tastes and dreams, teacher's college could fill in the gaps and give her the summers off. From the beginning of September to the end of June, she ‘pretended' to be normal with a normal job – teaching high school. But it was always about the next adventure and she needed money for that. When July 1st came around, she was on a plane going somewhere. Wanderings around England, France and Switzerland. A semester in Sienna — with the Paleo a highlight. Italy was her favourite. If people asked her brother, his answer was always the same. “Still peripatetic.”Still feeling the wanderlust, Japan was the next stop on her life journey. Six years living like a queen but even that began to wane.As many times before, she returned to Canada. This time she decided it was time to get married. (She came to everything late!) On a dare, she placed an ad in The Globe and Mail. Earl Cooperman, of Ottawa, Canada, answered and it was a done deal, instantaneously. She moved to the nation's capital where she shared a house with a husband, a teenager, two goldfish, a hamster and a dog named Kafka. After staring at the walls and missing her friends and family, she went back to school and received a doctorate at the University of Ottawa. She now lives in Toronto with her husband and a mutt called Izzy, close to their three children, their spouses and eight grandchildren. It was time to write ‘the book'. Twenty years later but that's par for the course. She does public speaking and is available to anyone who will listen. She loves to talk and make people laugh! In her spare time, Bruria loves to work with paper in all its forms.
