Simon Carabetta openly describes himself as a typical arrogant, egotistical 20 year old, back in the early 2000's. He joined me on Max's Island to speak about these times and his early introduction into the local ‘pro-wrestling” scene in WA. After a chance meeting with a group of guys of a similar age, he was drawn into being involved in an emerging organisation at the heart of this ‘pro-wrestling' scene. His strong ego put him front and centre of this group and he immediately took on the roles of ‘marketing/PR guru' and ‘event night referee'. He was now in the scene and ready to ride the wave of growth with this enthusiastic band of wrestling brothers. And, then following an event mishap to one of the groups wrestlers, that attracted significant media attention, he was thrust into the public limelight as the spokesman for the group.
In this episode, we sit down with Cody Hanson, drummer of the iconic rock band Hinder, to discuss:

Many of us react to the term “performance review” with a shudder. It's that awkward periodic conversation in which we have to hear feedback, share our assessments of each other, and, occasionally, clash with our colleagues. But do performance reviews have to be like that? We hear from Chicago Booth's Stacey Kole. Does she think that performance reviews are worth saving, and if so, how can they be revamped? -- Today we're bringing you a special episode from our podcast colleagues here at the University of Chicago. Now, if you've ever held a job – almost any job – you've probably experienced the performance evaluation. The annual review. The quarterly goal setting update. That moment when you're asked… or told… how you've been doing in your job. Sometimes it comes as a surprise email over a weekend telling you to list five things you did last week or be fired. But more often, it's part of a regular process in your workplace. So here's the question: how valuable are those moments? What good do they do? Are they worth the time and energy put into them? I have many thoughts – but will keep them to myself and instead hand the microphone over to our friends at the Chicago Booth Review podcast, and my fellow U Chicago podcasthost Hal Weitzman. Here's Hal getting answers to those questions and more – while I go fill out my performance review. Perfection! Five stars! Right?

Victor shares the story of Big Mamma's evolution—from a scrapped concept to a European dining sensation now setting its sights on the U.S. He discusses the brand's commitment to immersive dining, bold hospitality, and innovative technology, including his latest venture, Sunday.Key Takeaways• Big Mamma was initially meant to be a French breakfast café, but after just six weeks, Victor and his team realized the concept lacked excitement and scalability. They pivoted to Italian cuisine, recognizing its universal appeal and their passion for it.• Victor attributes Big Mamma's success to his and his co-founder's decision to step back and empower their team – handing off tasks such as ingredient sourcing led to noticeable improvements in quality and efficiency, proving that growth comes from trust and leadership.• The goal was always to build an international brand, so Big Mamma expanded quickly beyond France. London became a crucial market, offering a world-class clientele and proving to be their strongest European location.• To support expansion, Big Mamma brought in McWin as an anchor investor, allowing them to raise capital and secure debt financing without diluting ownership. This move ensured they could scale while maintaining control of their vision.• Sunday, their payment processing app, started as an in-house solution to improve efficiency. It quickly gained traction, with 70% of guests opting in. Seeing its potential, Victor spun it off as a separate company—much like OpenTable revolutionized reservations.• After seeing success across Europe, Victor and his co-founder decided it was time to enter the U.S. market, bringing Big Mamma's signature experience stateside.• Hot Takes: The fun kicks off with “Food Service Feud”, where Victor Lugger reveals what surprises European servers most about American diners.
