These bad fat areas if left unchecked give rise to a multitude of physiological complications within our bodies and as such its advisable to make adjustments when necessary, by way of a healthy diet, regular exercise and visits to your GP, Personal Trainer, Dietician and or Endocrinologist. Part 3 of 3 to follow next week. Watch the episode on YouTube, listen on Spotify, Amazon Music and Apple Podcasts. Feel free to comment, share and subscribe to the channel for more content. In this conversation, Jeff Sarris and Jill Harris discuss the implications of consuming almonds, particularly in relation to kidney stones. They explore the role of oxalates in kidney stone formation, the importance of dietary adjustments, and the need for proper guidance in managing kidney health. The discussion emphasizes the balance between healthy eating and the potential risks associated with overconsumption of certain foods, particularly almonds and spinach.TakeawaysAlmonds are often considered healthy but can contribute to kidney stones.Oxalates found in almonds can lead to high levels in urine, increasing stone risk.Dieticians may not always provide specific advice on oxalate levels. Many people overconsume healthy foods, thinking more is better. It's essential to monitor oxalate levels in urine to prevent kidney stones.Reference ranges for oxalate levels in urine may be misleading.Dietary changes can significantly lower oxalate levels and prevent stones.Almonds and spinach are commonly removed from kidney stone diets.Other nuts can be consumed in moderation as alternatives to almonds.Education on kidney health and diet is crucial for prevention.00:00 Understanding Almonds and Kidney Stones06:25 Dietary Recommendations for Kidney Stone Prevention——When you're ready, here's how I can helpSince 1998, I've helped thousands of patients prevent kidney stones. This chat with Dietician and Exercise Physiologist Kate Save was a meandering affair where we dropped breadcrumbs of information, education, psychology and sociology along the way. We spoke about the very common state of doing life on a kind of "auto-pilot", even when it's consistently not working. We discussed some ideas and strategies to escape the unfulfilling Groundhog Day that keeps so many of us trapped in stagnation and frustration. We also chatted about calories vs. nutrients, function (how we work) vs. aesthetics (how we look), destination disappointment (why we're not always happy when we reach our goal), how people perceive Kate and I (apparently she's cold and I'm terrifying), and the necessary (due to environment or situation) social challenge of building a functional relationship with people you may not like. Tricky. Enjoy.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In the new year, a lot of people would have jumped on new “detoxes” from juice cleanses to an “activated charcoal” diet. But are these detoxes the real deal, or a simple fad? All to discuss with Sarah Keogh, Dietician and Founder of Eatwell.
To unpack this, John Maytham is joined by Tayla du Plessis, Dietician at the Sports Science Institute of South Africa, who helps us understand why BMI can be misleading for some people, and where it still plays a useful role. While organisations like the American Medical Association acknowledge BMI’s limitations, they also stress that it remains a helpful screening tool when used alongside other health indicators — not in isolation. In Season 2, Episode 7, Anne Hancock Toomey sits down with Lisa Shannon, CEO of Allina Health, to discuss her impressive trajectory from a rural community in Ohio to leading a health system with 12 hospitals and dozens of clinics across Minnesota and Wisconsin. Shannon began her career as a hospital-based dietician, growing and evolving to become a highly respected executive and leader. That success came from the early influence of her grandmother, along with, of course, mentors and leaders along the way. Shannon talks about a devastating medical error that affected her family early in her life. Indeed, one of Shannon's priorities throughout her leadership career has been the pursuit of zero safety events, which includes creating a culture where anyone and everyone is empowered to speak up.
