The Unexpected

We are back for a quick recap on the TERRIFIC Boston Red Sox series at Fenway, and the HORRENDOUS Los Angeles Angels series at Rogers Centre...there are a lot of things to unpack here. Pitching has been good, but offense and defense are two major things the Jays need to work on.  We also give some love to outstanding 3rd baseman Matt Chapman, and breakdown what we think is going on with both Bo Bichette and Teoscar Hernandez. Things could only go up from here though right?

The Toronto Blue Jays are fresh off a 3 game series win against the disheveled Boston Red Sox, outscoring them 61-10, and we have A LOT to chat about. Boston's defense was ROUGH this weekend, and the Blue Jays' bats were HOT (as was the weather in Boston), scoring the most runs any Blue Jays team has ever had in one game (28-5). Raimel Tapia has been showing up for the team, hitting only the second infield grand slam in franchise history, and of course, we have some new opinions on him. What comes next for this fired up team?

We are back yet again with discussions on everyone's FAVOURITE Canadian baseball team, the Toronto Blue Jays. With more and more trade talk happening about the Washington Nats' Juan Soto, could he really become a Blue Jay? We bring our many thoughts, questions, and concerns to the table with this big one. We also chat about the newly announced All-Stars (incl. fellow Canadian Jordan Romano), and the newest Blue Jay in the nest, selected 23rd overall, LHP Brandon Barriera (proper last name pronunciation TBD).

The Toronto Blue Jays have fired the one and only Charlie Montoyo, and as ones that have defended him in the past, of course we have LOTS to talk about. We discuss how we feel about Charlie leaving, how we think the event played out (front office...), and what we think could come out of John Schneider and the quickly approaching trade deadline.

We are back with another chat session about everyone's favorite Toronto Blue Jays - this time from the Land Down Under (AKA Australia).  We quickly debrief a few hot topics in Jays news, such as the everyone's idol Charlie Montoyo, the lack of offense, pitching, and Juan Soto trades. Love is also given for MLB's number 4 prospect: Gabriel Moreno.

Another day, another much needed Blue Jays update. We are back with an all-around chaotic review of what has been happening with the Toronto Blue Jays recently - with a quick preview of what is coming with the Yankees in Rogers Centre. We discuss the highly debated topics of the starting pitching, the bullpen, and everyone's favourite, Bo "Bo Flows" Bichette. 

The Toronto Blue Jays are finished up with their first series of the 2022 season, AND their first series win of the 2022 season. This round of Unexpected Jays recaps what a rollercoaster this series against the Texas Rangers was, and what we can look for in the next series against everyone's favourite (said lightly) New York Yankees. It is still very early in the season so some nerves are understandable, especially because this team seems to be one of the most hyped in baseball. Are we nervous based on some players' performance? Maybe. Is it something to be worried about? Absolutely not. 

It's now April which OF COURSE means March Madness continues. With the mens and women's final four upon us, who better then to give the greatest breakdown of all time?! Katelyn also proves that she has the better basketball brain as her brackets are still going meanwhile so-called "expert" Tim's may or may not have failed. Despite the great protest, Katelyn jumps on the Bandwagon with the Love Machine, Stanford, and of course Paige Bueckers. Also, Will Smith slapped Chris Rock…in case you didn't know.

The time has finally come! For the first time ever, the Unexpected duo focus on one thing and one thing only: the Toronto Blue Jays! We manage to stay on topic and review the recent trade moves the Blue Jays have made, including the very serious repercussions that result from the trade of Randal Grichuk for the Colorado Rockies' Raimel Tapia. We also discuss our feelings about the big move of Matty Chapman, and deep dive into a rather unexpected Reese McGuire incident...

It's that wonderful time of year again…March! Who better to give the run down than the Unexpected duo with their supreme knowledge of the Madness that is March. Brackets may or may not have survived the making of the episode. Even more madness is had as we chat about the back and better than ever, the up and coming, the “oh how we've missed you”, baseball! More specifically, we've got some things to say on some recent moves, *cough cough* Freddie Freeman is an LA Dodger. Madness even continues into hockey where we find that the Canucks have a legit chance of sneaking into the playoffs now?! 

We are back, unlike baseball as of when we recorded this episode, but you know what else is back?  Everyone's favourite Roll Up the Rim! And this time, it's even bigger cause a certain Australian can now get involved in the fun! And with the all of the possible prizes, could a new baseball season be possible? Clearly, because right after this recording baseball was back (you are welcome baseball fans). It's also a somber mood as the Seahawks have come to end of an era, but we shall not worry because Katelyn has a Denver Broncos shirt. Madness is 100% in the air!!! 

The Unexpected go back to their roots on  Zoom as absolute Podcast Pros now. We discuss some of the sourness that is Baseball right now. Huge shoutout to  Rob for being so lazy (peep the reference to the title) and so...Rob. The sadness doesn't go on for too long because what starts on Monday? ROLL UP THE RIM! Roll up the rim is back and just in time for March Madness to begin! The hype for March Madness is slowly starting to show and we are ready for it all - except for the actual watching part. ESPN if you could help a Canadian and an Australian out with that that would be fantastic, thanks.

They've made it to 50 episodes. It's been a wild and Unexpected ride but what a better way to celebrate it than by taking it back to where it all began…with the Vancouver Canucks! In the final days of the duo being together in Canada, they take on none other than the Canucks playing it out with the Anaheim Ducks, FINALLY getting to see Dream Boy Bo in the flesh. Unfortunately, the performance was not as amazing, but that didnt stop it from being the greatest Unexpected moment. (It also helps to get yourself on the jumbotron?) 

Live from Vancouver it's The Unexpected!! The Unexpected duo continue the in person podcasts, although…not live. Vancouver presents a host of interesting thoughts for Katelyn.  The duo also discuss the upcoming main event of the Great White North trip: Orcas vs the Ducks. As well as touching on the Superbowl and also the disaster that is baseball, and they also run into issues with everyones new favourite Unexpected game

The Duo are back in town! A town in Canada that is, and Tim just can't stop being hyped about it. Katelyn really puts him to the ultimate Canadian test and tests his knowledge of none other than Canadian Jingles. On the sports side of things, the Toronto Raptors are winning and in great form thanks to first time all star Fred VanVleet, or better known as Fred Van-Elite.  On the hockey side of things, Montreal gets laughed at because...why not, and we also focus on the beloved Canucks and the current up and down situation and they find themselves in. AND of course,  we continue with another saga of everyone's favourite unexpected game. 

Although one of the dreaded "three C's" has striked, the duo are back for another appearance. (Stop if you've heard that before). Tim's adventures continue in Canada with many, and we mean MANY , Timmies stops along the way.  The long-awaited Popeyes trip also takes place where Katelyn points out that Tim, after all these years, has gotten the world-famous slogan wrong.  With football on everyone's brains, we reflect on Katelyn's sports dreams getting crushed again as the Buffalo Bills fail causing, yet again, more heartbreak. The Canucks song makes a highly-anticipated return, and we play some fun new games. Everyone loves playing games right?

The time has finally come. We have an Aussie in Canada. I repeat. We have an Aussie in the Great White North! The first episode featuring none other than a Canadian and an Australian in the SAME LOCATION is upon us. Minus some audio errors and glitches, this could be the greatest thing ever. How did this duo come to be The Unexpected? Here we have the story of a lifetime.

Backstreet's back, ALRIGHT! Unexpected duo Katelyn and Tim return from the lab with an update on their unexpected hiatus - Like good old times, this really gets off track. Big plans get announced and the future of the Unexpected is revealed.  Something massive may be fast occurring, and we drop some *subtle* hints as to what that could be. 

Welcome back! This week, we continue to follow the unexpected upcoming baseball career of Tim's, along with some classic Atlanta Braves vs Toronto Blue Jays banter - long live the 0-6 games played between the two. We surprisingly come across a new NBA team that we're saying is THE Unexpected team, and we try and figure out if Scottie Barnes has warmed up to Katelyn? With the NFL season in full swing, this pro fan and pro beginner fan duo have you covered with combined  performance rankings with another VERY key contributing factor for all the star players. 

After a *brief* hiatus, the Unexpected duo is back and better than ever - this time, as an Unexpected trio with Hops "Geek" News' very own Matt AKA "Mash". Rants and smack talk begin VERY early in this one, and its Katelyn and Matt vs. Tim and his broken baseball dreams. The NFL plays a big role, as lots of fantasy plays are discussed, as well as some major fantasy advice from the best beginner player around.  Katelyn also makes the full announcement of which NFL team she is going to support, even though she may have already said it. The NBA is also starting up again, and of course the gang brings their predictions. And while the biggest Dunkin' Donuts fan and Tim Hortons' fan are together, of course the topic of coffee is discussed, with major swag coming soon. Matt & Tim also make the decision to plan a PS5 playdate.

Another week, another Unexpected mourning session as the Toronto Blue Jays are officially done for the season. Katelyn is still trying to gather herself after the hectic week in baseball. Quick recaps of the Blue Jays final games as we get ready for a couple crazy weeks of baseball postseason coming up. Regular Season hockey is also getting discussed as we are only days away from being ALL CANUCKS, ALL THE TIME (plus with some Toronto Raptors as well as NBA is heating up). Tim Horton's Roll up the Rim extravaganza continues this week as we are still waiting for their merch to arrive, and Katelyn gives Tim a piece of her mind as she hears some bad news about a certain Country....

This week…is a sad week. Tragedy strikes the Blue Jays and boy oh boy does Katelyn ever feel it. To add to her strong feelings, tragedy continues to strike with another saga of Tim Hortons Roll up the Rim. 5 rewards points anyone? The Unexpected duo manage to snap some sick drip from everyone's favourite Canadian coffee brand though, and Tim compliments the announcement with  Canadian accents and a declaration of love for Calgary. Also have some Montreal "Habs" thoughts, along with news of Elias and Quinny coming home. Oh, and Happy International Podcast day!

IT. HAS. RETURNED! It's a bit of a throwback style as the episode opens with a little of everybody's favourite Roll up the Rim! Is this the time Katelyn wins a car? Tim doesn't wanna feel left out of the excitement so he brings his own twist! The final weeks of baseball are here and it's making  Katelyn very sad, especially because the Blue Jays are right on the edge of playoffs. It look like Kevin Kiermaier may be scared that the Blue Jays could make the playoffs and needs as many advantages as possible…there's absolutely no debate happening here at all. Don't forget it's also hockey time! Is it Canucks time?  Maybe if they would hurry up and sign two of their stars it would be. 

BLUE JAYS ARE HOT! What a week for the Blue Jays as they are firmly in the wildcard discussion now.  Camden Yards is officially a weird a place for the Blue Jays to go with Managers yelling at Cy Young pitchers, scoring an Unexpected amount of runs in 7 innings, and of course our Rookie of the Year Alek (with a K) Manoah dominating the Tampa Bay Rays. Katelyn Fantasy Football career is off to a fantastic start with a major win in Week 1, and we take a very serious look at her team. With our Unexpected thoughts this week, Tim shares a very sad story about his daily struggles, and Kately shared some big news about something special that is returning to The Unexpected!

It's the most wonderful time of year! With football season around the corner and baseball playoffs in sight, we cannot keep our excitement down! The Unexpected duo focuses in on the Blue Jays pathway to playoff baseball, including looking at the MVP of August for the Blue Jays, and revealing the Top 6 best players for the Blue Jays this season.  In addition to your typical unexpectedness that involves Disney's Moana, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, street performers, and a Canada vs Australia debate, Tim also includes his three random stories he saw and Katelyn continues to tell Tim that no cares about the Atlanta Braves.

Katelyn is on the move again! However, this time its not pants that got encountered along the way - there's an even more bizarre experience shared in this episode's Unexpected thoughts. Katelyn also *very loudly* shares how she has gotten into Fantasy Football, including recent trades she has witnessed and the familiar faces that happened to make her team. Tim shares 3 interesting stories he discovered throughout the week including fake high school football teams, Kim Kardashian, and Jake Paul, and as always we've got ENDLESS Blue Jays content and recaps of the CFL.

This week, The Unexpected duo have found yet another favourite player that deserves all our love and glory, but this time, more than ever before, and its none other than Blue Jays' Robbie Ray. We are ready to fight to the death for this man, who is fresh off a win with 14 strikeouts, to be in the running for the AL Cy Young. We also reminisce on some of our old episodes and come up with some big coffee plans we can bring back into the mix (just like our Roll up the Rim days). We also realize we are getting closer to being convinced that The Unexpected Jinx is the biggest jinx in all of sports... like its pretty bad now. We also have a BIG REVEAL in the land of the Unexpected Bracket and chat about how the NHL is less then 50 days away!

The Blue Jays bullpen is back up to their old tricks again... The most Unexpected Duo return to break down the past week in Blue Jays land, from an ugly series in Seattle, to a very unwanted George Springer injury. We chat about Bo and Vladdy possibly finding themselves in some Unexpected slumps, but one thing we do know is Teoscar Hernandez is certainly not slumping. Gotta hand it to the bullpen, as they should be mentioned twice they're that annoying. We also look at how the rest of season can shape up for them to have a chance at making the playoffs.

The wait is over... The wait that is this episode and the biggest event in the Unexpected Bracket. As the NFL season is just around the corner its now priority number one to get Katelyn an NFL team. Will it be the Panthers, Bills or Seahawks? Who knows. One team that Katelyn does know is the Toronto Blue Jays, and we chat about how their West coast trip is going and all about Alek Manoah's greatness. Oh and we quickly break the bad news for moustache man of none other than the Toronto Maple Leafs. 

It's been a wild wild wild last few weeks in sports.  We make sure to discuss the new found position for John Tortorella (who Katelyn just absolutely loves), and Benning senses the pressure in Canucks land, is it enough?  It's a sad day in Raptor land as the GROAT legend says farewell, we check up on an old Raptor/Bulls new adventure, and Katelyn also has some thoughts on the Scottie Barnes selection. Oh, and the Blue Jays are hot right now with George Springer and his nonstop dingers, and Vlad leading the way!

Katelyn is in full on fight mode in this week's Olympic themed episode as things get heated with her and Tim debating who has the better country in the Olympics. Katelyn makes sure to highlight the Canadian success in the Winter Olympics, whereas Tim makes sure to point out the Australian's success in the pool in the Summer - too bad the Australian swimming skills don't carry over to ALL Australians. We also bring back everyone's favourite FOOTBALL with the Unexpected Bracket coming back into business, Aaron Rodgers bringing some love for The Office, and preparation for the upcoming CFL season!

This week we take you on an unexpected ride that starts with a bit of Marvel talk and Tim deciding to  continue with an odd chess theme. Will we ever know what truly happened to the Stanley Cup? Why'd it really end up back in Montreal.... The Canucks get a lot of air time this week for a change, will they continue their trend of solid 1st round picks? With current hockey, its time to get Kraken with the exapnsion draft. Oh and Bucks decided to win the NBA Championship and who else but our delightful Canadian Katelyn to get her prediction spot on. Also is there an obvious (and unexpected) trend with the 2021 Champions?

Happy Birthday! We are 30! So many things are celebrated here today with a full review of the MLB purple carpet, and the milestone that is The Unexpected's 30th birthday (yikes). We have unexpected chess thoughts, as well as an in depth hand-size comparison. Baseball is definitely hot and dangerous, and we focus on the events of the Home Run Derby, including the amazing Shohei Ohtani, and Pete Alonso hitting balls out of this world. But first, how good is Vladimir Guerrero Jr.? The correct answer: Very good. Fernando Tatis Jr.? Very good. They're fashion sense at the All-Star game? VERY GOOD. We discuss everything about the style of some of baseball's greatest, and of course, attack Tim (and his exquisite fashion sense) along the way. 

The "greatest Canadian and Australian sports podcast" is back this week, this time, with a formal spin. As. result of Tim's new found bromances, he decided that its time to"start looking like Kevin Bieksa", meaning its time to dress to impress for the podcast. We give an inside look at the TikTok adventures we have been having, and discuss a very serious icon in life that Tim, as an Australian, has not gotten to experience. We've got our thoughts on the Damian Lillard trade talks, briefly cover the final moments of the Stanley Cup finals, and cover recent happenings with the Toronto Blue Jays and Atlanta Braves. NBA finals are happening, meaning we have to include our updated predictions, and for some extra fun, Tim quizzes Katelyn on some very *unexpected* stories in sport. 

This week it's time to pull the pants down and show some love for baseball! (We explain the reference in case there are a lot of question marks right now). Ever wondered how high you can count in 10 seconds? Well, let Tim explain his thoughts behind it. Katelyn expresses her new found love for Carey Price, and we express how we really want Tampa to win the Stanley Cup.... Things are really heating up in the NBA playoffs, as well as in Canada where everyone and everything is melting during a heatwave, so this episode is dedicated to Iced Coffee. 

Does size matter? In reference to NBA players making their shots? Yes, it very much does. We recount Kevin Durant's toe getting in the way of the Brooklyn Net's chance at the NBA championship, and continue to give a detailed analysis on shoe sizes in sport, with what we believe is an answer to all players' problems. We give a recap on some expectations from the Philidelphia 76ers and Brooklyn Nets pre-season reports, and reflect on what really happened with their seasons...yikes. Katelyn retells a traumatic event that happened in her life, but it's nothing Captain America can't fix (if you know, you know). Of course, High School Musical makes another grand appearance - and this time, with song. 

Has anyone seen Kevin Durant and Jamie Foxx in the same room? Are we for sure they're not the same person? They look the exact same... The greatest duo with the endless banter and attacks on each other is back and better than ever. Get your head in the game (High School Musical reference) if your the team is left in the NBA playoffs cause we're telling you what we think players would do if they weren't still playing in the NBA - and we get creative.  Warning, this episode contains cringeworthy singing. 

We are back with none other than Matthew from Hops “Geek” News for another adventure.  We figured we needed to bring in some backup for help with all the playoffs that are currently on, from the NHL to the NBA. An iced coffee debate is formed in order to address Tim's outrageous iced coffee feelings, and the World's greatest jinx podcast that ever existed may have broken the record for the most predictions to go out of date less 24 hours after the recording. Oh, and we may or may not be a Philadelphia Eagles podcast now...

This week, The Unexpected duo brings you a next-day delivery episode, with a brief dive into the upcoming CFL season after the release of the new name for the Edmonton Football Team. Tim has a change of heart with his coffee relationship, and Katelyn of course makes fun of him for it. We chat about the sadness that is the Toronto Maple Leafs and their playoff success, and the future of the Winnipeg Jets. We recap a bit of the NBA and the future of the LA Lakers. 

The dynamic duo are back in action with an in depth Unexpected NBA playoffs breakdown! We've got an interesting take on why the Oilers probably lost, along with more of the legendary NHL play. Pretty much every debate goes back to the Toronto Blue Jays 6-0 sweep of the Atlanta Braves, Tim Horton appears again in an excessive way, and many many unexpected thoughts are present here. Katelyn also has a realization about the Green Bay Packers, which may or may not shake things up?

The original duo of the Unexpected is back! Although this time, slightly sick. Tim's feeling a little under the weather, but do not fear - Katelyn still makes sure to attack him as much as ever through the Unexpected Thoughts, where we chat about his very serious tissue issues . And of course we go over the weird, wacky, and wonderful from the past week, where we talk about people tanning naked, and the greatness that was the Toronto Blue Jays 6-0 sweep over the Atlanta Braves.

It's time! *Drum roll please* The greatest bracket of all time is here! After much debate on which NFL team Katelyn will support, the time has finally arrived for her to choose one . This is the biggest event in Unexpected history, and you will not want to miss it - the Carolina Panthers have already made a MAJOR move!  Of course, we also get into the classic greatness that is Tim Hortons (minus the roll up the rim sadly). We've got our Unexpected thoughts for the week, our lovely Tim embarrasses himself once or twice, Katelyn begins her DFS career AND we introduce our new found love for sound effects! 

Ready set roll! We continue with our classic of rolling the rims from the weeks Tim Hortons adventures,  when a terrible disaster occurs. Fortunately, Tim remembers to use the right mic this week, so that's a bonus! We realize that college basketball's greatest, Jalen Suggs and Paige Bueckers, have something in common. Of course, we're smack in the middle of the madness that is March Madness, so we give a rundown of the good, the bad, and the greatness that is UConn's star freshman Paige Bueckers - better known as Paige Buckets. This time on The Unexpected, Tim makes sure he mentions he had surgery once, twice, or ten times. He also makes sure we all know that that is his excuse for anything and everything. Shockingly, Katelyn's obsession with Tim Hortons and Roll up the Rim continues, what does she win this time? Relax, its not really anything good...still.
