Drew and Kaitlyn check the tread on your tires and oil level before taking off in this Blue Jays off-season primer vehicle. The podcasting pair bring attention to key dates this off-season; one such date being MLB Free Agency and the "quiet period", where the most recent team a free agent suited up for has exclusive negotiating rights with that player. Could Toronto ink Steven Matz before he hits the open market? Speaking of markets, what does Matz's look like? The duo's conversation keeps with starters, as Robbie Ray is a free agent, too. Will the AL Cy Young candidate stay in Toronto? Drew and Kaitlyn also kibbitz about other Jays who could be retained, including Corey Dickerson. To wrap, Spin Rate names its winners for MLB awards. Jason gives a eulogy for the 2021 season, including his takeaways, standouts, and why he's frustrated. Jason also talks about the sensational season Frankie Montas had--especially in the second half--and why he should finish in the top-three of AL Cy Young voting. He then finishes off the podcast talking about the teams still in the playoff mix and the whacky final weekend that *could* happen, including the road for the Mariners to win the AL West. For this episode I (Chris Grosso) have on Jon Heyman as we talk all things baseball. First we start with the Mets and the thumbs up thumbs down fiasco and we transition to the on-field performance of the team and the struggles of Lindor and the rest of the offense this season. Then we talk Yankees turnaround and Gerrit Cole's CY Young candidacy especially rebounding after the spider tack scandal. We talk Yankees chances as well in the wild-card game. We also talk Rays unlikely success year in and year out. The NL West race between the Dodgers and Giants. The unlikely success of the Giants. We talk awards and the candidates for NL, AL CY Young and MVP. We debate whether the MVP award should go to a player on a winning team. We also debate whether Shohei Ohtani should remain a two-way player and how good he'd be if he dedicated himself to hitting or pitching. We conclude by talking rule changes (7th inning DH's, runner on second to start extra innings) and whether he likes them or not.
Ferrall welcomes MLB columnist Scott Miller to break down the tight wild card races in both the AL and NL and discuss whether Gerrit Cole locked down the AL Cy Young with his 13 k performance against the Angels last night.
Thomas Carannante is on the pod solo again after Wednesday episode had to get postponed (we'll explain). On this one, the topics include the Yankees snapping their four-game losing streak with Gerrit Cole emerging as the clear favorite for the AL Cy Young, Corey Kluber's return, the mismanagement of Luke Voit, and whether or not we should be worrying about the Joey Gallo trade. Lots of stuff packed into one episode! Enjoy! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Yanks finally lose a series and even lost 4 straight games before Cole showed why he is the front runner for the AL Cy Young. He didn't allow a walk and K'd 15 over 7 innings to help avoid the sweep. Now the Yankees head home and need to take care of business vs the O's. New York's #2 Sports Podcast is an Influencer Audio production.
TSN MLB Analyst Steve Phillips joined OverDrive earlier today following the Jays win over Baltimore last night. In this week's Yankee Week edition of the Yankee Nation Podcast, Jose, Ryan, and Brian go over all the injury news, with Kluber set to make his return tonight and Torres working his way back. Finding out that the Yankees have a lot of middle-infield and pitching talent, figuring out who will be sent down to make space for players coming back will be very difficult. Judge and Cole have been stables throughout this whole season and have proved to be the backbone of this team. Cole should be in the race to win the AL CY Young, while Judge is putting up some career numbers.
Jeff Blair and Kevin Barker discuss the American League Wild Card race, how the Toronto Blue Jays fit in, who should be the offseason priority, and if there's any concerns with Hyun-jin Ryu. A weird weekend in DC caught up to the Dodgers on Monday. After winning 9 straight, the boys in blue finally lose a game to the lowly Marlins by a final of 5-4. While it's easy to point to the bad lineup Dave Roberts rolled out on Monday, or the rough bullpen choices, or the less-than-great defense the team has been playing of late, there's only one true answer as to why they lost. The Bob Nightengale curse. Friend of the show Bob tweeted something about the streak LA has been on since being no hit by the Cubs, and 9 hours later, they fell for the first time in July. Beyond the single game, the Dodgers have a bigger issue looming. With Trevor Bauer likely out of the rotation for the foreseeable future, there's another pitching issue on our doorstep. We discuss the internal options of prospects Josiah Gray and Ryan Pepiot, seeing where they're at. But we also wonder aloud why Dave Roberts is so reluctant to move 2021 AL Cy Young award winner David Price into the rotation. Next, we look at external options on the trade market and remind fans to exercise caution when looking at one-year wonders. After a quick giveaway plug, we dive into the flawed MLB All-Star voting process and slam baseball for the snubs of Walker Buehler and Kenley Jansen. Finally, we play with the new Chancer app and make some predictions for the upcoming final series of the first half against the D-backs at Dodger Stadium. Learn more about your ad choices. Joe Rizzo brings you baseball. Riz & Jeff "The Dawg" Healy did Quick Hits for this episode. They kicked if off with an unboxing, courtesy of our friends at StratOMatic.com. The Rizzo brothers, Producer Xavier and Webmaster Dominic, handled the opening of the box and the description of its contents while Riz and Dawg followed along with excitement to see the cards and dice from the best baseball board game ever. Check out the video on our YouTube or Facebook! The discussion moved to the aces for the respective New York teams, as Jacob deGrom and Gerrit Cole already look like they're in midseason form on March 16. There was a breakdown of what lies behind them in the respective rotations of the Mets and Yankees. Plus there was a look at the Nationals, with Max Scherzer and Stephen Strasburg. And then the conversation turned to the spring bomb Shohei Otani launched for the Angels, a 464-foot blast against AL Cy Young winner Shane Bieber. There was a dive into what the Angels could do with their two-way superstar to maximize his value, with Riz & Dawg going outside the box and disagreeing with what has been conventional wisdom. Dawg got things going with Veteran of the Day. It was 2nd Lt. Jocelyn Coutant, the first female infantry officer in the Connecticut Army National Guard. A former sergeant in an aviation unit, she decided to go to Officer Candidate School, then branched to Infantry Basic Officer Leader Course. She is now deploying with her unit, the 1-102 Infantry Battalion to the Horn of Africa to fight the War on Terror.
