In this mini-series, Mike documents from the minute he lost all feeling and sensation in his body and passed out to medical appointments placing him off work as a Member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and his challenges in getting back onto the road and doing what he loved to do, help others and be a productive member of his team. In Part 1, Mike discusses the lead up to the medical emergency in his home, to the amazing British Columbia Ambulance Service paramedics , the amazing medical staff at the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital and to his eventual discharge 6 days later. The focus of the series is to get an in-depth understanding of what it's like to be a first responder who can't respond and the physical and psychological challenges that they face when attempting to return to their calling.
