Shawn Johnson graduated from Winona State University in Winona, Minnesota, with a degree in Criminal Justice before earning his Juris Doctorate from William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota. He was immediately accepted into the FBI, trained at the FBI Academy, and assigned to the Seattle Division. There, he worked on the Green River Serial Murder investigation before joining the Violent Crimes Squad, where he investigated bank robberies, fugitives, interstate theft, extortions, and kidnappings. His legal background also led to service as Assistant Chief Division Counsel. Johnson later joined the National Security Squad, working counterterrorism and counterintelligence operations, including joint overseas investigations with the United States Army and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Returning to the Violent Crimes Squad, he played a key role in the Hollywood investigation, helped establish the Puget Sound Violent Crime Task Force, served as Bank Robbery Coordinator, and authored the Division's Bank Robbery Response Plan. After transferring to the Milwaukee Division's Madison Resident Agency, he focused on drug conspiracy investigations, employing sophisticated surveillance techniques that contributed to major takedowns of drug organizations in Chicago and Madison. Following 9/11, he managed the newly established Madison Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF), overseeing federal and local efforts to investigate international terrorism. Johnson later returned to the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia, where he instructed new agents in criminal investigations, counterterrorism investigations, and Human Intelligence (HUMINT). His final FBI assignment was with the Directorate of Intelligence, training agents in HUMINT policy and procedures. Upon retiring from the FBI, he founded Wolf & Owl LLC, where he continues to train FBI personnel in support of the Bureau's mission to protect the United States. Steven Meyers was the partner and principal accomplice of Scott Scurlock, better known as "Hollywood," the notorious bank robber responsible for a string of high-profile bank heists in the Seattle area during the 1990s. Over the course of four and a half years, Meyers worked closely with Scurlock and their crew in planning and executing 19 bank robberies that resulted in the theft of more than $2.3 million. Beyond participating in the operation, Meyers helped develop the plans, create disguises, and support the methods that allowed the crew to evade law enforcement for years. Meyers and Scurlock were deeply involved in every aspect of the enterprise, including planning operations, laundering money, and acquiring vehicles and equipment. As Scurlock's closest collaborator, Meyers gained a unique understanding of the man behind the "Hollywood" persona and the motivations that drove one of the Pacific Northwest's most infamous crime sprees. In 2023, Meyers was featured in the Netflix documentary *How to Rob a Bank*, providing firsthand insight into the robberies and the inner workings of the crew. Today, he joins retired FBI Special Agent Shawn Johnson—the lead investigator who helped solve the case—to share the untold stories behind the Hollywood robberies and offer perspectives from both sides of one of the most remarkable bank robbery investigations in modern history.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

On this day, 22 May 1992 the Royal Oak Mines company locked out members of the Canadian Association of Smelter and Allied Workers (CASAW) union at its Giant Mine in Yellowknife, Canada. CASAW members had been due to go on strike the following day after rejecting a contract which would tie their pay to fluctuations in the price of gold.Management swiftly escalated tensions by hiring scab replacement workers, which had not been done in a mining dispute in Canada in over 50 years. The company brought scabs in from across Canada, sometimes using helicopters to bring them across picket lines. The company also hired Pinkerton private detectives and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police to intimidate strikers.Strikers fought back by throwing rocks at mine buildings, and on one occasion raiding the premises and breaking windows, for which Royal Oak sacked 38 strikers. As time dragged on, a handful of CASAW members began to cross picket lines and return to work themselves. On September 18, a bomb exploded in the mine next to a rail line, killing nine scabs. After a 13 month criminal investigation, it transpired that the bomb was planted by a striking CASAW member, Roger Warren, who confessed to the crime but stated his intention was to scare the scabs and embarrass the company. The Canada Labor Relations Board then ordered an end to the strike and lockout in November 1993, and CASAW members voted overwhelmingly to accept a contract very similar to the one they had previously rejected. 130 of the strikers then returned to work at the mine.Warren was later imprisoned, until being granted April in 2014. Two other strikers were imprisoned for other acts of sabotage at the mine for sentences of 2 1/2 and three years respectively.More information, sources and map: https://stories.workingclasshistory.com/article/7869/giant-mine-lockoutOur work is only possible because of support from you, our listeners on patreon. This week I'm talking about the Shag Harbour UFO Incident On the night of October 4, 1967, the quiet fishing village of Shag Harbour, Nova Scotia, became the centre of one of Canada's most compelling UFO cases. Multiple witnesses saw a set of bright lights moving low across the sky before appearing to descend and strike the water offshore. Believing they had witnessed an aircraft crash, local resident Laurie Wickens contacted the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. What followed makes the Shag Harbour incident stand apart from many UFO reports. RCMP officers responded, local fishermen took boats out to search for survivors, and the Rescue Coordination Centre in Halifax checked for missing aircraft. No commercial, private or military plane could be connected to the event. There was no wreckage, no bodies, no debris field and no ordinary crash site. The case soon drew in Canadian military authorities. The Royal Canadian Air Force became involved through official reporting channels, and Navy divers from Fleet Diving Unit Atlantic searched the seabed near the reported impact area. Despite the seriousness of the response, no conventional explanation was found. In this episode, I revisit the events of that October night: the witnesses who saw the lights, the police response, the search on the water, and the military investigation that followed. I also look at why Shag Harbour has endured as one of the strongest UFO cases in Canadian history. Unlike many sightings, this one began as an emergency call, involved official agencies from the start, and left behind a record of unanswered questions. More than half a century later, the mystery remains. What entered the waters off Shag Harbour that night? Why was no aircraft ever found? And why does this quiet Nova Scotian harbour still hold such an important place in the history of unidentified aerial phenomena? https://www.pastliveshypnosis.co.uk/ https://www.patreon.com/alienufopodcast https://simonbown.com/ My new book, Aspects of Alien Abduction https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0GRRPCT9Y Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. This is the full show for February 12, 2026. 0:30 An AI safety researcher resigns from Anthropic, warning the world is “in peril”—but is the threat real or just more AI panic? We cut through the hype around artificial intelligence, copyright fears, job losses, and ethical alarms, questioning sloppy AI reporting that lumps Roombas, video games, and self-driving cars into the same doom narrative. From bold claims by Elon Musk to deeper questions about human dignity, accountability, and wisdom in the age of ChatGPT, this conversation asks the hard question: is AI the danger—or is it how we choose to use it? 9:30 Plus, we cover the Top 3 Things You Need to Know. The House voted to end President Trump's tariffs on Canada. The new Democrat governor of New Jersey is banning ICE from as much of the state as she can. The state of Florida will now require all drivers exams to be conducted in English only. 12:30 Get Performlyte from Victory Nutrition International for 20% off. We break down why Cardi B’s remarks aren’t protected speech, how celebrity shock tactics fuel “outrage economics,” and why reckless rhetoric with a megaphone can quickly turn into felony territory. 16:30 Valentine’s Day hits different when the kids are grown. The American Mamas — Terry Netterville and Kimberly Burleson — get real about how romance, expectations, and love languages change over time. From ditching chocolates and flowers to finding joy in taken-out trash, phone-down conversations, pizza nights, and Netflix, this candid, funny conversation reframes Valentine’s Day for empty nesters. We also dive into why the holiday feels more natural for daters and kids, how modern couples plan experiences on the fly, and why love now is less about grand gestures and more about making life “move easy.” 22:00 Even if you can’t stand Donald Trump, here’s one move that hits home for everyday drivers. We break down how President Trump scrapped the Obama-era auto regulations that forced vehicles to shut off at stoplights — the hated start-stop engine feature many say damages engines and drives up car costs. The conversation takes aim at the green mandates rolled out under Barack Obama, argues they hurt American automakers, and explains why rolling them back could save drivers thousands per vehicle. Love him or hate him, this is one regulation repeal that might finally let your car idle in peace. 25:00 A deadly school shooting in British Columbia ignites a blunt, controversial conversation about media language, gender ideology, and mental health. After Canadian authorities — including the Royal Canadian Mounted Police — described the suspect based on self-identification rather than biology, we question what’s being obscured and why. We challenge claims that mass shootings are purely about guns, examine a series of recent high-profile attacks involving gender-dysphoric shooters, and argue society is misdiagnosing a mental health crisis as a political or cultural one. 32:00 Get Prodovite Plus from Victory Nutrition International for 20% off. Go to vni.life/agr and use the promo code AGR20. 32:30 The federal government is sitting on 24 million square feet of underused office space—empty buildings that cost taxpayers billions in maintenance. We break down how bureaucratic waste keeps these properties off the market, despite proposals like Senator Joni Ernst’s new legislation to expedite sales. From peeling paint to costly mechanical systems, we discuss why letting these buildings languish is a drain on families, and why putting them back into commerce could save taxpayers billions. 35:00 We break down the EPA’s reversal of Obama-era carbon regulations— one of the most significant moves for American consumers in decades. From eliminating the hated automatic start-stop feature to rolling back greenhouse gas mandates on vehicles from 2012–2027, the change promises to save taxpayers over $1.3 trillion, restore consumer choice, and lower vehicle costs. We explore how decades of EPA overreach, fueled by the 2009 “endangerment finding,” drove up car prices, reshaped the auto industry, and sparked debates over government power versus economic freedom. 39:30 We tackle the controversy surrounding Eileen Ju, an American-born athlete who chose to compete for China in the Olympics. We question the idea of “global citizenship” in a competition that is, at its core, nation versus nation, and explore why representing another country after benefiting from the American system sparks outrage. Articles Sherrill signs order restricting ICE cooperation Florida Becomes Only the Fourth State to Offer English-Only Driver’s License Exams The media need to stop gaslighting us about the reality of trans mass shooters Trump's EPA revokes finding on greenhouse gas threat that underpinned US fight against climate change President Trump and Administrator Zeldin Deliver Single Largest Deregulatory Action in U.S. History Trump Announces ‘Largest Deregulatory Action In American History’ Follow us: americangroundradio.com Facebook: facebook.com / AmericanGroundRadio Instagram: instagram.com/americangroundradioSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The case, which has attracted international attention, took a dramatic turn earlier Tuesday when the Federal Bureau of Investigation released photo and video images of the possible suspect outside Guthrie’s home near Tucson. A video posted on X shows a masked individual wearing gloves approaching the front door with what appears to be a handgun in a holster and carrying a large backpack. Meantime, the AP reports the FBI and Pima County Sheriff's Department were conducting a court-authorized search at a location in Rio Rico, Arizona, in connection with the investigation.2) At least 10 people are dead and 25 injured after a mass shooting in northeastern British Columbia, according to the police. After a report of an active shooter at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School at 1:20 p.m. local time, responders found six people dead in the school, as well as the suspected perpetrator, who appears to have died from a self-inflicted injury, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police said in a statement. Three victims were airlifted to hospital with serious injuries, but one died in transit. Police said they also identified a residence that they believed to be connected to the incident, where they found another two people dead. Investigators are now searching additional properties to determine the scope of the tragic event, which appears to rank as one of the deadliest mass shootings in Canadian history.3) House lawmakers are set to vote Wednesday on whether to reject some of President Trump’s tariff policies, ahead of a midterm election focused heavily on anxiety over the US cost of living. The votes on the measures — starting with a resolution opposing the president’s tariffs on Canada — are set to come after lawmakers on Tuesday night rejected a last-ditch effort from House Speaker Mike Johnson to prevent them. Johnson, one of Trump’s chief allies in Congress, has led a legislative blockade for months to insulate the tariffs, pushing procedural rules that effectively prevented his chamber from ending the president’s sweeping tariff authority. A fresh Johnson-backed measure would have extended that ban through the end of July.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

A chance conversation set Jennifer Hyland on a path she never planned: from late‑20s recruit to deputy chief overseeing major crime, patrol, and the kind of cases that haunt even seasoned investigators. What she learned along the way isn't the hero myth. It's a set of grounded habits—judgment, restraint, and relentless investigation—that actually keep people safe and put predators behind bars.We start with the early years: the culture shock of patrol, the pressure to “prove” yourself, and the moment she stopped performing and started policing as herself. Jennifer explains why rookie placement matters more than tradition, how the RCMP's one‑size‑fits‑all training falls short across remote and urban posts, and why the real superpower in policing is casework that survives court, not muscle that wins a moment. She walks us through the split‑second call to disengage when instincts say a stop is about to turn, and we compare the very different risk signals created by Canada–U.S. gun laws. Then we go deep on leadership. Jennifer was pushed into promotion by a tyrannical boss and built her command style in reaction to that harm: show up in briefing, credit frontline work, bridge patrol and detectives, and use bodycam video for learning, not just blame. Her most gripping account centers on Canada's most infamous serial killer, Robert Pickton. As a patrol officer, she stopped him on the street while he hunted sex trade workers. Years later, her notes helped anchor testimony that tied the stop to a night of horrific violence. The takeaway is sobering: you don't “win” cases with force—you win them with trust, documentation, and patience. Finally, Jennifer shares why she wrote Tight Rope. A colleague once told her she seemed “perfect,” and that illusion kept others from stepping up or seeking help. So she broke the spell, writing about the quiet forms of PTSD, the loneliness of command, and the heartbreak of handing in a badge even when the job has taken its pound of flesh. In this episode of “Financial Crime Matters,” Kieran talks live from the ACAMS Assembly Canada with Inspector Nick Souccar, who is Officer in Charge of Federal Policing Criminal Operations, Serious and Organized Crime, and the Canadian Integrated Response to Organized Crime for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Nick and Kieran discuss law enforcement's efforts to secure Canada's borders against the importation of ‘traditional' plant-based drugs like cocaine and the flood of precursor chemicals for producing fentanyl in makeshift labs throughout the country. With 21 fentanyl-related deaths in Canada per day, efforts to fight drug trafficking and manufacturing throughout has required a massive effort, recently energized by Prime Minister Mark Carney's office of Canada's Fentanyl Czar Kevin Brosseau and the creation of the Joint Operational Intelligence Cell. In combating dangerous illicit drugs, Nick details some of the ways drug traffickers launder money and the kinds of invaluable information the financial community can provide to law enforcement. With criminal organizations regularly creating new dangerous synthetic drugs, many of them not opioids whose overdoses can be countered by Naloxone, Nick points out the need for information sharing via public and private partnerships.

Real Fear, Real Change: Why It's Time to Embrace AI, Respect Wildlife, and Cheer on Women in Rodeo Don't Fear the Future: How to Start Using AI in Everyday Life Without Feeling Overwhelmed Curious about AI but a little nervous to try it? Learn how to start using AI fear-free with beginner-friendly tools, simple tasks like meal planning, and trusted platforms to get you started. Artificial Intelligence (AI) isn't just for tech experts, coders, or Silicon Valley. In fact, AI is already helping everyday people solve everyday problems—and you can start using it right now, even if you're a complete beginner. If you've been feeling hesitant or even afraid of AI, you're not alone. But the truth is, learning how to use AI doesn't have to be intimidating. With the right mindset and a few simple tools, you can start making your life easier today. Why Are People Afraid of AI? Many people fear AI because of myths and misunderstandings—like the idea that it's going to take over jobs or turn into science fiction-level robots. In reality, AI is more like a helpful assistant. Think of it as a calculator for your brain—only smarter, faster, and more versatile. The key is learning how to work with AI, not against it. Beginner-Friendly AI Use: Meal Planning & Fridge Rescue Let's start with something simple and familiar: food. AI can take the stress out of cooking and shopping with easy tools that help you: 1. Plan Your Weekly Meals Instead of scrolling endlessly for recipe ideas, you can ask AI to: Create a weekly dinner plan based on your dietary needs (gluten-free, keto, vegetarian, etc.) Generate a shopping list based on your meal plan Suggest quick recipes for busy nights Try This Prompt: "Can you create a 5-day dinner meal plan for two adults, under $75, that includes leftovers for lunch?" 2. Use What's in the Fridge Don't throw away food just because you don't know what to do with it. AI can suggest creative, safe, and delicious ways to use ingredients before they expire. Try This Prompt: "I have eggs, wilting spinach, a half-used onion, and some shredded cheese. What can I cook tonight?" You'll be surprised how helpful and creative AI can be! Tips & Tricks to Start Using AI Fear-Free Here's how to dip your toes into the AI pool without diving headfirst: 1. Start With Low-Risk, Everyday Tasks AI is great for: Making grocery lists Writing polite emails Summarizing long articles Brainstorming gift ideas Budget planning The more you use it for small tasks, the more confident you'll feel. 2. Use Clear, Friendly Prompts Don't overthink it—talk to AI like a helpful assistant or a friend. Instead of: "Build me a machine learning model to predict market trends" Try: "Can you explain what inflation is in simple terms?" Safe AI Tools & Websites for Beginners Tool What It Does Why It's Good for Beginners ChatGPT (OpenAI) Answers questions, helps plan, write, learn Very conversational and user-friendly Google Gemini  Similar to ChatGPT, connected to live web Great for real-time info   Pro Tip: Always double-check anything AI gives you—especially when it comes to food safety, finances, or health. Think of AI like a smartphone app: it's here to make your life easier, not harder. Starting small—with simple things like meal planning or organizing your week—can build your confidence and save you time. You don't need to become an AI expert overnight. You just need curiosity, a willingness to try, and a safe place to start.   Tragedy in the Ozarks: Bear Attack Confirmed Authorities have confirmed that a black bear was responsible for the tragic death of a camper in Newton County, Arkansas. 60-year-old Max Thomas of Springfield, Missouri, was camping alone at Sam's Throne Campground in the Ozark National Forest late last week. Thomas had been sleeping on an open-air cot—completely exposed—when he was attacked overnight. Family members grew concerned after not hearing from him for several days. Before communication stopped, Thomas had sent them a photo of a black bear lurking near his campsite. The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission initially suspected a bear due to the nature of his injuries and signs at the scene. Now, it's confirmed. Using Thomas's photo and trail cameras set up after the incident, officials tracked down and euthanized the bear believed to be responsible. It's a rare and tragic reminder of the risks of camping in bear country—especially without proper protection. This marks the 2nd Missouri fatal bear attack in a month after 25 years without any. Wilderness According to Outdoor Life, an elk hunter in southeastern British Columbia is lucky to be alive after a serious encounter with a grizzly bear near Fort Steele last Thursday. Authorities say the man, whose name hasn't been released, was critically injured after a sow grizzly—believed to be protecting her cubs—attacked him. The hunter had been using elk calls, which officials believe may have unintentionally drawn the bear family to his location. The man reportedly got off one shot during the attack, but it's unclear if the bear was hit. Due to the severity of his injuries, officials haven't been able to speak with him yet. He was airlifted to Kelowna General Hospital, where he is now listed in stable condition. Conservation officers used thermal drones and helicopters to search the area but found no sign of the bear afterward. The investigation is ongoing, with help from predator attack specialists and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. The town of Fort Steele lies approximately 60 miles north of the Canadian border, and not far from the town of Whitefish and nearby Glacier National Park in northwest Montana. Officials say elk season is currently in full swing in the region—reminding hunters and outdoor enthusiasts to stay alert in grizzly country. Riders like Tup Forge, who flew in from Australia and won gold at Cheyenne Frontier Days on just three hours of sleep, are proving that this sport isn't just for the boys. It's been less than a decade since women were welcomed back into rough stock competitions after nearly 90 years of exclusion, originally sparked by a tragic accident in 1929. But these modern cowgirls aren't just here for show — they're serious athletes competing in one of the most dangerous events out there. They ride what they rope in — using ranch saddles instead of the typical rodeo gear — and often spend more than they win. Yet despite the bruises and empty pockets, they keep showing up. Why? Because they love it. So next time you see a woman riding high on a bucking bronc, remember: she's not just breaking barriers — she's making history. It's been just such an honor to journey with her and support her through the book-birthing experience – and in this podcast episode, she shares a bit about what her experience going through the program was like.Olive also shares:When she knew there was a book inside of her that she was meant to write. How the process of writing can be a gift to others. Why she decided to sign up for Thriving Authors Academy and her biggest takeaways from being part of it.The most intimidating part of birthing her memoir and what gave her the confidence to go forward.About Olive: Olive Mazerolle grew up in a small fishing village called Baie Sainte-Anne on the most easterly point of New Brunswick. As a civilian employee, Olive gave thirty-five years of her life to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. At the end of her career, after experiencing both personal and professional traumas, she found herself diagnosed with moderate-to-severe PTSD. Through years of seeking the psychological help she needed, she finally understood that her traumas had led her to Post Traumatic Growth (PTG). For Olive, PTG was transformative and brought the realization that she had actually grown after adversity. She turned towards altruism, opened up to new experiences, became spiritually mature and embraced gratitude for the life she now lives, saying, “Without these challenges, I may not be the person I am proud to be today.” Her only hope for this, her first book, is that it can help others. >> The doors are OPEN for the next round of Thriving Authors Academy! RV LIFESTYLE NEWS OF THE WEEK Grand Canyon's Megafire Now Largest of 2025 & So Intense, It Creates Its Own Weather The fire still burning through the north rim of the Grand Canyon is now officially the largest wildfire of 2025, a megafire, so hot it is creating its own weather patterns. The fire, which has created "fire clouds," has torched more than 116,500 acres as of Sunday and is about 12 percent contained, according to InciWeb. The north rim is closed for the remainder of the 2025 season, and the fire is still out of control and growing in size. Distressed Camper Nope—Just a Lone Guy Belting Out Nickelback Rescue teams rushed to help what they thought was a camper in distress in British Columbia, but it turns out those screams were from a guy rocking out to Nickelback in the middle of the woods. The man was solo camping in the Boulderfields, singing his heart out, when two nearby hikers called 911 after hearing what they described as “repeated cries." Members of a Search and Rescue crew were practicing nearby, so they brought in the drone team and enlisted two Royal Canadian Mounted Police officers only to find the solo camper singing away, blissfully unaware. Birthday Camping Trip Ends in Deadly Explosion at Maine Campground Two friends celebrating a birthday by camping together at the Power Horn Family Camping Resort in Old Orchard Beach, Maine, were tragically killed after their camper exploded from a suspected propane leak. The women, ages 57 and 58, smelled a rotten, garlic-like odor in the camper so they opened the windows and lit a candle to mask the smell. But fire officials believe the bad odor was likely caused by a liquid propane leak which ignited when the candle was lit.  Father And Daughter Camping Trip Ends with Horrific Violent Attack and Father in Intensive Care A 58-year-old Georgia father remains in intensive care after suffering severe injuries during a brutal attack while camping with his 20-year-old daughter. The assault occurred at Low Gap Campground in northern Georgia. The dad was cut from the ear to the back of the neck with glass and suffered a severe brain bleed. Four strangers allegedly attacked him and his daughter from behind as they sat at their campsite. Three men and one woman were arrested and charged with aggravated assault and battery in what's an on-going police investigation. There's no word yet on the motive, and police say more people may be arrested. Micro-Burst Winds Flip RVs with Families Inside During Texas Storm Texas and campgrounds have surely had their share of severe weather this summer. The latest was last Thursday when strong winds toppled many RVs at a Gunter, Texas, RV park during a severe thunderstorm. The storm produced "micro-bursts" of strong winds, and at least six RVs rolled over, some with their owners inside. There were some injuries, but no fatalities. Yellowstone Nightmare: 17-Year-Old Severely Burned by Geyser in Thermal Area A teenager visiting Yellowstone National Park with his family was seriously burned from a geyser when his foot broke through a thermal area about five miles from Old Faithful. The 17-year-old was hiking near the Lone Star Geyser when he br...

Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 20-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world. Legal and settlements reporter Jeremy Sharon and Knesset reporter Ariela Karmel join host Amanda Borschel-Dan for today's episode. We begin the program with an update on the ongoing saga of the attempts to fire Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara. On Sunday morning, the five-member ministerial committee recently set up to dismiss the attorney general voted unanimously to recommend that the government to dismiss her. We hear what are the potential next steps toward firing her -- and probable backlash. Yesterday at the Knesset conference called “The Gaza Riviera – from vision to reality,” Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich endorsed a “security annexation” of the northern Gaza Strip and claimed that Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir favors the idea. Dozens of right-wing politicians and activists claim they are set to "right a historic wrong" that occurred 20 years ago with the 2005 Disengagement. Karmel sets the scene. Israeli authorities have said they are taking control of the management of the Tomb of the Patriarchs holy site in Hebron, in order to carry out construction work at the flashpoint West Bank shrine. Sharon explains how there is precedent for this temporary control and delves into why the move is so controversial this time. And finally, in June, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police announced that it had opened an investigation into “matters related to the Israel-Hamas armed conflict,” with the possibility of uncovering “a perpetrator of core international crimes — such as genocide, war crimes, or crimes against humanity.” This announcement sparked concern among dual Israel-Canadian citizen soldiers. Karmel wrote an in-depth piece on the topic and shares the soldiers' fears. Check out The Times of Israel's ongoing liveblog for more updates. An audio recording from a phone call Amber made while she was in the car with the suspect was released, but the man could not be identified. Amber's family is sure that the fact that she was an Indigenous Canadian woman was a part of why the RCMP mishandled the investigation into her case. Amber's case remains unsolved to this day.
