Shoot us a Text.Today we're talking about the legendary stunts of the Detroit Auto Show, the stabilization of used car prices after pandemic volatility, and Starbucks shutting down stores for a barista reboot under its new CEO.The Detroit Auto Show has long been a stage for iconic moments, from smashing Jeeps through glass to launching entire luxury brands. Once the epicenter of automotive innovation, the event has struggled in recent years to maintain relevance amid rising costs, digital marketing trends, and competing global expos.During the '90s and early 2000s, the show was the must-attend event for automakers and media, with 4,000 journalists. Some theatrical reveals included Bob Lutz driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee through a plate glass window in 1992, a Dodge Ram crashing through cardboard in 1993, Kermit the Frog driving a minivan in 1995, and a cattle drive introducing the 2009 Dodge Ram.Automakers invested millions in jaw-dropping spectacles, like Cirque du Soleil performances and celebrity appearances, making it a race to outdo each other every year. The rise of CES and specialty expos, coupled with automakers shifting to digital-first marketing strategies, diluted the Detroit show's dominance. The Detroit Auto Show has since returned to its January roots, focusing on engaging consumers rather than relying on the media spectacle it once was."The world has changed. That is reflected in the auto show," said David Cole, chairman emeritus of the Center for Automotive Research. This year's show will be January 10 to January 20, 2025, at Huntington Place in DetroitUsed vehicle prices are expected to stabilize further in 2025, bringing relief to buyers after years of pandemic-induced volatility. While still higher than pre-pandemic levels, prices are trending toward normalization.Cox Automotive predicts wholesale prices will end 2025 up 1.4% compared to December 2024.Prices surged 46.6% in 2021 and 14.2% in 2020 but dropped sharply in 2022 and 2023.Retail prices remain slow to decline, with December's average listing at $25,565, down 3% year over year.Used vehicle sales are forecast to rise 1% in 2025, with 20.1 million retail sales.Starbucks is hosting a mandatory three-hour training session later this month as part of CEO Brian Niccol's effort to revitalize the brand. Niccol's said in a session description,“We will refocus on what has always set Starbucks apart — a welcoming coffeehouse,” The training, titled "Welcome Back to Starbucks," will run from January 21-26, with employees attending at staggered times.Stores may close dining rooms but keep drive-thrus open to accommodate the sessions.Niccol, known for his turnaround at Chipotle, has already introduced changes like faster drink prep and self-service condiment bars.Employees hope for additional workflow adjustments to streamline operations and better balance quick Hosts: Paul J Daly and Kyle MountsierGet the Daily Push Back email at https://www.asotu.com/ JOIN the conversation on LinkedIn at: https://www.linkedin.com/company/asotu/ Read our most recent email at: https://www.asotu.com/media/push-back-email

Austen Alexander, a US Navy veteran and fitness enthusiast, shares his journey from joining the Navy to becoming a content creator. He discovered his love for fitness at 19 and used it as a way to build discipline and transform his body. After dropping out of college, he joined the Navy and went through intense training to become a diver. However, he didn't pass the swim qualification and ended up in the Naval Security program. He was stationed in Bahrain and later moved to California, where he deployed on the Carl Vinson and worked in the Harbor patrol. During his time in the Navy, he started making videos to document his training and share his experiences. Austen's interest in video production started in high school, where he produced class videos and a show called Current Events. He continued making videos while in the Navy and started posting them on YouTube. His channel gained traction when a video went viral, earning him significant income. Austen decided to take YouTube full-time and built his own obstacle course called Battle Bunker. He faced challenges and financial struggles but persevered. He later expanded Battle Bunker to the Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center. The Battle Bunker bus, a 1986 Dodge Ram, became a popular symbol of his brand. Austen discusses the rise of short-form videos and the development of the Battle Bunker brand. He shares how he started creating short vertical videos on TikTok and Facebook Reels, and the success he found through consistent posting. Austen talks about the importance of having a team and the creative process behind his YouTube channel and the Battle Bunker Bus. Sometimes, the lessons we learn the hard way stick with us the longest. This is especially true when it comes to financial decisions. In today's episode, Lee shares a personal story that serves as a stark reminder of how being cheap can end up being very expensive. In this conversation, Lee recounts how his reluctance to invest in a security system for his new Dodge Ram 1500 TRX led to an expensive loss when the vehicle was stolen. Unfortunately, this led to weeks of stress and logistical nightmares like changing the locks to his house and dealing with insurance. Listen in as Lee talks about the financial and emotional implications of being penny-wise and pound foolish, and discusses the importance of seeing value in investments, whether it's for vehicle security or financial advisory services. Here's what we discuss in today's show: The story of Lee's truck being stolen at the Atlanta airport Dealing with the aftermath of theft, including insurance claims, changing locks, and replacing stolen items How investing in quality advice and protection can save money and trouble in the long run Want to set up a meeting with us? Here is a video clip from @EnjoyLakeForest of concerned citizens speaking out at the Lake Forest Illinois City Council meeting regarding the home invasion when 3 suspects forced their way into elderly woman's home in Lake Forest here is the link to story https://www.lakemchenryscanner.com/2024/05/04/police-investigating-home-invasion-after-3-suspects-force-way-into-elderly-womans-home-in-lake-forest/ Police are seeking three suspects who forced their way into an elderly woman's home and held her in place before ransacking her house in Lake Forest. The incident happened sometime between 7-8 p.m. last Saturday in the 1000 block of West Deerpath Road in Lake Forest. The victim reported three male subjects dressed in black forced their way into the residence and stole multiple pieces of jewelry. Lake Forest Deputy Police Chief Kevin Zelk said the homeowner was present at the time of the incident. They heard heavy knocking at the door before it was forced open. The three suspects entered the residence and two immediately went upstairs, Zelk said. The third told the homeowner their house was on fire and grabbed them by the shoulders, holding the victim in place during the incident. “It was originally reported that the offender held the homeowner down to the ground; however, that wasn't the case,” Zelk said. The offenders have not been identified yet. The homeowner was uninjured. The homeowner was reported to be an elderly female. Zelk would not confirm the victim's age or gender. The suspects arrived and fled in a black pickup truck, possibly a Dodge Ram. An American Girl: Based on a True Story by S. Naomi MainSharon Sholl is an ordinary girl growing up in America. She meets an ordinary young man, Mark Main, two weeks before her sixteenth birthday, who blows to pieces her little world, she says of him. An American Girl is a relational journey, which, no matter how you look at it, is a love story. Sharon's love story is about her extraordinary life with Mark whom she met in 1968, four weeks before he was to leave for Vietnam. From the moment she was born, she also traveled a relational journey with the God of the universe, the Creator God. She didn't pursue that relationship seriously until in her early forties, she and Mark came to a point in their marriage when it seemed as though they had hit rock bottom.Sharon presents the beautiful, the distressing, and the unattractive of her journey of nearly seventy years. Perhaps as you read about this ordinary American girl, you will identify with some of the challenges but mostly with the joys one encounters in this life on earth, joys that are available to all.Sharon Naomi Main lives with their black cat, Ned Pike, in the home she and Mark moved into in February 1979. As of this writing, she is trying to adopt another cocker spaniel to fill the hole in her heart left by Pansy in December 2021. Sharon is retired. God has placed her exactly where He wants her today. Remembrances of her sweetheart are all over their home. She still drives Mark's 2012 Dodge Ram pickup, sitting where he sat. Her life is not the same, but it is maderich by all those who loved the Mains and now love Sharon alone, especially their son Mark and his family. Does S. Naomi Main have another book in her future? Perhaps. Only God knows the answer to that at this moment.https://www.amazon.com/ American-Girl-Based-true- story/dp/B0CSQHB4L4/ref=sr_1_ 1?crid=3K3Z653VJH101&keywords= an+american+girl+s.+naomi+ main&qid=1707154002&sprefix=% 2Caps%2C297&sr=8-1www.SharonNMain.com www.KingPagesPress.comhttp://www. bluefunkbroadcasting.com/root/ twia/22924kpp1.mp3

Buckle up! We are heading down to the fields of Clemson, South Carolina! I got an email from 3 Booker Rumble D. back in February which said “Neil, I have a guest suggestion for you. J Drew Lanham is a 2022 MacArthur fellow and an American ornithologist. I loved his book and would love to hear you interview him (maybe while you guys go birding?)” Intrigued, I looked him up and discovered I … sort of already knew him? I had read and loved his wonderfully thoughtful and nuanced essay last year called "What Do We Do About John James Audubon?" and his viral YouTube clip called "Rules for the Black Birdwatcher". (“You're gonna need at least two pieces of ID. And never wear a hoodie. Ever.”) So I bought Drew's memoir 'The Home Place' and found it completely entrancing. His writing is poetry — vivid, transportive, meditative. After that I reached out to Drew and we set a time to make the 10-hour haul down to Clemson farm country, wake up at the crack of dawn, and then get picked up by Drew in his Dodge Ram to spend a morning together — birdwatching. J. Drew Lanham is a naturalist, birdwatcher, hunter-conservationist, MacArthur 'Genius' Grant-winning distinguished professor. He is a meditative, philosophical, nature- and wild-loving soul who has deeply considered our long relationship with the natural world and is never afraid to confront harsh truths. “European Starlings are a dark-plumaged being brought over the Atlantic for the services of others,” Drew says at one point. “Hmmm, where have I heard that before?” You'll be riding in the middle seat of the truck, getting out with us between fence posts and grassy meadows, hearing Blue Grosbeaks, Eastern Meadowlarks, and Red-Shouldered Hawks, and listening to Drew's endlessly wise observations about everything from South Carolina's slavery past, why there's blood in tofu, what your birdwatching ‘starter kit' should look like, how to observe a land ethic, how we might behave differently if Chicken Nuggets blinked at us, formative books (of course!), and much, much more. “You can't see everything at once,” Drew reminds us. “So learn to see the everything in one.” With birds serving as a metaphor for everything in life I think you'll love this slow, soul-fueling, wisdom-stuffed conversation with Professor J. Drew Lanham. I left his truck that morning thinking “I want to be more like Drew.” I think you'll feel the same way. True Crime Podcast 2024 - REAL Police Interrogations, 911 Calls, True Police Stories and True Crime
Arkansas Police Impersonator's Arrest Recorded By His Own Body Camera CREEPY On February 8, 2019 at 1:56 pm while traveling on South Pine Street in Cabot, Arkansas, Detective David Dillon of the Lonoke County Sheriff's Office observed a black Dodge Ram activate green, red, and yellow emergency lights. The vehicle then began driving in the center turn lane at "approximate speeds of 90 miles per hour," passing several cars recklessly. On the rear window of the truck was a sticker reading "Caution: Working K9,” and the front of the truck was equipped with a push bumper. Detective Dillon initiated a traffic stop, was joined by some of his colleagues, and this is what happened — as captured on the body worn camera of Jeremy Kurck. “There were visor lights that were red and green in color. There were also several antennas on top of the vehicle. I made contact with the driver who was identified as Mr. Jeremy Kurck. I observed a badge around his neck as well as a body worn camera. I asked Mr. Kurck to turn on the lights to see if there were any blue lights attached to his truck. Mr. Kurck turned on the lights and I observed a dash camera and a mounted radar that is identical to the ones we use in our emergency vehicles.” “During a vehicle tow inventory of the truck there were also several other items inside that resembled law enforcement equipment as well. Those items were several pairs on hand cuffs, expandable baton and holder, a taser with the warning label that says may cause death or serious physical injury, a seat organizer like we use, a flashlight, pepper spray, bear spray, a radio that had our dispatch channel programmed inside it, and a portable breath test for determining blood alcohol content.” “Mr. Kurck was dressed in tan tactical pants and black polo which is extremely similar to the uniform that we wear at the Sheriff's Office. Mr. Kurck stated that he is a civil process server and was headed to the high school to serve a civil paper. Mr. Kurck stated he works for himself but this was his first paper to serve. Mr. Kurck was convicted of aggravated assault in 2008 and isn't allowed to serve civil process papers in the State of Arkansas. Mr. Kurck stated that he worked for ADEM. After checking with ADEM it was learned that Mr. Kurck was only an amateur radio operator for them. ADEM requested that we seize the radio and his ADEM identification card.” “The vehicle was towed to the Lonoke County Sheriff's Office for further investigation and Mr. Kurck was transported to the Lonoke County Detention. Since Mr. Kurck's arrest, the Lonoke County Sheriff's Office has received information from some Central Arkansas Law Enforcement Agencies and citizens that this individual has been making contact with the public as a law enforcement officer.” After publicizing Kurck's arrest, the Lonoke County Sheriff's Office asked the public to let them know if they had encountered Kurck impersonating a police officer. In response, the Sheriff's Office received numerous emails from members of the public and members of law enforcement regarding their encounters with Not-Officer Kurck. There's even a letter from the DEA!
The plaintiff says the defendant is his ex-girlfriend. He alleges she went into his bank account after they broke up and used his money to pay her credit card. He's suing for what he's owed. The defendant insists this was money she was owed after paying for her ex's car repairs and other things. She's countersuing for money still owed and defamation. Then, the plaintiff says he rented an apartment from the defendant, but the weasel is withholding his security deposit. He refuses to let it go, so he's suing to get it back. The defendant says the plaintiff left with no notice and damaged the home badly during his tenancy, so he's getting nothing back. Plus, the plaintiff says he bought a Dodge Ram from the defendant, and the entire suspension snapped three days later. He insists the defendant must have known about it, so the plaintiff is suing for a refund. The defendant says he told the plaintiff to bring the truck in so he could look at it, but he never showed up. Don't forget to rate and subscribe so you never miss an episode.
