Niall Kennedy is a former amateur and professional boxer from County Wexford. He had a very successful amateur career winning countless Leinster titles as well as the Irish Intermediate title. He was also an Irish elite finalist in 2013 and boxed in a great era of super-heavyweights in Ireland. Niall has worked as a police officer in the Garda for many years and won gold medals in tournaments around the world including the World Police and Fire Games. Niall turned professional at 31 years of age with his coach, Pascal Collins in 2015 and enjoyed early success on the east coast of America. He would claim US State titles in Massachusetts and New England against good opposition and would at one stage remain undefeated in 14 contests. Niall opens up about how he had to overcome prefight nerves and bipolar disorder during his career and how two defeats at the end of his career were hard to overcome. A devastating failed brain scan would signal the end of Niall's career in 2020 and his mental health would suffer for a time. Niall is now a mental health activist and has recently launched the program "NBK Survival Training". This program uses group training and open speech presentations to facilitate people with the tools and knowledge which can have a positive impact on their overall well-being. Captain Sheila Kelliher made history by being appointed the first female PIO in the history of the Las Angeles County Fire Department. Captain Kelliher earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in speech communications prior to graduating from the LACoFD's Recruit Academy, Class 102, in 2000.  She spent the next two decades promoting her way up the ranks from firefighter to paramedic and eventually to fire captain. Her most recent assignment was with Fire Station 125 in the City of Calabasas.Committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive workforce, Captain Kelliher has been actively involved in several initiatives through the Department's Community Outreach, Recruitment, Diversity, and Inclusion (CORDI) Section where she has volunteered her time and talent to assist with the Explorer Program, the Girls' Fire Camp, and Women's Fire Prep Academy to recruit and mentor youth from underserved communities as they pursue careers in the fire service.  Captain Kelliher is also a founding member and board member of the Women's Fire League.“As the first woman to hold this office, I think representation is important,” emphasized Captain Kelliher.  “It is important that young girls see themselves as strong leaders in their communities.”When Captain Kelliher is not on the job, she is a devoted wife and mother to 11-year-old twins (daughter, Marley, and son, Maximus).  With five gold medals won in previous World Police & Fire Games events, she is also a competitive athlete who enjoys playing golf, bodybuilding, and weight training.

Anyone who has even the slightest interest in mountain biking will know the name Glyn O'Brien. The Newry man is a legend in the sport, and  for good reason. Glyn's racing career spans the 90's to the present day, and he's crammed in plenty over the decades. He raced the UCI Downhill World Cup circuit from 1997 to 2006, and in 2009 came second I the World Masters Downhill Championships. But in 2003 Glyn lost the plot altogether – taking himself off to Utah where he competed in the Red Bull Rampage – and finished an incredible third. Legendary status confirmed, Glyn still went back for more the following year. Just in case you're not clear exactly what this event consists of, Glyn describes it as ‘basically jumping of a cliff on a bike.' And he's not joking - check out the footage on YouTube. When he's not hurling himself off mountains Glyn is immersed in the business end of the sport, working with Vitus Bikes a s a Brand Ambassador and founder of the Vitus First Tracks team, coaching and, oh yeah – he's also been a fireman for the past 14 years. In fact Glyn took gold at the World Police and Fire Games in Canada in 2011 and again at home in Northern Ireland in 2013. Whenever he can though Glyn can be found riding the local trails in Bigwood or at the Mountain Bike Trail Centre in Kilbroney Park - which he was involved in setting up in 2013. Armagh I caught up with Glyn when he came down from a day's work in Rostrevor, filming with the new range of Vitus bikes at the top of the mountain. The fit-as-a-fiddle athlete wasn't even out of breath as he talked about his love of downhill biking and adventure. Glyn tells us all about that memorable day in Utah, touches on the tricky topic of the dangers posed by walkers on the bike trails in Kilbroney Park, and how he would love to see the area expanded. There's no sign of Glyn slowing down, as he gears up to compete in the first round of this year's Irish Downhill Mountainbike Series , which takes place in Rostrevor next weekend, April 2 -3. The event is completely sold out, with mountain biking more popular than ever – and long may it last.

The World is changing before our eyes. Russian forces continue to advance into Ukraine. Residents in Kyiv are being handed guns as they prepare to try and defend their homes.I won't pretend for a moment to be some high-placed geopolitical analyst but in watching the events in Eastern Europe this week I've been taken by a few things.1) For all the tanks and artillery, paratroopers and fighter jets, Vladimir Putin continues to use information as perhaps his important and effective weapon. The propaganda and misinformation that comes from the Kremlin makes it very difficult for anyone – Russian or otherwise – to ever know with certainty what's true and what isn't. For months, Putin has been insisting he isn't preparing for war. Russian talk shows called Western governments' warning about a looming invasion ‘hysteria' and ‘absurd.' When Putin appeared on TV a few nights ago and made the case for invading Ukraine, he claimed to be fighting Ukrainian neo-Nazis, despite the fact Ukraine's president is a Jewish comedian. When the Ukrainian President made a similar address as a last-ditch effort to prevent war, he spoke in Russian, appealing directly to the Russian people.“I know they won't show my address on Russian TV.” He said.“But Russian people have to see it.”Russia dedicates resource to weaponising information abroad. Putin was able to utterly destablise parts of the American democracy by hacking emails from Hillary Clinton's campaign team. We'll never fully quantify just how many people were led astray by Russian bots spreading misinformation on Facebook in the leadup to the 2016 U.S election. But the Kremlin's propaganda octopus has awfully long tentacles. Just this week, the highest-rating show on Fox News was echoing talking points from the Kremlin. Host Tucker Carlson, no doubt led in his messaging by his close relationship with Donald Trump, said on-air that Ukraine isn't a “real democracy” and the conflict in Eastern Europe was a mere “border dispute.” Millions of viewers lapped it up.2) We are witnessing in real time yet another step in America's retreat from global dominance. I'm not saying Russia is taking its place. I'm just saying that Russia is thumbing its nose and there's next to nothing America can do about it. Having played World Police for the last seventy years, the American public has little appetite for foreign wars. Biden has ruled out fighting with Russian troops and the Afghanistan fiasco has reminded everyone that the World's mightiest military power perhaps isn't so mighty after all. The threat of sanctions was insufficient to stop Vladimir Putin. And that's it.It also has to be said, the U.S ceded the moral high ground. There is an obvious hypocrisy in seeing American leaders rage against Russia's invasion of a sovereign country. Vladimir Putin opposed the invasion of Iraq. If it was ok for the U.S to invade sovereign territory on the other side of the World, why can't Russia invade its neighbour?3) Once again we are reminded of the impotence of international organisations. Countries like New Zealand can strongly condemn and blah blah blah but it won't do anything. The U.N is hamstrung by the Security Council's power of veto. Russia's biggest trading partner, China, is conspicuous in its relative silence, so far refusing to condemn the Russian invasion and likely gaming out what the international response would mean for potential similar action in Taiwan.We are watching the World order change in real time. All we can really do is hope it isn't too bloody.

Here, the Avengers get an alert that there is a giant in Africa that is demanding human sacrifices, but, because it is not seen as a “huge” threat and many of the team members are busy with other work, the decision is made that Giant-Man and the Wasp can handle it on their own. The story otherwise follows the common pattern: the villain is ACTUALLY an alien who is “testing the ground” to see if his people should invade. After encountering resistance from Giant-Man, the alien giant decides for his people that “Earth is not worth it”. Sounds familiar? While Lee is trying to get kids to read more issues across the entire Marvel line, he is still generally assuming that most readers will not notice that this is the same story he has told with a half dozen earlier alien invasions.In this issue:Giant-Man and the Wasp head to Africa to investigate the story of a 30 foot tall giant. They fly over in a jet, and sure enough, there is a giant who grabs their jet out of the sky. Giant-Man and the Wasp are able to use teamwork to beat the giant, who is led to believe that they possess strange magical powers.
