Alright, it took us 3 tries to get this epoisode recorded. A few major news stories broke out during that time, and everything feels like it's on fire. So, what better time to talk about the Virgin Queen? We're starting with Elizabeth's early years; her mother's beheading, being disinherited at age 3, trying to earn her place in court, and what happens when King dad dies, and you're no where near the throne..... When you were a kid, did you every try to evoke the legend of Bloody Mary? Well .... what if we told you that one of Bloody Mary's inspiration is our own Queen Mary the first of England! But, she didn't pop up in your bathroom ... we'll get into all that. When we last left Mary, her father had passed and a there was a new King in Town - her MUCH younger brother and godson, and faith-rival, Edward (the 6th). A boy king on the throne, what could go wrong? A boy king with a VERY different faith, who was scared of Mary - I repeat - WHAT COULD GO WRONG??? Get your boots, a toothbrush and your cloak, we're going to Tudor England! We're so excited to dive into the childhood of Queen Mary the First of England, a.k.a. "Bloody Mary". But was she always so "bloody"? From being an acomplished little princess, to childhood engagements, and then to finding out she isn't an only child anymore... being a princess was NOT all it's cracked up to be! Welcome back, settle in, because we're continuing with Part 2 of Mata Hari! Last week, we ended on Mata Hari taking Paris by storm and the critics were raving about her. This week, we learn what happened in world politics, how two nations vied for her intel, and how her hips weren't technically truthful and what the consequences were for that. Have you ever heard of Mata Hari? Well, if you were in Paris in the early 1900s, then you DEFINITELY have heard of this cunning performer and businesswoman. She was a mysteriously attractive woman with dance moves that captured the city's hearts. But her beginnings aren't what you think... Image credits: image created using openart.ai
Surprise! This is coming a week late so everyone has heard the news, but the US political world got a flippity doo dah last week. Let's take it back. WAAAY back. Back to Ancient Alexandria (Egypt) where we meet Hypatia, only daughter and child of Theon. And they were the definition of a healthy Father-Daughter Philosophical Mathematics duo! Why is she important? Ohhhh, just by being a beauty! A SMART beauty, who rose the ranks of Academia and began to lead lectures on her own. Men (and some women, we imagine) would come from all over the Mediterrannean to learn from her. She was BIG NEWS! But not everyone loved her like we do... Image credit: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Hypatia_by_Julius_Kronberg,_1889,_detail.jpg
Sooooooooo..... Don't buy Soap from Leonarda. I don't care what she offers you.. It's not morally good soap, and honestly how much can human soap really clean? TRIGGER WARNING FOR THE ENTIRE EPISODE: This episode contains themes of violence, cannibalism, and other horrifying acts. IF this is not your thing, we totally understand, and we invite you to come back next week for another tale with less of these themes. Image Credit: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Leonarda_Cianciulli.jpg
Sooo, you know how we LOVE a good feminine rage story - this isn't it. This is more of the drug-less "Breaking Bad" vibes. We're talking about Leonarda Cianciulli - The Soapmaker of Correggio (Italy). She's not a simple DIY pro - we're dealing with a full blown serial killer! This week we're dealing with crafts and kills, mother/son relationships, and the last soap store we'd ever shop at. OOOOOOOOHHHHH! This is a good one! All our revenge girlies, rise up! Jeanne de Clisson is leading the charge to avenge her husband, her lands, her monies, and traumatizing her sons in the process. But it's fine, it's FIIIIINE. Everything is FINE! Hannah is just getting all excited by the "Danaerys Targaryen"/Olga of Kiev vibes in this episode. Songstress, activist, and all-around amazing human. From her unusual name (hint, not "Miriam" but another of her names), her musical debut and, of course, "The Click Song", to her exile and world-wide-impact. Ooooooh boy, Belle is on a rampage now! Our main character is luring in lonely men through the want ads, or old-timey "online dating" for the kids today. She advertised herself as a snack, a catch, hard to ignore. However, her motives were so so so much darker. Than anyone would have guessed. image credits: https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?search=Belle+Guinness&title=Special:MediaSearch&type=image

Today we start a WILD two-parter on what can essentially breakdown to "missed connections gone horribly wrong - for the men". Belle Guinness is our topic today, a serial killer of the female persuasion. Originally from Norway, Belle emigrated to the US and began "operating " in Chicago, falling in love with butchery, and then taking things too far. image credit: Wikipedia Commons. link: https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?search=Belle+gunness+&title=Special:MediaSearch&type=image

In this week's episode of The Crownening, Hannah and Lauren have so much to cover it went into two parts! This first half covers the Crown episode 7 until about the halfway point, when HM Lizzie meets Professor Hogg for the first time. Spoilers, obviously.
THE Notorious R.B.G.!!!!! The legendary Supreme Court Justice is our topic today, one that we are extremely excited to dive into. This week we're starting at the very beginning, when Ruth was born and diving into her education and early career as a lawyer. But be warned, we'll be ringing the "misogyny bell" throughout... Seriously, like A LOT! DISCLAIMER - This episode was recorded over a video conferencing platform, so the audio cuts off some of our sentences. We did our best to fis it in editing, but we weren't able to get it all.
Oh Hellooooo, darlings. It's a spicy one this week: Margaret has an important question to ask Lizzie We define the title of the episode Fluff is sexy Cookie is at her peak "cookie-ness" trying to hide a scandal
Uh oh, guys ... Jeannie's in the clink! Our favorite holy morale booster has been deemed a CRIMINAL and BLASPHEMOUS! She is purchased by the English and held on trial, with death as the penalty. Her Crimes? Wearing pants, acting upon DEMONIC (?) visions, and refusing to be judged by plain old human men and decreed only God could judge her. Welp, let's see how this goes! (I think we already know, though...) Image credits: Image of Jeanne d'Arc in New Orleans by Emmanuel Frémiet , sourced from Wikimedia Commons. Chip Chip Cheerio and Hello everyone! It's time for our next installment of royal drama that isn't going on right now! This week we see Elizabeth getting ready to officially be crowned "Queen" and she names Philip as the Board director or something of the whole affair. WELL, the men in suits with mustaches DO NOT like it and believe he is going to ruin the whole thing, and the monarchy! MEANWHILE: Our favorite former king is arriving in his least favorite city, London, to attend the coronation. But, the men with suits and mustaches need to have a chat with him first, and it gets HEATED. We're really starting to heat up now!
Hello, Hello, Hello! Welcome pack for Part 2 of Jeanne D'Arc. When we join Jeanne this week she is leading the Dauphin, Charles (Heir to throne of France), on a road trip to get crowned. *Mrs. Doubtfire voice* Oh hellOOOOOoooo! Queen Lizzie's reign starts to heat up when a special fog rolls into London Town, and it causes CHAOS. No one can see (or breathe) a damned thing. Everyone is looking to Winston Churchill to solve the problem, but what is he worried about? Phillip flying! Is he serious??? We also get to know more about the new girl, Venetia Scott! She's got the hots for ... Winston Churchill? We're not entirely sure, but she's definitely crushing on him - luckily platonically, kind of! We've got a lot to cover, and more! Welcome to part 1 of the Life and Times of Jeanne D'Arc, or as we in the States know her, Joan of Arc! This is one of the legendary ones, and for good reasons. In this episode we tackle a looong and inappropriately named war (in 3 distinct segments), bodies bodies everywhere, and one simple girl hearing voices in the fields. Joan was a 15 or 16 year old girl who had visions of her destiny, delivered by angels from God, and she was to fight for and restore the rightful King of France. But first, she has to get there, needs people to believe that she isn't insane, and needs an army. What's a girl to do? Image Credits: "Joan of Arc" by John Everett Millais (1865)
Oh helloooo! We are on episode 3 of the first season of Netflix's "The Crown". This week, it's the big day and boy did this episode deliver! You know them, you love them (probably), they're BREASTS! Today, the topic is mammories, boobs, breasts, titties, or any other name you know them by. Lauren helps us by diving into the topic and humorously educates us through the biology of how they work! So dive in and get to know more about your favorite pair of boobs today! Sorry we're late this week, but Happy Saturday! We're trying something new this year, and we're so excited to share it with you (finally)! Lauren and Hannah both love Netflix's The Crown (centering on the reign of Queen Elizabeth II), looking back on how this woman took on the insurmountable role of British Monarch in her mid 20's, how she effected a nation (and the world) for decades! Folks, let me tell you, making this first episode has been interesting, to say the least. We hit a number of technical issues, and you will hear us get a bit loopy and slappy on this episode because of it.
We've got some mythic warrior maidens today! We're taking it back to 1900 in China, during a time of uprising - the Boxer Uprising. We're talking about The Red Lanterns, an elite group of women trained to fight AND were rumored heavily to have SUPERNATURAL ABILITIES! Keep in mind, the girls in The Red Lanterns were only between the ages of 11 to 17 years old!!!! Can you remember what you were doing at 11 years old? She started from the bottom, now she here! Lauren has the tea this week on a woman who went from a tragically kidnapped/enslaved child to the Chief Consort and Legal Wife of the Ottoman Sultan, Suleiman the Magnificent! That's quite the upgrade, how'd she pull it off? Listen in to find out! Image credits: Latin oil painting of Hurrem Sultan titled Rosa Solymanni Vxor (Rosa, Süleyman's Wife) (Roxelana), c. 1500-1558. It's a fun one this week! Lauren regails us with the determination of one woman to "save America" from the drink. That's right! This week, we are covering Carrie A. Nation, a woman known for her dedication to Prohibition and her unusually violent methods in doing so. While today we may not agree with her methods or with Prohibition at all, we can understand her reasoning behind it. Alcohol can effect more than just the person drinking and many women at this time had suffered the consequences of their husband's drinking. To many, Prohibition was the answer. I guess we'll see how it all shakes out! Hey, friends! This week, Lauren brings us the life and times of one Ida B. Wells! Picture this, you're a young black girl born into slavery in the 1860's in Mississippi. Childhood is tragedy after tragedy, and you're separated from your family at a young age by being sold off. Then, after you're emapncipated, your begin a career in investigative journalism and begin to publish pamphlet after pamphlet calling out the horrifying and brutal treatment/murder of Black men/women in your community. All of a sudden, you and your paper are a target! What does a woman do in this case? Well... luckily Ida knew :) I promise this has a happy-ish ending! Today Lauren brings us the tale of the kidnapping of Patricia Hearst, granddaughter of newspaper tycoon and policitican William Randolph Hearst. It a truly twisty tale, starting with living with her hippy boyfriend, and then being taken from the apartment, stowed away, blindfolded. BUT, it doesn't stop there. There's ransom, brainwashing, an attempted bank heist and then the police make some arrests.... but who they arrest is quite interesting.
