CeADAR and Google Ireland have announced a new strategic partnership to help Irish businesses capitalise on the economic potential of AI. CeADAR, Ireland's European Digital Hub for AI, and Google signed the agreement at a meeting with the Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment, Peter Burke TD at Government Buildings. Recent research from Google and Implement Consulting Group shows that widespread adoption of AI has the potential to boost Ireland's GDP by €40-45 billion. The new partnership between CeADAR and Google aims to support Irish businesses to adopt AI to boost competitiveness and productivity. CeADAR and Google will focus on building an AI-ready workforce and driving the adoption of AI-powered solutions through a three-pillar approach: Addressing the AI skills gap - this includes tailored learning paths that provide on-demand training for varying proficiency levels, enhancing technical skills in cloud and product mastery while transforming leaders into AI-driven strategists. Scaling AI capabilities - empower Irish businesses to rapidly and responsibly test and implement AI solutions by leveraging Google's expertise and resources. CeADAR will provide access to Google Cloud resources, including €3M in Google Cloud credits and advanced AI tools like Vertex AI and Gemini 2.0. Investing in the future - preparing Ireland for the next phase of AI through training and mentorship initiatives, for CeADAR staff and interns, building key cloud related skills. Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment, Peter Burke TD said: "This partnership between CeADAR and Google is the type of public and private sector collaboration that is needed to ensure we are equipping Irish businesses to benefit from the economic opportunities AI presents. AI has the potential to have a transformative, positive impact on Ireland's competitiveness and the government is committed to creating an ecosystem where businesses can fully utilise the power of AI to innovate, expand, and compete on a global scale." Lorraine Twohill, Chief Marketing Officer at Google said: "AI presents a tremendous opportunity for Ireland, with the potential to significantly boost the economy. Ireland has built a strong foundation for a safe and reliable AI environment, supported by the Government's clear ambition to capitalise on this transformative technology. This partnership with CeADAR is designed to help businesses navigate the challenges and opportunities AI brings - transforming how jobs are performed, creating new AI-focused roles, and enabling businesses to thrive in an AI-powered economy. By combining Google's expertise with CeADAR's capabilities, we are confident that we can unlock AI's full economic potential and drive sustainable growth across Irish businesses." Dr. John Lonsdale, CEO, CeADAR commented: "Unlocking AI's economic potential won't happen automatically and requires a proactive approach to workforce adaptation. We have been working with Irish businesses in recent years to help them leverage AI and machine learning but with the dynamic evolution of the technology more can be done to upskill Irish businesses, grow and nurture AI talent and facilitate faster adoption of AI. Ireland has a unique opportunity to harness the wider expertise that exists in our bustling tech sector - bringing our expertise together with Google is one key that can begin to unlock the economic opportunity AI will bring." Professor Kate Robson Brown, UCD Vice-President for Research, Innovation and Impact said, "Our researchers and innovators at University College Dublin (UCD) draw on the breadth and depth of their expertise to deliver knowledge and solutions that matter. They are leading the way in fields, such as AI, that are transforming the world around us. Advancing research and innovation is one of UCD's central pillars guiding the University to break boundaries and to deliver lasting and meaningful impact. "To do so we draw on our strengths and our partnerships, s...

This one is deep so see tons of explanatory resources below. The philosophy talk turns to political talk (easier to grok) after about 15 minutes, but the philosophical context adds a lot of richness to the latter conversation. Patricia MacCormack is driving productive tension between philosophy and political action. Her Ahuman Manifesto is strongly recommended, even to those who may take issue with it in principle (anti-natalism! anti-idpol! anti-human!), because it makes a forceful argument for a politics based in empathy and care as applied to everyone and every thing. Core concepts you might not be familiar with:Posthumanism — if you recall, a kind of running theme of the podcast is "posthumanism is kinda sus.” As a philosophical stance, it means an expansion of categories of agency and vitality, thought and creativity, to forces beyond the mere human. Rosi Braidotti (Patricia MacCormack's PhD advisor) was one of the first major forces in this field, and Patricia has written extensively on it as well (see her Posthuman Ethics). In practice, of course, posthumanism gets confused pretty quickly — Reza kicks off the first episode of the pod with a brutal critique that Patricia sustains here: many people tend to use posthumanism to advance a kind of hard anthropocentrism applied to everything, a way of accidentally inflating the human all the way out to the cosmic level. It's likely good to critique anthropocentrism at all scales, but it is a very challenging thing to do in practice without carrying out what Reza calls “inflation”, assigning anthropogenic models to everything from fish to stones to electromagnetism. E.g. "my politics include this rock" turns pretty quickly to "this rock has some vital characteristics I'm imposing upon it through my own human gaze."Transhumanism — kind of reversal of the posthuman project. Think Neuralink, human cloning, or dramatic surgical alterations. Transhumanism is humanism transcended, the human project continues but with greater veracity, constructed to conquer the future. A nice quote, per the Xenofeminist Manifesto (not quite a transhumanist project but also not not one) is "if nature is unjust, change nature." If the human as presently understood is insufficiently capable to handle its futures, change the human, make it live longer, act more efficiently, move faster.Asemiosis — the absence or breakdown of traditional semiotic processes, where signs cease to function within the established systems of meaning. This is what happens when we operate within a superabundance of signs and references on massive scales. Don't worry about this one too much.Potestas to Potentia — lmao ok. Potestas in Spinoza refers to the word “power” as we most often understand it, authority, domination, or control. Power OVER. Potentia, on the other hand, refers to power as an intrinsic capacity or potential within an individual or entity. The, uh, power within… so to speak. (Michel Serres concept of “grace”, that MacCormack refers to occasionally, is similar to potential). It's a nice way to think about power without the coercive connotations.Irigaray “letting be” / Serres “stepping aside” — many people have theorized political inaction as a type of action. Check out Bifo Berardi's latest interview on Acid Horizon where he talks about “defection" so sickkkk. This doesn't mean doing nothing, but rather not doing (opting out).Knowledge — this isn't as hard as it comes across. Patricia is basically attacking the need for us to know each other to help each other, to understand each other in order to have empathy for each other. Why? Well, understanding requires communication, which means that information is moving through protocols (e.g. language, digitization, facial expressions, etc…) that are always already encoded with power.Difference — also not so bad! What is difference? You and I are different! Everything is different. For many postmodern philosophers, you can reverse that statement into “difference is everything.” And once you start to think of difference as constructive stuff, well, the world gets quite interesting. For people like Patricia MacCormack, difference is probably a good thing and forces that move to hide, cloak, or suppress difference are probably bad.Art — not what you think art is in this context, like a "painting" for example. Instead, it's an encounter with the unknown, a way of communicating without understanding (this follows from Maurice Blanchot's theories of art as event, which one can also find in a different but not unrelated way in the writings of Alain Badiou, who believes that art is a specific kind of truth different from scientific truth or political truth).HMU via @dis.integrator if I can help with this one.

It was a mixed session on Wall Street overnight as investors focus ahead to the pivotal debt ceiling negotiation talks at 5:30pm on Monday evening in the U.S. where President Biden will meet again with house speaker Kevin McCarthy to continue debt ceiling talks with just 10-days left until the earliest date that Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said the US could default. The S&P500 rose 0.02% on Monday, the Dow Jones fell 0.42% and the tech-heavy Nasdaq rose 0.5%. Reporting season is coming to an end, but investors are still awaiting the release of first quarter earnings results out of Zoom Video, and Lowe's. The US has also agreed to back the development of Australia's critical minerals industry after the two country's agreed to coordinate policies and investment to support the industry's growth. This is a major deal for Australia's local miners and producers as Australia supplies around half of the world's lithium and other minerals like rare earths.Over in Europe, markets closed mixed as investors in the region await key signs of progress toward raising the U.S. debt ceiling to avoid the catastrophic potential outcome of defaulting on debts. In Greece, the Athens General Composite Index soared 7% on Monday after the New Democracy, ruling Conservative Party, secured a firm lead in the elections on Sunday. Germany's DAX fell 0.32% on Monday after closing at a record high on Friday, while the French CAC fell 0.18% but, in the UK, the FTSE100 rose 0.18%.The local market closed the first trading session of the week 0.22% lower, weighed down by investors selling out of real estate and communication services stocks, which offset a 1.5% rally for the tech sector. Tyro Payments (ASX:TYR) tanked over 16% on Monday after Potentia Capital walked away from takeover talks with the payments company following Potentia's completion of due diligence into Tyro. New regulations in the buy now, pay later sector also sent shockwaves through the share prices of key players like Zip Co (ASX:ZIP) and Block (ASX:SQ2), parent company of Afterpay. The regulations set to be imposed on the BNPL providers will include tougher requirements for credit checking to avoid consumers taking on unaffordable debt through use of the pay later options. What to watch today:Ahead of the local trading session here in Australia, the SPI futures are expecting the local market to open 0.07% higher. On the commodities front this morning, oil continued its decline into a third day on Monday as investors continue to assess the stop-start negotiations underway in the US over the debt ceiling crisis. Investors are concerned about the impact the pending debt ceiling outcome will have on energy demand from China's lacklustre economic recovery, in addition to the possibility of a recession in the US. Oil has rebounded this morning to trade 0.64% higher at US$72.15/barrel. Gold is trading 0.22% lower at US$1972.14/ounce and iron ore is down 1.81% at US$108.50/tonne.AU$1.00 is buying US$0.67, 92.16 Japanese Yen, 0.53 British Pence and NZ$1.06.Stocks trading ex-dividend today include Amcor (ASX:AMC) and Elders (ASX:ELD). If you've been thinking about these stocks, it might be worth considering buying in today as stocks trading ex-dividend generally trade lower on the ex-dividend date.Trading Ideas:Bell Potter has increased the rating on AFT Pharma (ASX:AFP) from a hold to a buy and have increased the price target on the drug development company from $3.16 to $4 following the release of the company's FY23 results including a 27% increase in product sales revenue to $156.5 million and a 180 basis points increase in gross profit margin to 46.3%. The company also has a short-term catalyst in October 2023 in the upcoming approval date for Maxigesic IV (4) in the US where commercial launch triggers a $6 million milestone.Trading Central has identified a bearish signal on Magell

The RBA today announced the nation's cash rate will increase by 0.25% or 25 basis points, to 3.35% in a move widely expected by the markets. RBA governor Philip Lowe said ‘global inflation remains very high' and warned further rate hikes will be needed in coming months to bring inflation back to the target range. The ASX tanked immediately after the announcement following warnings from Philip Lowe that further rate hikes are needed in coming months, despite the rate hike today meeting market expectations, which saw the usual rate-hike sensitive suspects including REIT stocks sold off post the announcement as investors anticipate further impact to REIT stock balance sheets on the back of this next interest rate hike. For the day though, the key index ended the session down 0.46%. Hot takeover target Nitro Software (ASX:NTO) received a proposal from Potentia Capital to engage with Nitro in relation to gaining access to due diligence, with a view to potentially increase its current $2/Nitro share off-market takeover offer to the range of $2.20 to $2.30 per share. Nitro shareholders are cautioned that there is no certainty Potentia will increase its offer for the Nitro takeover, and the current $2/share bid from Potentia is inferior to the Alludo takeover offer of $2.15/share that is set to expire on 3rd March. The Nitro board is currently seeking advice from its external financial and legal advisors.Nuix (ASX:NXL) skyrocketed 40% today after the investigative analytics and intelligence software company announced the Federal Court of Australia has delivered its judgement in relation to the proceedings brought by former Nuix boss, Edward Sheehy against Nuix. The Federal Court this morning dismissed Mr Sheehy's claims and said there is no requirement for Nuix to amend its options register and that Mr Sheehy is not entitled to any monetary compensation from the company. The initial claims Mr Sheehy made were him being owed options and entitlement of shares to the value of $183m plus interest, which today was dismissed. The winning stocks today were led by New Hope Corporation (ASX:NHC) rallying 3.70%, Link Administration (ASX:LNK) adding 3.43% and Magellan Financial Group (ASX:MFG) ending the day up 3.36%.And on the losing end ARB Corp (ASX:ARB) tanked more than 12% after Macquarie responded to the companies half year trading update, downgrading ARB to neutral. Lifestyle Communities (ASX:LIC) fell 5.7% today and Centuria Capital (ASX:CNI) lost 5.58%.The most traded stocks by Bell Direct clients today were Newcrest Mining (ASX:NCM), Telix Pharmaceuticals (ASX:TLX) and New Hope Corporation (ASX:NHC).Australia's trade balance data for December was also released today, showing the country's trade surplus declined to $12.237bn for the month, down from $13.475bn in November. The trade surplus decline was larger than economists were expecting and mainly driven by surging cost pressures on exports against imports growing amid China's easing of tough COVID restrictions. Exports for the month fell 1.4% from November, while imports rose 1% from November. Overall, Australia posted its fifth straight year of trade surplus buoyed by robust sales of key commodities like iron ore and natural gas.Taking a look at commodities, oil is trading almost 1% higher at US$74.78/barrel, gold is up 0.32% at US$1873.11/ounce and iron ore is down 0.8% at US$125.50/tonne.

Welcome to Episode 96 of the Think UDL podcast: Neurodivergent Workforce Win-Win with Jeff Miller. Jeff Miller is the founder and CEO of Potentia, an organization that not only matches neurodivergent talent with companies, but also works with companies to make sure that the work environments are optimal for their neurodiverse employees, which means neurotypical and neurodistinct employees feel supported and comfortable in their workplace. In this conversation, we talk about why recruiting neurodistinct individuals is a good idea for both employee and employer, how to create an interview and onboarding process that lessens the barriers to hiring ND (neurodistinct) talent, what measures a company can take to create a favorable environment for all workers, including the neurodistinct ones, and how to support these processes. Along the way we talk about why he created this company and why it makes sense! In fact, there is a lot of talk about our “why”s in today's conversation and it maps so seamlessly onto why UDL is so important in higher education and how the same principles are implemented in the workforce and benefit both workers and employers. We talk about why it is important to focus on your goal and how to do that, and Jeff outlines how Potentia enables companies to hire and retain fantastic candidates by creating an environment where all workers can thrive.

EPISODE 12 - Our Discussion - We welcome Shawn Fry and he shares his journey with Asperger's and life with his 2 daughters living with Autism. This frank and beautiful conversation opens the door to understanding and listening to one Dad sharing his thoughts and his struggles but also the beautiful joy of discovering how Autism is not a disability but that of a different ability! Bio - our Guest Shawn, became a successful executive and entrepreneur after being diagnosed with Asperger's at age 42. He found success in his professional career only after he was afforded the opportunity as an executive in the healthcare industry to exercise a great deal of autonomy in his role. Shawn's propensity for detail, hard questions and divergent solutions produced millions in both new revenue opportunity and cost savings for his employer. His innovative approach to the complexity of healthcare data laid the foundation for his entrepreneurial company, Prevalent Health where he left corporate America behind, hired nearly 150 employees and created his own "neurodiverse workplace culture". Shawn found that by cultivating an environment dependent upon open, honest dialogue, clear communication and vulnerability, the workplace culture was more supportive and accommodating to everyone's needs. People were happier, more productive and turnover rates were 0% after nearly 15 years. Shawn sold his company to private equity in 2019 and has dedicated the rest of his life to embracing neurodiversity and the powers it unlocks through thought leadership, personal security and self-esteem in one's uniqueness. Shawn founded the Neurodiversity Foundation in 2016 in hopes of removing barriers and changing the narrative around neurodivergence in all professional fields and social environments. Shawn aims to drastically improve quality of life for neurodivergent individuals through the Neurodiversity Foundation's goals to facilitate self-efficacy, acceptance, connection, and strengthen our communities and workforce. He left corporate America behind hiring nearly 150 employees to create his own neurodiverse workplace culture. He's been granted multiple patents, created dozens of healthcare analytics platforms, is a well respected speaker and author. In 2019 he sold his company to private equity and is spending the rest of his life, embracing neurodiversity, and the powers in the logic of leadership, personal security, and self-esteem in one's uniqueness. I love that. He's currently CIO of Potentia and CSO/Founder of the Neurodiversity Foundation and that's what we're talking about today! Enjoy! As CIO of Potentia and The Neurodiversity Foundation founder, Shawn continues to build pathways for others on the spectrum to recognize their ability. It's not actually power [Scientia potentia est] We're on a mission to help one million people RISE by 2030 - join the movement at www.myrise.co.uk “Knowledge is power” A phrase you may have heard. Attributed originally to Sir Francis Bacon. In his book Meditationes Sacrae from 1597 a quick Google tells me. It seems he didn't quite say that (something pretty close) and the first verified usage of the phrase is from a 1668 version of the work Leviathan by Thomas Hobbes. But, who's counting? This isn't a history lesson. So, is knowledge is power? Kinda. In and of itself, it doesn't do all that much. Knowledge without action doesn't get us anywhere. It's the action that's key. Knowledge allows us to take the better actions. The ones that lead to better results and / or a higher return on investment for our efforts. But the action is key. Always. I've seen people get in pretty good shape not really knowing all that much about nutrition and training, but by consistently doing what they do know. And I've seen plenty of people who are mega knowledgeable in those areas but aren't in the best of shape. Knowledge isn't power. It's potential power. You know enough right now to be getting better results than you are. We all do. It would be quite an insult to anyone's intelligence to suggest otherwise. Check with us if you want to get more for your efforts, sure. But action is key. What's the next action you can take that will start (or continue) to take you in the direction you want to go in? Much love, Jon ‘Sit vis nobiscum' Hall

Shawn found that by cultivating  an environment-dependent upon open, honest dialogue, clear communication, and vulnerability, the workplace culture was more supportive and accommodating to everyone's needs. People were happier, more productive, and turnover rates were 0% after nearly 15 years.  Shawn is a holder of multiple technology patents, which he utilized to create dozens of healthcare analytics platforms. He remains a well-respected speaker and author on critical healthcare issues. It's been a week since our last podcast.  So it's always nice to see you guys back. We're recording a whole bunch of them the last week of the year, and so,  this is another one. It has been non-stop all day, we've been talking to so many brilliant people and our guest today is no exception. We're talking to Shawn Fry, we're going to entrepreneurship today.  So Shawn was diagnosed with Asperger's at 42 years old.  After he realized that, after he got that diagnosis, he realized what was up with him, and that allowed him to achieve success in his professional life above and beyond anything he could have imagined. The CIO of several hospitals systems... completely rebuilt them, redid them, then he became an entrepreneur, focusing on entrepreneurial healthcare, technology, around analytics, revenue cycle, clinical informatics. He left corporate America behind, hired nearly 150 employees, created his own neuro diverse workplace culture. He got multiple patents under your belt, you've created dozens of healthcare, analytic platforms.  You're a well respected speaker and author on tons of different healthcare issues. You sold your company in 2019 to private equity. Spending the rest of his life, embracing neurodiversity, and the powers in the logics of leadership, personal security, and self-esteem in one's uniqueness. I love that. He's currently CEO of Potentia and the Neurodiversity Foundation.  Let's talk about that, Shawn, welcome to Faster Than Normal man. Thanks Peter, thanks for having me. And now it's great to have you. So what were you doing up until 42. And were you happy? That was a mixed bag, I wasn’t you know, I grew up...I grew up in Philly, you know, and there was no diagnosis back then, right, I was just a kid….very disruptive, uh, didn’t know how to socially integrate, uh, you know, I either had hyper-focus, or no interest whatsoever. I was voted the laziest person in my high school, which is so comical now to look back at it, you know, people have a tendency to cast dispersions on us when they don't understand, and, uh, what's interesting about my diagnosis with Asperger's,I was a CIO of a hospital system. I was meeting the Chief Medical Officer, he was a close personal friend who knew me. We worked together pretty regularly, even though I'm not really good with people, I'm really good with data so I was able to, there's a long story behind the pathway, of how I got there, uh, another person with Asperger's interceded and got me into the hospital where I could, where I could work and shine and show the skills that we have. Uh, but I, I asked him, I said, Hey, John, can I, should I take some medicine for my ADHD? And he goes, he looks at me.. we were sitting over,  lunch together, and goes, “you don't have ADHD.”  I was like, what do you mean? I said, I'm so hyper, I never slow down. He goes, Nope, you're an Aspbe.  I was like, what's that? He goes, you have Asperger's syndrome. I'm like, what's that? I was like, you know any, he said, Sean, you have autism. I'd never heard it before. And I was 42 years old, gone through the school system, gone through college with, and really struggled in life.  He didn't really know that because he only ever saw me more professionally where I could mask, like I think we all do, you know, we're always told to sit down, hold our hands together. not move around too much Of course, we’re wearing different masks for different locations.  Different masks for different locations, right. So I went home and I looked it up. I looked it up on Wikipedia and I tell you what, if you die, if you type into Google right now, what is autism? You will not find one positive thing.  Right?  I was pissed. sorry if that’s… you know. I was upset. I was mad at him. I didn't talk to him for two weeks until I started reading more about it. I, I, what my threshold to accept this about myself was, and then it just all started making sense. Right?  I was like, I refuse to let the standard definition, the clinical definition, the DSM definition of either ADHD or autism define me. I knew I was a good person. I had something to contribute. I had some success at that point, but I was so afraid to put myself out there, because I knew that if people saw me for what I really was, they would diminish you.  And now it was really the changing point in my life.  Well, the second you... the second you, when you, I mean, of course, if all you're reading about is how it's a negative, right. of course, the second that, you know, you publicize it, (indistinguishable) The whole world will think that you're a negative because that's what you’re seeing.   Right?  There's something wrong with me. I have, I have a learning disability, which is, which is, if you look at my history, it's the opposite. I think all of you, if you find one of our hyper fixations, or when (indistinguishable) u know, these are, we are the ones that change the world. I mean, I did it. I started working on problems, my patents were on mathematical formulas and telecommunications. Nobody paid me to do that, nope. I just decided, you know what, this is a problem we're solving.  Right.  And I started working on these uh, calculations and because of my, you know, my neurodiversity, I locked myself in a room for nine months and I would only leave on Wednesdays.  Nine months later, I walked out of there. Uh, had solved some of these groundbreaking telecommunications issues, then submitted those for patents. When they got to the patent office, nobody in the patent office knew how to do the math, because nobody's ever worked on the math this way before. and I was just starting to realize, well, because to me it was common sense, right?  How do we structure things? But I didn't do it because somebody paid me. I did it because it was a problem to solve, and... that's what we do.  I think you struck on something there I'd like to touch on. You know, the premise of, to me, it was common sense, right? You know, I have everything I've ever done in my life, to me, it was common sense, right? But…. but I can't tell you how many times I've suggested something that sounds perfectly normal, and everyone's looked at me like I told them I was a spotted owl, right?  You know, it's that… well, it makes perfect sense, why wouldn't we do it this way? And you know, you get everything from, well, we never do it this way, that's never the way we've done it, we've never done it that way. You know, what's wrong with you? What do they think of us, whatever. But in our heads we're sitting there going, but it works  Right, you are correct.  And I think that that's, that's difficult because that's sort of, sort of like it's failure by assimilation, right.  And the respect that if you're sitting there and you're saying, okay, I know this works, but everyone's going to call me an idiot. I don't want to have to deal with that. I'm just not going to bring it up. The highway is littered with, with, great ideas that have been run over because people didn't bother to act on them because they were afraid of what people would say. Uh-huh That was it, exactly, and again, one of the advantages I have of not being, and I want to talk about how neuro people.. who are neuro-diverse are treated now and to no longer take that stigma. One of the advantages I had of growing up in Philly is you kind of get that little edge to you, right? The people in Philly are tough, the people in New York are tough.  You kind of, you kind of let this stuff bounce off of you, so empowered with that and realizing that I was, you know, these ideas work. After I was diagnosed and realized that I think differently, and recognizing that had value, I started speaking up in meetings. I was afraid to do that before, because you know, first of all, a lot of people thought I was weird.  I don't go to lunches. I don't go to happy hours. I don't do things other people  like to do, but I'm super interested in my work. So I started speaking up about some of the issues both the administration was making in the hospital, and particularly…. what just drove people crazy, I started challenging the doctors… on their,  on the ways they were diagnosing patients, the way the care, the care plans, saying, listen either, there's one of three things, happened here with this patient. You either misdiagnosed them cause they weren't getting better, you provided the medication that can't metabolize, or they're not taking the medication.  Who’s going to follow up with this patient and figure out why this patient’s still sick?  Doctors don't have time for that. As I started analyzing the data, I realized this is a prolific issue. These are things that are still issues in healthcare today, and if you've ever gone to the doctor and he's put you on medication, you're still six, six months later, or things get better.  A lot of times people were put on medications that don't really work. They just get better naturally, these are, these are prolific issues that there's not a field of science  because it is a neuro divergent thought process, that neuro typically, simply don't synthesize. These are the kinds of ways that people like you and I, as you just like you, you're challenging the way people are thinking about, So many, so many issues, and there has to be a form to bring that to the market. And you're doing that and we need to create a louder voice. Our voices, our brains are not compromised. They do, they just run faster and they take more variables into consideration. It's the calculus that we're doing. Everything I do in my world. Everything is a math equation from the total number of times I brush my teeth, and in the weird pattern, which I do it, to how I organize my cereal and my closet, to how I organize my day. We're not just random people, but other people looking at us think we look crazy, but there's nothing wrong with that. It's actually, I, I, I, I'm a strengths first, everything from my foundation to the workforce, we're creating now is about listening. How do we leverage these strengths to people about their deficits? I talk about their strengths. And as they start to believe that, psychologically you start to see effective change.   I think there's also a, um, a premise in there…. that… I remember everything I've ever started, every company I’ve ever built, and you know, people that, Oh my God, it just seems like I didn't even hear about it yesterday and now it's all over the place…. you might, you know, you got so lucky. Well, yeah, it was also 20 years of acting the way I act and doing the things I do and dealing with it on the says, you're ridiculous for doing this, that brought me to this very moment. Right? And so the things that we do, you know, you wake up, every step you take, every cereal you eat... all that stuff, that's who we are. And the benefit is there. But again, a lot of us are, are, are bogged down by the look of it. Oh, what are people going to think, right. But the fact of matter is, not that we're changing anything, it simply works and we embrace it. (indistinguishable) One thing I think you're exactly right, but here's the thing. We have to figure out a way to create an audience for it.  have two children on the spectrum, so at least when they grew up, I had an idea of what kind of, what was going on and that began to manifest itself. So you start to develop and create a more creating space and grace for these people who have it, to see how they flourish.  Uh, the greatest experiment that I had, that I'd never realized it was the thing after I left, after I started speaking up in the hospital, I started realizing these, these data problems that were demonstrating how hospitals didn't click the document effectively didn't do follow up correctly. Sometimes they had poor treatment plans, everything that carried over into the revenue cycle, which is where I really made money.  When I started showing them, nobody listened to me until I showed them that these core client poor care plans cost us money. And I took the data and I showed them exactly how much money. And then all of a sudden people started to listen. It's sad that it got down to that, that being right and being truthful was not actually got me, uh, you know, constigated, a lot of pejoratives, but but showing him where the money was is what eventually, while people to listen. Well, actually it makes a lot of sense because, I mean, I remember even when I was working in the .com boom, right, and then the social media boom, right? We, you know, these, these, these CEOs, they hire these 20 something year old kids to handle their social media, and they convince by how many likes you have, and how many followers have you got?  Okay, great, how does it translate to revenue, and they can’t answer, right, and they’re out on their ass.  It doesn't matter what industry it is. Money's going to move the needle. And so the smart people are figuring out ways to connect the dots. I did some, some work in neuro diversity for a huge, um, uh, uh, uh, fast food restaurant. fast food chain And, you know, they realized that people were coming in and looking at the menu and leaving and they couldn't figure out why. And I spent several days with them going to multiple restaurants. Guys, you have 200 items on the menu. it's,, it's digital display and ads are overlaying it, and I wanted to blow my brains out 30 seconds here. Right? Let's go to this other place down the street. oh look, hamburger, cheeseburger, fries, shake done, you know, and all of a sudden there's a problem that makes sense. There's revenue, right? So the second you apply anything to money. and look, Is that right or wrong? I don't know. But at the end of the day, if you understand how to work that system, everyone benefits. Right. So in that process and the gap between the time I was 42, I'm currently 56, I had to come up with mental processes, mathematical formulas. And one of those is called reduction. I had to take the thoughts that we think in naturally, and you and I have zero problems thinking up, I track everything you're saying, I track what you're thinking behind what you're saying, you know? So... but when we talk to a neurotypical, it's overwhelming.  They, they, they, they, they, it's just so fast and so furious that they can't follow. And a lot of times they don't want to follow it’s too overwhelming. So reduction means taking these complex thoughts and reducing them down to something…. somebody, something somebody can make a decision on. It's typically one, two or three points, that's it.  So reducing that menu down, is a perfect example of, uh, you know, allowing people to make a decision because you have to take, we have to think in the complex ways and everybody listening to this podcast does that, to translate back down to neurotypicals that you almost need a Rosetta Stone uh, breaking it back down to something they can assimilate and synthesize. That's actually a phenomenal, a phenomenal way to put it, exactly. Part of my work at the Neurodiversity Foundation, is cataloging how people think, Uh, I have been a guinea pig since the time I was a child, because as a child, even though I had a really high IQ, I really struggled in school, uh, and they, you know, what's wrong with your kid?  Why isn't he trying? And it got to ...so it  wasn't a problem. I was the first person in my grade...in my school to be able to read. And then, you know, when I was reading, you know, I was reading tech manuals, military tech manuals, and they're run, you know, I'm like, Hey, listen, let me know if you find something interesting. I love it. So, we want, there are people think differently and it's never been cataloged. These IQ tests they gave me, eventually, as they did, as they started giving me these tests, I started realizing as we got to the higher range of the score, I was, I was starting to realize in these patterns how they were trying to gauge my intellect.  And I was like, look, I can break it down for you that way, but I can break it down for you. these seven other ways are equally as valid, but you're trying to compartmentalize my thoughts and… Exactly. I call that... I call that the show your work mentality.  Oh my gosh.  it’s (indistinguishable) You know, I, I don't look at things like their grades or even their IQ. I mean, you have to look at the types of thought they're capable of. IQ tests are not even designed to measure divergent thought. They're designed to measure conversion/linear thought, like everybody else they're automatically prejudiced against us.  Even though we do exceptionally well, we still score higher, but it still doesn't capture our top end. Most of the great revolutions taken on were by neuro divergent individuals for,,, whether there's Isaac Newton, Albert Einstein, Steve Jobs, Bill Gates. These people of course are all they're all just like us. A perfect example was the, you know, the study on valedictorians,  Valedictorians are generalists. They know a little bit about everything and they know a lot about everything, but they don't really have a hyper fixation like we do. So if you're sitting out there and you're listening to this and you said, you know, whole lot about something, I don't care if it's logistics or supply chain or anything, you probably have answers that people need to know about., and that's why entrepreneurship is something that I try to lead people on because... we are the great entrepreneurs, but we need help if I didn't have, if I, you have to learn to surround yourself with people that can make a difference for you. And one thing that I didn't realize was I (indistinguishable) Uh, and we went on and we just, you know, I never took them.  I never borrowed $1. I took zero seed capital. I just started doing the math once the math was right. I knew I didn't need money. I just wanted to start doing the math for other people. I funded the entire company, which went on to be very successful, you know, making $20 million a year, things like that. Uh, literally on, on something I wrote up in a notebook one day and just started applying it into our data  When I presented it to the CEO, he literally cussed at me and threw me out of his office and told me I was crazy, and don't meddle in that department. The chairs that originally hired me overrode it and said, Sean, go do it anyway. I'll deal with you. You can't be fired. I'll go deal with it. After, when they originally filed those claims, we collected $126,000 when they filed my restructured claims, based on the math, we collected that we kept the $126,000. and got $500,000 additional revenue, and I never worked in that department, but the math led me to the truth. Right... data, data changes everything. but there are people out there, they have these degrees in data science, and then you get these certificates and things. There was no data science when we started doing it, why would I need a degree in data science?  This is a field that we created the neuro divergence out there, you know, just like cloud computing, all these buzzwords. We’re  usually doing it 10 years, 15 years before people ever even try, but we don't get credit for our work simply because it's not… categorized and cataloged by.... we are so far ahead of the curve, typically... we are entrepreneurs naturally. So, how do we parlay that into more success for individuals? And I'd love to answer any questions anybody has on how to go down that road.  I love that. I love that. Tell us how people can find you. Uh, the easiest way to find me. I'm on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/shawnfry/  on the Linkedin…. um, my email address, if you want to reach me for work, is Shawn, Shawn.fry@potentialworkforce.com  Uh, where we're leading a program that takes all neuro divergence, whether your autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and things like that. We're creating, we have contracts in place, our first client was Chevron, our second client was (indistinguishable)  so we, when we started telling people that neuro-divergence, this is not a nonprofit.  I do have a non-profit foundation, where we do all the research, but this is a for profit, you know why? Because we make money for people. We don't want sympathy. And there are people out there that were labeled us as abelists,  and things like that. I hate that, I reject that label. I know there are, there are people out there and listen... I work with people all across the spectrum, nonverbal, nonambulatory, I love them, they're all special people. I love them just as much, but we have, we have a resource that's there to harness, and we become exceptional employees.  Real quick… the first program we started... was my company, I had 150 employees, and when I went on to sell the company to private equity, these Wall Street, private equity firms, they look at everything. And one thing they asked me, he's like, Hey Shawn, where's your files? You know, the lawyers come in, where's your files on turnover. I was like, what do you mean? He's like, where are all the people that quit and you fired, and I was like, well, after 15 years, nobody ever quit. They're like what? I've never heard of that, I didn't even know it was a thing.  So what I did though, was I created a company that worked around my proclivities and inclinations and things like that. I built a company that was designed around me... around my neuro-diversity and my sensory issues. In fact, I don't like to be overwhelmed in meetings and I don't want meetings to last more than 30 minutes unless they absolutely have to.  And it turns out that that actually was conducive, not just for the neuro-diverse employees. And I include people in there with, uh, PTSD. There are other things that make you neuro-diverse people, even people with personality disorders, that don't have integrated brains,  still qualify under neurodiversity the way I define it.  I’m creating an environment that's safe for them, psychological safety being the first thing.  And the first thing I tell people, I invert every equation mathematically, and I reward people for telling me what's wrong for complaining or, you know, the faster you told me that you made a mistake, the more praise you get. And people started having psychological safety. What I recognized, is that their productivity multiplied.  Having that ability, because most of us have been told, slow down, shut up, sit still, you know, Shawn, this is a listen-meeting, not a talk meeting. Oh, yeah. I've heard that one too. I heard that one too. Awesome, we gotta have you back. This has been phenomenal. It's so nice to,... to hear what you're doing and I love the fact that you're doing it for all the right reasons.  You guys are listening to Shawn Fry, Shawn. really, thanks again, man. [Gottesblog] Requiescat in Potentia? by Larry Beane

Requiescat in Potentia? by Larry Beane “Peace be with you.” — JESUS (JOHN 20:19) “Perhaps they think that they will exercise power for the general good, but that is what all those with power have believed.  Power is evil in itself, regardless of who exercises it.” — LUDWIG VON MISES, *NATION, STATE, AND ECONOMY* "Rest in Power" has become a trendy slogan for Leftists in response to when someone, usually a celebrity, politician, or someone politically useful, dies.  This is, of course, a parody of the ancient Christian prayer and confession "May (he or she) rest in peace" (requiescat in pace) that is said when a believer dies. The Latin grammar of the expression "in pace" (ablative singular) expresses the idea that the believer is not merely headed towards the destination of peace (which would be the accusative case), but that the person is now at rest, already reaching the destination of "peace."  This is because when a believer dies, he or she is with Christ.  Thus “Rest in peace” is an explicitly Christian confession.  For in Christian theology, Jesus is the "Prince of Peace" (Isa 9:6) whose first word to the mourning disciples after His resurrection was "Peace be with you" (John 20:19).  Christians often speak of the Church on earth as the "Church militant" and the Church in heaven as the "Church triumphant."  A popular Christian hymn ("For All the Saints") speaks of the departed Christians as those who "from their labor rest."   To those who serve the religion of "social justice," a person's work is not ended at death.  He or she is not at rest.  For instead of heaven being found in eternity, it is sought in an unattainable Utopia here on earth: Karl Marx's communistic egalitarian paradise in which there is no scarcity, and thus no need for private property and trade, as articulated by John Lennon: "No need for greed and hunger, a brotherhood of man."  Of course, Mr. Lennon might today have his statues toppled and his photographs altered for microaggressive sexism and an unforgiveable failure to acknowledge the gender non-corforming community. And of course, this Marxist Utopia includes the dictum "and no religion too," for there is "no hell below us, above us only sky."  In the millenarian faith of "social justice," there is no afterlife, only the struggle to achieve heaven on earth.  And since there is no God, ultimately, there are no human beings created in the image of God.  There is rather a stark division between "good people" (who think like John Lennon and Karl Marx) and "bad people" - capitalists, conservatives, Christians, etc.  And in the worldview of the "good people," the "bad people" must either change, or be liquidated.   They may be changed by "education" - schools, government posters, movies, books, etc. designed specifically to push such a worldview.  For the dissident, there are consequences.  For the stubborn, there will be camps and prisons.  For the recalcitrant, there will be bullets.  And as technocracy enables, we can reward "good people" with liberty to work, travel, and own a few personal items (as Socialists make a distinction between "personal" property, which is allowed, and "private" property, which is not).  We can also, using a "social credit" system, exert power over people in which the iron fist is covered by a velvet app on the phone, one that constantly rates and scores people based on desired thoughts, words, and deeds - in order to make use of the power to control people to the desired end. In the fallen world, power is the manifestation of the internal wicked desire that St. Augustine called "libido dominandi" - the "lust for domination."  And every nightmarish dystopian civilization that ended up bringing "bad people" on boxcars to camps and stacking tens of millions of corpses into shallow graves has begun as a dreamy utopian vision in which "good people" would use power "for good." Hence "Rest in power." Wikipedia has an entry explaining that the expression "Rest in power" began in the early 21st century, and is mainly used by racialist and non-traditional sexual groups who hold a worldview that pits "the oppressors" against "the oppressed."  This is known as "critical theory" as espoused by the Frankfurt School - which is itself a modification of Marxism that replaces the clash between the proletariat and the bourgeoisie with a struggle between culturally dominant groups and the marginalized.  This is where the Orwellian ideas of "microaggressions" and "systemic" oppression come from, in which "privilege" is so prevalent, that the oppression seems non-existent - which is evidence for its existence.  To deny its existence is to affirm it.   Wikipedia also has an entry for "Rest in peace," which locates its origins with Christian tombs in catacombs during times of actual bloody persecution, in which Christians were physically tortured and killed by their Roman oppressors.  These were historically-verifiable genocidal mega-aggressions committed by those in power.  The actual systemic oppression of Christianity is manifest by the still extant bloodstains on the floor of the Coliseum and the stacks of bones in Christian tombs of the martyrs.  And so we see the contrast between "Rest in peace" and "Rest in power."  The two expressions are not compatible with each other. That said, Christians sometimes get caught up in the trendiness of the world, identifying more with their power-seeking friends on social media than their departed brothers and sisters of the faith who lived centuries ago, but who now are at rest in Christ. It speaks volumes that “Rest in power” is commonly used to mourn the death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who wielded considerable worldly power to empower the ongoing holocaust of infanticide in the United States. There is no clearer expression of power in the hands of fallen men than murdering tens of millions of those who are powerless. “Rest in power,” indeed. A review of the use of the word "power" in the New Testament is revealing.  It is always used in the context of the power of God.  Jesus says, "Peace be with you," never "power be with you."  By contrast, Jesus delegates His own "authority" to the newly ordained apostles, as He commissions them to "make disciples" by baptism and teaching (Matt 28:18-20).  God's power is paradoxically manifested in human weakness, as God revealed to St. Paul (1 Cor 12:9-10).  The only grant of power from God to individual human beings is in the context of the gift of the Holy Spirit, as Jesus said shortly before His ascension, speaking once again to the apostles: "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you..."  But notice what this power is used for: "...and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”  The grant of power from the Holy Spirit is intended for the purpose of converting the world to faith in Christ, through the ministry of Word and Sacrament.  There is no mention of political goals or the pursuit of a worldly Utopia. The risen body of Christ - given to us miraculously in the Eucharist, stands in stark contrast to the still-dead corpse of Lenin, which tourists gawk at, ghoulishly mummified in a shrine to Marxism in the capital of a Union that no longer exists.  Only one will return in glory.  Only one gives us the peace which the world cannot give (John 14:27). We see this contrast played out in the early church in Acts 4, when Peter and John were interrogated by the worldly powers about what power lies behind the apostles' miracles.  St. Peter was "filled with the Holy Spirit” (v. 8) and responded that the source of this power was the "name of Jesus Christ” (v. 10).  In the same chapter, we read that "with great power the apostles were giving their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all" (v. 33) thus fulfilling the prophecy of Jesus that by the power of the Holy Spirit, they would be His witnesses. By contrast, Romans 13 speaks of political and social order being kept by means of "authority" as opposed to "power."  Authority is delegated to those bearing an office through which God works.  Authority is not power.   Outside of the divine power given to the Church to preach the Gospel, human nature seeks power, and fallen men use power to bend the will of others to their own.  And while they couch this in pious-sounding terms, power appeals to the base nature of the Old Adam.  The most crass example in Scripture involves Simon Magus, who wanted to buy this power: "Now when Simon saw that the Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles' hands, he offered them money, saying, 'Give me this power also, so that anyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit'" (Acts 8:18-19).  Even when claiming to do good, wicked men use power to dominate others, as Ludwig von Mises put it succinctly, "Perhaps they think that they will exercise power for the general good, but that is what all those with power have believed.  Power is evil in itself, regardless of who exercises it."   "Rest in power" is not just a parody of the pious and ancient Christian prayer and confession linked to Jesus and the resurrection, it is a perversion of it.  It is used in conjunction with the deaths of people who had nothing to do with proclaiming the Gospel.  It is an attempt to use a person's memory to achieve a political goal instead of pondering the mystery of faith that Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again, comforting the mourning with the sure and certain hope of the resurrection, instead reducing the person to a mere cog in the wheel of a political agenda - and one that seeks to minimize or deny the role of creation and the Creator, one that seeks Utopia through domination, one that dehumanizes the person into an abstraction. For the unbeliever, such an expression is understandable, as what else does he have but a moldering body and a memory?  But to the Christian, this expression is an inexcusable blasphemy that mocks our Lord's benediction and promise: "Peace be with you."   The oppressed and marginalized early Christians understood this.  And though they preached the Word of God with power - divine power not of their own, sufficient to overthrow even Caesar himself within three centuries - they did not say anything as trite or silly or short-sighted as "Rest in power."  They understood that our victory is in Christ, that our paradise is in the heaven and earth to come, that the only power that is truly benevolent is the power of God, and that Jesus has restored peace to those who die in Him. May all of our departed brethren rest in peace.  Amen.

It’s never good to put the cart before the horse, but that’s exactly what many companies do when they dump new technology solutions onto their staff without really understanding their people and processes first. And you know what happens? Those super expensive technology products or systems fail. In this episode of Bottom Line IT, host Mike Maddox sits down with Jeff Sage who is the managing partner at Potentia LLC. His work focuses on, “taking the people, processes, and technology aspects of the business and putting it into one mechanism to improve how things are run.” Every company wants to be more efficient. But if you want to outfit your company with the right technology solutions to accelerate productivity, Jeff’s linear process might be the avenue to get you there. According to Jeff, you have to first understand your people—who does what for whom and why? Second, you need to understand your process—Are your systems and workflows reflective of how your company should be run? THEN, you leverage technology to help those two components run smoother and quicker. Not the other way around. And if you’re worried about your employees being resistant to change or not adapting well to new tech, Jeff offers some great insight inside the episode you won’t want to miss! Lecture 4: EPISTEMOLOGY, METHODOLOGY AND DUALISM; KNOWLEDGE, CERTAINTY, LOGICAL POSITIVISM Video Slides TRANSCRIPT The Social Theory of Hoppe, Lecture 4: Epistemology, Methodology, and Dualism; Knowledge, Certainty, Logical Positivism Stephan Kinsella Mises Academy, Aug. 1, 2011 00:00:01 STEPHAN KINSELLA: … and methodology and epistemological dualism, the Austrian approach.  So if you recall, last time we talked about argumentation ethics and libertarian rights, and as I said, the midterm will be posted shortly.  And some of you may be interested in the IP talk I gave at Mises University on Wednesday, which I have a link to here on the slide two.   And Hoppe also gave two – he has several lectures, but two of them are particularly relevant for tonight actually.  The science of human action and praxeology as a method of economics are both great.  They cover a lot of what we're going to talk about tonight, actually. 00:00:42 00:00:47 So we're going to talk epistemology and methodology and dualism, which are the Misesian approach, and related aspects of logical positivism and knowledge and certainty.  And I'm just going to outline here the readings I had suggested that you read with certain pages of A Theory of Socialism and Capitalism, Hoppe's pamphlet, “Economic Science and the Austrian Method.”  I have my ragged old copy here from years in the past.  I don't know what the current version looks like, notes, so this is my favorite copy, and another paper from EEPP and another journal article on rationalism. 00:01:25 And then there are some supplemental readings if you want to go further.  But we're going to try to cover as much as we can here.  So let's start off talking about what we're talking – the subject of our lecture is the economic science and the methodology appropriate economic science or the discipline of economics.  So what do we mean by the word science?  I mean when I was in college and growing up, the word science to me meant what most people think of it now as technology, gadgets, gizmos, physics, theories, chemistry, things like this, things that are testable. 00:02:01 This is actually sort of a fairly new twist on the word science as caused by the rise of positivism and empiricism and what we might call scientism.  It's a much older term of course.  You see the little diagram on the right of some spooky government agency, the Information Awareness Office, but they have the all-knowing eye on top of the pyramid looking at the earth and the motto, Scientia est Potentia, which means knowledge is power.  So you see the word science there, meaning just general knowledge.  In the Lionel Robbins, famous sort of proto-Austrian economist, at one point, wrote a treatise in 1932, very influential treatise until the ‘50s probably called “The Nature and Significance of Economic Science.” 00:02:57 So you can see the word science is being used for even economics, although nowadays, most people would restrict it to the technical or natural sciences.  Back in the US Constitution in 1789, in the clause authorizing patent and copyright, look at how the words are arranged here.  This is the power granted to Congress to promote the progress of science and the useful arts by securing for limited times to authors and inventors the exclusive right to their writings and discoveries. 00:03:30 So I've got in red here the words that pair together: science, authors, and writings.  Now, most people would think science has to do with inventions and inventors and discoveries.  But no,

Things are not going well for the Royals. They're stuck in a 4-16 nosedive that has fans angry, players pressing, and seats heating up. So what better way to get the anger out than to talk about it!? Troy and Michael fired up the podcast machine to talk about what's gone wrong, what's potentially going to happen next, and what we'd do. We discussed potential demotions and other moves, potential firings, and considered alternatives to current front office personnel. More specifically, we talked about Chris Getz at leadoff, Alex Gordon batting third, Johnny Giavotella taking balls at third base, Danny Duffy getting rehab innings and wondered just what the heck the Royals have to do to get a win around here. Turns out, the Royals went 4-14 since our last podcast recording. Maybe this show was just what the team needed. You should check it out.

"Scientia est Potentia"- Knowledge is Power. The Beast system is expanding it's powers all around the globe. Privacy is becoming a thing of the past as we are entering a time of fear due to terrorism. This is being manufactered by the so-called "elites" of the earth to ensure global dominance. The threat of terrorism has given them the protection of "plausible deniability" as they pass laws that legislate away freedom and privacy. The Book of Revelation has prophesied this. We will work to use the current laws to counteract this as long as possible, but God has a plan that is unfolding before our eyes and we must be prepared for what is to come. An unbelieving and fearful world will ask the question: "What do you have to hide?". How do we deal with this? What example did Christ set for us? Should we please God or man? What is our purpose in all this? TruthStream digs in and endeavors to shed light on these issues to provide you with real answers and direction that comes straight from the Word of God. You WILL face this system head-on. How you re-act to it will either be fear or courage. What will YOU do in the end? My hope is that this podcast will infuse you with courage and boldness so that you will fearlessly let your light shine, no matter what darkness might come.
