If you're a carnivalist that plays mas regularly, you've probably crossed paths with the Playmas platform at some point for costume registration. Rory Peters, their Sales and Operations Director, is one of the brains behind the scenes. Rory and I sat down virtually back in November '23 (I know, it's been a minute), but we recently met in Miami for an event we were both attending. This conversation was worth the wait, and we're happy to share it with you! Plus, who doesn't love a good UK accent? As a reminder, this season, we're all about peeling back the curtain and shining a spotlight on the folks and crews that make carnival magic happen. Rory shares his thoughts about the carnival scene, and of course educates us about Playmas, so buckle up and get ready to soak in the knowledge.P.s. since we recorded, Playmas has teamed up with AI Tix, another tech whiz crew. I was intrigued when I met their founder during my Miami escapades. I have a feeling that Mario will be gracing us with his presence on the podcast soon. Both AI Tix and Playmas are cooking up some seriously cool stuff to amp up our carnival game and keep us safe. I'm excited about this episode because I get to talk about the land of my life...the Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI). I finally touched down for the holidays after a two year hiatus thanks to Rona and all her viruses. Now that I have first-hand experience after my holiday travels home, I can successfully report back and give y'all the 411. My homegirl Juju and her sister Oby also visited around the same time, but they stayed in Provo which is the tourist hot-spot for TCI. I sent some survey questions to Juju and Oby after their trip, so you'll be hearing some of their quotes throughout the episode for some additional perspectives.Covered in this episode:Government Requirements for traveling to Turks & CaicosWhat to expect upon arrivalWhere to get a COVID test during your stayWhat to expect when departingThe benefits of visiting Grand TurkHelpful LinksTurks and Caicos Tourism Website View full list of requirements and FAQsApply for travel authorizationVisit TCI WebsiteYour go-to guide for all things Turks & CaicosFamily Care TCI (also known as EPIC)Schedule your COVID test for return travelOfficial T'ingz Nice Website: Episode 302For the full version of the show notes, complete with photos and restaurant insights from our guests Juju and Oby

Carnival season is dearly missed. Under normal circumstances, a bulk of the Caribbean carnival community would have been back home recuperating from a vibe-filled Trinidad carnival experience. BUT...that’s not the case in 2021. Instead, the Trinidad borders remain closed (for good reason), and the best we can do is listen to new soca music, wine in our abodes and relive the precious memories. I’m happy to start this carnival tabanca series off in Trinidad, with Ron...the man behind one of the most notable carnival groups on the Caribbean scene.Covered in this episode:Tips for traveling to St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands 1:08Tips for traveling to Aruba 05:27Sha’s Trinidad Carnival virgin story 09:45All about Limin’ Professionals: The Syndicate (LPTS) with Ron 14:41The highs and lows of planning a carnival tour group 32:45Ron’s top three Trinidad carnival fetes 39:00Tips for Trinidad carnival newbies 44:38Sha’s 5 ways to conquer Trinidad carnival 01:02:12If you’re ready to do a deep dive into my T&T adventures, HERE you will find every Trinidad-related piece I have ever created.
