The Hysteria team is off this week. But we're excited to bring you a recent episode of Assembly Required with Stacey Abrams. In the first 100 days of the Trump Administration, we've watched Republicans erode American democracy with alarming speed. While this political moment may feel unprecedented, it isn't new. America has dealt its share of far-right movements, fascist provocateurs, and anti-democratic threats. But time and again, heroes have risen to meet those moments. In this episode, Stacey unpacks how we've fought fascism before – and won. She's joined by the host of MSNBC's The Rachel Maddow Show and author of the #1 New York Times bestseller Prequel: An American Fight Against Fascism.Subscribe to Assembly Required wherever you get your podcasts and on YouTube. We live in a day when many believe that the gathering together in a building for worship is no longer necessary for Christians. They would rather connect via streaming when it is convenient for them. In today's episode, co-host Ryan Coonerty sits down with NewDEAL Alumna and former Georgia House Democratic Leader Stacey Abrams at the NewDEAL Forum's Annual Ideas Summit in Atlanta. Abrams reflects on how she drove progress on big issues as the minority leader in the Georgia House between 2011 and 2017. She talks about how to model values-based leadership and encourages listeners to do the same, developing concrete guiding principles around which to rally their work. In addition, she cautions leaders to listen and understand the roots of people's problems before jumping to policy solutions, and offers her perspective on tackling divisive, culture war topics by focusing on humanity rather than winning the argument. Tune in to this inspiring conversation to learn what keeps Stacey Abrams grounded during moments of political upheaval. IN THIS EPISODE: [1:05]: Introduction to today's episode featuring Stacey Abrams [2:40]: Abrams's podcast, “Assembly Required,” and how she stays grounded [5:30]: The questions state and local elected leaders should be asking ahead of the 2026 midterms [9:06]: How to turn society's needs into real policy solutions [13:12]: Beating social media algorithms to promote values-based leadership [17:19]: The values Abrams wants to see the Democratic Party embrace

[Original airdate: 2/13/24] Mary Danielsen chats with Carl Kerby about the American Church, in particular when it comes to worldviews. Every human has one, and they largely revolve around such weighty issues as, what is reality? What is a person? What happens when we die? What is the nature of right and wrong? Philosophers have undertaken the answers to those questions for centuries, and its safe to say everyone has grappled with these at some point. But in the church, the notion of "worldview" becomes much more narrow - and looking into the worldview of those who shepherd God's flock can be, in this age, a bit disappointing. What are the factors that determine a Christian worldview and whether those who lead God's people get it right, ie, live by every word? Pastors may not be responsible for the sins of a culture, but they do have the responsibility to lead God's people via truth that is not subjective. Download their free app - click here.

Introducing Crooked's newest podcast: Assembly Required with Stacey Abrams. The election is in the hands of Gen Z, a cohort of young Americans that's diverse, creative, and—often—skeptical. This episode at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Stacey is joined by Rep. Maxwell Frost, the first member of Gen Z to be elected to Congress, and influencer Haley Lickstein, a leading voice on civic engagement among young people, to talk about how they're working to get their peers involved. Be sure to subscribe to Assembly Required with Stacey Abrams on your favorite podcast platform, or on YouTube for the video version, and be sure to join Stacey next week as she continues to break down the issues and build up the solutions.
Tuesday night's DNC turned into a raucous celebration as delegates from each state showed off their local pride while casting their votes for Vice President Kamala Harris. Former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama headlined the night's speeches, capping an exciting night for the party. But to win in November, Democrats will need to mobilize voters while also combating a slate of new voter suppression policies enacted by Republicans since the 2020 election. Stacey Abrams, a former Georgia lawmaker and voting rights activist — and host of the new Crooked podcast ‘Assembly Required' — joins us from the DNC to talk about the voting rights fight ahead. Meanwhile, DNC organizers granted more than 200 content creators and influencers special access to the convention this year. Their presence speaks to the power of social media in the world of political messaging, especially with young voters. And it's a power that the Democratic Party is eager to tap into in these final few months before the election. Victoria Hammett, deputy director for Gen-Z for Change, talks about the content that resonates with young voters. Donald Trump suggests that Kamala Harris isn't actually Black, claims that nobody died on January 6, and belittles his interviewers before his campaign yanks him off the stage at the National Association of Black Journalists convention. Jon Lovett and guest host Stacey Abrams react to the train wreck in real time. Stacey describes the scene at Kamala Harris's big rally in Atlanta on Tuesday and offers her takes on the JD Vance disaster and how Harris should defend herself from right-wing attacks.
