Good podcasts are part of an ecosystem of ideas that have the potential to change the world - to shift us into the new system we so badly need. For a long time, Farmerama Radio has been at the leading, radical edge where food, farming and activism meet. In the early days, it was all about fostering the voices of grassroots, small-scale farming with monthly episodes featuring stories from the field. Then, in 2019, the co-founders, Abby Rose and Jo Barratt worked with Katie Revell to produce their first in-depth series Cereal, which looked at the process of creating bread, from seed to loaf. It was a huge hit, and building off the success of Cereal – which won two Guild of Food Writers Awards – they went on to produce several more series, including their most downloaded, Landed, a powerful exploration of land ownership and colonial legacy in Scotland. In April of this year, Farmerama launched a new project Cereal Revisited, looking at the real-world impact of their podcast, and how Farmerama's stories helped listeners take action, both big and small. This is a story of Thrutopia in action and we are really delighted to welcome one of the co-founders, Abby Rose to this podcast. Abby continues to lead the podcast today (the team is all women) and is both a farmer and soil health advocate. She was named one of 50 New Radicals by The Guardian and Nesta in 2018 for her work developing simple apps that help build ecology, profitability and beauty on farms around the world, and then in 2020, she was named in Code Hospitality's Top 100 Influential Women in Hospitality. Farmerama Radio itself was named Best Investigative Work and Best Food Podcast at the Guild of Food Writers Awards 2020 and won Best Environment and Natural World podcast at the Independent Podcast Awards 2024. What if the future of plastics doesn't start in a lab, but in a design studio? In this episode of Plastic. Climate. Future., we speak with Beat Karrer, founder of FluidSolids, who took an unconventional path from industrial design into material innovation — developing high-performance materials made entirely from waste streams. From corn cobs to coffee waste, his work challenges a fundamental assumption: that plastics must come from fossil resources. We explore:How waste streams can become high-performance material feedstockWhy design thinking is a powerful (and often overlooked) driver of material innovationWhat it takes to scale new materials — from pilot to industrial productionWhy circularity depends on systems, not just materialsA refreshing and grounded perspective on what it really takes to rethink plastics, not just replace them.
What happens when a lifelong friendship meets a shared frustration with broken systems? Mike Ranfone and Dr. Marko Lujic did something most people only talk about — they actually built the gym-medical hybrid model that the health and fitness industry has been circling around for years. In this episode, Dr. Lujic opens up about the moment he realized he wasn't practicing healthcare — he was practicing sick care — and how that wake-up call led him and Mike to launch RTS Health in Hampton, Connecticut. Together, they walk us through their full client experience: from DEXA scans and comprehensive biomarker labs to concierge medicine, personalized training, and registered dietitian support — all under one roof for around $1,000/month. They also get real about why collaboration beats territorialism, why most people are "majoring in the minors" when it comes to longevity, and what it actually takes to build a business model at the intersection of fitness and functional medicine. If you've ever felt like the fitness and medical worlds should be talking to each other but aren't — this episode is for you. Episode Takeaways:
Guest Dr. Steven Quay, author "The Code of Witness", joins to discuss the latest in the MAHA movement. President Trump kicks off the weekend with the announcement of bombings in Iran. What does the future of the Middle East look like? How is artificial intelligence being used in the NFL today? In this solo episode of Shifting Schools, Tricia Friedman explores how AI is already shaping professional football, with a special focus on Super Bowl Sunday. Rather than speculation, this episode looks at concrete, current examples of how AI is influencing advertising, predictions, player safety, and fan experience. Get the free conversation guide to share with friends and family: https://open.substack.com/pub/k12aileadershipbrief/p/five-signals-of-change?utm_campaign=post-expanded-share&utm_medium=web This episode is designed as a conversation resource for educators, families, and anyone gathering around the Super Bowl, offering five clear lenses for discussing AI's role in sports and society. What role does AI play in Super Bowl commercials? Major brands, including OpenAI, are now using the Super Bowl to tell stories about AI itself, while many non-AI companies are using generative tools to shape persuasive advertising. Tricia invites listeners to compare past and present Super Bowl ads and consider how the rise of AI-driven storytelling may change the creative skills schools should prioritize. What is the AI Influence Index and why does it matter? For the first time, startup Emberos is tracking which Super Bowl ads are most visible inside large language models during the game. Instead of asking people at the watercooler which ads were memorable, this index asks which brands "win" inside AI systems like ChatGPT. Can AI really predict Super Bowl winners? Recent reporting from USA Today and CNET shows how generative AI models are being used to forecast playoff outcomes, Super Bowl scores, and even halftime show cameos. As these models improve, Tricia raises questions about how fans may rethink expertise, intuition, and luck in sports forecasting, and whether some fans will resist consulting AI altogether. Why this episode matters for educators and families This conversation goes beyond football. It models how adults can talk with one another about AI's influence in everyday life, notice differing attitudes toward technology, and ask longer-term questions about which changes are likely to last over the next decade. Key discussion questions listeners can use on Super Bowl Sunday – Does AI enhance or diminish creativity in advertising? – Should brands optimize for human memory or AI visibility? – If AI predictions outperform humans, how does that change our view of expertise? – Where should decision-making authority sit when AI informs player safety? – Does AI-driven commentary deepen or reduce the joy of debate in sports? What if opioid withdrawal could visibly ease in 20 minutes and cravings could drop to near zero within days? We sit down with Net Recovery CEO Joe Winston to unpack a wearable neuromodulation device, FDA-cleared for managing opioid withdrawal, that adapts to real-world drug trends and may restore a person's ability to choose. Joe traces an unexpected journey from aerospace and AI to building a handheld system that translates complex waveform expertise into accessible care—and shares how rigorous trials and peer-reviewed data convinced skeptics. We dive into how the device works: gel electrodes behind the ears deliver patterned stimulation that dynamically shifts based on daily assessments of opioid, sedative, and stimulant withdrawal. As supplies change—think xylazine-adulterated fentanyl or emerging veterinary sedatives—the team retools waveforms to meet the moment. The results are striking: measurable relief within an hour, average treatment of three to four days, and early evidence that many patients reduce use of opioids and psychostimulants for months post-treatment, even without medication. That renewed agency becomes the catalyst for aftercare, longer residential stays, and more consistent engagement.Access and scale matter as much as science. We explore delivery in jails where Medicaid interruptions worsen withdrawal, residential programs, and new office-based addiction treatment designed for privacy and minimal life disruption. We also tackle safety and harm reduction—falling tolerance raises overdose risk if someone returns to old doses—and clarify patterns of lapse versus relapse observed in follow-ups. Beyond clinics, Joe lays out a bold public-health vision: statewide jail deployments measured against overdoses, all-cause mortality, and re-arrest. It's a practical, humane plan to meet people where they are and move addiction care forward with data, transparency, and stories of real recovery. If this conversation resonates, follow the show, share it with a colleague, and leave a quick rating. License to Change – The Future of Spy Movies explores the spy genre and why it now faces its greatest challenge yet. In this in-depth episode from Cracking the Code of Spy Movies, Dan and Tom examine whether traditional espionage storytelling can survive in a world defined by surveillance, data, and artificial intelligence. For more than sixty years, spy movies have taught audiences what espionage is supposed to look like: tailored tuxedos, exotic locations, ingenious gadgets, and clear-cut heroes and villains. From Dr. No through decades of James Bond dominance, spy films reassured audiences that control was possible in an unstable world. But as License to Change – The Future of Spy Movies makes clear, that fantasy no longer reflects reality. This episode traces the genre back to its Cold War roots, when fear, secrecy, and global tension shaped early spy cinema. It contrasts the glamorous escapism of Bond with darker, more realistic counterpoints like The Spy Who Came in from the Cold, The Ipcress File, and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. The discussion then moves to the seismic shift caused by The Bourne Identity, which introduced vulnerability, moral ambiguity, and institutional distrust into mainstream spy films. From there, the focus turns to modern espionage itself. Today's intelligence battles are fought with algorithms, metadata, drones, and predictive systems rather than pistols and car chases. The episode asks hard questions about how spy movies can dramatize invisible threats, system-based villains, and a world where privacy may no longer exist. It also explores how artificial intelligence, automated decision-making, and situational ethics are reshaping both real intelligence work and its cinematic portrayal. Finally, Dan and Tom look ahead. Who gets to be a spy in the future? What happens when access matters more than authority? And can James Bond remain relevant in an era where secrecy is nearly impossible? They argue that the genre's future will be darker, smarter, and more emotionally complex—less about winning clean victories and more about living with the consequences. This episode is essential listening for fans of James Bond, spy thrillers, modern cinema, and anyone curious about where espionage storytelling is headed next. Tell us what you think about our look at The Future of Spy Movies Finally, do you agree with our assessment here? Where do you see spy movies going? Climate Solutions for the Ocean are urgently needed as warming seas, biodiversity loss, and ecosystem collapse accelerate faster than most people realize, and one of the most powerful tools may be hiding just beneath the waves. In this episode, Andrew Lewin sits down with Scott Bohachyk, Director of Seaforestation at Ocean Wise, to explore how kelp forests function as underwater life support systems for the ocean, supporting fisheries, stabilizing coastlines, and helping ecosystems recover from climate stress. Kelp forests have declined by up to 50 percent globally, with some regions losing more than 90 percent of their kelp after marine heatwaves and ecosystem imbalances. Scott explains how Ocean Wise is actively restoring kelp forests in British Columbia through hands-on seaforestation, partnerships with First Nations, innovative nursery techniques, and standardized monitoring that tracks biodiversity recovery and ecosystem health over time. One of the most surprising insights from this conversation is that kelp restoration is not primarily about carbon credits or climate hype. Instead, the real win comes from rebuilding biodiversity and ecosystem resilience, with climate benefits becoming a powerful bonus rather than the sole goal. This shift in perspective reframes how we think about climate solutions and what truly works in the ocean. In two weeks, millions of Americans will be voting — but a Supreme Court case could change elections as we know them. Last week, the court heard arguments in Louisiana vs. Callais, a case that centers on Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act. Basically, the court is deciding whether or not states can use race to draw voting maps — and depending on what it decides, it could give Republicans the ability to eliminate at least six majority-minority districts and land about a dozen more seats in the House of Representatives. So we spoke to Stacey Abrams about the court's deliberations. She's the Host of Crooked Media's Assembly Required and a New York Times Bestselling Author. Living in a period increasingly fraught by various crises and risks, it is more necessary than ever to be able to metabolize anxiety into something useful. But what about at a cultural level? The behaviors that the current economic superstructure rewards cannot form the basis of what emerges from its ashes…we require new ways of thinking and living that put us in closer relationship to one another and the planet around us. In a system structured to serve as a dissipative structure, how do we plant the seeds of something that is more resilient and cooperative? In this week's Frankly, Nate addresses how we, as humans, might adapt and take on characteristics that will allow us to face the coming challenges of our world head-on. Through a framework of “cultural mitochondria,” Nate explores 10 traits that will help to shape the way we move through and address the human predicament. These are not far off ideals to think about once, then forget about. These are behaviors that require deep and regular practice, perhaps one of the most important tasks of our time. How can we become more grounded and regulated in our bodies in order to become agents of change? What does it mean to metabolize grief into resilience and action? And how do we expand empathy and humility for one another as we grapple with increasingly isolating conditions? Prayer is so important because it allows us to delight in God's presence, discern His heart, and depend on His power. But prayer is so powerful because it actually directs God's hand. When we pray, prayer moves our heart and will to align with God's heart and will. But it also moves God's hand to directly interfere into the affairs of humanity. And yet few of us actually believe this. Some of us fall into the trap of fatalism, falsely believing God has already set the future and our prayers won't actually change anything. Others of us fall into the trap of naturalism, falsely believing that prayer is less important than action. But throughout the scriptures, God does change his mind in response to his peoples' prayers. In Exodus 32, after receiving the 10 Commandments, Moses prays on behalf of the Israelites and God relents. In 2 Kings 6, Elisha prays for the eyes of his servant to be opened to the reality of God's power through prayer. If you track the theme of prayer throughout the biblical story, one thing becomes abundantly clear: prayer moves the hand of God to action. It's our prayers, usually on behalf of others, by which God advances His Kingdom to push back the darkness in the world around us. Put simply, God responds when we pray. By praying bold prayers that just might move God's hand to action, we practice turning our inward-focused minds, hearts, and bodies into outward-acting agents of God's kingdom.

Right now, in parts of the world, people with albinism are targeted for their body parts—fueled by superstition and a lucrative black market trade. Artificial intelligence tools for musicians are getting eerily good, very fast. Their work can be maddening, funny, ethically dubious, and downright fascinating all at the same time. TV and podcast composer Mark Henry Phillips joins to describe his experience working with them. We talk about the job of modern music composition; why he's worried AI might eventually do much of his current job; the morass of AI copyright law; and the ethics of creative ownership. But above all, Mark gets my brain whirring about the nature of creativity—how great new ideas, like songs, come to be in the first place. The line between stealing and inspiration in artistic history has always been blurry. Picasso famously said: “Good artists copy, great artists steal.” And that is not just a memorable quote. Many of my favorite musicians were famous borrowers, to put it lightly. Some of Led Zeppelin's most famous songs—such as "Whole Lotta Love"—were such obvious lifts that, after years of court cases, the band agreed to add the plaintiff to the song credits. But analogies to music and art history also fall short to capture the weirdness of this moment. Neither Picasso nor Jimmy Page had access to an external technology whose deliberate function was to slurp up musical elements from millions of songs, store their essence in silicon memory, and serve them up in a kind of synthetic stir fry on an order-by-order basis. Musicians have been writing music with partners for decades, even centuries. What happens to music when that partner is a machine: Will it open up new horizons in songwriting and composition? Or in a sad way, will super-intelligence make the future of music more average than ever? While cleaning up your closet can clear your mind, cleaning up your cellular habitat can change your life. This week, I'm joined by Dr. David Haase, who specializes in integrative holistic medicine and is the founder of the Maxwell Clinic in Tennessee. We sat down to discuss neurofeedback, diagnosing head injuries, and how plasma exchange (aka "an oil change" for cells) can help optimize your brain health and enhance your well-being in the long run. In this episode, you'll discover: The Science of Brain Injuries: "When the brain gets injured, the blood vessels get damaged… You no longer have the amount of vascular supply to the neurons," says Dr. Haase, adding that around 80% of people suffer from a "meaningful head injury." Fortunately, an isolated injury doesn't necessarily mean your entire brain is hurt. "One area of the brain getting injured may not come out as a deficit, but you have decreased your brain ability to be maximally resilient and maximally efficient." This is where neurofeedback comes in. What Is Neurofeedback: "Neurofeedback is a way of retraining the brain to be more electrically efficient," says Dr. Haase. This brain training, which involves measuring the electricity coming off your scalp, shows how your brain reacts to certain stimuli. This feedback can help train the brain to adjust its learning pattern naturally, thus improving focus, mood, migraines, and seizures. "If the brain gets more efficient, everything else can start to improve," he adds. Why Habitat-Optimizing Plasma Exchange Is a Game Changer: Dr. Haase is a pioneer of Habitat-Optimizing Plasma Exchange (HOPE), an intravenous treatment that cleans and replaces your plasma to improve your cellular habitat. "This process of 'oil change' for the blood decreases the rate at which Alzheimer's proceeds by over 60%," he says of the highly individualized method. "It is the single most powerful single therapy, especially for moderate Alzheimer's disease that exists." 05:46 The Role of Brain Function in Health 15:44 Understanding Neurofeedback 24:06 Diagnosing Brain Injuries and Their Impact 28:25 The HOPE Program and Cellular Health 30:23 Understanding Toxins and Nutrient Deficiencies 30:35 Aphoresis: The Oil Change for the Body 32:12 Mechanism of Action: Optimizing the Habitat 33:55 Clinical Applications and Success Stories 36:16 Procedure Details and Safety Measures 37:33 Plasma Exchange for Various Conditions 50:39 Insurance and Cost Considerations Connect with Dr. Myers: Website: https://www.amymyersmd.com/ Newsletter: https://www.amymyersmd.com/ec/guide-to-leaky-gut Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/AmyMyersMD Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/amymyersmd/ Connect with Dr. Haase: Website: https://maxwellclinic.com/ Phone number of the Maxwell Clinic: (615) 3700091 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/maxwellclinic/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/maxwellclinic YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQq0FWvHt95ItFuVvpfMvbA X (formerly Twitter): https://twitter.com/maxwellclinic Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/davidhaasemd/

He's chronicled some of the funniest and most disturbing errors made by current tools like ChatGPT, calling out the many costs – both human and environmental – of an industry that continues to accrete money and power. In his new book “Taming Silicon Valley: How We Can Ensure That AI Works for Us,” Marcus lays out his vision for a responsible path forward. Marketplace's Meghan McCarty Carino spoke to Marcus about that path and how it may be further out of reach, though not impossible, given the results of this year's presidential election.

The nature of war is changing. $10 million tanks in Ukraine are being disabled by $10,000 drones — and many cutting-edge battlefield technologies today come from private companies rather than governments. Few people know more about harnessing commercial tech for the military than Raj Shah, who led the Pentagon's Defense Innovation Unit before founding his own venture capital firm. Now he's on the board of the NATO Innovation Fund. On the show today, he speaks with POLITICO deputy tech editor Daniella Cheslow to talk about how to translate leading technology to the battlefield. You have the power to change your future, but do you believe it? In this sermon, Pastor Allen Jackson reminds us of who God is and what He is capable of doing. When we choose to align ourselves with God and follow His direction for our lives, we gain access to His power, wisdom, understanding, and grace—and that changes everything. Pastor Allen discusses the life of Ahab, a king who was so ungodly that 1 Kings 25 tells us, “There was none who sold himself to do what was evil in the sight of the LORD like Ahab.” Ahab repented of his sinful ways after receiving a prophetic message from Elijah. God turned Ahab's heart back to Him, and He can do the same in any heart today. Pastor Allen offers a powerful Psalm we can pray over our lives to invite the Holy Spirit to help us repent and forgive so we can draw closer to God and seek Him more fully. The school choice movement is having a moment again. Charter schools and voucher programs have been around for decades, but the Covid-19 pandemic has created another explosion in popularity for the choice movement. And since the pandemic, a slew of Republican-led states have passed choice policy aimed increasing access to other choice options. But does the choice movement come at the expense of public schools? Cara Fitzpatrick, author of the new book The Death of Public School: How Conservatives Won the War Over Education in America, joins Weeds host Jonquilyn Hill to discuss the origins of the school choice movement, how Covid shook everything up, and if public schools can survive this political moment.
