MONSTER PARTY WANTS TO DECK YOU IN YOUR HALLS! JAMES GONIS, SHAWN SHERIDAN, LARRY STROTHE, and MATT WEINHOLD invite you once again to experience a series of cage matches in our audio octagon. But this time, these fights of fancy have a seasonal sting! Can your headphone-bruised cauliflower ears stand the Christmassy carnage that is… WHO WOULD WIN? VOL. 8: THE WINTER EDITION!!! If this is your first time attending a WHO WOULD WIN? event, the rules are quite simple: We choose horror/sci-fi/fantasy characters to enter a room, stage a fictitious battle for their lives and debate who would leave the victor. It's pretty much the type of game you used to play in the schoolyard, only this one doesn't leave you with dodgeball-induced internal injuries. We've done many of these episodes in the past, and they're always a ton of fun. But for this round, we decided that the timing necessitated a winter twist. We're including at least one character from a holiday-themed film, TV show, book, or legend for each of our fictional bouts. Expect an exotic range of fruitcake-fueled fighters plucked from Star Wars, Rankin Bass, Disney Animation, The Peanuts, The Twilight Zone, cult horror, holiday folklore, and more! Who will win? Who will lose? And how do you get elf blood out of a carpet? Joining us to cheer on these winter wonderland warriors, is a return guest who is also a MONSTER PARTY benefactor! He's a RONDO AWARD-WINNING writer, producer, actor, host, podcaster, and voice artist, who also happens to be the founder of BIF! BANG POW! TOYS! So, if you are a PATREON member who has ever ordered merch, you probably own something he helped create. Please welcome back the non-stop delight that is… JASON LENZI! (POD STALLIONS, PLASTIC SOUL: THE ENTERTAINMENT EARTH POP CULTURE SHOW, A DISTURBANCE IN THE FORCE, IN SEARCH OF TOMORROW, LIFE AFTER FLASH, CANNONBALL, BANDS REUNITED, BEAT THE GEEKS) YOU GOT TO FIGHT! FOR YOUR RIGHT! FOR HOLLY!!!!

Following up on their 2018 their "Ascension" album, the band return with 'Say You Love Me', the lead single from their new album, the second installmentof their Orchestral Hits opus. 'String Theory' includes 11 new recordings of some of their classic hits and fan favorites. The 'Say You Love Me' single comes with a eight different versions, remixes and a music video. The track is full to the brim of soaring strings, uplifting grooves and widescreen scope. Mikes positive message in the vocals knitting the new recording together with aplomb. Remixes are both of the 80s style "extended" variety and also newly reproduced versions, with Soda Pimps offering a electronic diversion on the track. A Flock Of Seagulls may well be known for their bizarrely teased haircuts as much as their hit single "I Ran". A Flock Of Seagulls were one of prime movers in the 80's new wave era. Growing out of the synth-heavy and ruthlessly stylish new romantic movement. Hairdresser Mike Score (lead vocals, keyboards) formed A Flock Of Seagulls with his brother Ali (drums) and fellow hairdresser Frank Maudsley (bass) in 1980, adding guitarist Paul Reynolds several months later.. "Telecommunication" became an underground hit in Euro-disco and new wave clubs. The band signed a major-label contract with Jive by the end of the year, and their eponymous debut album appeared in the spring of 1982. "I Ran (So Far Away)" was released as the first single from the album, and MTV quickly picked up on its icily attractive video, which featured long shots of Mike Score and his distinctive, cascading hair. The single climbed into the American Top Ten, taking the album along with it. In the UK, "I Ran" didn't make the Top 40, but "Wishing (If I Had a Photograph of You)" reached number ten later that year; in America, that single became a Top 40 hit in 1983, after "Space Age Love Song" peaked at number 30. "Wishing" was taken from the group's second album "Listen" in 1983. The band released 1984's "The Story of A Young Heart" which fielded the hit "The More You Live, The More You Love". A Flock Of Seagulls are famous for their music but also famous for their references in popular culture from TV (Ross's Haircut in Friends), Computer Games ("I Ran" was the standout track on Grand Theft Auto Radio), Film (The band and haircut are referenced in Pulp Fiction, X-Men and The Wedding Singer) . This cemented the bands reputation and brought the band to a whole new legion of fans. In 2003, the original line-up of Mike, Ali, Frank and Paul reunited for a one-off performance on the VH1 series Bands Reunited. In September 2004, they reformed again and did a brief tour in the United States. From 2004 to 2021 Mike was as busy as ever touring the band around the world. In 2018 the band appeared on record together for their "Ascension" album. The original members all appear on record together for 'String Theory'.

New Wave band Berlin has gone through multiple incarnations during its four-decade tenure, seeing members – including lead singer Terri Nunn – come and go over the years. After Nunn rejoined the band in 1980, the underground success of Berlin's second single led to their debut EP, Pleasure Victim, which spawned the national hit “Sex (I'm A...)” in 1982, followed by “The Metro” the following year. The band's music would go on to be iconic, thanks to the massive success of the Giorgio Moroder written and produced song, “Take My Breath Away,” featured on the soundtrack to the 1986 action film, Top Gun. That song would go on to win both a Golden Globe and an Academy Award for Best Original Song, and has come to the band's defining cut. The band would break up in 1987, and while Nunn would reform the band–sans any other original members–in the late '90s, it wasn't until an episode of VH1's Bands Reunited in 2004 that the group's founding players would get together. However, just last year, fellow founding members John Crawford (bass and synthesizer) and David Diamond (synthesizer and guitar) reunited with Nunn once again for the band's Transcendance album. Now, Berlin–with Crawford, Diamond, and Nunn–release Strings Attached, a re-imagining of many of the band's best-known songs with the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. That album is out this Friday from August Day, and it was a real joy to hop on the phone with Nunn to discuss the band's catalog, the new album, and performing once again with Crawford and Diamond.

When people talk about alternative rock band Dramarama, what you'll often hear is that they were "before their time." Though they came to prominence in the mid-80s, their aggressive, but melodic power pop sound was a perfect precursor for the garagey 90s. Through the help of tastemaker Rodney Bingenheimer, the band exploded out of LA in 1985 with "Anything Anything" that set records and still kills. The band released quality work for a decade before eventually calling it quits. Bassist and founding member Chris Carter turned his attention to radio and has been the host of Breakfast With The Beatles, the longest running Beatles radio show, for decades now. He also produced the Rodney doc The Mayor of Sunset Strip. We talk about the history of Dramarama, including the real story behind their appearance on VH1's Bands Reunited, but then we also go deep on the Beatles with Chris answering loads of listener questions. It's a little bit of everything in this one, all of it good! http://www.breakfastwiththebeatles.com/
I catch up with Aamer Haleem, host of VH1's Bands Reunited. The show was one of my favorites featured on the former music channel. The podcast had the pleasure of interviewing band members who were featured on the show like The English Beat, Information Society, The Motels, and Haircut 100. Aamer talks about his experiences filming the show and which bands were his favorites. He also reveals which other bands were on the list to be reunited.

In our second interview, drummer Kofi Baker talks about The Music Of Cream 50th Anniversary World Tour, paying homage to the band and the music, 'balls-to-the-wall' jamming, his playing styles compared to his father's, making a new studio and or live album, keeping the music of 'our family' going, Eric Clapton, and much more. Our final interview is with GUNS N' ROSES's DIZZY REED. Topics include new music, Not In This Lifetime Tour, a live album, AC/DC, why it took so long to get the album out, Richard Fortus, playing the Chinese Democracy songs live, the Troubadour show, Steven Adler and more. This week, join Jonathan as he waxes philosophic about the role of nostalgia in a corporation’s ability to re-sell already-paid for content. Then, he connects this idea to the use of reality TV to do so in a really unecessary and demeaning way – Vh1’s Bands Reunited (2004-2006). Then be sure to stop back two […]
One of the nicest people that we've interviewed over the past 2+ years was Jan Kuehnemund, founder of all-female hard rock band Vixen. While Jan's guitar skills and physical beauty provided her with a powerful 1-2 punch in the music industry, those things were overshadowed when you actually talked to her. Jan's dedication, integrity, and drive helped propel her and Vixen to stardom in the late 1980's. Those qualities also served her well through the many lean years that followed. All of this is what makes this week's episode so difficult for us. Jan Kuehnemund passed away last Friday October 10th, 2013 after a long battle with cancer. We interviewed Jan in late February of 2012 and uploaded the episode on March 2nd, 2012. The process of interviewing Jan was a true pleasure. She was forthcoming, funny, intriguing, and patient in giving us knuckleheads in Nashville an hour of her time to yack about rock music and her life in it. We could have just gone ahead and dedicated this week's episode to Jan and proceeded with a new theme. But, Jan really left an impression on us and Aaron and I still have good memories of talking to her. The Decibel Geek podcast has really grown since April of 2012 (83 episodes ago!) and we couldn't think of a more fitting tribute to Jan than to give you all a replay of our conversation. In this talk, she talks about the early days of bringing Vixen from Minnesota to Los Angeles, their struggles to be taken seriously, and their rise to fame. She also details the difficult days of the 1990's, acrimony among band members and the beginning of reconciliation with the girls for VH1's Bands Reunited series. She also shares touring memories of working with such acts and Deep Purple and KISS. While the war stories are interesting and entertaining, we hope you will take from this talk what we did; Jan Kuehnemund was a thoughtful, caring, and beautiful spirit that will most definitely be missed. Rock in Peace Jan. Your music lives on. - Chris Czynszak
