#PoweredByREMS
There's a lot of advice about traveling to Iceland, and not all of it is helpful. In this podcast episode, I'm breaking down five common Iceland travel myths that end up quietly costing travelers time, money, and energy. From unrealistic expectations about weather to misunderstandings around driving and seasons, this episode will help you spot the assumptions that derail trips before they even begin. The 5 Iceland Travel Myths That Mislead Visitors Myth 1: “Iceland is always freezing cold” Iceland has a reputation for being brutally cold, but that's not actually true year-round — or even most of the time. Thanks to the Gulf Stream, temperatures are often milder than people expect, especially along the coast. The bigger challenge for travelers is usually wind and changing weather, not extreme cold. When people assume “freezing,” they often overpack or misunderstand what conditions they're really preparing for. Myth 2: “You need extreme winter clothing” Many travelers assume they need expedition-level gear just to survive Iceland, which leads to overpacking and overspending. In reality, what matters most is layering properly, not wearing the heaviest gear possible. Waterproof and windproof layers are far more important than bulky items. Dressing smartly, not excessively, makes travel easier, more comfortable, and more flexible. Myth 3: “Winter driving is too dangerous for tourists” Winter driving in Iceland isn't automatically dangerous, but it does require preparation and realistic expectations. Many visitors drive safely every winter by choosing appropriate vehicles, monitoring weather forecasts, and adjusting their plans when needed. Conditions vary significantly by region and day, which is why flexibility and local awareness matter more than fear. The real risk comes from underestimating the conditions, not from driving itself. Myth 4: “It's completely dark in Iceland during winter” While daylight hours are shorter in winter, Iceland is not in total darkness. Even around the winter solstice, there are several hours of daylight, including long twilight periods. Many travelers are surprised by how usable the day still feels — especially when plans are adjusted to match daylight windows. Understanding how daylight actually works makes winter travel far less intimidating. Myth 5: “You can only see the Northern Lights in winter” Winter is the most popular season for Northern Lights viewing, but it's not the only time they appear. The aurora can be visible in late fall and early spring as well — whenever skies are dark enough and solar activity cooperates. The key factors are darkness, clear skies, and patience, not just the season itself. This myth often causes people to unnecessarily limit their travel options. The Real Issue: Assumptions, Not Bad Decisions Most Iceland travel mistakes aren't about bad decisions, they're about bad assumptions. When travelers rely on oversimplified advice or viral content, they often plan trips that don't match reality. Once those assumptions are corrected, Iceland becomes far easier and more enjoyable to explore. Plan Iceland With Clarity, Not Guesswork If you're planning a trip to Iceland and feeling overwhelmed by conflicting information, I want to invite you to my Live Iceland Trip Planning Workshop happening on January 31st, 2026. It's the first workshop of the year and is especially helpful if you're planning a trip for 2026 or beyond and want a strong head start. This is a live, interactive workshop where I walk you through how to plan your trip realistically — from driving distances and timing, to choosing the right season, and building an itinerary that actually works. You'll also be able to ask me your questions in real time, which is honestly one of the most valuable parts. I also do a giveaway at the end of the workshop, including Iceland-related prizes. One of those prizes is a one-on-one video trip consultation with me, which is usually fully booked since I only open a few slots each year. If you want clarity, confidence, and a solid plan instead of stress, you can find all the details and sign up using the link in the show notes or here

Hartman erläutert, was qualitatives Wachstum wirklich bedeutet. Profilingvalues Mediathek: https://podcast.profilingvalues.com Buch Freiheit zu leben von Robert S. It's Monday, January 5th, 2026 – Happy New Year and welcome to the Winter Edition of Hills Review -- the High School East Student Podcast. Here's a preview of the podcasts you will hear this week. The new school phone ban is a controversial topic throughout the state. While many are against it, there are many positives that even some students will acknowledge. On Tuesday, Abigail Smawley looks at how this new law benefits those it aims to protect. Randy Rhoads, who passed away in a tragic plane accident in 1982, was one of the best guitar players of all time. Although his career only lasted a decade, he cemented his place in rock and roll history by forming the band Quiet Riot in 1973, and later by joining Ozzy Osbourne on his first two solo records. On Wednesday, Syon Sharma talks to Kelly Rhoads, Randy's sister, about the achievements of her brother and what it takes to keep his legacy alive. Fairy tales are not just stories – they are magical works of art that can shape children's understanding of the world. While some may be a little too intense or scary, fairy tales trigger cognition in young minds and allow for intense thinking skills at an early age. On Thursday, Marisa Dominic explains why every child should experience these stories. Whether you're watching TV, listening to a sports podcast, or on social media, there's a good chance you'll notice the increase in talk about women's basketball. What was once unnoticed by many is now a major player in the world of sports. On Friday, Layla Marie Greaves looks at the recent rise of women's professional and college basketball, and how this rise is positively impacting the younger generation. To wrap up today's podcast, Meital Kun examines cancel culture and how this practice both damages the exploration of ideas and endangers freedom of speech. Hills Review is produced by members of the Podcasting and Filmmaking Club. If you are interested in becoming a contributor, see Mr. Beatty in room 216. If you like this podcast – please tell one friend about it. Word of mouth is the best way to get more people listening to our show. Thanks for listening, stay warm, and have a great week.

Movies may have a lot of us believing that Italy is perpetually warm and sunny, existing in a summer-time golden hour, but don't be fooled, it gets cold! Winter in Italy can be brutal, at least for a girl from the southern US (that's me). In this episode we'll talk about what the locals wear in Italy from North to South and how to pack for a winter vacation in Italy. As we have repeated throughout this mini series: you do not need to buy a whole new wardrobe for your Italy trip, and whatever you own is perfectly fine! All of our tips on what to wear are to help you feel like you're blending in with Italians and Italian life, however what's most important is that you wear what you feel comfortable in! MONSTER PARTY WANTS TO DECK YOU IN YOUR HALLS! JAMES GONIS, SHAWN SHERIDAN, LARRY STROTHE, and MATT WEINHOLD invite you once again to experience a series of cage matches in our audio octagon. But this time, these fights of fancy have a seasonal sting! Can your headphone-bruised cauliflower ears stand the Christmassy carnage that is… WHO WOULD WIN? VOL. 8: THE WINTER EDITION!!! If this is your first time attending a WHO WOULD WIN? event, the rules are quite simple: We choose horror/sci-fi/fantasy characters to enter a room, stage a fictitious battle for their lives and debate who would leave the victor. It's pretty much the type of game you used to play in the schoolyard, only this one doesn't leave you with dodgeball-induced internal injuries. We've done many of these episodes in the past, and they're always a ton of fun. But for this round, we decided that the timing necessitated a winter twist. We're including at least one character from a holiday-themed film, TV show, book, or legend for each of our fictional bouts. Expect an exotic range of fruitcake-fueled fighters plucked from Star Wars, Rankin Bass, Disney Animation, The Peanuts, The Twilight Zone, cult horror, holiday folklore, and more! Who will win? Who will lose? And how do you get elf blood out of a carpet? Joining us to cheer on these winter wonderland warriors, is a return guest who is also a MONSTER PARTY benefactor! He's a RONDO AWARD-WINNING writer, producer, actor, host, podcaster, and voice artist, who also happens to be the founder of BIF! BANG POW! TOYS! So, if you are a PATREON member who has ever ordered merch, you probably own something he helped create. Please welcome back the non-stop delight that is… JASON LENZI! (POD STALLIONS, PLASTIC SOUL: THE ENTERTAINMENT EARTH POP CULTURE SHOW, A DISTURBANCE IN THE FORCE, IN SEARCH OF TOMORROW, LIFE AFTER FLASH, CANNONBALL, BANDS REUNITED, BEAT THE GEEKS) YOU GOT TO FIGHT! FOR YOUR RIGHT! FOR HOLLY!!!!

There is something magical about the night sky and the winter woods; a place of dreams and possibility; a place of rest and restoration. In today's episode of Our Mindful Nature, nature field recordist Nick McMahan shares a dreamscape from Glacier National Park. Not quite a guided meditation, not quite a sleep-story, but rather a meditative experience. A connection to both land and self. Perfect for relaxing before bed, taking a mid-day break, or adding some wintery vibes to your day. You will hear cool wind blowing from the north towards the Eastern Rocky Mountains; the first snow dusting its peaks. Nick weaves a story of dream-images and real-life exploration of this landscape: “Silently, I watch the dense night sky as a calm breeze washes over me, cresting like a wave through the nearby aspens. On a clear night in a remote corner of the Rockies, deep in grizzly country, I see a countless sea of stars overhead, shimmering as brightly as I've ever seen. Reaching into my pocket, I grab my small pair of backpacking binoculars for a closer look.”Grab your headphones, a cup of something warm, and settle in by the fire. Rest your feet.Rest your mind.Rest your heart.Join us for a night under the stars in Glacier National Park. The nature sounds in this episode were recorded in the Eastern Rocky Mountains near the Blackfeet Indian Reservation. The Blackfeet people have lived in the Rocky Mountain region for over 10,000 years and were the first people to hear the sounds of the winter wind blowing in from the north in this region.Sign up for my newsletter at https://merylarnett.substack.com/ to receive free mini meditations each week, creative musings, and more.Thank you to Nick McMahan for today's episode including narration, nature field recordings, sound design, and editing; and thank you to Brianna Nielsen for production and editing support.
