Marques Houston had an interview on Uncensored on TV One and tried to justify his wife's age by saying he's young at heart and she and he have a spiritual connection and that women his age have kids and baggage he didn't want to deal with. When you hear the word “Neanderthal,” you probably picture a mindless, clumsy brute. It's often used as an insult — even by our president, who last year called anti-maskers “Neanderthals.” But what if we have more in common with our ancestral cousins than we think? On this week's On the Media, hear how these early humans have been unfairly maligned in science and in popular culture. 1. John Hawks [@johnhawks], professor of anthropology at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, on our biological family tree—and the complicated branch that is Neanderthals. Listen. 2. Rebecca Wragg Sykes [@LeMoustier], archeologist and author of Kindred: Neanderthal Life, Love, Death and Art, on and what we know about how they lived. Listen. 3. Clive Finlayson [@CliveFinlayson], Director, Chief Scientist, and Curator of the Gibraltar National Museum, on how studying what's inside Gorham and Vanguard caves can help reconstruct Neanderthal life beyond them. Mike Score is Lead Vocalist, Rhythm Guitarist and a founder member of the band, A Flock of Seagulls. The band was one of the most influential of the 1980's and has shaped much of today's electronic music. Mike was a hairdresser in Liverpool until in 1978, when he formed his first band. When this disbanded, he founded A Flock of Seagulls, with his brother Ali Score(Drums), Paul Reynolds (Lead Guitar) and Frank Maudsley (Bass). Mike was now vocalist and played keyboard, guitar and this new line up began relentlessly playing in local bars and venues. This paid off, as they eventually got rewarded with a record contract. Mike brought the band a unique New Romantic style, infusing futuristic notes through pioneering work with synthesisers, experimental vocal tones and space age costumes to create their eccentric image. Mike was also best known for his signature, trademark haircut. Their self-titled debut album, ‘A Flock of Seagulls', was released in 1982. The album received a lot of attention, and achieved international success. Their follow up album, ‘Listen', was released in 1983, and the band went on to an extensive world wide touring regime, playing shows alongside bands like The Psychedelic Furs, The Cars, The Police and The Fixx. The eventually drifted apart and band broke up, following mixed reviews of their subsequent albums, ‘The Story of a Young Heart' and ‘Dream Come True'. When he decided to reform the band again in 1988, the other members declined to join him. Score performed and toured A Flock of Seagulls with an alternative line up. In 1995 he released the album ‘The Light at the End of the World' which unfortunately did not perform very well commercially, and saw the band fall away again for a while.. In 2013, Score indicated that he had started a solo career and planned to release a solo album followed. These plans were delayed by the theft of the van containing Score's equipment, clothing and hard drives with the album tracks on. On 1 March 2014, Score released ‘Zeebratta', his first studio album. It was announced in 2018, that the original four members of the band would come together to record a new album, featuring the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. The album ‘Ascension' followed, and was to be their first studio recording since 1984. They got together again for another album, ‘Inflight (The Extended Essentials)', this time reworking their original hits from the 1980's, but once again this reunion was short lived. Mike Score is currently working on various solo projects, and he still tours and performs regularly with his band, spending time in both Liverpool and Florida. This episode originally aired on Jan. 10th, 2017 Steve Cooper talks with singer Mike Score. Mike formed A Flock Of Seagulls with his brother Ali in Liverpool in 1979. By 1981, with the addition of Frank Maudsley and Paul (Reno) Reynolds, the classic line up was complete. With being the first band signed to Jive Records and (BeBop Deluxe guitarist) Bill Nelson and (Gong bassist, OMD and Teardrop Explodes producer) Mike Howlett at the production helm the third single, I Ran from A Flock of Seagulls' 1982 eponymous debut, became a worldwide hit charting at number 1 in Australia and Top 10 in the US. The album achieved similar acclaim, winning a Best Rock Instrumental Grammy Award for the song D.N.A.. More success, including the UK Top Ten smash Wishing (If I Had A Photograph Of You) from their second album Listen in 1983 and The More You Live, the More You Love from 1984's The Story of a Young Heart followed as they became one of the darlings of MTV. Unfortunately, personnel problems forced the original band members apart in 1986. Since then he continues taking a current Seagulls line up on the road and is working on his second solo album. Following up on their 2018 their "Ascension" album, the band return with 'Say You Love Me', the lead single from their new album, the second installmentof their Orchestral Hits opus. 'String Theory' includes 11 new recordings of some of their classic hits and fan favorites. The 'Say You Love Me' single comes with a eight different versions, remixes and a music video. The track is full to the brim of soaring strings, uplifting grooves and widescreen scope. Mikes positive message in the vocals knitting the new recording together with aplomb. Remixes are both of the 80s style "extended" variety and also newly reproduced versions, with Soda Pimps offering a electronic diversion on the track. A Flock Of Seagulls may well be known for their bizarrely teased haircuts as much as their hit single "I Ran". A Flock Of Seagulls were one of prime movers in the 80's new wave era. Growing out of the synth-heavy and ruthlessly stylish new romantic movement. Hairdresser Mike Score (lead vocals, keyboards) formed A Flock Of Seagulls with his brother Ali (drums) and fellow hairdresser Frank Maudsley (bass) in 1980, adding guitarist Paul Reynolds several months later.. "Telecommunication" became an underground hit in Euro-disco and new wave clubs. The band signed a major-label contract with Jive by the end of the year, and their eponymous debut album appeared in the spring of 1982. "I Ran (So Far Away)" was released as the first single from the album, and MTV quickly picked up on its icily attractive video, which featured long shots of Mike Score and his distinctive, cascading hair. The single climbed into the American Top Ten, taking the album along with it. In the UK, "I Ran" didn't make the Top 40, but "Wishing (If I Had a Photograph of You)" reached number ten later that year; in America, that single became a Top 40 hit in 1983, after "Space Age Love Song" peaked at number 30. "Wishing" was taken from the group's second album "Listen" in 1983. The band released 1984's "The Story of A Young Heart" which fielded the hit "The More You Live, The More You Love". A Flock Of Seagulls are famous for their music but also famous for their references in popular culture from TV (Ross's Haircut in Friends), Computer Games ("I Ran" was the standout track on Grand Theft Auto Radio), Film (The band and haircut are referenced in Pulp Fiction, X-Men and The Wedding Singer) . This cemented the bands reputation and brought the band to a whole new legion of fans. In 2003, the original line-up of Mike, Ali, Frank and Paul reunited for a one-off performance on the VH1 series Bands Reunited. In September 2004, they reformed again and did a brief tour in the United States. From 2004 to 2021 Mike was as busy as ever touring the band around the world. In 2018 the band appeared on record together for their "Ascension" album. The original members all appear on record together for 'String Theory'.

“Heart Of Gold” by Neil Young is his only #1 hit, a song that was recorded in just two takes with an assembly of artists in Nashville including James Taylor and Linda Rondstadt on backing vocals. It is a song that stands the test of time, written for the Harvest album when Young was just 26 years old, and its lyrics open a window into the enigmatic inner workings of one of rock's greatest songwriters. Steve Cooper talks with singer Mike Score.

Join us this week as we welcome country music singer songwriter, Casey Weston. Casey is recognized as one of the young stars whose combination of talent, personality and charisma helped launch the hit television show The Voice. While on the voice Casey was called “little Stevie Nicks” by pop music star Cee Lo Green; lauded by country music star Blake Shelton and told she was a musical “Bad Ass destined to be a star” by her coach and mentor Adam Levine. Casey has written, produced and released two albums; a self-titled release at the end of 2009 with 10 tracks and the second at the end of February of 2013; a 13 track album called Find the Moon. Both albums contain music & lyrics that Casey wrote or co-wrote. Both albums are available through iTunes, CD Baby and other popular digital & physical music distribution outlets. In 2015 Casey is releasing the single Fallin for a Lie, and then her next full album, Young Heart. Casey may be young but her work ethic and performance experience help her project a welcome balance of youthful energy and a road-tested touring musician and performer. We will talk to Casey about her upcoming schedule, get a behind the scenes look at her music, feature her latest songs, and ask her to share her message for the troops. Please be sure to visit Casey Weston at http://caseyweston.com/ and spread the word. Fans are welcome to call in and speak live with Casey during the show (718) 766-4193. Tangent? Whoever heard of a tangent? Certainly not GleeKast, who brings you disciplined coverage of Asian F...until their Special Guest Star Gwyneth Pal--er, Slug shows up and chaos reigns with more furor than a Von Trier flick. The trio discuss everything from The Karate Kid Part III to Will Shuester’s taste in porn. Then Emily discovers she has the ability to wishmaster stuff and gets really distracted. So distracted that her irresponsible wishmastering leads to technical difficulties that threaten a good 90 minutes of group rambling. Three days later, the trio reunites in SkypeLand to finish off defining tiger moms and debating the healthiness of Mercedes’ relationship with her in no way healthy boyfriend/Snuffalufagus/forum/Durden. Trust us, it will all make sense two hours from now. In the meantime, there’s the link Ashlee sent us from someone who hates Glee:http://nerdgasmnoire.wordpress.com/2011/10/04/why-is-glee-so-addicted-to-failure/ and you should share your thoughts on it at palavr.com. There’s the videotorial shared with us by Wayne here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p72UqyVPj54 in which a chick declares war on Beyonce. And most touchingly (and educationally), here’s the superior cover of Fix You from Young@Heart, complete with Spanish subtitles because Emily wishmastered it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W_n0zvoHlVkWe’ll be on a brief hiatus along with Glee, but keep your ears out for a Very Special And Long Ago Teased commentary episode and stay in touch at gleekast@gmail.com and the palavr.com forums. Also check outSlug over at the Slugcast, which you can find right on yonder: http://www.slugcast.com/ Just don’t throw salt on it because that’s cruel and gross. Sickos. Keep up that attitude and we’ll wishmaster you all the way back to The Season That Didn’t Happen. Remember: you don’t even know what we’re talking about.
