School Shootings, Bombing Syria and Governors giving up their seats of power, it's all in a normal week for one Donald J. Trump and for the Q staff to dissect.  First up, Jason Kull and Producer Bobby slip back into the seats of producer and co-host to help Mark break down all the fun.  But it's the school shooting that opens the eyes of Mark and the team to where they are eventually gonna go with the show. A Murder-Suicide takes the life of a teacher and 8 year old student in San Bernadino and this raises the the good ole 2nd Amendment question in the eyes of everyone on the show.  Everyone but Bobby, which triggers the most morbid episode of the Q possible.  Bobby brings up the validity of the school shootings before he breaks down the door of crazy things that happen on the internet. This leads to a discussion of death and suicides on the internet that are filmed and the guys discuss all of it. After that, it's Super Syria time as the boys discuss our friend of the show, Donald J .Trump decided to throw down the proverbial gauntlet and let the  world know that after he tells people in need they aren't welcome, he'll be the first to kill their eventual killers...but only after those people are already dead and can't benefit from Trump at all.  All this and much more on the Q!

This is an update on our earlier podcast detailing the situation between Apple and the FBI. As you’ll recall, Apple rejected a judge's order to help the FBI hack into the iPhone of one of the San Bernardino shooters, calling the action "an overreach by the U.S. government.” The FBI had now dropped its case against Apple, claiming they were able to successfully break into the phone. LA Times just reported Apple wants the FBI to reveal how they hacked into the San Bernadino phone but so far the FBI hasn't said how they did it or who they hired for help, though the consensus is it was the Israeli cybersecurity firm, Cellebrite.  "One way or another, Apple needs to figure out the details," said Justin Olsson, product counsel at security software maker AVG Technologies. "The responsible thing for the government to do is privately disclose the vulnerability to Apple so they can continue hardening security on their devices.” “There is very little debate that it is in everyone’s best interest that Apple find out about this vulnerability and everyone should be asking why that is not the case,” said Alex Rice, chief technology officer at San Francisco security company HackerOne. Does Apple have a right to know how the FBI broke into the phone? Tune-in and find out!  

Apple is thus far rejecting a judge's order to help the FBI hack into the iPhone of one of the San Bernardino shooters, calling the action "an overreach by the U.S. government." A public letter released February 16th from Apple CEO Tim Cook warns that building "a backdoor to the iPhone" would open not just the phone but also a Pandora's box that would be "something we consider too dangerous to create." The order is that Apple enter Passcodes by cable/PC, disable the wipe-after-10-tries feature, remove the timeout between attempts, and somehow install the software to make this possible onto a locked iPhone 5C. The question is: if Apple can be ordered to install something on any locked phone what else can they be ordered to install? And what other countries could order Apple to install the same "Master Key"? China? Russia? And once it's known that Apple possesses this capability, mightn't it then be misused by anyone (including any foreign government) that knows—or can figure out—how to exploit it?

Today I talk with filmmaker Greg Barker, who won an Emmy for his HBO documentary MANHUNT: THE UNTOLD STORY BEHIND THE HUNT FOR BIN LADEN, about his new film for HBO called HOMEGROWN: THE COUNTER-TERRORISM DILEMMA.  In his latest project, he explores the threat of "self-radicalizing" terrorists right here in America through the eyes of the Deputy Directors of the National Counter Terrorism Center and the FBI's National Security Branch, as well as the family members of the Ft. Hood shooter and other U.S. citizens convicted of providing "material support to terrorism."   We talk about the film and the many aspects of the issue of homegrown terrorism including domestic surveillance, 1st Amendment rights, the availability of jihadi propaganda online, and the need for U.S. Muslims to take a more proactive role in combating that propaganda and saving young Muslim-American men from the influence of groups like Al Qaeda and ISIS.   Greg Barker's film HOMEGROWN: THE COUNTERTERRORISM DILEMMA premieres Monday, February 8 at 9PM EST on HBO.
