This movie is why I will never have kids.
This week's pick is the 1981 killer kid horror flick Bloody Birthday. As their 10th birthday approaches, three children, born prematurely during a complete solar eclipse, turn murderous. Guest JR (JR's Spooky Shack) joins us to discuss the film, be disappointed in Bill for losing his connection twice during the recording, and agreeing to be the daughter in our My 2 Dads reboot.
Prepare to have your spine tingled by The WacArnold's Brothers! David and Jared sit down every episode to talk and laugh through some low-key horror movie classics. This episode we celebrate a killer birthday- Bloody Birthday from the year 1981. Like/Follow/Share @oldheartradio (iTunes, Spotify, Instagram) Follow on Twitter @oldheartinspace GET IT ON!
We're avoiding hugs this week, maniacs, as we dive into the 1980 toxic waste PSA that is The Children. Bringing us this weird slice of 80s horror are the hosts of Drive-In Asylum, Bill Van Ryn and Sam Panico. While we dissect the flick, we also discuss topics such as standard procedure for dealing with abandoned buses, old-time industry nicknames that sound like giallo film titles, and apple routes. And in true crossover fashion, Sam shares a movie-related cocktail recipe towards the end of the episode! Drop that Caramello and check out our Patreon! We resurrected an old bonus favorite and put together a mixtape draft of songs from teen comedy movies. We talked about this one during our YouTube days. Excited to share this one with you another Ed Hunt classic. 1981's Bloody Birthday. Picked this one because Mutant City Horror's number one fan Daryl; sat in on it and it was so close to his birthday. The timing was perfect. However; we didn't even talk about Julie Brown, being part of the cast who's in things like Clueless and Earth Girls Are Easy.

In this episode, after spending two films nostalgically looking back to the golden age of slashers Jason has decided to take us back to the heart of that era with his pick. Amid a flood of slasher sequels and imitators, join us as we check out Edward Hunt's Bloody Birthday from 1981. Dustin weighs the effectiveness of the scenes with children committing murder contrasted to the film's lack of gore. Jason champions the film for its unique qualities where it decides to break from the conventional slasher formula. But before all that, it's the nail in the coffin on the Muckverse as Jason weighs in his final thoughts on Kill Her Goats. And so much more! Have you seen Bloody Birthday? No? Were you or any of your kids born during a poor visual effects eclipse? Yes? OK, this is the movie for you. Before things start to get real, let's discuss your options because the killing is about to get f'n bananas. We watched Bloody Birthday, played the heck out of some Final Girl and had a blast. Watch the movie first, then we'll catch you on the flip side.
If ever I needed a reason not to have children… BLOODY BIRTHDAY is a nasty little 1980s slasher involving three kids born during a lunar eclipse. The strange phenomenon leaves them without a conscience, enabling them to commit vicious acts of violence purely for the thrill it gives them. Features appearances by Lori Lethin (star of THE PREY and RETURN TO HORROR HIGH), as well as comiedienne Julie Brown, star of MTV's “Just Say Julie” and EARTH GIRLS ARE EASY. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/blindragepod/message
It's our party and we'll die if we want to, maniacs! This week's episode drops on the eve of Gregg's birthday, so what better movie to discuss than the J. Lee Thompson slasher Happy Birthday To Me. I'm back and more needlessly verbose than ever before! I claimed Bloody Birthday, “the lost episode,” as my triumphant return, but I was merely presenting a commentary track recorded almost 2 years ago. With Dead Dudes in the House, I'm back with something brand new! The track was recorded over this year's Memorial Day weekend and believe it or not, there's no outside debauchery in the recording (although, that might've made for a more compelling episode). This time around, I share the usual stories (my initial reaction to the film, how it's managed to stay with me all these years, the litany of alternative titles, etc.). I also share a lot of inside information on the original production provided by none other than James Riffel, writer/director. We've been Facebook buddies for a few years (although I'm sure if you asked, he'd probably say he's never spoken to me in his life, just like everyone else) and one night I decided I'd just pick his brain (poor choice of words, especially after you've seen the film) about all things Dead Dudes. James was about as cordial, kind, and humble as we all hope our heroes to be. He spent a large amount of time discussing filming locations, what the house is being used for these days, where the title came from, and some information on an early draft of the script. Sadly, I'm not able to find the original correspondence, which is just as well, as I doubt he'd appreciate my reposting it here. This was some years back, before I'd even started the blog, and saw no reason to even jot down a few notes. I may have forgotten many of the specifics, but a number of anecdotes have stayed with me. Everything I could remember, I share during the commentary. As always, it's imperative that we're in sync. Now, when I uploaded the DVD to my PC (using the edition included in Toxie's Triple B-Header as my source), the standard “Lloyd Kauffman and Michael Herz Present...” seen in every Troma release, was not included in the file. Why? I can only assume the intro was included as an isolated file when the disc was pressed. Have no fear. If you're watching the film here on YouTube or through some other streaming service, you need only start the commentary immediately after Troma's opening (which would be 14 seconds in) to remain in sync. If you're watching the film on DVD, same thing. If you're not watching the movie at all and listening to the commentary for the sole purpose of my wretched voice, then you have my deepest sympathies. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/blindragepod/message
