I found a post on FB from someone new and I connected with it right away. It's from Sam Demma and he shares something that one of his high school teachers shared with him that is very relevant for all of us to connect with. “Small consistent actions” were the three words that his teacher shared with him. The question he asked the class was “what do these people have in common?” He had written many famous people's names on the board before this. These words are not only meant for famous people. They are meant for all of us. Again, the clip that I'm sharing shares this story much easier than I ever could. Check it out HERE. Thanks for listening. I came across something that really hit home for me. This post from Gary Hensel (@gary_hensel) reminded me that “Somebody didn't wake up today, but you did. That's enough reason to stop complaining, and that's enough to be thankful for. Never let your troubles blind you to your daily blessings.” Recently I went to a funeral service for a longtime family friend, finding out a former student of mine recently passed away and most recently a neighbor and good friends of ours - lost a family member very quickly. I know it happens every day and that it is a true part of life. But, I needed a reminder about the “me complaining” part. Many times I lose sight of the reality of life and what others are going through. I think that empathy is a skill for all of us to keep working on, once again this really goes for most of our “leaders” in our country today for sure. Thanks for listening. This was the post that I spoke about from Friday's show and it comes from Greg Berge (@gb1121) where he shares his video from an NBA legend, Doug Collins. “Too many kids today are afraid of failure.” Doug Collins reminds us that “Failure isn't the end. It's the lesson. It's how you grow, learn, and get tougher. Every champion has failed; they just refused to stay there.” Now of course it hits differently hearing the clip instead of me just talking about it or reading the quotes. The big motivating factor from this lesson is that since we all fail, every single one of us, many times a day - this should fire us up to see the opportunities we have to grow, learn, improve, etc., every single day! I know that I need to hear this lesson again as I tend to forget the chances I have to really improve myself and my life, whenever failure hits. Another big truth… This is not just for kids. I was reading my “Daily Reader” from John Maxwell on my Kindle app, and yesterday's lesson was about making failure your best friend. I love how easy he puts part of this. John mentions “When you are able to learn from any bad experience and thereby turn it into a good experience, you make a major transition in life. For years I've taught something that I think gives useful insight on the subject of change: People change when they… Hurt enough that they have to, Learn enough that they want to, and Receive enough that they are able to.” Thinking about these true statements got me thinking not only about myself in each of those three, but also the fact that others are there too. I want to focus on helping others to receive more encouragement to help them get through the first two parts. Another thought from John Maxwell, where he picked up this from Jim Rohn: “Don't let your learning lead to knowledge; let your learning lead to action.” Hey, don't get me wrong, knowledge is great - but what do we do with that knowledge? Those ideas? Those thoughts? Putting them into action is the key and when that action leads to us getting better, along with helping others to get better too, well that is a great place to be. I know I need to continue putting more action into my life and looking to make a difference in the lives of others. I found another clip that I wanted to share, but I'll save that for Monday. I found this from Ball is Psych (@BallisPsych) and it's a great reminder for all of us in life and I know it's something I need to keep working on for sure. “You are in control of your life. There are four things you can control every day of your life: attitude, work ethic, how you treat others and how you treat yourself.” — Pat Summitt. Coach Summit was right… We do have some things that we can control and for me, it's something that I need to focus on. I'm starting to get some ideas for my word of the year for 2026 and it's going to be connected to Intentional. My attitude needs work on for sure, every single day! My work ethic is something to still improve, even though I'm not “working” every day anymore. How I treat others?? Wow.. that's one for sure that I need to improve upon… always! The last one, how I treat myself, well that one has been on my “to do list” for a very long time. I see that all of these are connected to living my best life, so once again I'm up for the challenge to keep getting better. Thanks for listening. I found a new connection to things that can help me have better days, think better, do things better, get more fired up, etc. This thought came from Words of Wise | Mindset Coach (@Wordofwise_) and they shared this: “Stop being afraid of what could go wrong, and start to be excited about what could go right!” Wow!! Did I need this reminder! Little things this past weekend (and truthfully many days) pointed towards the fact of me focusing on things that I hope don't happen. Things that could go wrong have been eating up many of my “resources” and it's about time I choose to spend / invest those resources (my energy, thoughts, actions, emotions, etc.) on the things that can go right! Found an eye-opening post from Mind Essentials (@Mind_Essentials) where a quote from Denzel Washington was shared that said this: “Always be thankful for the bad things in life. They open your eyes to see the good things you weren't paying attention to before.” Again, it's not that I want bad things to happen to me just so I can learn lessons. It's a reminder to have my eyes open more often than just when bad things happen. It's how I respond when things get tossed at me and remember gratitude is something to have all the time. Talk about a great gameplan to always be motivated about!! Thanks for listening. This is a powerful connection to a former student that recently passed away and it's something I know I want to keep working on having in my life. The thought comes from Motivational Quotes (@motivational) where this truth was shared: “Be good to people. You will be remembered more for your kindness than any other level of success you could possibly attain.” So many of the posts that I saw from others about this student all had kindness being a part of what they remembered about him. Thinking back to the times I got to work with him and his classmates (more than 25 years ago), there were a lot of laughs, many great talks we had, but most importantly - I do remember looking back on those times and witnessing this students' kindness towards others. Thinking back to this - it's amazing that he was such a great example for so many others and that so many of those people paid attention to pick that important lesson up. Once again, something the world needs more of and I know I need to keep trying to be one of those people that shows kindness as the gift that it is. Thanks for listening. I found a post from Kylie Riordan (@mindfulheal) that connected to my good friend, Dr. Jeff Lip. This quote is one of many that Jeff shared with my students when he spoke to my classes over the years. It's one he believes in strongly and so do I. The quote is from Pablo Picasso who said, “The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away.” When we can do this - and we focus on helping others, making a difference for others - that is a very rich life! Once again, the world needs people to connect with this quote more and more now. We all have gifts. Keep seeking yours and then give it away while serving others with that gift. Thanks for listening. I heard a report from Brad Galli (@bradgalli) who is the sports director at our ABC affiliate here in Detroit (@WXYZDetroit) and he did an interview with the Detroit Lions head coach, Dan Campbell and this answer that Coach Campbell shared with Brad - was amazing. It's so amazing that I wanted to share the audio with you to help you see how maybe a gritty football coach can help all of us with things going on in our lives. Focusing on the moment a bit more and tying it into our passions and those people that we love and that we can help, that's a recipe for some good things to happen. I see his posts just about every day and every one of them gets me thinking. This one (as I share from him again), I hope gets you thinking too. You see, we all have excuses in our lives as to why we don't do more, become better, try something new, finish something, etc., and Coach Ray Ostrowski (@CoachRayO3313) reminds us this about those excuses: “Contrary to what many believe and practice, you can NEVER ‘excuse' your way out of a situation. You can go from failure to success, but never excuses. End your excuses and over time, correct your outcome.” Now, those were his thoughts on this quote he shared: “You can't excuse your way out - you can only adjust your way out. You can go from failure to success, but you can't go from excuses to success.” ~ John Maxwell. “Drop the excuses if you truly want to change your results.” This was talking right to me of course as I have way too many excuses in my life and throughout my history, that have all gotten in the way of me being my best version of myself. I'm going to keep working on this for sure. No other choice. How about you? Thanks for listening. Found some powerful and emotional connections recently that I wanted to share with you. First came a post from Gratitude HQ (@gratefuledu64) where we are reminded to “be the reason why people believe in beautiful souls, kind hearts, and good energy. Never stop being a good person.” This is something I think the world needs now more than ever! This is also connected to @JOLearyInspires and a recent podcast (found HERE) where we are reminded about giving ourselves permission to keep learning and growing while we seek and find our purpose in life. Part of that purpose should be to be good and do good for others. The movie - “Soul on Fire” has this message too. Go and see this movie with people you love! Finally, Mitch Albom and his most recent book, “Twice” is another item that I've assigned as homework for you (it's the teacher in me, sorry) and it's amazing lessons - one of which is to always look and try to be better in our lives!! Powerful episode here for me - sorry for the blubbering all over the place as I connected this message to traveling up to the university where I first met my wife 40 years ago!! Also, a breakfast together with classmates from my high school. Visiting my parents recently and spending some time with them. Finally and sadly, a former student of mine passed away and not only did it get me thinking about him - the fun times working with him in my classes, the conversations we had, the laughter that went along with it - but also working with his older brother too in my class and working with his mom and knowing the family. The impact this student made on his classmates and our school community, timeless lessons. It got me thinking of other former students that have passed away, along with former coworkers too and the huge message from all of this - I am a better person for having met all of them!! I hope you have that too in your life. Thanks for listening. I came across a post from UpSkillYourLife (@UpSkillYourLife) and it floored me as to the truth of this statement. “Reading an hour a day is only 4% of your day. But that 4% will put you at the top of your field within 10 years. Find the time.” - Patrick Bet-David. I think it's more than just reading - although you will be so much better off if you do the reading. But listening to podcasts, watching videos, meeting with people that are a bit ahead of you in the things you want to do, etc. Self improvement is something we all can control and invest in. Keep it up!! You will hear how I had to actually check the math on this 4%... and yes.. It's true. Thanks for listening. I listened to Ed Mylett's latest podcast (listen to it HERE) and it really got me thinking, got me fired up and helped me to do some serious reflection about a few things. It's all about unlocking our best version of ourselves. Lot's of things here that help us to see how we all have challenges and those connect with the way we think of ourselves. We all have a past and as I've said for years that our past is our best mentor. The good and not so good - all of it has lessons for us. This is a long podcast so you can find a car ride, a few days of breaking it up, just make the time to listen to it as it's so good!! Here is the VIDEO of Ed's podcast. Thanks for listening. As usual, there seems to be a lot on my mind throughout the day (and night at times). I found this simple reminder - simple but not easy to do. From Dr. Jim Afremow (@goldmedalmind) who posted this: “Just win the moment in front of you.” Again, (a repeated topic) there are so many distractions every day in our lives. More so now than ever before it seems. When we win the moment in front of us - with whatever that might be - good things can happen. We stack more “wins” each day, we have more good days. We pile up more good days, life gets going in a good direction. Notice that it's not about being perfect, it's about being our best. For me, it's a never ending chase and it's something worth working towards for sure. I hope it is for you too. Thanks for listening. No Blaming. No Complaining. No Defending. Great rules to live by when working in a team environment.
This actually came across my “news wire” yesterday just about the time where I got off the phone with my buddy Coach Dave Ruekert (@CoachRuekert). It connected with Dave and so many others in my life. The post came from Gary Hensel (@gary_hensel) and the post was this powerful reminder: “Surround Yourself With People Who - Empower you, Believe in you, Support you, Uplift you, Motivate you and Appreciate you.” I am reminded about so many people that help me in so many ways. The list is long. I take something from each of them and I hope I gave them much more than I took from them. My wish for you? Think about those that are connected to this list. Then, go out of your way to let them know & thank them. Thanks for listening. Look what I found - a powerful reminder for myself that I also saw something yesterday that my daughter showed me. This comes from Gratitude HQ (@gratefuledu64) and they shared this: “Let's be that person, who roots for others. Who tells a stranger they look amazing and encourages others to believe in themselves and their dreams.” What happened to simply being happy for others when they find something that fires them up? Why is it that so many people have to “dump” on people for sharing things that they are excited about? Why is it so hard to just smile and say to yourself, I'm happy for that person… good for them? To me, this is something that so many people need help with - including me. I need to be a better encourager. I need to keep rooting for the underdogs in life. Truthfully, if it's something that I don't agree with or don't like - I can simply keep scrolling or like I just did - hit the UNFOLLOW button, instead of piling on criticism, negative feedback, etc. Now, there are times for sure to “REPLY” to others and not be silent, but for the most part it doesn't have to be every single time you see things you don't like or simply want to rag on someone for being happy. Just my 2.5 cents. Thanks for listening. I found a very inspirational and thought provoking post from a former student, and I've leaned on him plenty of times before. Coach Ray Ostrowski (@CoachRayO3313) is an amazing teacher and football coach, where he goes out of his way to share things just about every day with his students and players, but also the rest of the world too. This long-time educator and coach recognizes the importance of learning all of the time and that's one of the main driving forces behind this podcast and just about everything that I do. Coach Ray shares this: “1st & 3rd - Life is not fair. The only thing in life that is fair is a ball hit between 1st & 3rd. We are promised adversity in life. Everything you achieve - everything you do, you'll have to overcome difficulties. Your integrity & your character are what will define you. How you handle the adversity?” In today's world - especially here in our country, we have way too many examples of those that DON'T have much character and integrity and we can see where that gets people in life. There are so many reasons and examples for us to keep working on these two success ingredients. The world needs us to step up and put these into action for sure. Thanks for listening. Reading the new book from Mitch Albom called “Twice” (click HERE for the book info.) It gets us thinking about what if we got second chances to do things over? But we would have to live with that new choice. Also, it can be used for Love either. So many thoughts here that this is helping to see things in my life just a bit differently. I understand that what I have in my life, I would not risk changing things in my past to have what I have today. It's also taught me a little bit, that at times, we do have a second chance - to say I'm sorry. To fix something at that moment that just got broken. The key is in the moment. I hope this book gets you thinking about your life like it has for me. Make sure you check out all of Mitch's books HERE. Would love to hear about your thoughts if you are able to get this book or any of his books and what you thought of them. Thanks for listening. I saw something recently that gave me a motivational lift along with a reminder too. This comes from UpSkillYourLife (@UpSkillYourLife) and it's this: “Forget your age. If you have dreams to achieve, you are still young.” I do have dreams to achieve - still!! I also think of my current age and I am reminded through this post and other things, that yes I am still young. I'm still that 15 year old boy that I was 44 years ago with dreams and thoughts of a future that I could not touch yet. Well, that future has been here and is now my present. As long as I have dreams to work toward, all the ages I have been in my life are here to help me keep going after things. The longer I let this thought simmer, the more emotional I get. Part of it also is that I'm in the middle of reading Mitch Albom's new book “Twice” which just came out recently. I'll share more from the book in my next podcast. I still have dreams and I still can work towards them, no matter what my age is today! That's true for all of us. Just keep working towards them - little steps or big ones, doesn't matter. Just keep going! Thanks for listening. Found a post from Overmind (@overmind01) where a very simple statement got me thinking about a few things. The post was this: “Education isn't for employment. Education is for enlightenment.” A key point that I always made to my students was that education happens all throughout our lives. Education was not meant (in my opinion) simply to help us get a job. It's for living our best lives and we need to realize that we can keep learning from reading, watching, listening, etc. Also tied into this is the fact that as part of the enlightenment that education offers us, is that we should always look towards those things that fire us up. Those things that light us up. Those things that we feel that we are called to do. Just remember to not stop trying to be your best. Keep looking to get better. Remember, it's not just you that benefits from you being your best!! Thanks for listening. I was on the road again - nothing big, just a grocery pickup and I was listening to The Daily Coach Podcast - Getting Comfortable With Failure. It was another of so many incredible sources of hearing stories from people who have been through failure, rejection, tough times, tragedy, etc. My connection point today is for all of us to find those sources of lessons that we can learn from. It certainly doesn't have to be the same source for all of us. Just keep learning & keep getting better! Find more from TheDaily.Coach Another fantastic source of lessons is John O'Leary's movie - Soul On Fire! It's a must see movie for lessons for all of us to be the heroes for others (and ourselves). Now, this post that I saw from Seek Wiser (@SeekWiser_) is all about raising our standards, but when I saw it - I knew this post was directly pointing at me. I don't want you getting offended by the title. I'll use something else in my thoughts about these thoughts in this episode. But, it is easy for me to see that this is a formula for me to get things better in my life and I hope you can take a few things from it to add value to your life. Face it, we all have standards for ourselves that we can get better at for sure. Thanks for listening. Reads with Ravi (@readswithravi) comes through with another reflection for all of us. “A reminder: Your life is nothing but a reflection of how you spend your time.” WOW!! Talk about an eye-opening thought, especially when you read this while looking in the mirror!! If we don't like things going on in our lives - look how we spend our time! I've been reflecting on my life … wow.. Now that I think about it… ever since I can remember. All this reflection and I don't think I've thought of the easy connection of how I spend my time. I have thought about my habits, what choices I make, my actions, my thoughts, etc., but it really is all about how I spend my time. Knowing this - it's something totally under my control of course, which simply means that I can not only do something about, but that I can't blame other people or circumstances. More great stuff for all of us to keep improving! When we add value to ourselves, good things can happen. Thanks for listening. I was listening to a podcast from “The Burn Podcast” by Ben Newman where he was having a fabulous conversation with Inky Johnson — the same Inky that I keep leaning on in so many of my episodes. Listen to it HERE. We are reminded about Inky's career-ending injury and how it changed his entire life. This helped to remind me how humility, discipline (it's been a recurring lesson lately), focus and he speaks about having a strong faith where he transformed pain into purpose. I love the connection to his pain, setbacks, problems and obstacles reminds him (and all of us) why it's important to remember that success comes from action, not just words. The idea of “reframing suffering into meaning” comes up in this amazing conversation between these two GIANT difference-makers. They shared how they are viewing their suffering, adversity, problems, etc., as growing into a powerful strength in their lives. Well, since I have plenty of adversity and stuff (and WE ALL DO), this can hopefully help me and you find some way of connecting to our own strength to help us become better throughout life! It's all about the mindset to keep showing up, no matter what is going on in our lives!! Thanks for listening. I connected with someone new recently when I saw this post from Gary Hensel (@gary_hensel) and it's a powerful reminder for all of us. We can all have this superpower, in fact we already have it. But if you are like me, I need to have it a bit more often everyday and that's exactly what I plan on doing. This thought here means a lot: “Calmness is a superpower. The ability to not overreact or take things personally keeps your mind clear and your heart at peace.” ~ Idil Ahmed In today's crazy and mixed up world, keeping calm is a necessity for living our best life. Anything that can help keep our mind clear and our heart at peace, is something worth going for. Remember, when we are better, it helps everyone around us be better too. Thanks for listening. I found this quote (from unknown) that said - “I fell in love with this quote: ‘Discipline is remembering who you said you wanted to be.'” This is short, yet so powerful. As soon as I saw it, read it and it sunk in - I was reminded instantly about doing things to help make myself be better in order to not only go after the things I want to do in my life, but also to help those that I love be their best too! Let this quote sink into your heart and then see what you are feeling & thinking. Thanks for listening. I found an interesting post that got me thinking a little bit where Mindful Maven (@mindfulmaven_) showed this image of glass where there was a line in the middle. Above the line, it said “People who wonder whether the glass is half empty or half full, miss the point.” On the bottom half of the glass, it says “The glass is refillable.” I've always been a self-described “glass half full” kind of guy. What I guess I was missing was the fact that the glass (my glass, my life, me, etc.), was always still there to be refilled. All parts of life are part of this “keep pouring” mentality. The one thing that isn't - it's time. Once it's gone, it's gone. Now, we can do things to help us maximize our time, and help ourselves to make time for the things we want to do in life. Great lessons here for me and others too. Thanks for listening. Found a great reminder Psyche Wizard (@PsycheWizard) where this thought was shared: “The quickest way to succeed is to start now and figure it out as you go. You can't learn how to drive in a parked car.” So many thoughts came to mind when I saw this. I think it's easy to imagine sitting in a parked car, sitting on a bike, on a skateboard, a motor cycle, etc., and it's not going anywhere. Or maybe it's not even running or turned on. When it comes to acting on ideas or projects, starting to move forward is a good thing. Finding out new information or getting help along the way instead of being too afraid to even put the car in drive. I've done too much sitting in a parked car at times or maybe even too afraid of unlocking the car and getting in. What about you? Anything you are hesitating about to put your car in drive? Or peddle your bike? Or simply taking a step forward to start going in the direction you want to go in? Yea… me too. Thanks for listening. I found one of the simplest pieces of advice that I need help with and maybe others need this too. From Overmind (@overmind01) this thought is shared: “Don't blame the distractions, improve your focus.” There are so many distractions in the world and in front of us, now more than ever before it seems. As stated in this episode, I clicked on a “distraction” right before I hit the record button. My focus is something that not only do I need to work on improving, I'm the only one that can do it! Again, this is on a long list of things that I know I need to keep working on. For me, there will never be a day where I don't have something to do. Thanks for listening. As if I needed another rule to follow. This one is something you will want to connect with I think and it's not that difficult to understand. From Reads with Ravi (@readswithravi) where this is shared: “The Rule of 100 - If you spend 100 hours a year in any discipline, (which is only 18 minutes a day), you'll be better than 95% of the world in that discipline. Consistency is everything.” This is something that anyone can connect to any discipline or more than one discipline. Just think of the great things you can do, not to say your #1, but to make a difference with others. To have a service, product, idea, etc., that can help others - just because you had the faith and effort to have consistency in doing what lights you up! The world needs this - more people to share the things that light that spark within them. Thanks for listening. It always seems, sad as it is, that we humans tend to not only learn lessons from others more so when they are gone, but humans have a sad track record, that looking back throughout history - we don't learn these lessons too well. Now of course this does not mean every single human being throughout history - tons of great people for sure that know and live these lessons. One of the best was Jane Goodall (look her up) and here is a quote from her that really hits home now that she just recently passed. She reminded us that “You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.” A conversation that I had with my buddy Coach Dave Ruekert recently, reminded me about the choices we have both made to help others through teaching and coaching. Really got me thinking about how much I need to stay on the journey I'm on and maybe look for different ways of continuing to connect to students and teachers along with athletes and coaches. We all have the ability to make “the world” better, right where we are at. The world needs us to do that for sure. Thanks for listening. Saw an interesting list from Book Therapy (@Book_therapy223) where they shared these six items. “Discipline is not hard. You just don't know these secrets: 1) Find your why, 2) Routine is Important, 3) Mindset Matters, 4) Celebrate Small Wins, 5) Visualize, and 6) Reset, Don't Quit. These items got me thinking about a lot of things that I want to keep working on so that I can be at my best. I keep reminding myself that when I'm at my best - so many other people benefit too. Today there is no shortage of information out there - the key is to find the good stuff in order to keep getting better. Out of the many things that I listen to so that I can invest in myself, and try to keep the spark going for myself. Tons of stuff for you to connect to, here are three of the many that I lean on. First, John O'Leary! You've heard about him many times on my podcasts. Here is his link to his Website. This is a BIG DEAL right here. The movie Soul on Fire - John O'Leary's life story… the movie comes out October 10. Find out more info HERE. It's a must see movie as my wife and I got to see one of the special previews, back in August. It's a powerful & emotional movie that has tons of life lessons. Please, check it out!! Secondly - Mitch Albom!! I have been connected to Mitch for more than 40 years starting with his newspaper columns. His book Tuesdays With Morrie was a life changer for so many people, including Mitch. His new book comes out Oct. 7 - Check out some info about “Twice” - click HERE for more information about his new book plus all the other items on his website. Finally, the recent episode of Ben Newman interviewing Inky Johnson. Amazing conversation with so many inspirations and ideas for us to keep getting better. Mike discusses the importance of maintaining a positive work environment, referencing a book by John Gordon, 'The No Complaining Rule'. They distinguish between complaining and problem-solving, emphasizing that complaints are about issues beyond one's control, while problem-solving involves addressing issues that can be resolved. Mike outlines their commitment to not tolerate negative energy or gossip in the workplace, sharing an example of firing an agent who was a constant complainer. They encourage employees to voice their concerns directly to them, as they value their input for improvement. Mike's goal is to foster a culture where employees can thrive without being hindered by negativity.
I came across a couple of great posts that really got me thinking about something we all do and the importance of realizing that there is a ton to learn from this event. What I found from Seek Wiser (@SeekWiser_) was a great reminder as to what failure is all about. Here it is: “F = Fall, A = Acknowledge, I = Investigate, L = Learn, U = Understand, R = Realign and the E = Evolve”. Some great reminders for us to always connect with, since we all have Failure as part of our everyday lives! The second thing that I remembered to share came up as I was recording this episode. It came from Psyche Wizard (@PsycheWizard) where this was posted for us to remember too: “Be loyal to your future, not your past.” Powerful words to connect with learning from failure in our lives. This was truthfully, a great start to my day that I needed for sure. Hope (as always) that this helps you too. Thanks for listening. I came across a powerful post from Mindful Maven (@mindfulmaven_) where this African Proverb was shared: “No matter how sharp your teeth are, you can't bite water. Meaning - Each problem comes with its own solution. Take time to understand the nature of the situation before taking action. Powerful thoughts here that I never really thought about before. Chewing water (yes I tried it), gets you nowhere. Chewing water should not be a problem because we don't need to do it. I do appreciate the connection to problems that have their own unique solutions AND I know for sure that I don't want to cause a ton of problems for myself, since the world & other people seem to do enough of that for all of us. Found this post that is connected to The Ryder Cup (currently going on at the time of this recording - the USA team has a lot of work to do to get closer to the European team.) But this clip came from DAILY HOVI (@dailyhovi) - where Viktor Hovland says about his plans to just laugh off comments from the crowd while playing the match in New York City (notorious for the jeering of visiting opponents) because they can't be worse than his own thoughts that he has going on in his head. This clip from Viktor is so powerful as it simply is not just about golf, but more importantly about life. Side note: Europe did win the Ryder Cup. Thanks for listening. Still hanging onto John O'Leary's podcast that I shared yesterday. If you need the link again to check out this episode - click HERE. It's a great episode to listen to again and I'm zeroing in on one of the questions that John asks all of his guests. They are called the Live Inspired 7 and I'm focusing in on is #2: “What is a characteristic or trait that you possessed as a child that you wish you still exhibited today?” You heard what DeVon's answer was. This podcast I started to jump into what my answer(s) would be and I'm also throwing this question out to you too! After you listen to this episode, you will know what some of mine are. Found a post from a relatively new source and I'll make sure you understand what this is about and what it's not. The source was Philosophy of Ages (@PhilosophyAges) and what they shared was this: “A millionaire once said: People don't have the patience to dedicate 3 years to building their own business, but they do have the patience to work for others for 40 years.” Now one thing for sure, it's not about making a ton of money. It's all about having the patience to dedicate to yourself. To keep investing in yourself. To become the best you can become. It's something to keep working on all the time. Plus, another thing… you want to spend 40 years doing something for a career, make sure you love getting up for it every day!! Find whatever lights that spark inside of you. I found a great post that ties into something else that I saw this morning and it all centers around the importance of always learning. Reads with Ravi (@readswithravi) shared this thought: “Those who keep learning will keep rising in life.” ~ Charlie Munger. This was also connected to another post that I saw this morning with a quote (even though I butchered the thought) from Brian Tolentine, M.Ed. - “Students need to read books. Entire books. Our society is distracted, unfocused, and in a hurry. A curriculum that rushes through content perpetuates the anxiety of our time. Reading a book (slowly and leisurely) is a countercultural act.” We are all students in life and life is always a teacher. Keep investing in yourself. When we are at our best, those around us benefit too. The world needs us to be our best! Thanks for listening. Leaning on this guy a lot lately and his message today is one that all of us can make a personal connection with. It comes from Mark Hickie (@MPHickie) and he shares these thoughts about the quote he connects this with. Mark's thoughts are: “A message for today … Success isn't always instant or visible. It's built in the quiet hours, when no one is watching. Every bit of effort, every act of dedication adds up. Even when recognition seems distant, keep showing up—your breakthrough is closer than you think.” There are so many things that we are doing in life that don't get noticed by others. Remember, that's not what we are looking for. What we are looking for, I think, is that WE notice the little things we are doing AND we understand that we just need to keep working on them, keep doing them, keep learning new things to help us to keep going. Also remember that when we keep at the things, the habits, we keep getting better. To me, that is success. You being at your best means you are able to make a difference for others. When we are not working to be our best - we are not able to help others that much. Keep working on ourselves my friends. Keep bringing the effort, the thought, the energy, etc., each and every day. That is success for sure. Thanks for listening. Sharing some great thoughts with you today from the legend, Jon Gordon (@JonGordon11) where he reminds us in his “Mindset Monday” post, that “It's better to give than receive. Yet some people are reluctant to give because they don't feel like they have enough. That's a scarcity mindset. When you give, you find abundance. The more you give, the more you receive to give away. Be a giver! Live generous today!” The more we keep working on ourselves to be our best, we will have plenty to give away. Remember, it's not just money. It's our time, our listening, our laughter, our smiles, our help, etc. Things like this get me so fired up because I've seen it happen for me - especially lately. I'm glad I'm finally learning how important this is. I've had glimpses of it before throughout my younger years, but not the clear understanding on how awesome this is. Keep at it my friends. The world needs you at your best!! Thanks for listening. I had a start to my day where I was trying to connect with something better than what was swirling around in my head. I let the “doom and gloom” stuff going around in the world today, get to me. But like before, I knew it was happening and I set out to choose to do something about it. A gratitude walk sure did help this morning along with a couple of other things. First came from Coach Ray Ostrowski (@CoachRayO3313) - a former student and now an outstanding teacher and coach himself. He shares this: “New Day - New Opportunity - Today is a new day. It does not care about what happened last week. It does not care what you plan to do next week. Today is a new day & a great opportunity to get better. Always be thankful and grateful for a new day. Make the best of your opportunity.” Perfect for me today! Next up was a post from Power of Positivity (@LIVEpositivity) “Stay hopeful. You never know what tomorrow may bring.” Again, a message to help me readjust my day, which we all need once in a while. Another couple of items came from a teaching post that I got some very uplifting feedback from three former students and a couple of former colleagues, that once again, helped me readjust my day!! It's also probably time for a readjustment of my social media intake as well. So many more things to help me with where I want my days (and ultimately my life) to go in a more positive direction. Hope this helps you when you need a readjustment of your day. Thanks for listening. Found a powerful post from Mind Essentials (@Mind_Essentials) where the quote was shared on the side of a building. (like it's that important for us to see it) The quote? It's right here: “Life's already hard, I don't wanna be around anyone who makes it worse.” )The quote comes from @bestmemory.) This point has already been on my radar for as long as I can remember. I've always said that life and other people will make life hard - why would I make it any harder for myself. Now that doesn't mean that I have it all figured out and I haven't always listened to this quote. I struggle too. I just hope and plan to not keep struggling with this. I will still work on not letting myself help the world and others that cause troubles!! Then I will also be working on not causing myself problems too. Thanks for listening. It's been awhile since I have shared something from John Maxwell's “Daily Reader.” This is from September 16 and it deals with Significance over Security. It gets us thinking about settling for security (and in today's world, that sounds great with all of the crazy things going on), but it also gets us thinking about how significant we are in our lives. It's a mind shift to our purpose and our life's mission. Doesn't matter our age or where we are in our lives, we can always make the shift he shares in this. This has been on my heart, on my mind and in my actions for a long time. I just need to turn up the heat of me going after this now in my life. How about you? Thanks for listening. Saw a post that was funny, sad, but (to me) very true! It was from “Echoes of the Past” and the quote was an image of an older cowboy sitting on a horse with a slight smile and he is saying: “I guess they had to invent artificial intelligence since real intelligence is running out.” My first thing I did was have a little smile and chuckle, but then quickly went to a kind of sad feeling. But, I do feel the part of “real intelligence” disappearing quite fast. My thought is to invest in yourself in “human skills”. Those skills that (I think) technology cannot replace. For sure, learn about AI and other intelligence things, but don't let them replace your human skills. That's the key! Thanks for listening. I found a couple of posts that gave me this idea to put these two powerful things together. First from Dear Self (@Dearme2_) where it was shared that “Consistency looks like nothing is happening, until everything changes. Awesome piece to hold onto and to keep being consistent every day we can. The second piece came from Psyche Wizard (@PsycheWizard), who I have connected with many times before and today's message was this: “Discipline will carry you to places motivation can't.” These two connections to our success are there for us to connect to and make a part of our own success formula! Make them your own!! Keep at it! Don't give up! Don't give into the crud happening in the world today!! Oh… sorry… those things were directed at me. LOL Thanks for listening. I found a great connection with some understanding and uplifting items that I needed today, and it all came from Mark Hickie (@MPHickie) where he shared his introduction to post today: “A message for today … Life isn't always fair — but that doesn't mean you have to give up. Refuse to be ruled by negativity. Stay strong, stay positive & keep moving forward. You are capable of achieving far more than you believe.” This got my attention right away as I saw that I was letting life beat me up a bit lately. The post that went with his intro, solidified why I needed this today. Check this episode out a few times as the more I spoke, the more things I started connected to it and people that provided some of those great connections!! I found some awesome reflections here with this one and I hope it helps you reflect and make some deep-rooted connections to what you need to do in your life. A big thank you for listening to this one. Thanks for listening.
