Invest In Her host Catherine Gray talks with Cheryl Benton, founder, CEO and “head tomato” of The Three Tomatoes, a highly successful digital media company and free newsletter that covers fascinating lifestyle news of interest to “mature women” (aka “tomatoes”) nationwide with 4 city specific newsletters, NYC, LA, San Francisco, and Miami, along with Debbie Zipp the LA Life editor for The Three Tomatoes. Debbie is probably best known for her recurring lead role as Donna on the "Murder She Wrote" CBS series starring Angela Lansbury as well as many TV series regular roles and guest star appearances, lead stage roles and principal roles in over 300 national television commercials. Cheryl is a sought-after speaker on women's issues and is a longtime advocate for women and girls around the world. She has served on the board of UN Women, and founded the NYC Leadership Council for Plan International USA, both organizations that advocate for the equality of women and girls. In 2018 Cheryl Benton wrote her first novel, followed by a book of mid-life humor that quickly became #1 on Amazon's hot new releases. What started out as a newsletter with the real skinny on the best of everything in NYC for fabulous, smart women like you and us, soon attracted smart fabulous women from coast to coast (and even across the pond). It wasn't just NYC women who were feeling invisible, and our newsletters that talked about everything from where to get the best facials, thong underwear that are actually comfortable, our opinions about plastic surgery, Botox, children, husbands, friends and whatever else may be coursing through our hormonally charged brains, gained a following. And then people with expertise and knowledge wanted to be part of this adventure, and before you could say hot flash, we had a web site, which has grown into a full blown lifestyle guide for fun, smart “tomatoes.” www.sheangelinvestors.com https://www.thethreetomatoes.com/ Follow Us On Social Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | LinkedIn
Been Thinking About Writing A Book 'Someday'? Well This Might Actually Be The Day! Many ‘would be' authors procrastinate because they have no clue how to get a book published. I hear the topic of 'writing a book' come up often. Things I always hear people say? "I should really write a book”. "I've been meaning to write a book”. "I've been working on a book for years that I really need to finish”. "I need to find someone to help me write my book.” “I've written a book but I have no idea how to get it published”. “My book is done but I have no idea how to market it.” I thought maybe Cheryl Benton could help some of you. I've been a fan and supporter of Cheryl for years. A former English teacher, PR guru, and ad agency whiz, Cheryl has always been a prolific writer and avid reader. She combined all her skills when she founded 'The Three Tomatoes' lifestyle guide for 'women who aren't kids'. A couple of years ago Cheryl decided to write her first book. She managed her way through the entire self publishing book process herself with her first novel, "Can You See Us Now"? The book was a hit! Six months after that, she created another book with her daughter Roni Jenkins, called 'Martini Wisdom'. Another hit! That one quickly became #1 on Amazon's hot new releases. Both books were published under 'The Three Tomatoes Publishing' imprint. Cheryl got so many requests for information about how they did it, she decided to expand their book platform to provide services to help other authors realize their dreams. And now ‘Three Tomatoes Publishing' is doing just that. They're on a roll and picking up speed and bringing all kinds of books to life. Maybe yours is next? For the record there are various publishing models. The traditional publishing model usually requires an agent, can take up to two years, and offers fairly low royalties. There are hybrid publishing models where you pay and then share in royalties. There's the self-published model, where you do everything, including all your marketing. (Cheryl points out that marketing is the most critical factor after a good book and one that is often left to the author, even with traditional publishers). In our conversation here Cheryl sparks all the ‘would be' authors out there to come on and get it done! 'Three Tomatoes Publishing' she says can help you get your book published, your audiobook produced, create a book marketing program and if need be even help write the darn book for you. There's also the option for authors to choose to cherry pick some of their services. Three Tomatoes Publishing is particularly interested in books by women for women over forty that can be marketed via The Three Tomatoes media platform to their audience of women over 40. But they do accept male authors as well. BTW: The Three Tomatoes started as a just for the fun of it newsletter which Cheryl originally sent to 60 friends. They now have several newsletters a week, a major website, a weekly podcast and events. With 15,000 subscribers and over 40,000 visitors each month to the web site, theirs is an excellent vehicle for promoting books.
Without a doubt, boomer women are reinventing the spirit and style of aging. To these ends, our guest, Cheryl Benton, has created the most wonderful media company, go-to resource and newsletter for boomer women called The Three Tomatoes. Now, she has added to her numerous offerings aimed at our age group by authoring a second inspiring look at growing older as a woman in today's culture. It follows her first book Can You See Us Now? and is named Can You Hear Us Now? Although both of Cheryl's books take into account the struggles and slights suffered by those of us of a certain age, each is filled with plenty of humor and sass. They're stimulating, fun and real page-turners for sure! If you're fed up dealing with the invisibility factor, you will want to be sure catch this lively interview celebrating all things aging in style!

Ute Franzen-Waschke, of Holle, Germany, specializes in corporate culture and communication and has been working from home as a coach and consultant for nearly two decades. In today's episode, she talks about how she and her husband had temporarily relocated to the USA for her husband's work assignment right before the 2020 pandemic started shutting everything down. Even though she had anticipated working remotely with some of her corporate clients while she was traveling, the two of them ended up working from an apartment in Michigan. In the past, Ute was seeing local clients often in the mornings and then doing admin work and some remote work in her afternoons. Even though she is back home in Germany, she is still restricted from visiting her clients onsite, so she has switched her work to 100% from home. Ute has used this time to embrace the search for electronic tools and apps to help navigate these new times alongside her clients, and she mentions Zoom and Howspace (https://bit.ly/3259f8q) as two tools she's used often in the past year. We discuss some of the pros and cons of working from home as a solopreneur as well as some of the pros and cons she knows are being discussed in corporations as well. Ute is the author of the book “How to create a successful remote work culture.” She was able to take her years of experience working with clients of different levels in the corporate setting and some of the things that she witnessed and learned about how they think to create three different avatars for the book that she wrote once she returned to her home in Germany in late 2020, someone from upper management, mid-management, and the team level. In her book, these avatars represent people from different walks of life and help walk people through a model she dubbed as the PPAS Maturity Model®. Ute is well versed in working with people in the international workplace and is devoted to helping individuals, teams, and businesses to thrive.
