Juventus has made its first two signings of the summer, but things are expected to pick up in the coming days — and it's not just about who might be leaving the club, either. On this week's episode of The Old Lady Speaks Podcast, we discuss: An important blog announcement regarding Juventus' first friendly in the United States against Chivas Guadalajara. (Hint: we're gonna be there and it's gonna be fun.) Over to Juventus news: Ángel Di Maria has officially signed with the Bianconeri. More Juventus news: Paul Pogba has officially signed with the Bianconeri on a free transfer for the second time in his career. #PogBack x 2. Now that they are both official and we can talk about them as actual deals, what does Pogba's return and the addition of Di Maria mean to this Juventus squad still very much in construction. Thoughts on Juventus' increasing interest in Roma attacker Nicolo Zaniolo, who comes with a lot of red flags despite his obvious talent. Twitter questions — including a Roma-leaning friend of the blog asking about hamburgers, how much leadership will Di Maria and Pogba add to a squad in need of some leaders, andif the Di Maria signing is hurting long-term building or just a frustrating thing in the moment because Juventus seemed to be wanting to go younger and less expensive salary-wise. Host Ives Galarcep breaks down the latest in MLS, and talks USMNT, while also catching up with guest and new Chivas Guadalajara signing Tony Alfaro
Greetings soccer fans, and welcome back to Sons of a Pitch! In this episode, the hosts review the latest slate of MLS games and story lines coming out of Week 31. San Jose hires Miguel Almeyda as their new coach. The Argentinian has a great playing and coaching pedigree, most notably winning the 2018 CONCACAF Champions League with Chivas Guadalajara. Is this a shift in thinking for the Quakes? Is this a shift in coaching talent for the MLS? Tune in for the hosts' input. On October 11, 2018, the USMNT faces Colombia in an international friendly played in Tampa, Florida. Nick will be looking closely at the defenders selected and how they work together and with the goalkeeper. #36! Terrance and I, Drew, are back to praise Salah for being the best player on the planet right now, and adding to that during Liverpool's screaming win over Roma. We also wonder what happened to Ronaldo and Lewandowski and how they went missing in the 1st leg. Lastly, I scream about how much I abhor Jozy Altidore and Michael Bradley and how I'm glad they lost in such a dramatic fashion. Congrats to Chivas Guadalajara for winning CONCACAF Champions League. Thanks for listening.Give us a 5 star rating and review on iTunes and we'll shout out your small business, ecommerce store, instagram, etc. Like our facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/onthecounterpodcast/, and subscribe and share.
TSN Soccer analyst Kristian Jack joined Scott MacArthur to discuss Leg 2 of the CONCACAF Champions League Final against Chivas Guadalajara, TFC needing to win and score at least two goals, the pace of play and more.
Free space is disappointment, and Toronto FC filled the #CCLFever free space on Tuesday by dropping the first (and home) leg of the Concacaf Champions League final to Chivas Guadalajara. The guys commiserate, as any MLS fan who follows this tournament does, then dig a little deeper below the surface to figure out what happened and attempt to find hope for next week's historic deciding match. Also in this episode ... MLSsoccer.com national writer Paul Tenorio on the latest development in the Lee Nguyen saga, Tata's options when it comes to getting Ezequiel Barco on the field for ATLUTD, some thoughts on those Bobby Wood rumors and lots of gnashing of teeth in the mailbag.
TSN Soccer analyst Kristian Jack joined Scott MacArthur to discuss Leg 1 between Chivas Guadalajara and Toronto FC, whether these are the biggest games in club history, injury updates for the Reds and less than favourable weather conditions.
Free space is disappointment, but Toronto FC don’t care. This is the stuff legends are made of, and a Concacaf Champions League title would make these Reds just that. The guys go all-in on Leg 1 and the long-term legacies at stake against Chivas Guadalajara, then turn to MLS Week 7. Also in this episode ... GAM, TAM and Sam Stejskal on the "elite teams and regular teams" per Alexi Lalas, Kaku shines and Jesse Marsch says he's ready for the XI, Western Conference musical chairs, plus Ben Baer in the mailbag
TSN Soccer Analyst Gareth Wheeler joins Landsberg in the Morning with Matt Cauz to discuss Toronto FC's victory in the Semi Finals of the CONCACAF Champions League, Alex Bono developing into a star goalkeeper, if TFC should be considered the favourite against Chivas Guadalajara and more.
In a spicy hot Radio Cascadia, the gang takes a look at a pair of surprising weekend results including a historic victory in Houston and a shocking display in Harrison. Copa America Centenario is over – more on Chile’s win, Messi’s retirement and a third-place game loss for the US in the second segment – but MLS’s summer of soccer shows no signs of slowing down. The guys start with New York City FC, who can’t get it done at Yankee Stadium but are apparently juggernauts on the road. Oh, and Frank Lampard appears to back to doing Frank Lampard things. What does that mean for Doyle’s fearless playoff prediction? Of course, plenty can change for all 20 teams once the transfer window opens onJuly 4. The guys bat around some rumors, ruminate on a few fake trades and then get FC Dallas Fernando Clavijo on the line to explain why the club sold talented 18-year-old Alejandro Zendejas to Chivas Guadalajara. Plus, with teams sniffing around Fabian Castillo, how long will he stick around MLS? Who might be in line to replace him? After a month of battle between CONMEBOL and CONCACAF, Chile emerged as Copa America Centenario champions via yet another shootout win against unlucky Argentina. Lionel Messi was down in the dumps, then he announced his international retirement. Buenos Aires-based Sam Kelly checks in to give the dirt on the drama surrounding the federation and its most important player on a day that saw a bomb threat make headline news. Sometimes reality is crazier than fiction. In the mailbag, listeners fact check some dubious claims by the guys and more CONMEBOL/CONCACAF collaboration gets the once over.
It has been a tough couple of years as a Milan fan, most recently trying to stomach the friendly performances here in the USA. But suddenly, we are feeling like we are in a fantasy with two big exits and a couple of even bigger new signings. Still shell shocked and not sure what to trust or who to believe, our discussion is candid, but shows some hope and optimism again with these new “fantasy” signings as well as the exit of Robinho and Constant. Even if Milan's mercato ends here, there is a glimmer of hope that the club is doing something, even if we aren't sure it is necessarily the right thing for the future. This time I welcomed back my original Milan Obsession co-founder, Jovan, who is also the creator of four fantasy football games: Fantasy Serie A, Fantasy Bundesliga, Fantasy Liga, and the all new Fantasy Premier League. We discussed: • News of the Week: Season ticket fail, referees under attack, and FIGC election • Match Reviews and Previews: ICC Friendly: Liverpool 2, Milan and Chivas Guadalajara 0, Milan 3. Previews: Valencia vs. Milan Sun. Aug 17th, and Trofeo TIM tournament Sat. Aug. 23rd • Mercato News: Updates and rumors • Season Predictions: Milan and Serie A • Douchebaggery Alert System™: Where Milan are this week Thanks once again to Jovan, my Milan Obsession co-founder and original co-blogger. Check out his Fantasy Football games today, they are a great way to distract you through the upcoming season. Serie A: fantasyseriea.com, Bundesliga: fantasybundes.com, La Liga: fantasy-liga.com, and the all new Premier League game: fantasy-premier.com
After reasonable success in their friendlies against Lega Pro sides, Milan put in two very poor performances against real teams in the ICC Tournament friendlies thus far. The mercato shows no promise, and to make things worse, the Serie A schedule was released and we face a very difficult start. So if you still have any hopes for this season, your worst fears seem to be being realized. We tried to find the small positives in what is shaping up to be another very painful season for Milan fans. For this podcast, I was joined once again by the original Milan Obsession member, Francesco. We discussed: • News of the Week: Away kit release, small victories, Balotelli's PSA, Juventus Allegrified • Match Reviews and Previews: ICC Friendlies: Milan 0, Olympiacos 3; Milan 1, Manchester City 5. Coming up: Liverpool vs. Milan on Sat. Aug. 2nd, and Chivas Guadalajara vs. Milan on Wed. Aug. 6th • Mercato News: Updates and rumors • Where is the Youth? Will we see a lot of youth get time this year? • Douchebaggery Alert System™: Where Milan are this week Thanks once again to Francesco, who showed exceptional patience and flexibility trying to record this podcast. Follow him on Twitter @FrancescoPetra8 and look for his omnipresent and fun comments on the blog.
