Leagues Cup is underway as the Black & Gold start the tournament with a statement win; Dave Denholm and Mario Ruiz react to a convincing 3-0 victory over Club Tijuana. LAFC seem to be in great form for Leagues Cup 2024 as Olivier Giroud could possibly make his debut in the coming games. Plus, a pretty good weekend for MLS teams in the battle vs. Liga MX clubs in the first round of group play. Also, Dave and Mario take a sneak peek at LAFC vs Vancouver.
LAFC opens up their Leagues Cup group stage with a 3-0 win vs Club Tijuana. A sloppy match you can't be mad at when the xG is high, the goals are high, and the sheet is CLEAN. But HONESTLY? This episode is lowkey cursed. We jinxed Aaron Long's solid performance throughout the season thus far; we go down the rabbit hole of a genuinely scary head (or neck?) injury to Tijuana's Christian Rivera, and the ensuing psychotic break of his coach, Juan Carlos Osorio, that resulted in a red card, and will likely result in further suspension and/or fine. But that's not all! Travis can't pronounce "Michelada," Darren admits he doesn't ACTUALLY know anything about Antoine Griezmann (like, at all), and worst of all, Heel Of The Foot, Geoff Tock, calls into the show. Just kidding, it actually gets worse than that. Listen to find out how dark this thing gets! But also it was a fun celebration to a fun win! IT CAN BE BOTH! LEAGUES CUP AND US OPEN CUP CAN BOTH BE GOOD! TWO THINGS CAN BE TRUE AT ONCE! From playing across the country on dirt fields and training long hours every day, Vazquez worked his way up to his leading role on FC Cincinnati with no plans to stop there. Through the lens of Vazquez, listeners will be able to see how perseverance, family, and frustration come into play while navigating the MLS. *Recorded September 1, 2022
