Are you still trying to figure out which social media channel to focus on to grow your business? What about Linkedin? Sure, it may not seem as exciting to scroll through as some other feeds. However, I’ve brought in a guest today to tell us why it’s time to rethink the value of Linkedin. Chrissie Wywrot is the president and CEO of e-Link Consulting. With more than 14 years of experience in marketing and public relations, she works with clients to generate maximum visibility on LinkedIn through profile optimization, marketing blueprints, and ongoing support. Chrissie explains how Linkedin became a platform for content generation and engagement. Once considered a serious business-only platform, Linkedin has become a great place to showcase personality and what makes you and your brand unique. This helps you identify and find the clients you will work with best. Each platform has different uses and people are on them for different reasons. That’s why it’s important to understand how to generate the right type of content engagement depending on what you’re looking for. A good place to start inside of Linkedin is to engage with it the same way you would at a networking event. Chrissie explains why approaching people on Linkedin should mirror the way you would do it in person. What does your Linkedin strategy look like? Tell me in the comments on the episode page! In this episode Discovering just how Linkedin works Using social media to showcase the personality behind the brand How to appropriately network online so that people see you as an actual human being Three ways to interact on Linkedin so that the platform works for you Great Linkedin profiles to follow and learn from What every successful Linkedin profile needs to include Quotes “There’s this idea that we have to be all buttoned-up and tight on Linkedin. The funny part is, the other stuff is working. I get business from being myself.” [19:46] “If you’re your authentic self, you’re going to attract people who enjoy what you’re doing. Those are the people who you want to work with.” [21:19] “The people who engage with your content are typically not the people who buy from you…. But the people who are engaging are amplifying your content and putting it in front of more eyeballs and those who are lurking.” [31:27] Links Find Chrissie Wywrot online Follow Chrissie on Linkedin CRM Walkthrough “A Conference Call in Real Life” - Video Shay Rowbottom Adam Karpiak Anthony Jones Kristin Olson-Kott Herman Moore Additional Links: Check out the full show notes page Do you have something to share on this podcast? When Chrissie Wywrot sets her mind to do something...she does it. And does it big. As a young woman, she knew she wanted to work for the NFL. And sure enough, she ended up doing the social media marketing for the Detroit Lions, a super sweet gig where she was able to be on the forefront of big brands being on social media. So...she learned a lot. Then, with two kids and a brand new baby, she began her business because her family needed more income. She’s always been a good writer, so she chose to focus on helping people with LinkedIn marketing. During our conversation, Chrissie talks about… Why she decided to niche down her skills to offer only LinkedIn marketing services How she managed a complete rebrand once she realized how she wanted to niche How her LinkedIn marketing business got legs by being live and in person, networking around her local community. How she manages the “feast or famine” cycle that most service providers go through...the process that happens when you go out networking, attract clients, but then become so busy servicing those clients that your pipeline goes dry because you’re not out networking. How she’s evolving her business as she becomes a teacher of what she knows. The power of owning her own philosophy of LinkedIn and why that sets her apart. Unforgettable: Messaging | Leadership | Personal Brand | Visibility
As I sat under the flashing lights of Chalene Johnson’s Marketing Impact Live listening to speaker after speaker talk openly about the trend towards Facebook and other social media platforms favoring conversation between real people rather than just throwing up something to get “likes”, I was reminded of my core belief: Marketing is pointless without genuine human-to-human connection. I see it over and over again in my clients’ businesses and in my own. Each person you connect with MATTERS. Now, that being said, I know that simply connecting isn’t guaranteed to help you get coaching clients. You need a more sustainable strategy, which is why I’ve been talking A LOT about niche (like seriously A LOT). That’s because coaches make it so much harder on themselves to get paid when they choose the “wrong” niche. If you’ve already got a niche, this episode will help you tweak it so people want to pay you. And if you’re a new coach, you're gonna need this when you choose a niche so you don't waste energy struggling to convince people to hire you. Listen in to know whether the niche you chose is going to make any money. (Oh, and there’s video too!) Announcements: Are you struggling to hone your niche? Or trying to choose between two? Chrissie Wywrot has had 10 years of digital marketing and public relations experience that began with her work in the NFL. She grew up the South of Detroit in a small town and has always been passionate about sports. Chrissie's career path is an excellent example of finding your niche, a topic that has been interwoven into many of our episodes. After college, Chrissie pursued her passion for sports by working for the Detroit Lions in guest services. Having an interest in public relations inspired her to work her way to managing their website. Website development included a lot of writing, graphics, photography and social media. Niching down further, Chrissie left the world of sports in 2014 to focus on guiding service-based businesses toward utilizing social media in the most effective way. Chrissie, a self-proclaimed “social media nerd”, gets to focus on her favourite aspect of public relations. And, as a mother of 3, she appreciates being able to establish a more flexible work schedule by working for herself. Chrissie emphasizes authenticity, passion, and depth as the key elements needed for a productive online presence. Get the full show notes (and transcript) here. Do you ever have a tough time narrowing down what you say when you’re trying to tell people what you do? You know, because you don’t want to leave anything out? And you want to accurately convey what you’re good at? And then people just look at you blankly afterwards because they can’t even barely grasp it? Today you’ll hear from a past Clarity Challenger and member of my Be Unforgettable Bootcamp (and, ironically someone else who helps mission-driven entrepreneurs find and embody their message) about how gaining clarity on what she *really* does for clients – and it’s not her tools or process – resulted in higher sales conversions. And how you can apply this lesson to yourself! “I was entering conversations with potential clients and I almost wanted to say, 'Okay I know I’m really good, but I’m not really sure how to articulate how good I am. You’ll just know once I start.'” – Chrissie Wywrot Announcements: Are you signed up for my #ClarityChallenge yet? It starts on January 30th! (And if you went through the last round, it’s time for a clarity reset!) The #ClarityChallenge is a FREE guided 5-day experience to uncover what makes YOU stand out from the crowd so you can start pulling ideal clients and opportunities towards you. And it all happens in our private Facebook group for positive community energy where you can explore communicating what sets you apart in a safe, supportive space. Click here to join us, and I’ll send you what you need to get started with us! In today’s episode, you’ll learn: Why sharing a laundry list of what you’re good at does NOT convert potential clients during discovery calls How understanding the thread that connected all her work led to others valuing her work higher The difference between your tools and what you *really* do for clients Why clients can’t grasp how amazing we are until we learn how to communicate what we *really* do and why we’re so good at it Chrissie's links: Website Her article “Don’t worry about the gurus – just do you” Her article about the mega shift she made from my #ClarityChallenge Twitter LinkedIn Episode Insights: “What the Clarity Challenge helped me do was to put a label / brand on what I was good at because I was just sitting there saying, “Okay, I know I’m really good at what I’m doing, but I don’t know how to phrase it in a way that makes sense.” Yeah, I’m really good at social media, but that’s not the reason I’m good at social media. There’s another reason I’m good at it. What you pulled out of me was the reason of why I was good at what I was doing.” – Chrissie Wywrot “I’m a mother of three kids and if I heard an ad that said, “Hey women! Let’s buy this product.” I might listen, I might not, whatever. I’m a woman but, whatever. But if I heard an ad that said, “Hey! Women who are mothers of three children.” I’d be like, “Oh! Okay, well what is this? Is this for me?” And so, as long as the target you have is big enough when you target your messaging that specifically, you’re actually going to end up reaching more people.” – Chrissie Wywrot “Actually, what the Bootcamp help me do with the outset, was really help me work on my written message and articulating it. You kept saying, 2-3 lines or make it shorter. I’m going, “but I want to make sure I get everything in!” And it’s hysterical, because this is what I do for other people. You kept breaking it down and telling us to break it down even simpler and simpler.” – Chrissie Wywrot
