In short, using theme days helps us be more intentional with our time. Our first step in implementing theme days is discovering what matters most to you! Not what you should do, but what you truly want to do! So my encouragement to you is to think of the major priorities in your week that need to be done. What are things you do every single week in this season of your life that you could fit into a theme day? Grocery shopping? Meal planning? Scheduling appointments? Connecting with your kids, etc.? In eight short years, Athena went from being an avid interior designer to a real estate agent closing $22 million in real estate sales—all while battling serious health issues. She's created a career in real estate by being clever, creative, and learning to love the art of helping people. We begin this two-part series on theme days with a quote from The Lazy Genius… “No time is free—all time gets spent. So be intentional as to how you spend it.” It's with this quote in mind that I wanted to introduce you to something that has been so helpful for me, theme days. If the concept of theme days is new to you, a quick explanation: creating theme days is about giving each important task and everything that matters to us, a place in our schedules, so that we don't have to spend our time worried about when we are going to do that thing. By planning how we are going to spend our time, we won't end up reacting to the urgent and instead, living in more presence and peace…and who doesn't want more of that?! So where to start? On the podcast, our conversation today started with our thoughts. Why? Because that's where it all begins. Have you ever caught yourself thinking, “I don't have enough time….I am overwhelmed…I am stressed….When will I ever get it done?” All of us! Myself included. But what if we stopped and asked ourselves if those thoughts were serving us. Are they helpful? Am I getting more done by telling myself I don't have enough time? What if instead of just responding to what's urgent, we made a plan. And that plan is based on what actually matters to you. Not just what needs done right now, but what is important in YOUR life. Decide what matters, and work back from there. When you know what is important and you make a plan for it, then not as much will be urgent! Isn't that what we all want? You won't need to obsess over when you will do the most important things, since you already have a plan for them. Does this blow your mind too? This week, your homework is to think about how you want to spend your days! And what are your thoughts and are they serving you? But we often find ourselves saying "yes" to new projects that fill up our time, so the biz dev work has to be squeezed around the edges. How do you make time for both? We are back and how fun is this, Episode Number 22, and the topic is…..how to do it all! Running a business, running a household, raising our kids, being a good wife, being active, volunteering at school and everything else we have to do as a mother, a wife and a business owner. It often seems like a sheer impossibility. We both know and will be the first to tell you all that we are far from perfect. However this is the one thing we get asked over again, "How do you do it all?" So here it comes…… We don’t do it all! Sorry but that mythical ideology of everything being balanced and in order and running smoothly is just a pipe dream. We struggle just like you do. There are times things are running amazing, clients are paying on time, kids are behaving, date nights with the hubby but then things turn in a blink of an eye. However we have worked on us and our time management and we have a few routines and rules that we follow in order to try to stay on track and use the little time most effectively, especially when it comes to our businesses. You generally find that pictures and words go together very well - that was certainly the case for Liz Painter, as she describes in this week’s episode of ScaleUp Radio. Liz was working with her husband - a photographer - and she was providing the copy to accompany his images, using her skills acquired from her background as a journalist. From that, Liz began getting more and more copy work away from journalism - so much so that she set up her own copywriting business. That’s when Comma Comma was born. Well, y’all, after 19 podcast episodes, I’m finally feeling like I’m starting to get my feet underneath me and feel more comfortable with this whole podcasting. So, even though it scared me a lot, this is the first episode where I didn’t plan out every word I was going to say. That’s a big deal for me as one of my big goals for this year is to be as comfortable on the podcast as I am on live video… but I keep reminding myself that it took at least 30-50 live videos before I started feeling confident. So I know it will take time with the podcast, too. (In full disclosure, it’s good for my pride for me to put out episodes that aren’t at the level of excellence I’d love for them to be because I’m still finding my groove when it comes to doing pre-recorded audio — which is SO different to me than live video! And every time someone writes in about how they don’t like the podcast because they can tell I’m uncomfortable, it’s a good reminder for me to keep persevering and practicing and getting better!) So I’m celebrating that I took tiny baby steps with this episode and didn’t rely on word-for-word notes as a security blanket! 065: Create Your Ideal Schedule with Shannon Crow   Shannon was inspired to create an episode to answer a question she is frequently asked: How does she do it all?   Shannon is the first to say she has a packed schedule and that fitting everything in can certainly be a challenge. Over the years, working as an entrepreneur, Shannon has learned many tips and tricks and they're always evolving to help her create and implement her ideal schedule.   There are many questions asked, tools you can use, and further reading and resources that are mentioned in today's episode, but, don't feel you have to take everything on.  As Shannon says, pick just one thing to start; maybe something that would make the biggest impact or would be the easiest to incorporate into your life and work on that. Integrate that one thing and if you have that down you can return to this episode for another tool or resource.   In our busy world scheduling to use your time in an optimal way is quite a challenge. Remember not to be too hard on yourself- no one has this down to a science but a few tweaks in your planning might make a world of difference. When you're scheduling time off do you stick to it? Distractions from family, other work, etc interfering? You might be surprised by the turn out when you choose your best time.   14:45 What is your ideal yoga class? 1:1 or group classes? How many classes per week? In this, the first episode of the new season Martin welcomes Henry Evans of "Hour a Day Entrepreneur" fame and "Get Clear Marketing" as the season’s new co-host and they get right into the topic du jour, “Theme Days”. When you think about the most successful organizations they do one thing well: they are consistent! Consistency of behavior is achieved via a rhythmic, habit-pattern sort of scheduling that takes advantage of the natural rhythms in nature. Hence, we have a calendar and a clock. So, for instance, management teams will meet on Mondays. Or your gardener always shows up on a Tuesday and Church is always on Sunday. etc. Consider how you can employ the same idea to your productivity! The key question becomes, how are YOU going to establish a rhythm of behavior (habits) that support your or your organizations goals. Rhythmic behavior is a great way to SOLVE problems ensuring that problem areas get routine, systematic attention and treatment.
