Lucas J. Hatzisavas has several different aliases but as Reptant (@reptant_the_lizard) since 2017, he has really excelled. The Melbourne-based reptilian has spread his electro sounds far and wide on always classy labels from Kalahari Oyster Cult to Trust to Craigie Knowes. His acid-laced machine sounds are often jammed out live before being edited into tracks. They are imaginative, bristle with energy and feed into an alien lizard narrative he's built around the project, not least with his debut album Return To Planet X'trapolis. This week we're invited to peer through a window into that otherworldly universe with 60+ minutes of kinetic rhythms and cinematic sound designs. All shades of electro come up from sleazy and ghetto to sci-fi and smooth. Plenty of acid lines weave their way throughout as Reptant slithers from dark corners of the cosmos to strobe-lit dance floors amongst the stars.

Samara Alofa a.k.a GALOLEAFI is a producer, artist, and composer based in Tāmaki Makaurau. Samara moves between the intersections of Mythical Ambient Sea Siren, Queer Club Fantasy, Sexy Lesbian Librarian and Brown Boi Bullshit. Their self-produced EP 'Earth Punk' was released in 2020 with the Independent Label on Coco Solid and Big Fat Raro's label Kuini Qontrol. Tonight, they share a live mix of original music/beats, ambient soundscapes & experimental “M.C ing” // Vocals. The mix then transition to some of their favourite tracks, ranging from Queer club edits, electro alt and noise music. About this mix: "Often as Brown, Queer folk we find ourselves moving between the fantasies. We are our biological roots before we are Queer and most of us exist between the worldly realms and the mystical realms, especially when we are out. This mix to me is like a collage of memories and moments. Representing the duality that a lot of us and our 'Queer POC' collective resonate with. The beautiful, dark and spiritual essence of our night life, right along side the warm embrace of sticky club floors, blocked toilets, sweaty circut gays… and our ancestoral protection

Earlier this year we were presented with an intriguing release by Glasgow based record label Craigie Knowes. It was a curveball of sorts given the dancefloor ethos of the imprint and the prior material to have previously featured on the label. The leading light from the EP came in the form of a track titled "Say". A beautiful, haunting vocal inspired track with a sense of beautiful melancholy, not too dissimilar to the musical output of Andy Stott. The EP was the work of an up and coming producer and disc jockey, Eluize. A promising, elegant musician keen to blur the preconceptions of electronic music - layering the concept of 'song' above the moody, enchanted density of rugged analogue machinery. As such we invited her to record a mix for the site, an ambient affair perfect for a lazy easter monday...
This week we welcome Berlin based Aussie, Eluize into the mix. Playing alongside her last year at Hallo Montag we were taken in by the beauty and subtlety of her track selection, and at that point knew we needed to get her involved. Her debut LP on Craigie Knowes is a beautiful 7 track journey through voice and sound. A unique blend of Eluize's voice, drum machines and synthesis have built an album that flows between dancefloor hypnotics and melodies that throw you out to drift in a lonely cosmic ocean, and a lot of that expression is captured here in her mix. Tracklist: Nyma - Body Worx Ca$hminus - 生命还存在意义吗?(Cornelius Doctor Blackmarket Remix) - Cashminus Fede Lng - Looking From Above - Axe on Wax Oussama K - Two Thousand Years Later - That Place Low Tape - Easy Life - Of Paradise Eluize - Still - Craigie Knowes Xanga - This Is The Way It Starts (Henri Le Blanc Remix) - Taxx Legowelt - Golem Memory Bank - Clone ATTRAKTTA - Stay Frosty - FILM Doppelate - Four Feet Up The Stairs - Slam City Jams Wamdue Kids - These Branching Moments - Peacefrog Uabos - Karmic Souls - Bordello A Parigi Tempelhof, Gigi Masin, Jex Opolis - Corner Song (Jex Opolis Remix) - Tsuki Artist: @eluize
Cousins Joshua Doherty and Richard Bevan have been pushing tough underground electronic sounds since 2000. Making their name in part to a series of parties in an abandoned London Underground train station in the first half of the noughties, they founded Seed Records and more recently Balkan Vinyl and have released a steady stream of quality bangers, with a penchant for acid and old rave sounds. Doherty has been running 303-focused parties under the I Love Acid banner since 2007, and in recent years launched an accompanying label, where the likes of Luke Vibert, Snuff Crew, Cardopusher, Perseus Traxx and Affie Yusuf have all released tracks on a limited number of 303 vinyl copies. Their mix for us encompasses unreleased goodies, productions for the likes of Dixon Avenue Basement Jams, Hardfloor Records and Craigie Knowes, and plenty of varied licks. *How would you describe your sound?* Sci-fi acid house and hectic electro rave. *What and who inspires you and influences your sound?* Everything from classic house of Chicago and techno of Detroit in the ‘80s, through to European rave and techno in the ‘90s, and the explosion of genres and ideas since then all over the world. After 20+ years doing this, still having moments when you hear something new and instantly think "Wow, I want to write something with that vibe" *Can you tell us a little about this mix and what it means to you?* It features a lot of our dancefloor focused, high energy tracks from the last couple of years, plus some unreleased and upcoming gear (although the opening track is from a decade ago) This mix is along the vibes of the kind of set we are playing in clubs right now. Tracklist: Posthuman - Europa Sky [Uncharted Audio] Posthuman - Beat Down [I Love Acid] Posthuman - Transit System Error [Balkan] Posthuman - Exit Drums [Dixon Avenue Basement Jams] Posthuman - Centauri 303 [Hardfloor Records]* Posthuman - Rejektacid [unreleased] Posthuman - Steal The Show [Craigie Knowes] Posthuman - Airwave Uranium [X-Kalay]* Posthuman - Down 2 Jakk [Craigie Knowes] Posthuman - Telekom 99 [unreleased] Posthuman - Gods Of Technology [Balkan] Posthuman - Damocles Syndicate [Shipwrec] Posthuman - The Contract [Acid Avengers] *forthcoming releases
Derek Carr is an Irish techno enthusiast who’s been churning out top quality tracks for well over ten years now, with some impressive past releases on the likes of Headspace Records and Omni Music. The deep techno veteran has hit a purple patch in 2018 with a string of top class productions, seeing him put out EPs with Ferox Records and the notorious Craigie Knowes imprint. We were thrilled when he agreed to come on board and as expected he's provided us with a top class mix. Get stuck in. Artist: https://www.facebook.com/derekcarrproducer/

The rising Glasgow based duo behind the Craigie Knowes label and party series deliver an unflinching assault of acid, electro and broken atmospheric moments with full effect. Interview with @craigie-knowes: melbournedeepcast.net/portfolio/craigie-knowes Max: I played a lot of upcoming stuff from some of my favorite new labels for the first 35 mins or so. It's just stuff I thought went well together. Electro from Australia, garagey stuff, some breaky stuff. Played a few from Credit 00s recent EP on his Rat Life label, a definite favorite from me. Mitch: I went with a fairly wide blend of old and new stuff. A classic Bam Bam acid track, some stuff on Brokntoys which has been one of my favourite labels over the past few years, a Storage Media track on Ebeamz which went under the radar last year. Then a couple of brand new records I got through my door that day including the new Redlight record from UTTU. We basically just put a mix together we felt we would play in the club.

Roll up, roll up, roll up! Strap yourself in as Glasgow via Perth is about to get down... Craigie Knowes is a record label which has amassed a reputation for furious club cuts purpose built for the dancefloor, all with a smile and the shake of a hand. Since 2015 the label has released a prolific array of music from the likes of Dj Overdose, Deep Space Orchestra, Natureboy Gold, Textasy and more. Beyond this they have also released two stellar compilations in support of the charity War Child of which the likes of Legowelt, Shanti Celeste, Move D and Yoshinori Hayashi all supported and featured.
