The second omnibus volume of Mitsuru Adachi's Cross Game focuses largely on a scrimmage between the varsity team and the “portables”, which doesn't go how anyone expects it to. Things are shifting subtly under the surface; we're pretty sure what the series is leading up to (it's a baseball manga, after all), but it's fun … Continue reading #827 “Cross Game” Omnibus 2: Subtle Shifts

Mitsuru Adachi's Cross Game is a baseball manga for people who don't care about baseball. A tragedy early in the story helps to shape the narrative, but there's also a good dose of unexpected comedy, and sequences that really make us want to cheer for Ko and his friends as they work toward the goal … Continue reading #813 “Cross Game”: Baseball manga that's not about baseball (much)

Terrain is an essential part of the tabletop hobby. What kind you use and how you get it can throw up a few dilemmas, though. Do you make or buy your buildings and scenery? And do you go ultra-realistic but limited, or for a "wooden blocks" approach that can become literally anything you need it to?As we're usually limited in our terrain collections for any one genre, I'm talking on this episode about the idea of cross-game campaigns. This gives us the opportunity to tell a sweeping and cinematic story, as opposed to hanging around outside the same three farmhouses for all eternity.
In which our heroes discuss the hiatus, why Will smith is an asshole, his kids too, also his second wife, JK Rowling becoming an astro TERF, thirst traps, kinks, way too much rope, Tyler being a snowflake-born woke-dork with no myspace, internet tiddies, kids these days, newborn twitter, Melvin is not allowed into Wyoming, Stein's gate, Cross Game, Rumiko Takahashi, Elden Ring, Kirby The Forgotten something (i forgot) and MUCH MUCH MORE. patreon: bonsaipop gfuel code: bpop google "bonsai pop"

Stacy Cross, is the founder and co- owner of The Comfort Killers LLC. Stacy started this brand immediately after walking out of a seminar on February 14, 2016 after looking around the crowded room realizing that she wasn't truly doing anything to control her life, finances, and destiny. “Don't get me wrong. Seminars are a good starting point to meet great people doing great things in business and life BUT at what point do we stop spectating and start creating? That is when I decided to Get Uncomfortable and stop BSing. It wasn't until then that my life really changed! The catalyst was ACTION.” As long as things are good enough, they will likely stay the same, as there is no incentive to change them. However when things become absolutely miserable to the point that life's current circumstance are intolerable, we will finally do something about it. I also don't believe that change comes from laying on a therapist's couch for 20 years going on about how wronged you were in your childhood. Rather than hearing yourself blame everything and everyone else for 20 years, stop and say, “That's it, I'm done with the story, the excuses, and the blame. It's time for me take responsibility and live the rest of my life differently.” That's what happened with Stacy Cross It is her mission in life to push people out of their comfort zone, take a chance, and really start living. This one’s been a long time coming…It was supposed to come after Cross Game, then I just didn’t get around to editing it. Then I decided that the top anime and movies lists should come first, so it just got pushed to the backburner. But never fear, Ink! Your suffering (ENJOYMENT!!) wasn’t for naught. I’m here to present everybody with the Taiiku Podcast’s greatest episode: Love Live School Idol Festival! To convince Ink (@AnimatedInk) to join in on the fun, I had to throw in Garden of Words, which he did a beautiful write up of over at Ani-Gamers. But I don’t regret that! Joining us is almost-regular Chris (@gokuffy) as we have a little fun talking about Shinkai and Love Live. Listen Show notes: 0:14 – We start the show! It’s Garden of Words time! Break time! 45:07 – We’re into Love Live talk! Much to Ink’s chagrin. 2:08:29 – I lied! There was more stuff I was supposed to edit in somewhere, but then I didn’t because I’m lazy. There’s a music buffer… That’s it! Next time, the artist formerly known as cyborgpop, Kyle (@ANewtypeCentury), and Chris join me for top movies of 2015!

I FORGOT TO EDIT THE EPISODE! And now it’s a couple days until libsyn resets and I’ll either have an unused month or edit everything in one day. So here we are! This time, I grab the Anime Nostalgia regulars Dawn (@bunnycartoon) and Heather (@CandyAppleCat) to join Space Opera Satellite and Bloodbath and Beyond cohost Casey (@MinovskyArticle) (and Casey’s cat) and myself to talk about Mitsuru Adachi’s Cross Game. Dawn, Casey, and I only read the manga for this and Casey has only read, I think. So we run the gamut of Cross Game! Final note: There’s a lot of random not-us-talking noise and I don’t have the mad skillz to edit that out when people are actively talking. Sorry! :/ Listen Show notes: 0:30 – We give Dawn a glorious introduction then we talk about Cross Game! 1:14:53 – Closing thoughts on Cross Game! We don’t actually do anything else. We were GONNA talk about Clueless because Casey loves the movie, but alas, life gets in the way. Next time, Casey! Next show is Garden of Words and Love Live with Ink (@AnimatedInk) and Chris (@gokuffy)!
It’s been a year since I started this podcast and enlisted Corey against his will to assist me. It’s been a year since the ill-recorded Chihayafuru episode (sorry about that…). A year since September 20, 2014. Ok, ok, I admit, it’s been more than a year but some stuff happened and we were delayed, alright! I said this was episode 12, but it’s actually 13 because some of those reasons. Also because Kate (@narutakiRT) asked about the Taisho Baseball Girls podcast a few times and I started to feel bad. Anyway, in this episode I wanted to do something special. I brought back the guests from the first episode – Kyle (@ANewtypeCentury) and Corey (the artist formerly known as cyborgpop) – and we counted down our top 10 anime of all time. Listen Show notes: 0:30 – We introduce ourselves and declare ourselves a publicly traded company. 4:28 – Number tens! 39:24 – Number nines! 58:11 – Number eights! 1:13:35 – Number sevens! Wherein I interrupt Kyle. I also think Kyle might have said two number sevens. Oh well. 1:49:11 – Number sixes! 2:15:01 – Number fives! 2:43:31 – Number fours! 3:03:42 – Number threes! 3:22:23 – Number twos! 3:44:19 – Number ones! Next time! Dawn (@bunnycartoon), Casey (@MinovskyArticle), and Heather (@CandyAppleCat) join me to talk Mitsuru Adachi’s Cross Game.

We’re here for the sports anime that’s not sports anime…wait, we did that already. Ok, we’re here for the tennis anime…wait, that’s not it either. I got it! We’re here for a special episode of the Taiiku Podcast where we’re talking about Clueless, the film from 1995 that is not at all sports or anime. Joining me in this episode are Dawn (@bunnycartoon) from Anime Nostalgia, Chris (@gokuffy), and Dana (@Izandra). Clueless megafan Casey (@MinovskyArticle) regrets to inform us that he was unable to attend even though I had the episode so he could talk about Clueless!! Oh well…next time… Listen Show notes: 0:30 – Introductions and how we came across Clueless! 22:41 – We start talking about incest! 28:12 – We actually get into the movie! 38:43 – We (and by we I mean Dawn) begin to recap the movie, as I question why I make so many show notes! And useage of exclamation marks. 1:29:20 – We went on a little tangent about David Bowie…I ripped it out because it didn’t really fit, but now there’s no transition. Oh well! Next real episode is Cross Game…or maybe something else. We’ll see!
We’re back and with new guest! I’m joined by returning champion Ink (@AnimatedInk) from Ani-Gamers, the Fandom Post, and Otaku USA and Kate (@narutakiRT) of the Reverse Thieves to talk about a show not from the 1920s, but set in the 1920s: Taisho Baseball Girls! I said it was episode 13, but I lied. This is episode 12. Listen Show notes: 0:30 – We talk about what we’ve been watching! We recorded this on September 8, so it’s only a little outdated. 10:52 – We start the main topic: baseball! Specifically Taisho baseball! Specifically Taisho Baseball Girls! Next time: More baseball with Cross Game.

Mitsuru Adachi's baseball manga is as exciting in its focus on the actual game as it is irritating with its romance between the protagonists.

Podcast manga review of Cross Game Volume 1 by Mitsuru Adachi. Translated by Ralph Yamada and Lillian Olsen. Originally published in Japan by Shogakukan. Published in US by Viz Shonen Sunday, $19.99, Rated T for Teen. From the back cover: "Cross Game is a moving drama that is hearfelt and true, yet in the brilliant hands of manga artist Mitsuru Adachi, delightfully flows with a light and amusing touch. The series centers around a boy named Ko, the family of four sisters who live down the street and the game of baseball. This poignant coming-of-age story will change your perception of what shonen manga can be. Three in one! Contains volumes 1,2,and 3 as released in Japan" My Grade: A+ Listen to the podcast below and also read Chapter 1 of Cross Game at http://media.viz.com/flash/omv/index.php?x=crossgame/omv01
Cross Game. Sweet, sweet Cross Game. It’s time to hit another OSMcast out of the park as we talk about Mitsuru Adachi’s Cross Game! That said, the only actual OSMcast player on this one is Basil, as everyone else was brought in from other podcasts. We’re joined by the Reverse Thieves: Hisui and Narutaki, as well as by Drew of Akihabra Renditions. So one could say it’s an All-Star team this episode. Also, it’s two hours long, probably because there was no one to keep Basil in check. Musical Interlude : Girl Talk! Drew’s Moment of OSM becomes the soundtrack to which this episode rocks to. Considering the mash-up nature of this episode, it is somewhat appropriate! OSMnotes You can stream Cross Game in anime form via Hulu, and you can purchase Cross Game in manga form from Amazon, among other retailers. And you should! It is amazing stuff, that will harm your heart and crush you soul, if you’d just let it! Also watch Sym-Bionic Titan. And Star Driver. Both are quality mecha-fied experiences that deliver top-notch giant robot but also kids in high school action. And if you happen to be in Huntsville, AL this weekend we’re helping throw a pretty awesome minicon on Saturday, where Basil will be running panels and DJ Inubito will be spinning beats.
