Amy is feeling frustrated and Kat is feeling exhausted, but they show up….so yay! First up, Michelle from Florida keeps a list in her phone of everyone she's feuding with and caps it at 10 people. Kat weighs in on whether that's actually unhealthy or more nuanced than it sounds. Then, Sam from Boston calls with a story about her mom's blind date that took a wild turn when her date showed up just to say his dad died and he had to leave, and they've now been happily married for 13 years. Amy then shares her one and only true blind date story and how that ended up! Amy & Kat also cover the top 20 most common lies we all tell, the real reason you shouldn't be on your phone at the gas pump, and a powerful voicemail from Brittany, who chose to respond with grace instead of anger when dealing with a toxic situation with her mom. In Blind Date (S1 E21 of Angel), attorney Lindsey McDonald comes to Angel to help save a group of children his evil law firm’s assassin plans to kill. Along with the recap of Blind Date, this podcast episode focuses on: (1) a strong origin-story-like subplot for the antagonist, Lindsey; (2) more than one character pushing against your protagonist; (3) themes of right and wrong, trust and relationships, and the reasons for our life choices; and (4) the episode rating from 0 to 10. For one glorious moment, Makerfield became the centre of the political universe, and what a moment it was.Jemma and Marina rewind the clock to relive Andy Burnham's emphatic by-election win, celebrate Robert Kenyon's spectacular defeat and ask whether Reform UK's momentum has finally hit a few inconvenient speed bumps. They also marvel at the increasingly surreal Sarah Pochin, wonder what Nigel Farage is plotting next and revel in some truly exceptional online reactions.Elsewhere, Prince William proves he's just like the rest of us by... sending Prince George to Eton, the Bell End of the Week competition reaches new heights, Cilla returns to play Blind Date with some familiar political faces and Russell Kane serves up this week's pudding.Politics, pomp, petty nonsense and plenty of laughs. Preeti Monga lebt in Delhi.
The Big Pig is back!As July, turned into August in 1985, the world was still basking in the afterglow of, what was already being called the event of the decade. No, not the ceasing production of the Sinclair C5, or even the latest episode of Blind Date with our Cilla. Live Aid had defined the coming together of all things pop for a generation, in the name of raising money for African famine. And those bands and artists who graced the stages in London and Philadelphia (well, perhaps not Adam Ant, as we say) were feeling the seismic effect of not only the public's affection - but also their pocket money. Duran Duran, Paul Young, Simple Minds, U2 and others (still, sorry , not you Adam) were enjoying plenty of success. And the loudest and most exciting shirt of the summer did not belong to BBC's Mark Ellen or David Hepworth, it was the iconic NOW pig. Yes, NOW That's What I Call Music 5 not only provided THE soundtrack to our summer in 1985, it also gave us the most gloriously techicoloured album cover. How exciting was that list of stars? And joining me for this episode to share his memories of this classic summer of music is journalist and author Graeme Thomson. And what can you expect? Duran Duran climb the Eiffel Tower. UK funk and soul makes a move for the charts through the fantastic sounds of Fine Young Cannibals, Simply Red and Jaki Graham. Graeme shares why 80s Bowie deserves attention, how Marillion (and a band T-Shirt!) made an early impact on his listening, what Jim Kerr told him about Don't You Forget About Me and why U2 needed to evolve to survive. But significantly, join us as we discuss how compilation albums take us back, tell real stories of a period and revel in how important pop music for all of us in our formative years and has the ability to stay with us as we move through our lives. And enjoy Graeme's reflections on his latest book, In Another World: The Four Seasons of Talk Talk, and the iconic sounds of a quite unique band.Step aside from life in 2026 for an hour or so, and join us back in a time when it really was great to be alive. Its another edition of our Blind Date Diary concept as we cover WCW SuperBrawl 1, from May 19, 1991!! This fresh set of eyes watched this show for the very first time from start to finish recently and let me tell ya, there's a lot of crap on this card!!! But there's also some decent stuff and a really great tag team title match featuring Sting/Lex Luger vs The Steiner Brothers!!! Hear how this show fares in the eyes of one Dave Rosenbluth. Plus, I'll also get into the internet's meltdown over Brock Lesnar's return recently and the AI photo I posted to our social media page!! Enjoy!!!
Marina and Jemma dive into the chaos surrounding Tommy Robinson's “Unite the Kingdom” rally, from the anti-Muslim rhetoric and media silence to the genuinely astonishing musical performances that may qualify as crimes against audio. They unpack why anger and misinformation spread so easily online, question where the press coverage disappeared to, and look at what happens when algorithms replace shared reality. There's also Led By Donkeys trolling the march to perfection, a powerful response from faith leaders and broadcasters, and - because balance is important - perhaps the bleakest edition of Blind Date ever recorded.Funny, furious and occasionally despairing, this episode asks: what kind of country are we becoming… and why was that singing so catastrophically bad?Thank you for sharing and please do follow us @MarinaPurkiss @jemmaforte @TheTrawlPodcast Patreonhttps://patreon.com/TheTrawlPodcast Youtubehttps://www.youtube.com/@TheTrawl Twitterhttps://twitter.com/TheTrawlPodcastIf you've even mildly enjoyed The Trawl, you'll love the unfiltered, no-holds-barred extras from Jemma & Marina over on Patreon, including:• Exclusive episodes of The Trawl Goss – where Jemma and Marina spill backstage gossip, dive into their personal lives, and often forget the mic is on• Early access to The Trawl Meets…• Glorious ad-free episodesPlus, there's a bell-free community of over 3,300 legends sparking brilliant chat. And it's your way to support the pod which the ladies pour their hearts, souls (and occasional anxiety) into. How to make money playing the role you were born to play: yourself. Or in other words: learn that the skills you have gained as an actor are of value beyond the script. A deep dive into what skills you have as a performer that can be monetized in other ways including corporate work as an MC, hosting children's shows, game shows and light entertainment with ongoing high profile warm up audience work. Michael worked as an actor on both stage and screen for several years. 1984 was a turning point as he began an on-air career as a television presenter, hosting children's shows, game shows and light entertainment. What followed was a decade of profile building which opened opportunities in the corporate space as host and emcee of Award Nights, conferences, product launches and the like. Work that he continues to this day. 1990 saw another sideways turn as audience warm-up for Blind Date. More shows followed and Michael soon became the go-to-guy for audience warm-up for everything from The Voice, Australia's Got Talent, Mad As Hell and sitcoms such as Acropolis Now, and All Together Now. He continues in this role now on Tipping Point – celebrating 35 continuous years applying the performance skills he learnt as an actor, to this arena. Along the way he has worked as Breakfast Radio host and has created television programs and produced others such as The Price Is Right, Bert's Family Feud and Comedy Slapdown. AI horror, demonic deals, graveyard horror, undead revenge, and creepy psychological terror collide in this Ides of March installment from the Weekly Spooky horror podcast. If you love scary stories, supernatural horror, occult suspense, vampire-style graveyard chills, and modern nightmares about technology turning against us, this collection is built to hit every nerve. In this episode, a writer discovers that artificial intelligence can become something far more invasive—and far more dangerous—than a helpful tool. A deadly mistake on a dark road spirals into an occult revenge nightmare that refuses to stay buried. A promising night out twists into a demonic first date from hell, where desire, danger, and ritual all collide. And deep in the cemetery, greed leads two men straight into a grave-robbing horror story where the dead are anything but powerless. In this episode (in order):• “I used to think AI was wonderful. Now I know it's evil.” — by Michael Kelso A writing shortcut becomes a nightmare when the tech starts watching… predicting… and finally acting.• “Dead Ahead” — by Joe Solmo A body in the pines. A shoveled secret. And a ritual that turns guilt into something that can walk back out of the dirt.• “The Blind Date” — by Joe Solmo A goth romance fantasy curdles into a graveyard pact—because some dates aren't looking for love… they're looking for a third soul.• “The Grave Robbers” — by Bruce Haney A quick cemetery score turns into old-world hunger, blood-soaked greed, and a ride that doesn't come with brakes—or mercy. This Ides of March compilation is packed with creepy AI horror, dark supernatural fiction, demon horror, graveyard terror, undead suspense, and the kind of doom-soaked consequences that make horror so satisfying. If you like your horror stories with cursed choices, sinister turns, and punishments that come crawling back out of the dark, press play and keep the lights low.
