The women in Jesus' genealogy represent specific stories. Matthew's account of this genealogy is like a family history for the Hebrews. The story of David and Bathsheba is one of the darkest and saddest stories in the Bible. King David committed adultery with Bathsheba, she conceived, and David murdered her husband Uriah to cover up his sin. Satan was at work before Bethlehem to stop the promised Seed of Genesis 3:15! From the moment God promised the “seed of the woman” would one day bruise the head of the serpent, Satan had been trying to stop the “Seed” before He could even be born. In the Davidic Covenant, God had promised King David that one day, one of his “seed” would establish his kingdom and his throne forever. Twelve generations after King David, King Jeconiah was so wicked that God cursed him, promising none of his sons would ever sit on David's throne. Because God cursed Jeconiah's line, (Jesus' legal lineage) David and Bathsheba were both direct ancestors of both Mary and Joseph! Joseph through David's son Solomon and Mary through David's son Nathan. Because Jesus was virgin born, He was not David's seed through His earthly father, but rather His mother! Why doesn't Matthew mention Bathsheba by name in the genealogy of Jesus? In Christ, God no longer sees our sins and will one day give us a brand-new name! Bathsheba's name isn't written because God has given her a new name. God has a new name for you if you will repent of your sin and turn to Him. In today's conversation, we're going to take a bit of a sharp turn, as we fast-forward to a rather unexpected story in the life of David—the story of David and Bathsheba. We'll face the reality that if we're not careful, comfortability can breed complacency—and unchecked complacency can be a dangerous enemy. We'll discuss why it is sometimes much easier for us to spot the sin in others than to see the plank of sin stuck in our own eye; and we'll wonder, once again, at the faithfulness of God to chase us down in order to draw us back to Himself. We'll ponder the necessity of heartfelt repentance, and we'll be filled with overwhelming gratitude that God sent Jesus to pay the penalty for us—the One whose righteous blood fully covers our multitude of sins to wash us white as snow. So, pull up a chair at our table, and let's dive into the conversation.
We continue our sermon series on David, The Imperfect Anointed. Pastor Jonker will preach on 2 Samuel 11:1-27. That's the story of David and Bathsheba, an important turning point in David's reign.

Psalm 51:1-19
We have great sin. God has greater grace. That about sums up the Bible. Listen to that play out in part 2 of David and Bathsheba with Pastor John Boggs.
Pastor Christian Root begins the series The Life of David, referencing 2 Samuel 11:1-17.
2 Sam. 11-12; Discussing the topic of adultery, we talk about David and Bathsheba and look deeper into the temptations that steer us away from the will of God in our lives. After being confronted with his sin, David draws closer to the father. Something that all of us need to do more.
When temptation matures into sin, and shame tries to cover it up instead of repenting with a humble heart, likely more sin and pain will result. What can we expect to happen when God's chosen leaders have sinful encounters in times of spiritual conflict? A Sermon by Andrew Colman on 2 Samuel: 11 & John 6: 1-21
Pastor John Murphy examines King David's life, highlighting his triumph over Goliath and his sin with Bathsheba, to illustrate the slow progression and devastating consequences of sin. It emphasizes that sin is a rebellion against God's authority, leading to deception, increased desire, and destruction. Despite David's grave sins, God's presence and grace offer true repentance and forgiveness, urging personal reflection on one's sin and the pursuit of God's grace through Jesus.

Today Sully Deel covers the story of David and his poor series of decisions that led him to sleep with Bathsheba as well as the decisions he made after the fact. He also talks about how David came back from the depths of sim and death to recover his relationship with the Lord.
As humans we naturally want to hide or cover up things we have done wrong or make us uncomfortable. This truth goes all the way back to the Garden of Eden. This response often leads to even more damage and sin in our lives and those around us.

2 Samuel 11-12, Psalm 51
Anyone can fall into a hidden trap. Walking through a wooded area and stepping on false ground will result in a fall. But if the danger was highlighted by signs and marked by ropes, it would be foolish to ignore the warnings and step over the rope. That's what David does. Dr. John points to the steps David took and the warnings he ignored as he gazed upon Bathsheba. Lust clothed in arrogance led David to adultery, lies and murder. This was no fall. It was a jump. Life Lessons From King David: What do you think about when King David comes to mind? Do you think of a man after God's own heart? Or perhaps a mighty king of Israel who, just like us, had a sinful nature. In this 10-message series from Back to the Bible Canada, join Dr. John Neufeld in part 2 of his study of David, Life Lessons from David: The Man, The King. There is so much to be learned from the life of this Israelite king—the good, the bad, and the ugly. These lessons are still just as relevant today as they were back in the time of David, so sit back, listen, and be inspired by the life of David, and all that we can learn from his time on earth.
