From Sparks to Light - Inspiring Stories for Challenging Times
Today we're talking to D'Lynda Fischer, a city council member for the city of Petaluma, a community in northern California about 45 minutes north of the Golden Gate Bridge. But the truth is, this could be a conversation about any community across America, and many places in the world as well. This is a conversation about climate, about our environment and the steps we can take to make a difference in the world we live in. We talk about honoring the planet and paying attention to the choices we make. It's about living intentionally so that our children, grandchildren and the generations to come have a place to call home. I learned so much during this conversation. For one thing, (and I'm slightly embarrassed to admit this) I've never actually been to a city council meeting, in this city or in any other of the many places I've lived. Perhaps I should have, because the more we know about what goes on at city hall, the more we can demand that our elected officials make decisions that benefit all of us. This conversation allowed things to come together for me, like the pieces of a puzzle that I'd struggled to understand. Does recycling really matter? Are paper straws better than plastic? It all felt so insignificant, but this conversation left me feeling energized, with actual steps I can take to help my community become carbon neutral and it left me wanting to learn more.D'Lynda grew up in a politically active family in the foothills of Anchorage, Alaska. She became an adult while living in New York City and migrated to Southern California where she had a successful career as an Urban Planning Consultant. She moved to Sonoma County nine years ago and worked as a consultant to non-profit environmental organizations. She is passionate about healthy food systems, connected communities, and being a leader in this changing world. To learn more about D'Lynda Fischer you can check out her website. To learn about the Cool City Challenge, check out coolpetaluma.org.Read Social Change 2.0 - A Blueprint for Reinventing our World by David Gershon. To learn more about Robert Maggio, the composer of our theme music, please check out his website. To learn more about the inspiration for this podcast, please check out Suzanne's memoir, Estrellas - Moments of Illumination Along El Camino de Santiago. Peace On Earth by 2030 Game Guests: David Gershon and Suzanne De Gregorio What if peace on earth was actually possible? The planet’s wisdom keepers tell us that when ½ of 1% of humanity wholeheartedly believe peace on earth is possible (40 million people), there will be enough coherence of thought and emotion to shift our collective consciousness to make this a reality. With each DreamKeeper activating 2 new DreamKeepers a year, and every POE Zone activating 2 new POE Zones a year we will reach 40 million DreamKeepers and a POE Zone in every city and town in the world by 2030. David Gershon and Suzanne De Gregorio are here to tell us all about Peace On Earth by 2030 Game. “We are building a movement of DreamKeepers—those who believe peace on earth is possible and are committed to making it a reality —empowered with the seven actions that enabled the First Earth Run to unite the world and create peace on earth over its 86-day journey. These actions are designed as a global game that will take place between 2020 and 2030.” In 1986 at the height of the cold war a torch of peace was passed around the world. The First Earth Run, in partnership with the United Nations Children’s Fund directly engaged twenty-five million people and 45 heads-of-state in 62 countries. The initiative, entitled the First Earth Run, came to be seen as one of the great success stories about what can be accomplished in our world with the power of imagination and the commitment of dedicated individuals. The unique conditions that allowed it to succeed then are once again present now. We are once again facing a similar fear and contraction in the world, which is again creating a comparable pressure toward expansion and transformation. I hope that this story will prove instructive, inspiring the imagination and will of many around the world to enter into this opening. To enable this it concludes with “7 Actions to Change the World.” https://peace2030.earth/ https://youtu.be/YveUgAyJoLo https://www.empowermentinstitute.net/peace-on-earth David Gershon is the author of ten books, including the best-selling Empowerment: The Art of Creating Your Life As You Want It and Low Carbon Diet: A 30-Day Program to Lose 5,000 Pounds, winner of the "Most Likely to Save the Planet" Independent Publisher Book Award Suzanne De Gregorio graduated from the University of Kentucky with a political science degree, concentrating in International Relations. Over the past twenty-five years she has advocated for disability access, the environment, civil liberties, health and wellness, and peace causes. Suzanne and other Kentucky special needs parents were instrumental in getting a form of medical cannabis legalized through the Kentucky state legislature. She contributed to the Nautilus Silver Award winning book, "Dreams That Can Save Your Life: Early Warning Signs of Cancer and Other Diseases". What is Conscious Enterprise and Social Change? Gino Pastori-Ng writes, “Tranforming the global, exploitation-based economy into an equitable and life-affirming system for collective well-being is the greatest challenge humanity has ever faced. We can map every current societal problem to our economic model, which treats life itself as a commodity.” Rinaldo Brutoco and David Gershon, co-authors of Our Moment of Choice, join Dr. Julie to talk about the core principles of social change and re-inventing business and the planet for the good of the whole.

He is putting this aspiration and second order knowledge into action through a bold plan to change the world called: “Reinventing the Planet.” David Gershon, co-founder and CEO of Empowerment Institute has been called “the number one expert on social change.” He applies his visionary leadership and social change expertise to designing second order change solutions for cities, countries and the planet that enable the seemingly impossible to become possible. Over the past four decades the initiatives he's designed have won many awards and achieved much recognition. David has dedicated his life to empowering humanity to believe we can create the world of our dreams and designing the strategies and tools to help us make this a reality. He is putting this aspiration and second order knowledge into action through a bold plan to change the world called: “Reinventing the Planet.” --- this is one of those conversations that you just have to listen to. it was unique not only in the conversation we had but in the ability and flexibility of David, a brilliant man to be kind and generous enough to change direction midstream with me and move away from what most if not everyone wants him to share, to answer my quirky questions and to challenge his own edges. let me prepare you, David is not like most people. the world he sees is different from the world most of us see, because he asks different questions. for instance, instead of asking what wrong with the world and how can we fix it? he simply asks, “what is possible?” it is amazing to see how the questions we ask give us the answers we follow. try asking new and different questions. David invites people to grow beyond the edges and watch what happens when i ask David what is beyond the edge of his own growth right now? i highly encourage you to visit his websites and spend some time there getting to know David and the amazing innovations he is creating with the people who associate with him . . to find out more about David please go to: reinventing.earth peace2030.earth https://www.empowermentinstitute.net #AgendalessConversation #TheMosaic #TheMosaicPodcast #50ConversationsWith50Strangers #DanielBruceLevin #DavidGershon #Listen #SeeMe #ReinventingEarth #peace2030 #EmpowermentInstitute #GrowBeyondTheEdges to learn more about Daniel B. This week on Relationships 2.0 my guest is Gail Straub author of The Ashokan Way: Landscape’s Path into Consciousness About the book: The natural world has the power to awaken, restore, and transform us, and nowhere are these capacities more evident than in the thirty-six luminous essays that make up The Ashokan Way. Written in the form of journal entries that take place over the course of a year, the essays explore both the outer landscapes of the awe-inspiring Ashokan Reservoir, a vast open space surrounded by the ancient bluestone peaks of the Catskill Mountain Watershed, and the equally awe-inspiring inner landscapes of our own most personal terrains. Each of the book’s evocative entries describes a walk along the ever-changing reservoir, illuminating the natural world as a portal to self-understanding, restoration, and meaning. Some walks take us deep inside to trek the hills and valleys of our aspirations and sorrows, our joys and confusions. Others offer a profound antidote to an interior landscape that has become crowded with distraction and overstimulation. Still others seem to seem usher us into the realm of the mystical. As surely as we would perish without the water and air that the earth provides, we are at risk of perishing without the spiritual sustenance that the natural world provides through its ability to stir and astonish us. In a world that is ever faster, noisier, and busier, The Ashokan Way is a balm, an inspiration, and an invitation to discover greater intimacy with inner and outer landscapes alike. About the author: Gail Straub is the Executive Director of the Empowerment Institute, which she co-founded in 1981. As one of the world’s leading authorities on women’s empowerment, she co-directs the Empowerment Institute’s School for Transformative Social Change empowering change agents from around the world to design and implement cutting-edge social innovations.
