POPULARITY
He was rich. He was connected. He had good hair, a BMW, and Hollywood blood in his veins. But none of that mattered — because Elliot Rodger couldn't get laid. This is the story of privilege, rejection, rage, and the birth of a dangerous online movement.Source Material:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6e3n0Q1QDXghttps://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Incelhttps://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014_Isla_Vista_killingshttps://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starbuckshttps://amp.theguardian.com/us-news/2015/feb/20/mass-shooter-elliot-rodger-isla-vista-killings-reporthttps://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elliot_Rodgerchrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/https://schoolshooters.info/sites/default/files/ISLAVISTAINVESTIGATIVESUMMARY.pdfhttps://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-transcript-ucsb-shootings-video-20140524-story.htmlhttps://www.nytimes.com/video/us/100000002900707/youtube-video-retribution.htmlMusic Credit:1. Incel Extremism EXPOSED, From Elliot Roger to Bryan Kohberger In this special conclusion to our five-part deep dive, we bring together everything we've uncovered about the incel phenomenon—from its toxic digital roots to the real-world trail of blood it's left behind. This episode unpacks how loneliness, rejection, entitlement, and misogyny have merged into one of the most disturbing and violent ideologies of the internet age. We trace the timeline from Elliot Rodger's 2014 Isla Vista massacre—where he filmed his manifesto and became a cult figure in incel circles—through to copycat killers like Alek Minassian, Scott Beierle, and more. These aren't random killers. They're men who felt entitled to women's attention, rejected by society, and validated by online echo chambers that turned their self-pity into shared rage. And then there's the case of Bryan Kohberger—accused in the 2022 Idaho student murders. Though not confirmed to be an incel, his background paints a chilling portrait of social isolation, rejection, misogynistic behavior, and creepy patterns eerily aligned with known incel killers. We break down the evidence, the speculation, and why it matters—because even without a manifesto, the patterns are there. This isn't just a true crime breakdown. It's a look at how misogynistic extremism festers in online forums, how it radicalizes vulnerable young men, and why law enforcement is now calling it a domestic terror threat. If we want to stop the next Kohberger, the next Rodger—we need to understand how they're made. This is the final chapter. Watch it all come together. #Incel #BryanKohberger #ElliotRodger #AlekMinassian #TrueCrimeAnalysis #MisogynisticExtremism #BlackpillCulture #MassViolence #ToxicMasculinity #IncelTerrorism Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Elliot Rodger: The Supreme Gentleman Who Sparked a Killing Ideology | Day of Retribution Exposed Description: Before school shooters were idolized online and mass murderers had fan clubs, there was Elliot Rodger. In Part 2 of our deep-dive series, we dissect the 2014 Isla Vista massacre and the chilling manifesto that launched a movement. Rodger didn't just murder six people and injure 14 others—he filmed his rage, wrote a 137-page incel bible, and turned himself into a martyr for angry, entitled men online. He called it the “Day of Retribution.” Incels call him “Saint Elliot.” We break down how Rodger's hatred of women, social rejection, and deep narcissism made him the face of a new kind of domestic terrorism—one rooted not in religion or politics, but in misogyny and entitlement. We explore the language of his video, the themes of his manifesto, and how his actions inspired a wave of copycat killers. We also examine the missed red flags, from YouTube rants to police visits, that might've prevented it all. Elliot Rodger wanted the world to understand his pain. Unfortunately, thousands of men online still do—and some are ready to follow in his bloody footsteps. This is the true story of how one man's warped worldview became a global threat. #ElliotRodger #DayOfRetribution #IncelKillers #MisogynistTerrorism #TrueCrimeBreakdown #MassShooterProfile #IncelMartyr #BlackpillCulture #RedFlagMissed #SupremeGentleman Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Isla Vista streets and sidewalks are becoming more pedestrian, cyclist and ADA friendly, thanks to safety improvements funded by Measure A (money dedicated to countywide transportation improvements). KCSB's Clarissa Hom speaks with Lauren Bianchi Klemann with the SB County Association of Governments (SBCAG) to learn more. Then, a recap of this year's UCSB GIVE Sale, a community-wide sale that keeps tons of waste from hitting local landfills when students move out of IV for summer. UCSB's Viviana Marsano offers this update.
The digital world has become a hunting ground where algorithms serve as silent recruiters, pulling vulnerable young men toward misogynistic ideologies at alarming speeds. This eye-opening conversation with experts Laura Frombach and Joy Farrow reveals the disturbing reality of how technology amplifies hatred against women and girls. When researchers created a fake social media account for a 16-year-old boy, the algorithm began serving misogynistic content within just 23 minutes. This isn't coincidence – it's systematic grooming at an algorithmic level. While human predators might take months to isolate and indoctrinate victims, today's AI-powered platforms accomplish the same goal with frightening efficiency through data-backed feedback loops that constantly refine their effectiveness. The most troubling aspect is how this online radicalization translates directly into real-world violence. We examine three chilling case studies where digital hate found deadly physical expression, including the notorious Isla Vista killings by Elliot Roger and the Parkland High School shooting. These weren't isolated incidents caused by individual pathology alone – they represent the culmination of algorithmic radicalization pathways that validate and amplify harmful ideologies. For parents, educators and concerned citizens, addressing this crisis requires immediate action. Our experts provide practical strategies for engaging with youth about their online activities, teaching comprehensive media literacy, and effectively intervening when someone shows signs of radicalization. Most importantly, they emphasize the need to "call out the content but call in the viewer" – recognizing that many drawn to toxic content are primarily seeking connection rather than hatred itself.
In 2014, in the college town of Isla Vista, California, a 22-year-old man killed six people and injured 14 others before killing himself. He didn't suddenly “snap” one day out of the blue; he planned the attack and spiraled into crisis in the years leading up to it. The horrific incident left violence prevention experts wondering: What were the missed warning signs? One person who held some of the answers was the killer's mother, Chin Rodger. She has long avoided the media, fearing that speaking publicly would only hurt the victims' families more. But more than a decade later, she's come to see a greater purpose—that sharing what she knows about her son's behavior before the attack could help others identify similar warning signs and prevent further violence. “I hope that my hindsight will be your foresight,” she says. This week on Reveal, Rodger talks publicly for the first time with Mother Jones reporter Mark Follman. By confronting and sharing the painful memories and evidence her son, Elliot, left behind, Rodger has contributed to the field of threat assessment—teams of people who specialize in collecting information on possible threats, connecting the dots, and intervening before tragedy strikes. EPISODE 136 | Incel-ation Some say there's a crisis of masculinity, or maybe it's just that there's still a lot of misogyny in our culture. Whatever the causes, one thing is clear – there are some young men out there who have difficulty interacting with women while also buying into the narrative that sex and female attention is somehow their right. And every once in a while, one of these guys goes postal, and violence is the result. This is the sad and sometimes scary world of incels. Like what we do? Episode 353: On April 23, 2018, a bright spring afternoon turned into a nightmare when a rented van plowed through pedestrians along Yonge Street in North York, a Toronto neighbourhood. In just minutes, 10 lives were tragically lost, and 16 others were injured; one of those later passed away from her injuries, bringing the death toll to 11. The community was left mourning, and the country grappled with questions of how and why such a senseless act could occur. The man behind the wheel was 25-year-old Alec Minassian, a self-proclaimed member of the so-called "incel" community—short for "involuntary celibate." This online subculture, rooted in misogyny and resentment, has been linked to acts of violence, often targeting women. Minassian's actions that day were not random; they were a calculated act of terror fueled by a toxic ideology that glorifies hatred and violence against those perceived as rejecting or oppressing men like him. In part 2 of our manosphere series, Jamie takes a look at what the manosphere has become since it became a mainstream topic a decade ago. She traces its media and in-community responses from Gamergate and the Isla Vista killings, through the first Trump administration, into the #MeToo era, around the Kavanaugh hearings, and all the way to manosphere podcasts being name-checked at the second Trump acceptance speech. How has this space mutated to enter our governing -- or was it always that way? Part 3 releases this Thursday. Listen to Boys Like Me (on the Toronto van attack): https://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/boys-like-me/id1596370720?at=1l3vpUI&ct=LFV_4ba3316d6e3d7eb6707b80c71864cc16&itsct=catchall_podcast_show&itscg=30440&ls=1 Feels Good Man: https://www.feelsgoodmanfilm.com/ More on the Black manosphere: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4y0nR0E8pk4&list=PLCloiJ2glw55nFdhlvB0ojBYIWKzROjbv&index=4See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
The manosphere isn't just one of the election's biggest trending topics, it's also one of the biggest outputters of internet main characters -- so why have most of the conversations around it been so unproductive? In our first part of our series on the manosphere, Jamie interrogates the flawed ways in which media is talking about this space, and traces its origins from the 1970s all the way to Gamergate and the Isla Vista shootings. New Parking On November 12th, the IVCSD adopted a new parking plan designed to improve the parking conditions of Isla Vista. Here's KCSB's Sofia Aliamus with a breakdown of the upcoming action plan.
It's been an emotional month for a lot of people, including students and Isla Vista residents. With the recent national election, it's easy to feel the lingering effects of stress and anxiety. According to the Los Angeles Times, more than 73% of Americans say that they feel stressed about the election, and that 65% of us feel exhausted when thinking about politics. This seems to be a hard-hitting issue, especially among young people and their futures. KCSB's ALice Dehghanzadeh spoke with Dr. Turi Honegger, clinical director and psychologist at UC Santa Barbara's Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) to dive further into the topic, specifically on how to manage this post-election stress.
Students at UCSB took a step towards more sustainable fashion by participating in the IVTP's “Three for Free” event. The campaign, aimed at reducing clothing waste and making fashion more accessible, marked the first of several planned events this year where students can refresh their wardrobes in eco-friendly ways.

In 2014, in the college town of Isla Vista, California, a 22-year-old man murdered six people and injured 14 others before killing himself. The killer didn't suddenly “snap” one day out of the blue; he planned the attack and spiraled into crisis in the years leading up to it. The horrific incident left violence prevention experts wondering: What were the missed warning signs? One person who held some of the answers was the killer's mother, Chin Rodger. She has long avoided the media, fearing that speaking publicly would only hurt the victims' families more. But 10 years later, she's come to see a greater purpose – that sharing what she knows about her son's behavior before the attack could help others identify similar warning signs and prevent further violence.By confronting and sharing the painful memories and evidence her son, Elliot, left behind, Rodger has contributed to the field of threat assessment – teams of people who specialize in collecting information on possible threats, connecting the dots and intervening before tragedy strikes. This week on Reveal, Rodger talks publicly for the first time with Mother Jones reporter Mark Follman. If you read his Manifesto, Elliot Rodger would portray himself as a tortured soul. Downtrodden. Passed over. But in reality, he would turn out to be someone full of hate. Full of bitterness. And this hate was directed at woman, due to them rejecting his advances towards them. And that hate would build over time, and would result in what is known as the Isla Vista Killings. . https://www.horrorhousetruecrime.com/ https://www.buymeacoffee.com/hhpod Insta: @horrorhouse_pod .
