Prior to his retirement in 2022, his positions included Associate Dean of Faculty at Northeastern's Bouvé College of Health Sciences, Acting Dean of the Northeastern's School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chair of the Northeastern's Department of Pharmacy and Health Systems Sciences; John R. Ellis Distinguished Chair of Pharmacy Practice at Drake University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences; and Vice-chair of Pharmacy Practice at Midwestern University Chicago College of Pharmacy. He is a licensed pharmacist, receiving a BS in Pharmacy from the University of Wisconsin - Madison and a MS and PhD in Pharmaceutical Administration from The Ohio State University. Dr. Zgarrick remains engaged in the profession of pharmacy, consulting with universities and teaching pharmacy practice management and entrepreneurship in the health sciences. His scholarly interests include pharmacy workforce research, pharmacy management and operations, pharmacy education, and development of post-graduate programs. He has published over 150 peer-reviewed manuscripts and abstracts, was co-editor of the textbook Pharmacy Management: Essentials for All Practice Settings, and authored the book Getting Started as a Pharmacy Faculty Member. He was editor-in-chief of the Journal of Pharmacy Teaching, Executive Associate Editor of Currents in Pharmacy Teaching and Learning, and is an editorial board member of Research in Social and Administrative Pharmacy. Dr. Zgarrick is active in many professional organizations, including the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) and the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP). He served on AACP Board of Directors for twelve years in three different roles, including as Treasurer from 2016-22. Dr. Zgarrick also served on the Board of Visitors for the University of Wisconsin School of Pharmacy, the Board of Grants for the American Foundation for Pharmaceutical Education, and is a Fellow of the American Pharmacists Association. In this episode, our guest is Melissa Murer Corrigan was founding Executive Director and CEO of the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) in Washington, D.C. from 1994-2011. She also is an innovator in credentialing and pharmacy workforce initiatives. Melissa's leadership launched the PTCB program that has now certified over 700,000 pharmacy technicians working across the United States in large chains such as Walgreens and CVS, health systems and community pharmacies. PTCB certified technicians serve millions of patients annually. Murer Corrigan embraced ambition, took risks, and was the only women on the PTCB Board of Governors during her 17-year tenure as CEO. In 2012 Melissa joined educational assessment leader ACT in Iowa City as an executive leader for the Workforce Development Division and then progressed to serve as Vice President of Social Impact for ACT's Center for Equity in Learning. Her current chapter includes leading the healthcare and credentialing consultancy Manville Heights LLC. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the American Institute for the History of Pharmacy and is the host of the MelisRxScripts podcast. Melissa has served as adjunct faculty with the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy since 2013. In 2015, she was named a Fellow of the American Society of Health- System Pharmacists and in 2016 Melissa was named a Fellow of the American Pharmacists Association. Also in 2016, she received the Honorary Alumni Award from the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy. She had the honor of being the commencement speaker for the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy in 2013 and Drake University in 2014. Passionate about both leadership and encouraging women leaders, Melissa provided the vision for the inaugural Zada Cooper Leadership Symposium. This now annual event features women in pharmacy leadership roles and celebrates the legacy of Locally in Eastern Iowa, Melissa has been recognized as a Woman of Influence and has served on the Board of Directors for Corridor Women Connect. Melissa is a graduate of Drake University's College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. She received the 2010 Weaver Medal which is Drake University College of Pharmacy's highest honor. Melissa is a past president of the Institute for Credentialing Excellence and received the association's distinguished Certification Industry Leadership Award in 2008. She has served as President of the Board of Directors for the Council on Credentialing in Pharmacy. Melissa also received the Henry Cade Memorial Award from the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy in 2012. Dr. Brittany Hoffmann-Eubanks is the Founder and CEO of Banner Medical LLC and a native of the Chicago-land-area in Illinois. Banner Medical combines her passion for writing with her medical background as a pharmacist. Brittany is an expert in developing medical writing content for both healthcare providers and consumers and the course creator of Medical Writing Mastery, which helps pharmacists start their medical writing careers. A really stellar track record of research, leadership, and service, Caroline Jones, a P2 at Drake University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, outlines how she earned the opportunity to present her research nationally. This, coupled with her other experiences, does a great job rounding her experiences out for a successful residency application run in the future. Caroline Jones, a P2 at Drake University, was recently named to the Drake University CPHS Students of Distinction List for her leadership within CPHS and work in researching epinephrine auto-injectors that have led to multiple publications and presentations. Caroline is currently continuing the research on epinephrine auto-injectors. She is also President-elect of Drake’s chapter of the Student College of Clinical Pharmacy, co-lead ambassador for the Drake CPHS Ambassadors, and a teaching assistant within the CPHS. In the future, she hopes to complete a residency in hospital pharmacy and work in a large, academic medical center in an area like critical care.
