New York is on the verge of becoming the 11th state plus DC to give citizens suffering from terminal diseases the right to die when and as they choose. Oregon was the first state 25 years ago to grant this right. Religious leaders, champions of the right to life, even some advocates for the disabled worry that such laws open the way to abuse, coercion, and worse. It seems never to have occurred anywhere, but death is a fearful issue and dying fraught with guilt and worry. We talk with a lawyer and a legislator who have led the campaign in New York for a better say to die, forcing the issues into the open and swaying opinions so that a bill making it's way through the legislature now could shortly be on the governor's desk for a signature.Corinne Carey from Troy NY is a lawyer, organizer, and policy strategist. Alana and her husband received a collection from a Canadian race driver's estate. David Crowther, the driver, competed from the 1960s through the late 1980s in various events, including autocross, rallying, and ice racing, participating almost every weekend from January to October. The collection comprises extensive race results, news clippings, programs, and even race banquet menus, offering a remarkable glimpse into the life of an everyman driver. Alana's presentation discusses how the International Motor Racing Research Center (IMRRC) supports both researchers and race enthusiasts while preserving the legacies of drivers like Crowther. This presentation will not only celebrate Crowther's extensive racing career but also emphasize the importance of archival research centers in maintaining motorsport and driver heritage. Alana Roberts is a graduate of Mount Holyoke College and the University at Buffalo School of Law. She is a novice autocross competitor and racing history enthusiast with a passion for classic British cars along with her husband, Trevor. Among their collection are a first year production 1959 Austin Mini and a 1958 Austin Healey Bugeye Sprite. Through their connections to the classic mini world, Alana and Trevor became custodians of David Crowther's collection of race results, programs, and various other racing ephemera. While cataloging the collection to donate it to the IMRRC, Alana's passion for racing history merged with her love of academia and it is an honor to present the collection and her experience cataloging it. ===== (Oo---x---oO) ===== 00:00 David Crowther: The Ultimate Weekend Warrior 00:45 Alana Roberts' Passion for Racing History 01:44 David Crowther's Racing Career 03:48 The Significance of the Collection 10:29 Nancy Crowther's Perspective (Excerpt) 14:36 The Breadth of the Collection 20:19 Preserving Motorsports History 24:37 Conclusion and Acknowledgements 26:47 Q&A Session; Closing Remarks ==================== The Motoring Podcast Network : Years of racing, wrenching and Motorsports experience brings together a top notch collection of knowledge, stories and information. #everyonehasastory #gtmbreakfix - motoringpodcast.net More Information: https://www.motoringpodcast.net/ Become a VIP at: https://www.patreon.com/gtmotorsports Online Magazine: https://www.gtmotorsports.org/ This episode is part of our HISTORY OF MOTORSPORTS SERIES and is sponsored in part by: The International Motor Racing Research Center (IMRRC), The Society of Automotive Historians (SAH), The Watkins Glen Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Argetsinger Family - and was recorded in front of a live studio audience.

"Mouth breathing is putting bad gasoline into a high-performance race car." - Dr. Ben Miraglia Dr. Ben Miraglia is a renowned dentist with over three decades of experience since graduating from SUNY at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine in 1993. He serves as the Chief Clinical Officer at Airway Health Solutions and Toothpillow, both organizations dedicated to improving dental and airway health. Dr. Miraglia is also on the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Physiological Medicine and Dentistry. He is a key player in transformative dental treatments focusing on physiological growth and airway success without the extraction of teeth. Episode Summary: In this enlightening episode of "Oh, My Health... There Is Hope," host Jana Short sits down with Dr. Ben Miraglia, a trailblazer in the field of dentistry focusing on airway health and pediatric orthodontics without extraction. Dr. Miraglia narrates his journey from being a traditional dentist to discovering expansive orthodontic solutions that avoid tooth extraction and promote better health outcomes. His story of hope is packed with professional insights that will appeal to parents seeking healthier alternatives for children's dental care. Dr. Miraglia's innovative approach advocates early intervention in dental growth, starting as young as three years old, to prevent common issues associated with traditional methods like extracting teeth for orthodontic purposes. Highlighting the profound connection between correct nasal breathing, jaw development, and overall health, this episode offers invaluable information for parents aiming for holistic health solutions for their children. With the development of Toothpillow, Dr. Miraglia extends his expertise globally, providing remote dental care that focuses on growth and natural development rather than immediate corrective remedies. Key Takeaways: Early Intervention: Begin addressing dental development as early as age 3 to promote proper jaw growth and prevent long-term orthodontic issues. Avoid Tooth Extraction: Tooth extraction can lead to bone loss and collapse. Focus instead on techniques that preserve natural tooth structure. Nasal Breathing and Oral Health: Proper nasal breathing is vital for physical health; mouth breathing can lead to various health issues in children. Remote Access to Care: Toothpillow.com provides access to remote assessments and care for children, bridging gaps where local resources may be limited. Educational Resources for Parents: Parents are encouraged to research and choose airway-focused dental professionals who support growth-based orthodontics. Did you know that years ago our mouths were big enough to fit wisdom teeth comfortably? And that jaw growth has decreased significantly over the last 100 years? You'll be surprised to hear how jaw growth, mouth-breathing and behaviour in kids (including ADHD-like symptoms) are all interconnected. Today we chat with Dr. Ben Miraglia, a graduate of SUNY at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine and the United States Dental Institute, who has been in private practice for over 20 years. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Miraglia serves as the Chief Dental Officer at Toothpillow, a preventative, pre-orthodontic system designed to correct and support proper jaw development, promoting nasal breathing and preventing many health problems. Toothpillow addresses the root causes of misaligned teeth, often without the need for braces or tooth extraction. In today's conversation: How most children (and adults) have undersized jaws, and what you can do to grow your jaw Why mouth-breathing makes a difference in sleep, bedwetting, behaviour and more (and what to do about it) How braces only fix a symptom, and don't treat the cause (and don't often work long-term) 3 steps to start the healing process, starting at the root cause Dr Ben's Links: Toothpillow Instagram HEREDr. Ben Miraglia's Instagram HERE Website: https://www.toothpillow.com/**Use the code "Parenting Coach" to receive a complimentary evaluation from a highly trained Airway Dentist and $250 off treatment when you book between March 24th-31st, 2025 If you book outside of these dates, you'll still receive 50% off the consultation and $100 off treatment!Make sure to mention "Parenting Coach" in the referral section when booking**---Links to Crystal's work, to help on your own inner journey: Intuitive Journaling Prompts HERE and a somatic meditation (Move through frustration in 15 minutes or less) HERE, The Art of Non-Attachment Workshop HEREGet started on this work with daily practice in a journal, Burn This Book (a great intro to mental and emotional wellness) HEREWork with Crystal 1:1: www.coachcrystal.ca/miracle or in group: www.coachcrystal.ca/creationroomGrab your copy of Crystal's feelings wheel here: www.coachcrystal.ca/wheel

Enam is a University of Buffalo School of Law graduate and currently works as a Legal and Technology Consultant at LawBeta. Enam's story and journey are the epitome of being guided by a unique journey. From Big Law and Wall Street employee for 15 years, to pursuing his passion, in legal technology, a riveting story and one of our longest episodes to date! Enam and I start before his entry into Buffalo School of Law. Inspired by Atticus Finch to go to Law School after reading To Kill a Mocking Bird in 3rd grade, in pursuit of standing up for people and gaining justice. We then moved to Enam's first year of Law School, which he loved and was a time to restart again. It was a lot of work, but it was full of meeting new people and an unbelievably valuable change of scenery. We then moved to Enam's post-graduation experiences, keying in on what he wanted to do with the Law and especially what he did not want to do with the Law in terms of specialization. After this, we spoke about his time in Big Law and working on Wall Street. When first starting, Enam described it as a steep learning curve, but it felt right because it was new and interesting. After the new feeling wore off, Enam would move firms and finally end up at Moody's. He would delve into each experience and what caused each change. After 7 years at Moody, and with the advent of Covid, Enam decided that he needed something new and would move to California. But, Enam would enter into a period of darkness, with his career in the unknown and not wanting to return to Law. Then, out of nowhere, when deciding to go to a conference, he would meet a random person who he still speaks to today, who, after looking over his LinkedIn, told him he was an extremely impressive professional. This story would be, for me, one of the rawest and most emotional segments in this podcast's history, as this one moment, would be a piece of immense inspiration, and lead him to follow his passion. We then came to today, where Enam is a Legal and Technology consultant at LawBeta, consultants at the vibrant intersection of Law and Technology. Enam would speak about his experience thus far, and just how amazing it has been. Finally, Enam gave his technology recommendations, from what kind of LLMs he uses, and the devices he has, and even a shoutout to one of the sponsors of this podcast, Rhetoric. As well, as some spectacular book and podcast recommendations. Enam's journey, not only is one of our longest episodes and one that is full of a wide range of emotions, and amazing career advice from a veteran of the industry. The speakers delve into the Rapanos case and subsequent rulemaking, explaining how these developments informed the Supreme Court, led to multiple lawsuits across multiple states, and culminated in the Court's strongly-worded opinion in U.S. v. Sackett that virtually everyone agrees served to narrow the scope of federal jurisdiction over wetlands. Importantly, listeners will hear the latest updates in the litigation challenging the most recent agency rulemaking, how federal courts are interpreting Sackett across the country, and how federal agencies are handling requests for jurisdictional determinations under the regulatory regime that Sackett left in its wake. Tune in to hear their predictions on what comes next. For the latest jurisdictional announcements, visit https://www.usace.army.mil/Missions/Civil-Works/Regulatory-Program-and-Permits/juris_info/. This week, The ResiDental Movement Podcast returns after a few weeks off to welcome Baby Robinson into our family and household. Initially, I did not plan on taking a break from the podcast, but I quickly discovered what any parent already knows, babies take a lot of work and a lot of time and energy! My sincerest thanks to the audience for their understanding during my brief hiatus. My perspective on what constitutes 'real work' has humorously evolved, especially in light of managing a newborn's needs. However, it's always a joy to bring you this show and I'm happy to be back to share my insights and perspectives on House-Call Dentistry. In this episode, I'm addressing a question I received from a brand-new Doc. The Listener wrote in to ask, “If I haven't completed a residency, can I still be a House-Call dentist"? The short answer to this question is yes There is no certification or training to become a House-Call Dentist. My GPR helped me become more confident working with medically complex patients, and it gave me a lot of relevant experiences to make this work easier for me. I definitely think residencies are very helpful, however, while formal education and residencies hold value, nothing compares to hands-on experience, especially in House-Call Dentistry! Every Doc's path is unique of course but sometimes, practical experience can surpass theoretical learning. Speaking of learning, In this episode I also break down my new role at The University of Buffalo School of Dental Medicine. One day a week I'll be aiming to demystify House-Call Dentistry for students while helping to educate them on broader access to care. This is an exciting opportunity for me and in many ways an extension of the work that I've been doing with Dental House Call Practice Academy. If you're not familiar with (DHCPA), it's an online course designed to guide dentists in establishing their own House-Call practices. By outlining the benefits and flexibility of this model, I hope to inspire dentists to explore alternative career paths. I envision a future where dental home care is normalized within the profession, a change made possible by the pioneering efforts of current and future dentists. There is vast potential within the dental profession for innovation and adaptation and whether you have completed a residency or not House-Call Dentistry has a place for you! Are you a nonprofit leader searching for ways to better serve your community? Look no further! I chat with special guest, Kelly Dumas, about how you can have a bigger impact on the people you serve. She discusses the importance of cultural considerations, going beyond “checking the box” and truly understanding your community. Kelly shares her first-hand experience of this when an individual came to her organization after a hallucination misdiagnosis. In reality, this person was performing a spiritual practice that is common in their culture, but no one took the time to become aware of these cultural differences. There are so many powerful lessons nonprofit leaders can take away from Kelly's experiences. About Kelly Kelly Dumas is a licensed clinical social worker and serves as the Executive Director of the Healing Hub of New York, Inc. She holds over 20 years of experience in behavioral health and nonprofits. Her work has included providing clinical services, executive and senior leadership, and overseeing the operations of the largest behavioral health organization in Western New York where she developed and led many programs, including the Black Mental Health Team which she brought together to meet the needs of the community following the racially motivated TOPS shooting that took 10 precious lives and left many scarred. A subject matter expert in community Black mental health, Kelly has traveled abroad to learn about indigenous practices that can be incorporated into the work she does within the community. She has also facilitated trainers to come to Buffalo and train 22 individuals in Indigenous Psychotherapy, an approach that centers people of color. She is a woman of faith and serves as the Director of Mental Health at Zion Dominion Global Ministries where she has worshipped for 22 years. Kelly is also an adjunct professor at the University at Buffalo School of Social Work. She enjoys spending time with her husband Reggie and two children Denise and Dennis. This past week, I had the honor of speaking to students at my wonderful alma mater, The University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine. It's funny how things change! After graduating, I never thought I'd be back there so soon. However, I was invited to speak to dental students about House-Call Dentistry, and how it transformed my life. This year's presentation was extra special as one of the students told me she had already heard about House-Call dentistry from The ResiDENTAL Movement Podcast! It's amazing to see students who are ahead of the curve. That's what the podcast is all about - encouraging more dentists and students to explore House-Call dentistry. Speaking with this group of students was so exciting because I had some incredible news to share. I've accepted a one-day/week faculty position at UB! This allows me to contribute to the curriculum and discuss alternative delivery systems and access to care, including House-Call Dentistry. I'm beyond grateful for this opportunity to spread the word and increase access to care through formal dental education. Now, onto a question I received from a student: "Can a House-Call Practice provide a reasonable and equitable income?" The short answer is yes, House-Call Dentists can make or even exceed chair-side Dentist money. As a House-Call Dentist, you control the factors that determine your income. You set your fees, and your schedule, and decide if you'll have supplemental income from other sources. It's all about setting a minimum show-up fee, determining your service fees, and scheduling enough appointments to earn the income you want. Yes, you may have to charge high fees for the premium service of house-call dentistry, but it's worth it. Taxes are also something to consider as a House-Call Dentist, visit my link at QuickBooks for 30% off for the next 6 months! While exclusively practicing House-Call Dentistry may not make you the highest-earning Doc, it does provide an income fit for a Dentist and a schedule that most colleagues would envy! If you're interested in learning more about starting your Dental House- Call practice, consider joining Dental House Call Academy. It's my online course where I'll walk you through everything you need to know about getting started! Thanks for listening! I really appreciate you. What does a trauma-informed digital experience look like? Or, better said, what does it feel like? Why is trauma-informed design particularly important for today's digital experiences? We hear answers to these questions and more this week from Melissa Eggleston and Carol F Scott, PhD - the women behind Trauma-informedTech.com. Melissa is an expert in user-experience design and research with a focus on inclusive, trauma-informed technology and design. The information my two guests share so generously is applicable to therapists, parents, teachers, or anyone with a child in their life. Learn what it means to attune to the young people in your life. Some areas of interest are the importance of early intervention, correct attachment, and coregulation. From listening to this episode you will gain a greater understanding of how trauma specifically affects those affected in childhood, about soothing a child and how we might be getting it wrong, and the right and wrong ways to repair harm.
