Run it Red's 100th Episode is here and, to switch things up, my Discoid/House alias Ron Bacardi takes over with a much-requested Dj set recording, this one from DJ Bone's excellent Further party a few weeks back. In eight years I've chalked up nearly 240hrs of music, dropped about 7000 new tracks and we're still going strong, something I'm immensely proud of. The show has always been about showcasing the best new music I can find, so huge thanks to the artists, labels and promo companies who send me music, I'm aware of how big a privilege it is to get so much great stuff on top of my own digging. Massive thanks to the mighty NTS too, it's wicked to be a regular on such a forward-thinking station and be part of a family that includes so many great DJs and selectors, but the biggest appreciation of all goes to the listeners, those who give me feedback when they see me on the road and especially the ones who go out and support the labels/artists they hear on the show. Much love to all, and I hope you enjoy the RB set this month. New Music Worldwide is a weekly mix series hosted by Thris Tian. This week's New Music Worldwide comes from Generation Next. Generation Next's career in music always maintained an air of inevitability. The son of Detroit legend Big Strick (himself a cousin of FXHE boss Omar S), he grew up in a home where jazz, disco, house and techno reigned supreme. Inspired by contemporary hip-hop and RnB as much as he is the music of family friends Amp Fiddler, Kenny Dixon Jr and OB Ignitt, he’s enjoyed a musical upbringing like few others in modern-day Detroit. Generation Next is also a DJ of some repute and has already shared the decks with the likes of Omar S, John FM and Walter Glasshouse, while in Europe he debuted his live show at Panorama Bar, which perhaps goes some way to explaining his standing amongst discerning electronic music fans. It’s fair to say that Kai Alce is an underrated artist. Not only does he turn out a consistent stream of tunes on top labels, but he also oversees NDATL Muzik, one of the most fawned over deep house labels out there. He has actually been active since 2002, and his heartfelt brand of house has always embodied elements of New York, Detroit and Chicago, as well as his Atalanta homeland. It sounds unmistakably alive and irresistibly soulful and has come on labels like FXHE, Mahogani Music and Finale Sessions. As a lynchpin of the Atlanta scene, he and his peers are only just starting to get some of the wider recognition they deserve. The mix he offers us here showcases his impeccable taste and takes in jazzy house styles, loose party jams and vocal groovers that are deliciously deep. Romantic and richly coloured, it’s a set for lovers of laidback grooves and proper musicality. Given the time of year, the whole thing seems to glow like Christmas lights on a festive winter night, so stick it on, warm up some mulled wine and get on down.

Chubby! on Facebook: www.facebook.com/chubbyrecords Big Strick on Facebook: www.facebook.com/pages/Big-Strick/135827606490714 http://7daysent.us @7-days-ent-1 Born in the 70’s at the peak of Motown Records, Leonard Strickland Aka Big Strick was heavily influenced by the temptations, Marvin Gaye, 4 Tops and a host of other extraordinary acts that blessed detroit with great soulful music. As a youth, Big Strick started taking it to another unique detroit sound, P-FUNK (PARLIAMENT FUNKADELIC), whose style of funky guitar, bass, keyboard, funky synthesiser and drum players led to a style that would change the face of music forever. As an early teen Big Strick was introduced to house music. At that time The Wizard (Jeff Mills) was the DJ on 92.3 WDRQ. Big Strick recalls “sitting listening in amazement to the radio and would not move until his set was over, saying ‘damn, this guy’s fast’. Spending hours at a time taping him on cassette and walking the 12 blocks till early hours of the morning. After releasing 2 underground anthems on FXHE in 2009, Big Strick started his own label 7Days ENT in 2011 featuring artists such as Omar S, Generation Next and the return of the legend Reckless Ron Cook, a rare appearance from the former Submerge & Metroplex artist and a true pioneer of the techno movement in the early 90’s. As Generation Next sets the tone for an outer-Galactic experience with Sequence 11 the stage is set for pure deepness only products of Detroit can bring! Alongside Omar S on Family Affair, Big Strick & son Generation Next has orchestrated a masterpiece sure to please the dance floors worldwide.
As Detroit veteran and one quarter of 3 Chairs, Marcellus Pittman is a true original. He first raised heads on Theo Parrish’s Sound Signature label in 1999, while further releases on Omar S’s FXHE label and his own Unirhythm imprint have become modern classics. Pittman’s work recently featured on a release from Brazilian outfit Far Out Monster Disco Orchestra, and album which comes with a second disc of remixes. A selection of Far Out Records’ favourite Brazilian luminaries and many of Rio’s finest musicians, it enlists remix work from Pittman as well as fellow admirers Theo Parrish, Mark Pritchard, John Morales, Mark E and more. For Crack Mix 69 the distinguished selector fuses an exhilarating mix of uptempo disco, funk and soul, with a degree of lo-fi crunch. As with much of his work, this one’s peak time fire.
