POPULARITY
Podcasting has numerous benefits, however, producing an ongoing podcast is a hard nut to crack. It takes more effort than simply clicking ‘Record' on your smartphone and then uploading it online. Podcasting involves a tremendous amount of research, planning, managing social media networks and engaging your target audience. For companies, podcasting can be a compelling opportunity to interact with your clientele, become noticeable among your competitors, and help you and your business turn into an industry frontrunner and professional. Did you know, MailChimp became a popular brand name overnight by simply running a 20-second ad at the start of every episode of the famous podcast, Serial? This is just one illustration of a business taking advantage of podcasting, and it inspired several other companies to start producing their own podcasts. Here's why you should consider podcasting as a content marketing channel in 2021. 1. Practicing the art of subtle brandingOver-branding can actually kill your brand. Storytelling is a vital instrument for consumer engagement. Through appropriate, enlightening, and valuable stories conveyed by evocative means, companies can connect with customers and develop a devoted audience. Podcasts can help you master the art of subtle branding! One way to interact with your audience is a corporate blog. However, maintaining an attention-grabbing blog involves several SEO challenges. Podcasts can help you implement a more subtle approach. This way, you can become an intrinsic element of the content itself. For example; eBay joined hands with Gimlet Creative to come up with its own podcast series titled ‘Open for Business' that uses storytelling for advertising purposes. 2. Podcasts are convenient to consume and mobile-friendly Unlike blogs and videos, the beauty of podcasts lies in the fact that audio content can be more conveniently accessed on the go. It doesn't force listeners to abandon whatever they are doing just to concentrate on your content. 3. Podcasts can create great production value in a short turnaround time One of the reasons you should give podcasting a try is the quick turnaround time. So, how do we work with our clients to come up with a quick podcast process? We put the planning in front of the recording. Once our clients are in the recording studio, they know exactly what needs to be recorded because the planning for that episode took place weeks prior. 4. Creating a reflection of your business' true brand personality Along with offering value for customers, podcasts reflect a company's individuality and fundamental values. Rather than using written content for conveying what a brand stands for, it's more compelling to do so by through expressing it vocally. For instance, Trader Joe's, a popular neighborhood grocery store with, as they like to state, “amazing food and drink,” has a podcast series called, ‘Inside Trader Joe's'” that depicts a true picture of the company. This amusing, buoyant and always foodie content engages its main audience. Episode after episode it helps further strengthen the connection with its customers. 5. Reaching a wider audience Once a podcast is published on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts or similar platforms, your company exposes its content to a broader audience at no cost, outside of your website. These platforms act as search engines that are used by your potential listeners and customers to look for podcasts. Podcasts will help your company in developing customer loyalty because your listeners will take the action to subscribe to the podcast. What can happen next? Listeners may endorse your podcasts to their circle of influence, thereby, growing your reach significantly. It can ultimately increase website traffic. "I heard it on a podcast." - Everyone 6. Creating more in-depth relationships with your customers The primary reason why individuals listen...

John Henry (@johnhenrystyle) is an entrepreneur, speaker and Venture Partner of Harlem Capital Partners, a minority-owned, diversity-focused early-stage investment firm on a mission to change the face of entrepreneurship. John also hosts the #ChopItUpShow on YouTube and the Open For Business podcast from eBay and Gimlet Creative. At the age of 18, John left college to pursue what became his first company, an on-demand laundry service. John quickly carved a niche out in Film and Television Production, handling wardrobe for clients such as Boardwalk Empire, Law & Order: SVU, Power and more. Within just two years of launching Mobile City, the company was successfully acquired. Afterwards, John co-founded a non-profit incubator, Cofound Harlem, with a mission to incubate over 100 companies north of 96th street in New York City. In this episode, we're going to learn about: how to build a personal brand the right way why you shouldn't listen to experts and gurus when you're starting out one major way we hold ourselves back and stall our own progress and so much more.
If you love podcasts, you might've heard of a contest recently being run by Squarespace and Gimlet Creative called CASTING CALL. It's essentially a podcaster talent search, with the winner getting a mini-series and maybe a full series on the Gimlet Media platform, home of many great shows (including one of my favorites, Mogul). The new show I pitched is called "Repatriated". This is what it's about: "This is a show about real people from around the world who are on the journey of their lives: returning to their country of origin. My plan with 'Repatriated' is to identify and follow a handful of people who are preparing to make a global move of their own, and to follow them and the people in their lives throughout a season - before, during, and after the move." The rules don't prohibit contestants from sharing their entry, so here is mine for you to check out if you're curious. Chelsey Mark was nice enough to come back in and role-play a version of himself who is poised to return home to Canada soon, and he reflects on this from the perspective of having lived 18 years in China and considers what waits for him and what he'll leave behind. The demo is only 3 minutes and I'd seriously love to hear your thoughts, so please have a listen and let me know - here, via the Contact form, or on any of the socials. Thanks!!

Sexual harassment in Hollywood and Silicon Valley is dominating news cycles. Many people in the association and meetings space wonder when the eye of the storm will turn toward their industries and make examples of them. Others are concerned whether they've done enough to protect their employees and members from harm. For this Association Chat, I talk with the brilliant journo/professor/podcast host Ashley Milne-Tyte about the problems our society faces with sexual harassment in the workplace, what some leaders are doing to prevent it, and steps we can take to improve on this issue. More about Ashley (from her LinkedIn profile): Podcast host, broadcaster, writer, teacher. I produce stories for Marketplace, NPR, WNYC and Voice of America and have written for publications including Metro, the Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, Phoenix Focus, Women of Influence and Quill, the Society of Professional Journalists magazine. I teach writing and audio reporting skills to Columbia J-School graduate students. In 2017 I have worked with podcast companies Gimlet Creative and Pineapple Street to host branded podcasts. You can find links to much of my work and read more about my services at my website, http://www.ashleymilnetyte.com. Branded podcasts are on the rise. With one out of every four Americans saying they listen to at least one podcast a month, companies are increasingly incorporating the medium into their content marketing strategies, and in some cases these branded podcasts are really taking off with listeners. The first major success of a branded podcast was The Message, a joint venture between the Panoply Network and GE. The science fiction serial has generated over 8 million downloads and, during its run, stayed at the top of the iTunes charts. Gimlet Media, one of the largest and most well-funded podcast networks, recently launched its branded content studio Gimlet Creative, and it's since created narrative podcasts for Tinder and eBay. Suddenly, there's strong demand for people who can leverage their podcast expertise to help companies launch podcasts that their target consumers will actually want to listen to. One of those people is Ernesto Gluecksmann. Ernesto is the co-founder of Human Factor Media, a podcast consulting company that works with associations to launch and produce podcasts. I recently interviewed Ernesto about how he launched the company and what makes for a successful branded podcast.
