Johnnie, known as John, owned a grocery store and became known as the guy that could get you things. By things we mean tea, fine wines, and spirits. He found his way into the whiskey world by blending the whiskey that he got in Creating something new John passed away in 1857 and his son, Alexander, took over when he was old enough In 1843, with railroads in place, Alexander was able to create a distribution network which shipped his whiskey worldwide. In 1862, sales averaged 100,000 gallons each year. “Old Highland Blend” was the first copyrighted blend to hit shelves in 1867 Johnnie walker Black label Johnnie Walker Blue was released in 1992 and hit the shelves at $150 a bottle. It was the most expensive whiskey on the market and Diageo believed it would sell well in bars as bottle service for companies wooing potential clients This bottle comes from hand selecting rare scotch whiskies and blending them. Only 1 in 10,000 casks make the cut. Diageo operates about 28 distilleries across Scotland, many producing whisky casks utilized for Johnnie Walker products. These include single malts like Clynelish, Talisker, Caol Ila, Lagavulin, Oban, Glendullan, Dufftown, Glen Ord, Glenkinchie, Craagganmore, Mortlach, Royal Lochnagar, Glen Elgin, Dalwhinnie, Glenkinchi, Inchgower and Cardhu. The large single grain distilleries in Diageo's portfolio include the massive Cameronbridge Distillery north of Edinburgh, the home of Haig Club Single Grain Scotch Whisky. Since this is a blended bottle and the best of the best, it is rumored that barrels that are as old as 60 years are used in Johnnie Walker Blue and barrels as young as 28 years. This bottle gives a whole new perspective on what blended scotch is and the quality alone that goes into it. All of the distilleries that Johnnie Walker pulls from are all incredibly different in palate alone --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/whiskey-exchange/support

In this week's episode of The DBS Tasting Room, Donny and Shaun are joined by a founding member of the DBS, Charles. The idea to start this whiskey group was first presented to Charles after visiting an honorary member, R.I.P. Mr. Chris Binnie. Chris had taken Charles on a few distillery tours, and he instantly fell in love with the culture. This love for whiskey was shared with a few other founding members including Ali Shaun and Randall, and the rest is history. Two different expressions are sampled here, both of which come from distilleries that Charles had visited during that same trip: The Glenkinchie 12 Yr and The Dailuaine 16 Yr Flora and Fauna. Cheers! Slainte Mhath! Drink Responsibly!

Have you noticed that over the last few weeks Nick's whisky knowledge seems to have been getting better? He's giving the Whisky God a run for his money. Well it might be because recently he has taken an online course which he was kindly given access to by The Edinburgh Whisky Academy. He'll be talking a bit about the module he has studied for and how he got on. They currently have a 30% off deal on their online courses, so go and check them out.Using this new knowledge (and hoping that Dave keeps up), the boys give their tasting notes for the Glenkinchie 12 year old, which is also from just outside Edinburgh. The first lowland whisky covered on this show. You'll also hear a review from the Whisky God... does he know his place? While Nick has been studying, Dave hasn't been doing much at all, but did try and play golf, which left him wondering what else he wished he was good at but isn't.Edinburgh Whisky Academy:https://www.edinburghwhiskyacademy.com/Twitter: https://twitter.com/EdinWhiskyAcadInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/edinburghwhiskyacademy/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/edinburghwhiskyacademyWhisky and Things:Become a Patron: https://www.patreon.com/whiskyandthingsMerch and info: http://www.whiskyandthings.comBe sure to find our playlist on Spotify: Whisky and Things - The PlaylistSocial media:https://www.facebook.com/whiskyandthingshttps://www.twitter.com/whiskyandthingshttps://www.instagram.com/whiskyandthingspodcastFor business enquiries: info@whiskyandthings.comNick Kent: https://www.facebook.com/nickkentmusichttps://www.twitter.com/nickkenthttps://www.instagram.com/mrnickkentDave Giles: https://www.facebook.com/davejgilesmusichttps://www.twitter.com/davejgileshttps://www.instagram.com/davejgilesSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/whiskyandthings. In February 1941, a ship carrying nearly 30,000 cases of whisky was wrecked off the Scottish island of Eriskay in the Outer Hebrides. The islanders began to salvage the bottles from the wreck. Lucy Burns presents material from the BBC archives about the incident that later became the inspiration for the film Whisky Galore. Duck Washington returns and gives us his origin story–well, his name’s origin story anyway. Dave’s nose makes several vocal appearances as well and we’re all sorry about that. Pours this go around are the Balvenie Peated 17yr and Glenkinchie 2010 20yr. Even though this show is posting a bit late, there’s still time to see Caucasian-Aggressive Pandas and Other Mulatto Tales at the Bryant Lake Bowl this weekend. If you are a Twin Cities local, you really should check it out. This is the final weekend.
OOOOooooOOO! It's the spookyist Scotch N' Games yet! Not content to simply let the most hallowed of eves pass us by like a couple of drunk nerds, we get down and dirty with some our past favourite scary games like Silent Hill and Resident Evil. Well, mostly Graham. Will is too scared. Later on we get in depth with Alien: Isolation. This episode's scotch, the Glenkinchie, is brought to you by scotch. Scotch! It's good.
In February 1941, a ship carrying nearly 30,000 cases of whisky was wrecked off the Scottish island of Eriskay in the Outer Hebrides. The islanders began to salvage the bottles from the wreck - and the incident later became the inspiration for the film "Whisky Galore". Fearless Comedy Productions co-founder Bob Alberti and Big Fun Radio Funtime voice actress Dawn Krosnowski join us for a very entertaining hour. We bust Bob’s scotch cherry, learn a bit about the second-ever published RPG (after D&D), and are given some spontaneous intro and bumper themes. The scotches this episode were the Glenkinchie 12 year and The Balvenie 21 year Portwood. Bob was a somewhat recent guest on the Apropos of Nothing podcast and talked about Tékumel there as well. They are more adept at the show notes thing and actually have pictures: check it out!
This week we talk to Sarah Burgess, the manager of Glenkinchie Distillery, to discover how whisky and music will combine to create a very special evening on the 17th September for Lammermuir's "Music at Glenkinchie" concert.
