Whisky and Things is a lifestyle entertainment show consisting of whisky reviews and other whisky related topics mixed with real life experiences from the two hosts Dave Giles and Nick Kent. The pair became good friends when they met at university studying music back in 2003. Their friendship grew despite their touring and work schedules and they’ve always made time to enjoy each other and share the things they love. In our penultimate episode of Whisky and Things we finally get round to talking about the deal, the steal, some might say the teal of the century…. The Classic Laddie from Bruichladdich, Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky. We've loved what we've sampled before so how will their flagship release match up? Also, seeing as next week is our last episode, we wouldn't want leave you hanging on your morning commutes, or weekend walks in the countryside so we'll be running down some of our favourite podcasts for your entertainment needs, be it whisky based or otherwise for you to fill our, probably tiny void.Find the full show notes for this episode at https://www.whiskyandthings.com/podcast/ep124-bruichladdich-the-classic-laddie-islay-single-malt-scotch-whisky-plus-our-podcast-recommendationsSocial media:https://www.facebook.com/whiskyandthingshttps://www.twitter.com/whiskyandthingshttps://www.instagram.com/whiskyandthingspodcastWhisky and Things Podcast has been brought to you by “And Things Productions”Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/whiskyandthings. We're very lucky this week to be sampling another dram from Tasmania, in the form of the Fanny's Bay Single Malt Whisky. This week we take a step back in time, as we revisit four whiskies from The New Zealand Whisky Collection which Nick tasted back in Episode 1, The South Island Single Malt, The High Wheeler, The Dunedin Double Wood and the mighty Oamaruvian. So now Dave and Nick can actually get together again, it's time for them to taste these four drams in each other's company for the first time… yes, Nick actually shared his Whisky with Dave, it must have been a special occasion! We also revisit our 2019 interview with former NZWC employee Matt Wicks to guide us through these excellent drams once again. Jes tells us all about their story and their range which one of us gets to taste… why only one of us? Dave finally made it to ‘Nick's Bar' so it means we can finally crack open our Chivas Whisky Blending Kits and have a go at being “Master Blenders”… How hard can it be? Of course we'll be having a little taste of how it should be done by sampling a dram of the Chivas Regal 12 Year Old Blended Scotch before we crack on! We have 4 of these Blending Kits to give away, courtesy of Chivas Regal. In episode 88 we welcome back Whisky Exchange Ambassador, Presenter and now published Author Billy Abbott onto the podcast… We talk about guitars, beards and of course, the whisky he kindly sent us to taste. With Christmas just around the corner, we sample some special festive drams The Whisky Exchange have to offer… including ‘A Fine Christmas Malt 2021' which is a 16 year old from a certain Orkney distillery, and a wonderful Coal Ila 7 year old… One month to get your shopping done… Let's do this! This week we welcome our good friend Danny Gruff back onto the podcast, and not only that, the three of us will be sitting in the same room, at the same bar together… what a treat! So to mark this occasion we thought we'd crack out the big guns in the form of the Redbreast 12 Year Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey, Cask Strength at 57.6% ABV, as well as the 40% standard version for a little comparison. So yeah, we have a catch up over one of our favourite whiskeys… Happy Days! Dram packed show this week as we taste the new seasonal offering from Nc'Nean, in the form of the Annabel, the debut bottling from their Quiet Rebels series. This exciting release has been matured using ex-Bourbon and ex-Tokaji barrels…(That's Hungarian Wine). Also, to help celebrate Diwali, the Indian New Year and Festival of Light as well as Old Fashioned Week, we taste a wonderful creation courtesy of The Cocktail Society and Rampur Indian Single Malt Whisky… The pre-mixed Indian Spiced Chai Old Fashioned… and spoiler alert, it's amazing. This week we air the second part of our conversation with Rob Patchett and Connor Teague of the Cotswolds Distillery as well as Vin PF of No Nonsense Whisky, which took place back in August within the Distillery's tasting room. After we tried their core range back in episode 80, in this instalment we'll be sampling two limited edition ‘Hearts and Crafts' bottling's as well as two brand new core whiskies: the Bourbon Cask expression and the yet unreleased Cotswolds Reserve.Find the full show notes for this episode at http://www.whiskyandthings.comSocial media:https://www.facebook.com/whiskyandthingshttps://www.twitter.com/whiskyandthingshttps://www.instagram.com/whiskyandthingspodcastWhisky and Things Podcast has been brought to you by “And Things Productions”Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/whiskyandthings. This week we discuss the influx of orange onto the whisky shelves, both in flavour and in aesthetics. Orange flavoured ‘spirit drinks', orange labels and styling seems to be everywhere at the moment for better or worse. We also try one of the key components in the Johnnie Walker blends in the form of the Cardhu Gold Reserve Single Malt Scotch Whisky… We chat about it's taste, value for money, and most interestingly… (Hopefully)... it's history! After our visit to the Whisky Show last week and Dave's very positive Bruichladdich experience, we thought we'd try a special dram from said Islay distillery that we've been very much looking forward to. This week we'll be tasting the cask strength Bruichladdich 11 year which was bottled by The Single Cask independent bottlers in partnership with The Water of Life film which was released earlier this year.
