I recently had the pleasure of sitting down with Ewan Morgan, Head of Whiskey Outreach and National Luxury Ambassador for Diageo who owns some of the largest liquor brands in the world, from Tanqueray & Casamigos, to Guiness and Non-Alcoholic brand Seedlip. But what most may not know, is that Diageo also owns a fair share of high end labels too, like Lagavulin and Mortlach. And after four decades of closure, the iconic Port Ellen distillery in the Island of Islay is reopening with Diageo in a historic moment for the Scotch industry. Ewan and I chat about the Scotch Whiskey collecting market, growing up in a family who lives and breathes the spirit, and he even takes me through a tasting of the new Port Ellen Gemini release, retailing for fifty thousand dollars. And to top it all off, we recorded at an amazing ten million dollar apartment on One Wall Street thanks to our friends at Optimist. Ewan is truly an expert which is why he's worked his way up to have what most would consider one of the greatest jobs in the world. So without further adieu, this is Ewan Morgan, for Collectors Gene Radio.Diageo - https://www.diageo.com/One Wall Street - https://onewallstreet.com/Optimist - https://www.optimistconsulting.com/Ewan Morgan - https://www.instagram.com/ewanmorgan/?hl=enPort Ellen - https://www.diageo.com/en/news-and-media/stories/2024/port-ellen-reborn-the-reopening-of-islay-s-legendary-ghost-distillery

If Dickens were to write this intro, ‘ol Chuck might pen, “There is no doubt Drew does not like Scotch. This must be distinctly understood, or nothing wonderful can come of the podcast you about to hear.” Welcome to The Scotchification of Drew. Today, Matt brings 9, count ‘em, 9, bottles of Scotch, and leads Drew down a journey from mild to wild, easy to peaty, and in the process makes Drew a fan of Scotch! If you dare, pick up these bottles: Dewar's 12 Chivas Regal 12 Glenfarclas 12 Signatory Speyside Mortlach 10 Signatory Speyside Auchroisk 10 Talisker 10 Bowmore 15 Ardbeg 10 Lagavulin 16 Listen and Sip along as the Boys tiptoe into the deep-end of Scotch, talk about St. Paddy's Day movies, tangent to Scottish Actors, and luckily avoid what could have been another Tom Hanks geek-out! Invite your friends, hide their car keys, crack these bottles, and Make It A Happy Friday™!

For the past 48 years, the Kinsmen Foundation and Telemiracle has been raising money to improve the quality of life and independence of Saskatchewan residents. Their generosity is huge and the province rallies every year to support the Telemiracle fundraising event on television, but you might not know about all the work that goes on behind the scenes, all year round, to connect the Kinsmen Foundation with people in need. We learn about this incredible work in this episode of YXE Underground. I can vividly remember being 8 years-old, sitting on the living room floor next to my sister, in our home in Swift Current, eagerly waiting for our names to slowly scroll across the bottom screen during Telemiracle. I'm sure I am not the only one who has a memory like this.I think Telemiracle is one of those Saskatchewan institutions that just seems to bring people together. The fact that this two day annual fundraiser raises millions of dollars to help people in need, whether it's a piece of medical equipment or to help cover the costs of travel for a medical procedure, is worth celebrating. However, it's only been in the past few years that I've learned about all the work that happens year round by a passionate group of volunteers that connects people in need with the Kinsmen Foundation. These volunteers are from across Saskatchewan and often meet at the Kinsmen Foundation headquarters in Saskatoon.I wanted to learn more about these Kinsmen and Telemiracle volunteers and how they work with people and organizations across Saskatchewan, and I was lucky enough to meet Raelynn Nicholson and Tyler Hall.Raelynn is the Kinsmen Foundation Board Chair and lives in Assiniboine, Saskatchewan. Tyler Hall is this year's Telemiracle Chair and he lives in Mortlach, Saskatchewan. They are volunteers who love making a difference in the lives of people, and as you will hear, their roots run deep with it comes to Kinsmen and Telemiracle.I was lucky to catch them both in Saskatoon last month and we met for coffee at the Broadway Roastery on 8th Street. We cover a lot of ground in just over a half-hour...like how the volunteer board decides where to spend its money and what it's like getting to really know families in need. We also discuss why this work means so much to Raelynn and Tyler, and as you'll hear, they have a lot of fun working together.A big thank you to Rob Rongve and his team at RBC Dominion Securities in North Battleford for supporting this episode. If you are looking for someone to manage your money and give you thoughtful advice on investments, you should really speak with Rob Rongve. Thank you so much for listening and supporting a local, independent podcast. Don't forget to leave a 5-star review if you like what you hear and follow YXE Underground on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. FUCK CANCER. Vi säger slainte och adjö till en fellow whiskynörd innan vi dyker in i andra delen av Davids intervju med Arthur Motley, ena halvan av The Liquid Antiquarian. Hello and welcome back to Caskheads, a podcast for whisk(e)y about whisk(e)y. Today I have a guest co-host with me. We talk about whisky, but more precisely we talk about Mortlach, the distillery that distills 2.81 times, because why not? We also talk a little about the independent bottlers and owners of Edradour distillery, Signatory vintage. Alex asks some questions, some of them make it into the final cut and we even try a sample of Signatory Vintage un-chillfiltered Mortlach 2009. To find out more about Alex's off podcast exploits check out his youtube channel. For those who enjoy our caffeine addled minds' creations I should also mention we have a second podcast which is fictional (or is it?) named GNS where an infinitely shadowy mega corporation with seemingly limitless amounts of money close to hand moves into a small town and slowly takes over. If you think it sounds fun or just want to shut me up check it out check out GNSradio now wherever you get your podcasts from or check out the teasers on here. Johnnie, known as John, owned a grocery store and became known as the guy that could get you things. By things we mean tea, fine wines, and spirits. He found his way into the whiskey world by blending the whiskey that he got in Creating something new John passed away in 1857 and his son, Alexander, took over when he was old enough In 1843, with railroads in place, Alexander was able to create a distribution network which shipped his whiskey worldwide. In 1862, sales averaged 100,000 gallons each year. “Old Highland Blend” was the first copyrighted blend to hit shelves in 1867 Johnnie walker Black label Johnnie Walker Blue was released in 1992 and hit the shelves at $150 a bottle. It was the most expensive whiskey on the market and Diageo believed it would sell well in bars as bottle service for companies wooing potential clients This bottle comes from hand selecting rare scotch whiskies and blending them. Only 1 in 10,000 casks make the cut. Diageo operates about 28 distilleries across Scotland, many producing whisky casks utilized for Johnnie Walker products. These include single malts like Clynelish, Talisker, Caol Ila, Lagavulin, Oban, Glendullan, Dufftown, Glen Ord, Glenkinchie, Craagganmore, Mortlach, Royal Lochnagar, Glen Elgin, Dalwhinnie, Glenkinchi, Inchgower and Cardhu. The large single grain distilleries in Diageo's portfolio include the massive Cameronbridge Distillery north of Edinburgh, the home of Haig Club Single Grain Scotch Whisky. Since this is a blended bottle and the best of the best, it is rumored that barrels that are as old as 60 years are used in Johnnie Walker Blue and barrels as young as 28 years. This bottle gives a whole new perspective on what blended scotch is and the quality alone that goes into it. All of the distilleries that Johnnie Walker pulls from are all incredibly different in palate alone --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/whiskey-exchange/support
Folge von We talk Malts zurück! Verkostet werden: Mortlach 7 Jahre - Signatory Vintage - Very Cloudy Mortlach 8 Jahre - Signatory Vintage - Small Batch Mortlach 15 Jahre - Wemyss Malts - Melon and Orange Melange Mortlach 16 Jahre - Originalabfüllung
Efter Davids överraskande paraplydrink recenserar inbitne bourbonfantasten Deeped Niclas Strandh Old Pulteney 12. Bot och bättring i 64:an utlovas! Deepeds första i vår skotska whiskykanon Orökig bourbonlagring vanns av Old Pulteney 12 YO.
A review of scotch? As promised, Eat! Drink! Smoke! (http://facebook.com/eatdrinksmoke) will be covering more than bourbon in 2021. But was this the scotch to kick off the year with? Tony Katz (http://eatdrinksmokeshow.com) and Fingers Malloy (http://eatdrinksmokeshow.com) host Eat! Drink! Smoke! It's a review of the Game of Thrones Six Kingdoms Mortlach 15-year Scotch (that's a mouthful of a name!) They paired it with an Espinosa Thai Tea cigar that comes via the Privada Cigar Club...and impressed them both! Fingers has the News of the Week, including how Girl Scouts will be offering up Thin Mints online, the very interesting beer trends for 2021 - non-alcoholic and CBD? beer? - and an update on the free beer available in Detroit.
Die großartigen Malt Mariners a.k.a.

Hey look, a bottle that isn't from Islay!! WHAT?! The Mortlach 18 was a purchase at the duty free in Edinburg and surprisingly enough, is no longer a core range offering. Mortlach is, much like Caol Ila, a distillery that makes more spirits for blenders (Johnny Walker) than having their own ranges. One of the most stunning bottles I own and has become a favorite of mine, which wasn't always the case. Beware the first taste trap! 2.81 distilled, look it up, I had too. It is worth the read. :)
Wir verkosten den Mortlach 12 Jahre.
Today is Decemeber 14, and behind door number 14, is the Mortlach 10 year old Scotch, Old Particular by Douglas Laing. This whisky forms a backbone of many of the Johnny Walker products, so its finally chance to taste this as single malt. “If you came here to learn, drink what you have learned. Global trade has helped the whisky industry expand massively over the last two decades. With the ongoing trade dispute between the US and its key trading partners threatening that growth, the world's nine major whisky trade associations held their first-ever "W9 Summit" this week in Louisville. WhiskyCast was in Louisville for the summit, and we'll have complete coverage on WhiskyCast In-Depth. In the news, we'll have details on the week's new whiskies from Glenfiddich, Johnnie Walker, Mortlach, Highland Park, and more - along with the week's tasting notes and in our "Behind the Label" segment, we'll look at how a whisky maker crafts a new range of single malts.
A Brand new series starts with a spooky Halloween special ('cos nobody has thought of that idea before...right?). We review a That Boutiquey Whisky Company 22 year old single malt bottling from the Mortlach distillery. Meanwhile we have a brand new feature: Tasting Notes - a collaboration with blogger and all round good guy Andy, better know as Amateur Drammer (https://amateurdrammer.com) and we interview the lady behind the fudge, Sarah aka @iheartwhisky on twitter who makes amazing Whisky fudge. Chad Dutton of The Dregs joins us for our tasting of the Mortlach 1980 and The Macallan 18yr.
There's one question Diageo's whisky team has been asked for years -- why can't we have more Mortlach single malt bottlings? The Dufftown distillery has been prized by blenders for decades because its malt whisky adds depth and texture to their blends, but we're about to see what Mortlach can be on its own. Diageo is investing millions of dollars to make Mortlach the next major single malt Scotch whisky, in what's being described as the company's biggest single malt venture since the launch of the Classic Malts range 25 years ago. We'll tour the distillery and discuss the expansion with managers Steve McGingle and Sean Phillips, and go through the four new Mortlach expressions to be launched in 2014 with Dr. Matthew Crow. In the news, The Macallan is getting a major investment of its own -- a $245 million distillery expansion scheduled to begin in late 2014. We'll also have more of your comments on age statements in Your Voice, along with tasting notes for a couple of the new Mortlachs and the latest Blue Hanger release from Berry Bros. & Rudd.
Gordon & MacPhail has released thousands of single cask bottlings over the years, including the two oldest whiskies ever bottled: 70-year-old casks of Mortlach and Glenlivet single malts. Now, the family-owned company is reviving its "Rare Old" series of single malts with a series of new releases. Many of those new releases are from distilleries that closed 30 years ago this year during one of the industry's biggest cutbacks in distilling capacity. We'll discuss those distilleries and whether a new "whisky loch" is filling up with Gordon & MacPhail's Michael Urquhart in this week's WhiskyCast In-Depth. In the news, another Indian distillery expands its single malt lineup, Miltonduff Distillery gets a turn in the spotlight, and more new distilleries are coming to Northern Ireland. This week's tasting notes include Ardbeg's new Ardbog, The Glenlivet's new Alpha single malt, and Forty Creek's upcoming Heart of Gold Canadian whisky.
Compass Box marks 10 years in the whisky business this week, and John Glaser is celebrating with retrospective tastings in New York and Edinburgh. We'll have highlights of the New York tasting on this week's episode. In the news, a rare bottle of Mortlach 70 is stolen at the Stockholm Beer & Whisky Festival, and two bottles of 64-year-old Dalmore have sold for about $160,000...each! We'll also remember Ronnie Eddins, the longtime Buffalo Trace warehouse manager who passed away this past week.
I had a great experience today, and decided it warranted a special mid-week episode recorded on board a First ScotRail train from Aberdeen to Glasgow. Michael Urquhart gave me a private tour of the Gordon & MacPhail warehouses and sample room in Elgin, along with a tasting of several G&M bottlings, including the new 70-year-old Mortlach! Along the way, we talked about the family's history in the whisky business, nosing and tasting, and much more!
Michael Jackson passed away in 2007, leaving behind a legacy of excellence in whisky writing that includes his classic "Michael Jackson's Complete Guide to Single Malt Scotch." Now, an updated edition of his guide is being released, and fittingly, it took three men to do the job. Editors Dominic Roskrow, Gavin Smith, and William Meyers discuss the controversy over their work and how they worked together to create the new guide. In the news, Gordon & MacPhail unveils a 70-year-old Mortlach bottling, and the latest on new expressions from Four Roses, Glenfarclas, and The Whisky Exchange.
