At least ten branches of major banks have closed in NL over the past few years. But Candace Matthews says when one bank account closes, perhaps a credit union account needs to open. Matthews is manager of member experience and communications with The Atlantic Edge Credit Union. Residents of Labrador City are watching the situation closely this morning, as wildfires continue to threaten the town. Residents were told to leave as soon as possible, and to check in at the EJ Bloomfield Arena in Happy Valley-Goose Bay. The Labrador City mayor, Belinda Adams, joined us on the line this morning.

As of Friday evening, Labrador City has been evacuated due to wildfire. Residents were told to leave as soon as possible, and to check in at the EJ Bloomfield Arena in Happy Valley-Goose Bay. This comes almost a month after Churchill Falls was evacuated for the same reason. One of those evacuees is the CBC's Darryl Dinn, who joined us on the line today to discuss the situation.
As wildfires still burn just outside of Churchill Falls, residents of Happy Valley-Goose Bay are doing what they can to help evacuees who have travelled there. Also: Hundreds of people have died during the annual Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia, due to scorching heat. Plus: Manufacturers and distributers of Indian whiskey brands are having a hard time getting their booze into Ontario liquor stores - so many of them are turning to another province.

They had a rough night, sleeping in strange beds in an unfamiliar place, uncertain of what will happen next with Labrador's wildfires. But despite it all, the Chisletts are looking for positives in a tough situation. Fear and worry gripped residents and town officials on Friday night after a blaze ripped through former airport buildings - and forced the evacuation of homes on several streets in the area. Mayor George Andrew joined us this morning to discuss the incident.
