Hello beautiful people In 2007, at just 41, Heather was diagnosed with Stage 1 Ovarian Cancer. Providing what she terms a ‘second chance at life', this awakened her adventurous spirit that had been lying dormant in her former years. Now, she shares, is not the time to be wasted. At the age of 47 she participated in her first running event, a 4km park run, which unbeknownst to her was the beginning of a journey that would take her to now having completed over forty marathons and eight ultra-marathons. A mum of 2, she trekked 1,700km over 152 days along the Great Himalaya Trail in Nepal with her two adult children, and is currently part of a group of 10 who are running a virtual race around the world that spreads 50,000km of foot steps between them. An Ambassador for organisations such as Ovarian Cancer Australia, CanToo and the Indigenous Marathon Foundation, Heather places purpose and importance on raising awareness in conjunction with her adventures. In this conversation with Heather she shares insight into how the lowest times in our lives can be real turning points in who we choose to become, and that in those moments we need to choose to be brave. She challenges us to embody resilience, determination and perseverance in those endeavors of achievement that we seek, but not without passion, presence and a positive mindset along the journey. All our failures have ever been, she shares, are learning experiences and through that she encourages us that no matter what is sent our way in life, allow ourselves to receive it in the form of gratitude. Please subscribe, review, share with friends and family, and become part of the To Be Human Collective.Connect with Jennah-LouiseMindset Coaching | https://www.jennahlouise.com.auInstagram Personal | https://www.instagram.com/jennah_louiseConnect with Heather Facebook | https://www.facebook.com/HeatherHawkinsAdventurousSpirit Book: Adventurous Spirit | https://amzn.to/3f7saa0

When a photo of a new “boy band” crossed PR Agent Heather Hawkins’ desk in 2001, she was surprised at how glamorously they were presented. The era of Backstreet Boys was over; kids were listening to “real music” (like highly produced punk), and what was more, the look of the band didn’t match the sound. As Heather and her coworkers listened to the music and got to know the band members, they quickly realized that something needed to change. “[W]e realized that in order for them to survive in the ecosystem we needed to absolutely double down on the music and who they really were as people. We understood that that was going to mean making some really tough decisions.” Heather and her crew took on the philosophy of “Radical Authenticity” and proudly began shipping the band to Jeep Jamboree campouts, Sam Adams beer festivals, and locations, where bands respected for their musical proficiency, would be expected to play. Their long game paid off: the band, Maroon 5, became a globally recognized tour de force, and are still producing hits today. Now the CEO and founder of Elevation Strategy, a visibility consultancy, Heather loves working with companies to crystallize their brand DNA and find their “guiding North Star.” Listen in to our conversation and learn more in the show notes at https://whitneyjohnson.com/heather-hawkins

Billionaire lifestyle with Emmitt Muckles - Conversations with conscious entrepreneurs, solopreneurs and life changers

Heather Hawkins  My story: I'm a Los Angeles-born, San Francisco-finished and New York City-hardened PR professional who's worked with Sony, Sega, divisions of Apple, CLIF Bar- even David Bowie and Maroon 5! I've helped clients build their brands through exposure in the New York Times, Associated Press, Men's Health, MTV, CNN, even on the cover of the TV Guide. (Appearing in many of these outlets myself.) Two years ago, I left the big city life behind, packed up my family and my dog and we moved to Truckee, CA, a small mountain town 20 minutes from the shore of Lake Tahoe. I started a visibility agency, Elevation Strategy, but, within about 18 months, I had an epiphany-- the agency model simply will never work for the solo business owners and aspiring personal brands that I really wanted to work with. What's more, they were being lied to by "The PR Agency-Industrial-Complex"-- a deception I'd been a part of! Now, I'm on a mission to empower entrepreneurs with the knowledge that, not only CAN they do their own PR, they can do it more effectively than an agency AND become a better business owner in the process. And, all they have to BE is who they already ARE, that's right, solo business owners have the ONE THING media wants more than anything-- radical authenticity and an unfiltered point of view.

Back in 2007, Heather Hawkins was, by her own admission, a desperately unfit and busy mum of 2. Then one day she visited her doctor after noticing some unusual symptoms she had initially attributed to the ‘middle age’ spread, enjoying Christmas a little too much and even menopause. A scan later the same day revealed the shocking news - Heather was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Fortunately, Heather has not only survived but thrived in the years since. And just 6 years ago took up running. She then she’s gone onto finish the North Pole Marathon, the World Marathon Challenge (7 marathons on 7 continents in 7 days), the Volcano Marathon in Chile as well as the Marathon des Sables, a 250km, 7 day stage race across the Sahara Desert in Morocco. Plus she’s hiked the 1,700km Great Himalaya Trail across the Nepalese Himalayas with her children. As part of my commitment to focus on women’s health, we dive into her diagnosis, treatment and recovery from ovarian cancer before discussing how running has helped her unlock her ‘adventurous spirit’ again. At 41 - with two teenagers and a contentedly unadventurous life - Heather Hawkins made a doctor's appointment. Diagnosed with stage one ovarian cancer, within nine days she had surgery to remove an 18cm tumour, and a full hysterectomy. Instead of chemotherapy, she chose a non-invasive surveillance treatment.  The experience reignited Heather's adventurous and invincible spirit. At 47 she pulled on an old pair of shorts and runners and struggled to the end of a 4km mothers' day fun run with her kids. Five years later she has 17 marathons and 3 ultra marathons under her belt, including the North Pole Marathon and the extraordinary World Marathon Challenge - a gruelling seven marathons in seven days on seven continents. She topped that off by trekking 1700km in the thin air of Nepal's Great Himalaya Trail.  And she's only just getting started ... 'Heather's courage is immeasurable. Heather helps companies in the wellness and outdoor industries elevate their brand message to increase the positive impact they have on their consumers and communities. She believes a thoughtful communication program is about more than just volume, it's about identifying who matters most to your company in order to reach them in an authentic way. With an ever-expanding arsenal of earned, owned and paid communication tools, it's more important than ever to match the right consumer to the right channel and the right message for the past two-plus decades, she's been doing just that for consumer brands including CLIF Bar, Camelbak, Sega of America, Bell Helmets, Sony Computer Entertainment, Maroon 5 and more. She’d love to hear how she can help you, too. Away from her laptop, she's an endurance junkie who lives and breathes the wellness and outdoor lifestyle-- trail ultras, road marathons, triathlons, Mudders and more. If it sounds like a miserable way to spend a Sunday morning to most sane people, it's probably right up her alley.
