To Be Human with Jennah-Louise is a space of intimate conversation that sets the intention of humanising high performers by revealing the person behind the persona. Delving into the minds of those who are best known for their achievement, this podcast is
Abdalla is an entrepreneur and investor here in Dubai. This is a conversation on the war on men's minds. As Abdalla shares, “If you can capture people's mind, you can enslave them.” Abdalla passionately explores the reflection of the relationship between the modern man and that of being a slave, how to deprogram from society's conditioning, take your power back and attain freedom. He shares that when it comes to the masculine this is through a willingness to withstand pain, be accountable to oneself and live a life that is true to you rather than living to others expectations. Ultimately, are you the lion, or are you the sheep? WATCH IN-STUDIO RECORDING ON YOUTUBE: https://youtu.be/Q5dmBu7-AVA On today's episode we have Parm Bains. Parm is a visionary thinker, compassionate guide and profound reflector. The founder of Empowered Living Mastery, Parm brings decades of lived experience, diving deep into the core of life's challenges and fostering lasting change. What I personally love about this conversation is the depth of reflection, the authenticity of expression and the symbiotic nature between us two. I am going to put it out there that I do think this may just be the best conversation I have had out of the 106 episodes recorded thus far. We were in flow and it certainly felt like there was a larger presence channelling through us both. In our relationship of self-exploration we really went layers deeper than normal. I've experienced Parm as an incredibly integrated person when it comes to his spirituality, and it was powerful to be able to challenge him to truly reflect on what you can see he genuinely believes and embodies. We discuss the concept of self-inspired bankruptcy, of non-attachment, and how particularly this affects the dynamic of connection with loved ones. We explore the notion of what is good and bad, and a new outlook of not objectifying your own perspective onto another's experience of how things should be. We ponder truth, surrender, trust and intuition, and as you can expect a whole lot more. I highly, highly recommend that you pop on over to YouTube, find me at Jennah-Louise, and watch this one; we are in studio and the depth certainly carries in visual presentation through our energy, connection and Parm's inevitable wisdom shared. Sharon is the Founder of Let's Talk DXB that is redefining conversations and creating a platform for more authentic and diverse content that resonates with the Dubai community and beyond. She was recently honoured with the prestigious 2024 Women Who Thrive Inclusion and Diversity Award. What I personally love about this conversation is Sharon's depth of vulnerability; raw vulnerability. There is no pretence with Sharon. What you see and particularly what you hear from her, is exactly who she is and where she is in life. Moving from a space many of us can relate to, the prison and pain of aspired perfection, Sharon has learned through radical trial and tribulation in her life that the value and importance of ourselves lies not just in our sameness, but in our uniqueness; and particularly, in the beauty of embracing our ugliness and the messiness. This is by far one of my favourite To Be Human conversations. We explore how we can take on these survival adaptations and compensations of silencing oneself; of taking care of everyone's needs but our own. We discuss the evolution of Sharon finding her voice through her divorce that was not only a deeply challenging personal experience, but a cultural and religious awakening. We discuss shame, the power of vulnerability and authenticity, a passion for advocating for diversity and how to live a life with no pretence; of full integrated and embodied confidence to become not only the best you, but the true you.Connect with Jennah-LouiseInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/jennah_louiseVoice Note Mentorship with JL: https://www.voicenotementorship.comWebsite: https://www.jennahlouise.comConnect with Sharon MissahInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/lets.talkdxb
Miriam is one of those women that continues to deeply inspire me and impact my life. We initially connected on podcast #34 of To Be Human which I highly, highly recommend where we explored her adventures of giving up her belongings with her partner Peter and moving to the mountains of New Zealand with a bow and arrow for 6 years and then subsequently walking 2,000km through the forests of Europe, along the coast of Turkey and ending up in the Australian desert. These incredible stories are shared in Miriam's international bestselling books, ‘Woman In The Wilderness' and ‘Wild At Heart'.What I personally love about this conversation that we have today is Miriam's continual evolution when it comes to understanding freedom, her consistent curiosity around who she really is and her commitment to living a life that is fundamentally true to her. We explore her current belief that to have a whole life that is planned is the worst prison of all. We explore the price we pay to live safe and comfortable lives and we explore how we are conditioned to continually solve problems, and what might just happen if we sat still for a moment and experienced the art of doing nothing. We have the passionate John Gray back for a second time. John Gray is the author of one of the most influential and best selling books on relationships, ‘Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus' and has published his most recent updated book, ‘Beyond Mars and Venus: Relationship Skills for our Complex Modern World'. John can be a somewhat polarising figure in his teachings around the differences of men and women. We certainly live in an interesting time when highlighting the relationship between masculine and feminine essences can be controversial. John's been through the process and experience of being cancelled, and so this time round, I took the opportunity to ask him deeper questions around having an undeniable commitment to one's own sense of truth, what morality is to him personally, and how do we show up with courage at a time when there is so much condemnation around owning one's individuality and perspective. We also spend some time discussing how women can maintain femininity in a time where there is so much demand for providing and protecting for oneself, and as always, I let John get in his flow towards the end to speak all his wisdom around optimising self and relationships.Connect with Jennah-LouiseInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/jennah_louiseWebsite: https://www.jennahlouise.comConnect with John GrayWebsite: https://www.marsvenus.com
Lana Estella is a Female Mindset Coach and Mentor who specialises in NLP and Hypnotherapy. Lana and I met when I was in a contract role where I was heading a community of coaches. Upon moving to Dubai I have had the privilege of getting to know Lana on a deeper level and I realised there is a lot to Lana's life story that has been left unsaid and unshared. In this conversation I made it my intention to have Lana share her life experiences behind what most see online; though the content of her social presence of the soft life and luxury certainly has its place of inspiration, it was the path that has led her here that I find just as important. Lana opens up about being homeless, experiencing suicidal thoughts, the loss of her father and the strength, resilience and not give a fuck about other people's judgements attitude that has helped her to not only get through these moments, but grow into the woman, the coach and the mentor she is today. We discuss the topic of freedom, the importance of getting clear on your core value, and The Four Horseman of Fear that are holding you back from living the life you truly desire.Corey poses the questions: What do you give a shit about and why do you give a shit about it? Experiencing a somewhat numbing of the body and silence of the mind, Jessie has found her power through writing and speaking on the topics that culturally we tend to steer clear of. In this conversation we explore desire, the relationship between love and attachment, and the process of coming to feel safe in your own body. Bill holds a PHD in Philosophy and is a Philosophy Professor who not only teaches, thinks and writes about philosophy, but has adopted a philosophy of living known as Stoicism. He is the author of the book, ‘A Guide To The Good Life'.What I love about this conversation is Bill's ease in speaking about philosophy and particularly Stoicism as a way of life. At times academics can show up in a somewhat pretension and Bill certainly doesn't do this, and I think it's because he genuinely practises what he preaches. He's extremely passionate about making Stoicism available for everyone to at least try, at least apply, and see if you too can reap the benefits that he has. Stoicism is all about living a life of equanimity, meaning to be calm and maintain your emotions during difficult situations. Bill shares practical tools, some of which I personally apply in my own life, that can help you to take control of yourself, your reactions, and essentially live what the Stoics believe to be a good life. Please enjoy this conversation with Bill. #jennahlouise #tobehumanpodcast

What I love about this conversation is the difference between Zach and I, and how much I learned from him. As many of you know, I absolutely love endurance running. I love it for the experience, the adventure, the uncertainty and the unknown. And yes, Zach certainly runs for the experience, but to be a world record holder in running 100 miles on the track, it is necessary to remove as much as you can in relation to this uncertainty and the unknown. There is a lot of great advice right down to specificity in the conversation that will help with increasing your performance, and there is a lot we can learn from Zach in terms of commitment. As a leader of connection she shows up in a way that has you feel safe, heard and seen. This is certainly a vulnerable conversation as we delve into the darkness of connection, how disconnection can fuel distraction, numbing and addiction, and we explore the theme in the realm of Gabor Mate's work, stop asking why the addiction and start asking why the pain. Connection is a biological imperative, and this isn't just in relation to us and our surroundings, our relationships with others, but also our relationship with ourselves, and so in knowing that we discuss how to stop fearing ourselves and start being with ourselves. This is not about blame or judgement; this is about taking ownership of our experience with ourselves and other people through self-awareness. Jessica shares helpfully the four Attachment Styles that reflect the way in which we behave in relationship, and both in-moment and long-term strategies to guide us to a space of safety, security and connection. Nine years ago Emma was skydiving over the Swiss Alps when her instructor's parachute failed to open properly. Falling 15,000ft, that's around 4.5km, to the ground. Emma incredibly survived, but was paralysed from the waist down and told she would never walk again. In her new book, ‘The Girl Who Fell From The Sky' she shares her story of courage, resilience, hope and her journey of coming to walk again. What I love about this conversation is Emma's beautiful spirit showing the evolution of her inner strength. Emma shares she wasn't always the positively oriented person, living, as we do, in the ebb and flow of life, it wasn't until her accident that she came to truly understand her relationship with her body and the appreciation of it. We explore the idea that as much as society focuses on the way that we should look, we are indeed not our body, and that our essence appears to be closer to the truth. She interestingly shares how being in a wheelchair influenced her to deeply want to walk again, and as she powerfully began to walk, thoughts arise that now she wants to run; it gives this beautiful insight into the human condition as how we generally are always focused on more, which to an extent can be great in terms of working towards expanding one's potential, but we certainly also have to be accountable to when we continue to move the goalposts and do not appreciate what we have right now. I want you to go on your own journey in this one, so I won't share too much of what is inside. We discuss the beautiful relationships between endurance and growth, the beauty and joy that can be found in suffering, and the mindset of those who finish this phenomenal feat. There is also a special contribution to my dear Australian friend Stephen Redfern at the end; he has just arrived in New York to experience his own path of self-transcendence. Sally has a profound belief that though we may be different from culture to culture, we are indeed one, and it is more about integration than assimilation between cultures. The most important lesson Sally learnt was to respect another's culture and through her work with the Alternative Violence Project she also spans this out to people's individual journeys and experiences; that we should take time to know where one comes from to better understand where one is going. #jennahlouise #tobehumanpodcast

Elizabeth, born in Ireland to Nigerian parents, experienced homelessness at the age of 14 alongside the experience of not growing up with a father due to him not being granted access to calling Ireland home. From this experience Elizabeth believes that families being together should be a fundamental human right. This conversation unfortunately begins a little muffled but soon enough gives into flow. The conversation certainly becomes emotive and raw in the second half, where Elizabeth shares powerful statements to inspire contribution in us all. Elizabeth's purpose is to help people experience undesirable situations in a better way, and it is without a doubt that gratitude and faith run through her veins as she shares: “Sometimes I don't think I deserve the adversity I have experienced because of how big the blessings have been.” A little insight for us all to draw inspiration from. Hello Beautiful People! On today's podcast we have Adrian Holmes. Adrian is a family therapist, clinical supervisor and trainer. Adrian has worked in the human services field for 15 years and is currently completing PhD research related to mental health and social policy. Adrian co-founded and manages the training and supervision organisation Tools For Hard Conversations and released his first book entitled ‘Tools For Hard Conversations in the Helping Professions'. What I personally love about this conversation is Adrian's focus on the problem being the problem, not the person. In this day and age it is quite common for experts and professionals to meet people seeking support through the eyes of them being somewhat broken and needing to be fixed, rather with Adrian's take on this is that in labelling someone with say anxiety or depression, particularly children, can have real long-term damaging effects. Adrian prefers to see the person as whole, to explore our experience rather than labelling them and to lead with a foundation that we are our own experts when it comes to self-healing and self-development. We also discuss the importance of having hard conversations and the beginning processes of what that may look like. Hello Beautiful People! On today's podcast we have the gorgeous Dr Joanna LaPrade. Joanna is a Jungian psychologist who has a Ph.D in Jungian and archetypal psychology, and is currently a practising psychotherapist. She is the author of the book, ‘Forged in Darkness: The Many Paths of Personal Transformation'. What I personally love about this conversation is Joanna's depth; and it is no surprise as she specialises in depth psychology which she explains in this episode. I always love the expansiveness of conversations like this, where the themes and traits that we usually suppress actually become the main points of focus. Why I love this so much is because not only does it avail the opportunity for you to see yourself and accept yourself in all of who you are, the light and the so-called ‘darkness' but it also touches on the fundamentals of getting to the core problem and not simply treating the symptom. Time and time again, especially in becoming a Mindset Coach, I see so often people keeping in the safety of the surface, rather than exploring the long-term healing components of depth. Certainly a topic we touch on in this episode as we explore the power of self-awareness over strategy, and how the commercialisation of self-help has become a burden to the underworld of our psychology that is at the forefront of our current behaviour and what we just may like to change. Jean had a 30+ year career as a park ranger for the US National Park Service. She is the Amazon bestselling author of her book, ‘If I Live Until Morning' which is about a wilderness adventure that took her skiing more than 200 miles along California's John Muir Trail where she came to face death from a mountaineering accident on Mount Whitney. What I personally love about this conversation is Jean's openness and candidness in laying it all out for us to learn the lessons she has embodied from this defining moment in her life at the young age of 22. We talk about the power of the mind, and how setting her intention to live out her dreams when she was on the cusp of death, is what kept her alive. Jean went onto live these dreams and shares how she probably wouldn't have if it weren't for her to not understand the shortness of life. We discuss the power of self-forgiveness, how it is important to find your voice in your journey of healing, and how stepping outside of yourself with compassion and loving kindness will always help you maintain perspective and lead to fulfilment. What I personally love about this conversation is Jordan's interesting outlook and perspective. They share vulnerably their experience of growing up as an African-American-Greek-Australian, and their frustration of being asked ‘where are they from' as a cover for ‘why don't you look like me'. Nick is an endurance athlete, motivational speaker and ultramarathon runner; best known for being the first person to run a marathon in every country being 196 marathons in 674 days covered in his book, ‘Running The World'. Most recently Nick became the fastest person to run around the coast of Britain after completing 200 marathons in an incredible 128 days! All up Nick holds 8 world records with 2 world firsts. What I personally love about this conversation is Nick's beautiful humility. Nick has been on a lot of podcasts in his time, so I thought to take this opportunity to get to know him personally on a deeper level. The trajectory of Nick's life changed when he was told by a now good friend, Kevin Webber, who appeared on episode 5 of the To Be Human podcast and has terminal prostate cancer, to not ‘wait for a diagnosis'. This spurred a new path for Nick that took him into a new depth of experience of endurance and contribution. We speak intimately about the effects these experiences have had on Nick, through witnessing confronting poverty, to understanding the power of human connection, to recently exploring the idea of how to balance relationships with the commitment for high achievement. Emma is an academic based at the University of New South Wales in Sydney whose research interests are quite eclectic ranging from sex and gender, to technology facilitated violence. Her research has been presented to the Australian Human Rights Commission and Workplace Gender Equality Agency. Emma is also an author having written her most recent book, being her eleventh book, ‘Diagnosis Normal'; which shares about the combined impact of sexual abuse, mental illness and neurodivergence. What I personally love about this conversation is Emma's passion to, in her words, break the toxic silence surrounding sexual violence and mental illness; that we need to hear more unpretty stories. Emma is an academic, which traditionally can come with a set of standards, I would say in separating the academic from the person behind the academia. However it is in Emma's recent book and in this episode, that Emma courageously steps outside tradition and into the necessity of bringing together her research with her own story. Living in shame that is fuelled by silence can be terribly lonely, and it is Emma's drive to not only encourage others to share their story, but more importantly to have people to listen, to really listen, that certainly makes this episode an important element in moving forward. Please enjoy this lovely conversation with Emma.
